MS Win 7 64 bit New Dell Optiplex 790 System Just installed two weeks ago - very few apps installed and only a few trusted websites have been visited.
Originally set up and installed MS Office, Adobe Reader, and a few other common programs. Installed VMware vSphere Client. Upon using VMWare vSphere Client for the first time, I first noticed the white/blank square in the upper right corner of my desktop. It has been there ever since, even when I have not used any applications after startup.
I'm attaching a snippet of the affected area of the desktop.
Whenever I put my laptop (with Windows 7) in sleep mode and wake it up, a very small white square appears in the upper left of the desktop. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? It doesn't seem to affect functionality, but it's a tad annoying.
All my desktop shortcut icons look like white squares of shredded paper although the links work. I've tried rebuilding the IconCache database to no avail. My OS is windows 7.
I have the lower right side of my desk top covered with a blank white page. It is about half way down to the right of bottom of the desktop. How can I remove it?
For the past two weeks I have had a strange white box overlay my desktop. I see nothing in task manager that is associated with it. I killed every process that I could and it is still there. Reboot doesn't help. I have Norton and Windows Defender, neither show any spyware or virus. I have run msconfig and disabled everything in startup with no luck. It appears about 2 minutes after logging in. I've watched the task manager as it appears and there are no new tasks that show up when it appears. If I alt-tab it goes away, other than that it is always there and always on top of any program I open. I've tried every display setting I can think to try.
I tried to install the Vista Shortcut manager and the install did not finish. Now all of the desktop icons have a white rectangle on top of the icon. I cannot rid the white rectangle. I have tried deleting the iconcache file to rebuild the icons but not successful.
I am stuck at a black screen with a white arrow you can move with your mouse. right click does nothing. heres what i tried so far just linking to another forum so its easier to see where i am at. really want to avoid having to reinstall windows.
My computer was attacked by Antivirus 2010. Thank goodness that my son is an IT guy. He removed the program; however, my desktop is now black with white text. There are no icons. When I hit a folder or document, the background is grey. What can I do to restore my desktop to color?
Now, after loggin or turn on my pc after 2mns my desktop and my taskbar cover with a plain white screen. I realize when i right click on it gives me all the option of webpage not my desktop but i can't see anything at all. To have access to my pc I have to press windows button from my keyboard where i can have the start icon and the folder explorer of windows7. Any help please?
The icons on my desktop have a lock in the lower corner. Indicating that they are not to be shared. This lock randomly switches to a green check mark or to a grey X or sometimes to the file shared icon. Different ones switch to different icons when it happens. So not just the folders or just the shortcuts. But all desktop icons. The main icon picture stays the same, it's the lower corner spot that changes around randomly. The little arrow that indicates that the icon is a shortcut. This even happens on my game icons. Is this a sign of a malfunction or maybe mal-ware? I do not have Mozy or Norton installed. Running Win 7. When I turned on my PC today a AMD update was prompted. Assuming it was for a driver update, I clicked ok. Even though I uninstalled and reinstalled my driver yesterday, to try and fix a flickering problem. The update looked legitimate. Today I also uploaded and downloaded a small video file from "Bloggif.com". While I was trying to create an animated .gif. The animated .gif worked. This seems like one of those things that happens when I don't know that my pinky finger is resting on the ctrl key. But can't figure out how to keyword troubleshoot through Google.
I'm not sure if this is a virus, but it happened after I restored my computer. All my folders in my Local Disk became "Read-Only", and from what I know its suppose to have a check mark instead of a square box.
A friend of mine has a laptop with windows 7 and he told that sometimes when he boots his pc the windows network indicator is square with a X(no connetions-not connected, which i think means that there is no wifi adapter , and not that there are no available networks-this is with signal icon and a x) so he cant connect to any wifi networks even though there are available the problem remains until he shuts down and may fix at next boot
I can't say pixelation, appearing as blocks in certain parts of the screen, or even a graphics card error.I am using a Thinkpad T400 running on win 7 (I have attached a link with s/w and h/w specs).I seem to be having this glitch that is just not going away - windows updates, driver updates, clean ups. uninstalls,Certain parts of the screen suddenly appears as pixelated or in blocks.
when i playing games , suddenly the screen appear random color square and the nvidia it's not responding , i try to play the game again after the nvidia it's recovered from the not responding and the games it's play normal again, the question i want ask, it's that mean my VGA already broken / damaged?
it shows some weird streching lines from the icons.theres morenes in the right of my windows 7 dekstop and in my start menu, how can i fix it.i could see good with the lines but the lines are annoying
Basically this white screen (sometimes with blue lines running down sometimes without) has been appearing on startup. At first it just appeared in place of the windows logo before log in, but now it's appearing earlier on and the only way to bypass it is to hit the power button and hope it loads up properly. I've tried disabling/uninstalling the display driver and this has either (a) caused the laptop to crash to the white screen or (b) nothing, just back to white screen appearing at intervals.

I am using a shuttle xpc St20g5 with windows 7 pro, when I'm on either Chrome,IE or Firefox suddenly it crashes with usually a white screen and there's nothing i can do so i have to reset.
My apologies if this is an old topic. I browsed a few likely-looking threads but did not immediately see what I was looking for.I have a Dell Inspiron PC which came with the Windows 7 operating system. If more details about my computer are necessary, a bit of direction I'm good at following directions but I'm by no means a computer wizard. When I start the computer it starts normally, no weird messages during startup. The logon screen shows up as normal, and I key in my password and tap enter. I see the word "Welcome" as usual, but it seems to be "thinking" much longer than normal before logging me on all the way. Instead of my normal background I see a completely white screen without any icons or taskbar. I can see my cursor though. After a moment or two, my regular background appears and all seems to be normal. I ran my virus scan (Webroot), and that came up with no results. Not sure what to do next.
friends laptop that freezes after boot, win and safe mode, looks like a new malware.Screen goes white, CRL/ALT/DEL still brings up "security screen" but choosing "start task manager" sends you back to white screen. Screen has no icons or task areas but box is not realy frozen: mouse is visible and moves normaly. A custom sound is played on first press of CTL or ALT keys but displays nothing. After about 2 minutes the screen displays the desktop background for 2 seconds and return to blank white. The behavior started after the owner visited his home town paper website in BC canada. No way to gain control and make changes that will last after reboot.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Following a recent restart, windows would load to a white desktop (or black in safemode) and a missing taskbar. The desktop, apart from being completely white, can't be interacted with (no drag and pull boxes). The taskbar is gone and the windows key won't bring up the start menu.I can still access the task manager and have used that to navigate through my documents and to access my web browser (hence my being here now). Because I can still access and run everything through the task manager and command window, I haven't lost any utility, but I'd like my taskbar and desktop back.
