Desktop And Taskbar Cover With A White Blank Screen
Mar 1, 2010Now, after loggin or turn on my pc after 2mns my desktop and my taskbar cover with a plain white screen. I realize when i right click on it gives me all the option of webpage not my desktop but i can't see anything at all. To have access to my pc I have to press windows button from my keyboard where i can have the start icon and the folder explorer of windows7. Any help please?

May 9, 2011This fuzzy white bar appears underneath of the icons in my taskbar at random times. It happens often when I open gmail, often when I hover over links (no particular links; randomly as far as I can tell) & sometimes it's just there. Sometimes it is behind only certain icons, sometimes it extends from the start button 3/4 of the way across the screen, & sometimes it is expanding / contracting. It started a couple weeks ago. Doesn't seem to mess with anything, but doesn't seem right either.

Error occurred this way:Media player vlc ran flawlessly for quite a while, I think it was v.1.11.11.Then suddenly vlc captured all icons that is all icons became vlc icons, and allicons being pressed would open vlc.At that time I was able to uninstall vlc, and all icons were back to normal.Then I used vlc portable for some time, and icons were OK.For some reason I tried to install a vlc nightly build, and again all icons became vlc icons.And this time I couldn't find a way to uninstall the vlc properly. So I found vlc rogram folders here and there and deleted them. That removed vlc, but all icons
now turned white, and didn't work.

Jan 3, 2013So about a month ago I restarted my computer and when it came back on all my programs pinned to my task bar and everything that was in my start menu was gone. From there I could not unlock the taskbar and nothing would pin in either the start menu or taskbar. I researched everywhere about it. I tried unlocking the taskbar in properties and registry with no luck. I finally found some posts about how my user profile was corrupt and from there I went on and made a new profile and copied everything and BOOM it all worked fine now. Well today it happened AGAIN! I restarted my computer and everything disappeared. So I think it is still a corrupt profile, but this is the second time it has happened.

Jan 16, 2013I have a client that has laptop with windows 7 Pro. He had a faulty network card, so I have added a new, usb network card. That said, He can not pin anything to taskbar or start menu. I cleared both folders of shortcuts(567 of them) but to no avail. He also has no options under his desktop Context menu for New. He is also using a roaming profile, of which I will disable next time I am there. I have a feeling that might be the issue. I did scour the internet trying all the usual suggestions, but do vaguely remember something about an entry in cache somewhere that if it is too big or corrupt, it could cause this behavior. I am unable to find that post anywhere now.I mention the network card because one post had taskbar issues until he disabled his faulty network card. I have disabled the faulty network card.

Jan 8, 2012I had a program installed called Spiral Knights, and I pinned the icon onto the taskbar so I could quickly launch it. When I was done playing it for good, I uninstalled it and it looked like the icon was off the taskbar, but it wasn't. When I tried to put another program onto the taskbar, called minecraft_server.jar, it pinned to the Spiral Knights icon, even though SK isn't installed anymore. Wherever I try to put the minecraft_server.jar onto the taskbar, the SK program is still there, and it says if I want to pin the minecraft_server.jar onto SK.

Jan 10, 2013Basically this white screen (sometimes with blue lines running down sometimes without) has been appearing on startup. At first it just appeared in place of the windows logo before log in, but now it's appearing earlier on and the only way to bypass it is to hit the power button and hope it loads up properly. I've tried disabling/uninstalling the display driver and this has either (a) caused the laptop to crash to the white screen or (b) nothing, just back to white screen appearing at intervals.

Little White Square On Desktop?
Jan 8, 2010i ave this little white square on the dead enter of my desktop and cant get rid of it. i know its not the pixles becuase its only onmy desktop. the windows gadgets will cover it up, it not there when i pen anything else.

I browsed a few likely-looking threads but did not immediately see what I was looking for.I have a Dell Inspiron PC which came with the Windows 7 operating system. If more details about my computer are necessary, a bit of direction I'm good at following directions but I'm by no means a computer wizard.When I start the computer it starts normally, no weird messages during startup. The logon screen shows up as normal, and I key in my password and tap enter. I see the word "Welcome" as usual, but it seems to be "thinking" much longer than normal before logging me on all the way. Instead of my normal background I see a completely white screen without any icons or taskbar. I can see my cursor though. After a moment or two, my regular background appears and all seems to be normal. I ran my virus scan (Webroot), and that came up with no results. Not sure what to do next.

Feb 24, 2013friends laptop that freezes after boot, win and safe mode, looks like a new malware.Screen goes white, CRL/ALT/DEL still brings up "security screen" but choosing "start task manager" sends you back to white screen. Screen has no icons or task areas but box is not realy frozen: mouse is visible and moves normaly. A custom sound is played on first press of CTL or ALT keys but displays nothing. After about 2 minutes the screen displays the desktop background for 2 seconds and return to blank white. The behavior started after the owner visited his home town paper website in BC canada. No way to gain control and make changes that will last after reboot.

Apr 10, 2011I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Following a recent restart, windows would load to a white desktop (or black in safemode) and a missing taskbar. The desktop, apart from being completely white, can't be interacted with (no drag and pull boxes). The taskbar is gone and the windows key won't bring up the start menu.I can still access the task manager and have used that to navigate through my documents and to access my web browser (hence my being here now). Because I can still access and run everything through the task manager and command window, I haven't lost any utility, but I'd like my taskbar and desktop back.

Oct 3, 2012Recently I've been experiencing a white screen after I log in. It appears for about 2 minutes and then everything loads as normal, but everything does seem a little slow.
I got the white screen a few times, tried to boot in safe mode but it got stuck at 'classpnp.sys'. My laptop is working as normal right now, I left the white screen and it finally showed my desktop, but should I be worried about these white screens?
I'm using an asus a52f with 3gb ram. Sorry if this isn't enough info, I'll try to give any more details if you need them.

Aug 13, 2012Yesterday, the task bar and Start button mysteriously disappeared.I've also found that the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" windowdoesn't come up. There are two places to click on in Control Panelthat should bring up this window, but it doesn't. The Control Panelborder changes color as if something is starting to happen, but thennothing happens, possibly indicating that some program starts to runbut then finds something wrong and exits. I didn't see anythinginteresting in the error logs. The desktop icons appear normally.The problem exists only when logging onto my son's account. When Ilog on as administrator, the task bar and Start button appearnormally.The usual tricks don't work: Ctrl+ESC, or bringing up Task Manager andtrying to rerun explorer.exe. I tried sfc to check for corruptedfiles, but none turned up. I ran an AVG scan and it did find one fileit considered a threat, which it removed, but that didn't solve theproblem.
I found a web site that referred to the registrykeyHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerwhich has a NoSetTaskbar value that can be used to disable the"Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window. On the administratorlogin, the Explorer subkey is there all right, but doesn't haveNoSetTaskbar. (It does have NoDriveTypeAutoRun.) But when I log ontomy son's account, the Policies key had no subkeys at all. I triedadding an Explorer subkey without adding any values, but this didn'tsolve the problem. I haven't yet tried adding a NoDriveTypeAutoRunvalue, but since this seems to pertain to AutoPlay it didn't seemrelevant to this problem.Any thoughts as to what might be going on or what might fix it?
White Box With Different Characters Overlaying Desktop?
Oct 24, 2011For the past two weeks I have had a strange white box overlay my desktop. I see nothing in task manager that is associated with it. I killed every process that I could and it is still there. Reboot doesn't help. I have Norton and Windows Defender, neither show any spyware or virus. I have run msconfig and disabled everything in startup with no luck. It appears about 2 minutes after logging in. I've watched the task manager as it appears and there are no new tasks that show up when it appears. If I alt-tab it goes away, other than that it is always there and always on top of any program I open. I've tried every display setting I can think to try.
