How To Kick-start Windows 7 Into Recognising Its Full Capacity
Aug 3, 2011
I have a 4gb memory stick that I have used many times to install Linux etc on old laptops etc. Now that I want to use that stick to copy off some files from Win 7, I notice that Win 7 suggests its capacity is only 1gb.I think I have seen this kind of thing happen before but cant remember how I resolved it.Anyone got ideas on how to kick-start Windows 7 into recognising its full capacity?
about 20 minutes ago or so I did a fresh install of Windows 7 to clear up and start fresh now for some reason it isn't showing my whole harddrive capacity. I have a 250gig harddrive and right now it's only showing 112g it's a Inspiron 518 from dell if that helps. I just wanna fix it and have my full harddrive.
i am using Toshiba Satellite L735 laptop. But my RAM isn't working properly. It shows 8GB but only 2.74GB is usable. I am attaching an image of that page. Can anybody tell me how to get it fixed?
The question now I've worked out that I have Hibernate & Hybrid Sleep enabled (which I think may have been the default) is, should I change it so I can hibernate from the start menu, or should I just put it in sleep mode and let that replace hibernation safe in the knowledge that during a power cut the session from the RAM will in fact be restored?Hybrid sleep sounds like a good idea, but hibernate did always feel a little safer....On another note sleep does take longer to kick in, and also for me (annoyingly) after I press 'sleep' on the start menu, it does eventually wind down (no more fan noise, monitor goes to standby) but only for a split second before 'waking up' immediately.
recently had a few parts die on me so i have started to rebuild a whole new comp my motherboard is a asrock 970 extreme3 cpu is a fx 8-core black edition and gpu is a gigabyte hd7850 2g gddr5 with a seagate 1tb barricuda 7200 hdd now thats out of the way my problem is im trying to reinstall win7 but neither my bios or win 7 rrecognising my hard drive i get stuck at where it asked me where i want to install it to i try load drive but as i said
Until a couple of weeks ago I was quite happily running my Nvidia 9400 GT GPU with no issues. Windows update wanted to update as it does every now an then and afterwards I get a black screen?? I switched to my on-board graphics everything is fine - I try the 9400 and nothing........ it gets weirder....... couple of days later I turn the computer on again and the 9400 is working again..... does so for a few days then black screen again I've been out today and bought a Nvidia GT 620 and plugged it into the motherboard but even that isn't showing up in device manager
I just recently replaced my screen on my laptop. The problem is that my laptop isn't recognizing the new screen. My laptop boots up like usual but my screen is black. Whats weird is I can leave my old screen plugged in.until my laptop boots up.then plug in my new screen. which stays on then. I can surf the net as usual. but when I reboot my laptop...its back to a black screen.
I've an Acer Revo running Windows 7 as my HTPC.Everytime I type certain keys on my wired Acer keyboard it displays numbers instead of letters or it displays the wrong letter. This happens for certain keys e.g. when I press 'u' I get '4' and so on. Why is this happening? I understand you press certain function keys together it can change the keyboard settings. Is this true and how do I turn it off?I know it's not the computer as I normally used a remote connection to access the PC and typing this way works fine. I only have this problem when I use the computer directly with its wired keyboard.
every time i start up my pc it always comes up with "Limited or no connectivity" and comes up with my network and an "unidentified network" in the network and sharing center. I only have it connected to one network and that's my BT Homehub 2.0 router.t is connected directly through Ethernet. But when i click restart and wait for it to boot up it goes back to normal, showing one network and full internet access. As it should. just a pain to have to do this every time. In the device manager under network adapters it says "Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller"
win 7 home premium on HP pavilion, i do a start ---> search programs and files and it gives me the resultant file but without its path. sometimes thats a fat lot of use! (i've lost the right-click function so cant do quick lookup for properties) what do i have to do to make the search results display the full path of the file? also, if the result shows more than one file and i click on one of them, the result window vanishes so i have to start the search again to find the next file. how do i make the search window stay put until i tell it to go away?
I have an enclosure with my hard drive in it and connected it to the computer it was not found and i think its because its disabled i go to computer manage disk managemtent and recovery disk,i click properties click on my hard drive (toshiba...) click enable, then i click next and it says windows was not able to enable the hard drive
i recently invested in a new PC - for my job i use high volumes of data so need a high end database setup for fast access to info - to do this i have invested in two SSD hard drives that i am hoping to run in a RAID array and these are completely dedicated to my database. So after alot of work i have my machine up and running, it has a 60GB SSD for running windows 7 64-bit home prem. on, 2x120GB SSDs that will run my database and a 1TB SATA HD for storing whatever else i have on. Now the part i am having real trouble with is configuring the RAID array, firstly in the BIOS main menu i dont see the 3 SSD drives:-However the drives all show up in the windows disk management window. Back in the BIOS, when i enter the SATA config. menu, i find that ports 1-4 are grouped together (currently set to AHCI), and it is possible to switch them into a RAID array but this is no good b/c it means my 60GB boot drive wont operate correctly - i cant seem to find a way for switching the individual ports to RAID, mainly since the ports arent listed individually?
another thing that i am unsure about is the way the drives are listed in the boot menu - they show up listed as IDE's although in the SATA config menu they are listed as AHCI controlled - i am unsure but think this may be a glitch with the BIOS for this motherboard where it doesnt update changes properly.
Bought i3 3220 (ivybridge), 2x4gb ram, 120GB SSD, CM Elite case & psuSo installed everything powered up got 4 beeps shutdownReset mobo as had been used before got 3 beepsI tried unplugging everything but cpu/fan/ramTried each ram stick in each slot etc checked cpu seated properlyTried everything i could think off got 3 beeps alwaysFinally i figured mobo might need bios update to run ivybridge chip (which was already supposed to have been done in old system) so i ditched the Z68 and ordered a gigabyte Z77-DS3H, so now all components are brand spankersAssembled everything 3 short beeps, pause, 3 short beeps shutdownSame as before unplugged everything same beep comboOnly mobo cpu/cooler/ram same beep comboWent to my office robbed some ddr3 out of my i7 system swapped it and still got 3/pause/3 beeps each stick in each slot and still the sameAnd i have noticed on power up cpu fan goes full speed for a few seconds then when beeps start it runs slowly dont know if this is relevantNow im stuckthe only components i havent swapped out is the cpu & psu, but is it possible the cpu is faulty, is this a common thing ???
I tried installing 64bit Win 7 Ultimate on mirrored 3TB Seagate HDD using a Digitus RAID card and failed. After the failed attempt, I disconnected the HDD and plugged the primary HDD to an on-board SATA connector only to find its capacity reduced to 750 GB. Windows Preinstallation Environment shows the same size and running clean produced no effect.
Something odd I noticed after running diskpart is that no matter how many drive is connected to onboard SATA, it only shows the 750 GB and the PC name is MINWINPC.
I`m completely stuck with this and cannot figure any solution. Please anyone help me restore the original 3TB size.
My hp mini 210-1010NR, during start up, says it's "Primary (internal) battery storage capacity is low. What does that mean? Do I just need another battery?
My hard drive fills up to within 5 GB of capacity without me taking any action. I run disk check and everything is fine until the next time I turn on the computer and the disk is full again. I ran a couple of malware tools and they found nothing. When I look through the directories I cannot find any huge files. I have the hidden and system files set as viewable. The HD is 300GB and has about 35 GB of real files.
I got BSOD randomly after I installed windows 7 ultimatium x64 and SP1. Its typically when I open bittorrent or use a lot of CPU/RAM capacity, but also randomly. I tried to remove one RAM-stick (thought it was broken), and downloaded memtest. I still got randomly BSOD (many per day) and have to restart. I have uploaded the files (all in one .rar-file) the crashes direct to, see attachment.
I'm trying to create RAID0 with two drives. The first is 320GB and second 1TB. I know it won't be 1,32TB. The summary capacity should be 1229,5 GB (298.0 + 931.5). It asks for RAID name, RAID level, Strip Size and Capacity. Capacity is by default 596.2 GB and below is "The default value indicates the maximum capacity using the selected disks....". I hope the maximum size could be at least 1100GB. How is it possible to have available only a half of the smaller drive? I have:
GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3-B3 (BIOS version F10) Drives Samsung (320GB) and Western Digital (1.0TB) CPU: Intel Core i3-2100
Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 byte. Have a 1 tb external Seagate drive connected with USB 2. Disk capacity is showing 925GB. Have lost 75 GB. Is there a way to recover the the lost 75 GB?
I installed windows 7 on a laptop with Windows Vista 64-bit When installed, it installed on a D:drive with only 14.6 GB capacity. The C: drive was apparently allocated for the Vista OS. After reinstalling some of the applications, it has maxed out the D: drive capacity.
It looks as if it is loading the apps both on the C: and D: drives. How do I transition the default windows 7 OS to the C:drive which has 238 GB capacity? Will I need to reinstall Windows 7 to do this? Ultimately, I would like to eliminate Vista completely and only deal with Windows 7.
i do have an external HDD with a 250G capacity... i bought an enclosure then...i think i have this almost 3 years now...i have noticed lately that max capacity is now 150G...
just replaced my 350g hd to a 750g hd in my laptop. loaded the ghost image and when i open the computer icon it show me the same amount of storage i had before?
