Rebuilding the Windows 7 icon cache has not worked in the past.
Explorer And Built In Apps Freeze When Type?
Dec 13, 2011For a long time now, I've been having issues with Explorer.exe and the built in apps (cmd, notepad, not wordpad interestingly) freezing when I type anything. Now, this only happens when I first boot up my computer, for the first 10 minutes or so. During this time I'm reduced to using Chrome to surf the web or making batch files to run commands.I know for a fact that this is not an issue with my keyboard. I tried using the on-screen keyboard, and when I manually type stuff in with my mouse it will still freeze. I'm pretty sure it also happens when I boot into safe mode, but I'll check to be sure. [Update- looks like it doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode]

Mar 28, 2012After doing some Googling I discovered that it is impossible in Windows 7 to sort files by file extension -- one can only sort by file type, which depends on the file type description. This means that if I want to sort by file type, I need to rename the type descriptions of all my most commonly used files.
In addition, the only place where I can see a file's extension is in the file name itself, and not e.g. in the status bar when a file is selected. In Windows 7, the file type description (not the file extension) is also in the status bar.
In other words, in Windows 7 all files labelled e.g. "Opera Web Document" are sorted as if they have the same file type, regardless of whether they are .html, .htm, .mht, etc. And if I select a file and look at the status bar, the file's type is indicated as "Opera Web Document", without any clue as to the file extension. The only way for me to see the file extension is to increase the width of the "Name" column until the end of the file name becomes visible.
So... my question is:
Is there an easy way to simply rename the file type descriptions? I see that my JPG files are named "JPG File" and my PNG files are named "PNG" file, which is extremely useful. What I now want is to rename my HTML, HTM and MHT files' file types to "HTML File", "HTM File" and "MHT File", and the same would apply to all file types I often use (e.g. DOC, DOCX, XLS, XML, TXT, etc).

I attempt to download a file and get the download dialogue box but underneath the file name it says canclled and when i try to download anyway there are no files to be found. I use Mozilla as my default browser. I also tried downloading in IE, but that to did not work either.

I have tried numerous software movie makers including Windows live movie maker, but every program that I have tried gives the BSOD and reboots my computer. The system will boot back up and run with everything else as normal but as soon as I start the movie software the system goes down again. I have ran malware and spyware, cleaned the registers, checked the heat on the CPUs and ran error checking on the drives. Can't Open Any Type Of Cd In Windows 7. 3 Different Dvdrw's Connected
Apr 24, 2011I am trying to load battlefield bad company 2, sims, dvd's, and cd's on my computer, but when I go to My Computer and double click the dvdrw's, windows says it needs to format the disk.
if I press format, it has an error, if I dont, it also has an error.
I have installed 3 dvdrws that I have tested and had working in another computer, and the same goes for each one.
When I insert a disk, the mouse cursor shows the little CD right by it, but nothing happens after it blinks a few times.
Bios recognizes each dvdrw drive, they will boot windows 7 disk before loading windows even, disk management shows each one is working good.
I got one dvd to read through a third party program called dvd decrypter. I didn't go as far as to see if it would copy to the hdd, but it showed all the files.
I used another third party software to analyze the sims2 disk to see if it could copy (i didnt have the full version so I couldnt copy it onto the hdd) but it did show the files as well.
I cannot see any music disks, cdrws disks, dvd's, etc in itunes or windows media player.

The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.
