Ok i have just finished my system build and i have figured out that i want Windows 7 Home Premium x64. But i am confuses as to which type to buy.i currently have Windows 98 on disk. So i just want to know whether to buy OEM,Upgrade, 'Full' or something else that i don't know about.
When I type in Word 2010, frequently my keyboard will refuse to type. It will type a couple letters and then I have to wait to get it to go on. Then it will type a few more, etc. Another time it will type without an issue.I have changed the battery.
I found a few pix in my files that I want to edit with Photoshop. I can't open them in PS because they are Type 1 or Type 2. When I try to open them, PS says they are .jpg.1 or. jpg.2. How do I get rid of the .1 and .2 so they become normal JPG photo files?I can look at them with Windows Photo Viewer but I can't figure out how to convert them to normal JPG files.
How do I type in unicode characters such as "☑"?In XP you could add a "hexnumpad" key to the registry and then type "Alt +2611", but this doesn't seem to be working. I can still type regular ASCII Characters using the numpad, however.
I would like to perform "Incremental Backups" rather than backing up all my files every time I run Backup. Just backup the files I changed and new files and folders that I added.I have heard of Acronis, but have no experience using it. I am not planning on buying new software in order to achieve my objectives. Is there a way of doing this type of incremental backup in Windows 7 64-bit? Here are my drives stats:
-C: 750 GB (overkill, but I had this) Contains the OS (Win 7 64-bit) and some other programs. -R: Two 1 TB each - All my data files, photos, music, videos, etc, are this drive which is RAID1 (mirroring). -Z: 1.5 TB single external drive - Dedicated Backup drive - data backup as well as disk image of C:
I have a dell inspiron and am using windows 7 home edition. . I cannot download any type of files. I attempt to download a file and get the download dialogue box but underneath the file name it says canclled and when i try to download anyway there are no files to be found. I use Mozilla as my default browser. I also tried downloading in IE, but that to did not work either.
After the last Windows update the type in Windows Live Mail went all funny. As you will see in the image this only applies to the application type not the type in the view message window.I did a system restore to before the update and it corrected it.This screwed up another program that I had just installed to I went back to the original restore point and the error came back.Anyone have any idea how I can fix this without going to the earlier restore point?I haven't tried removing and restoring Live Mail because I don't want to lose some of the messages that I have in it right now.
I have MP4 videos that I am trying to make into a movie. I have tried numerous software movie makers including Windows live movie maker, but every program that I have tried gives the BSOD and reboots my computer. I am presently using Movie Plus 5, but it too gives the BSOD within 10 minutes of use. The system will boot back up and run with everything else as normal but as soon as I start the movie software the system goes down again. I have ran software for checking all drivers, for sure the NVIDIA Video drivers and they show that they are all up to date. I have ran malware and spyware, cleaned the registers, checked the heat on the CPUs and ran error checking on the drives. I have been hunting this squirrel for 2 weeks now and I think its time to bring the big dogs in.

I just found a very very strange issue that my Windows 7 Ult x64 installation has. Whenever I type in any of the built in programs (like CMD, explorer, the search bar in the start menu, notepad, etc.), the program freezes. But when I try to type in any other program, like Chrome, it works just fine. Does anybody know how to fix this? It's quite annoying, and I sorta need to use my computer...
Keyboard: Razer Lycosa I did check for driver updates already.
I am trying to load battlefield bad company 2, sims, dvd's, and cd's on my computer, but when I go to My Computer and double click the dvdrw's, windows says it needs to format the disk.
if I press format, it has an error, if I dont, it also has an error.
I have installed 3 dvdrws that I have tested and had working in another computer, and the same goes for each one.
When I insert a disk, the mouse cursor shows the little CD right by it, but nothing happens after it blinks a few times.
Bios recognizes each dvdrw drive, they will boot windows 7 disk before loading windows even, disk management shows each one is working good.
I got one dvd to read through a third party program called dvd decrypter. I didn't go as far as to see if it would copy to the hdd, but it showed all the files.
I used another third party software to analyze the sims2 disk to see if it could copy (i didnt have the full version so I couldnt copy it onto the hdd) but it did show the files as well.
I cannot see any music disks, cdrws disks, dvd's, etc in itunes or windows media player.
I tried to find a driver for my web camera canyon. the page you are asking me to write my web camera model, but the camera is only these symbols: CANYON Web Camera F / # 2.0 the problem is that my windows 7 can not find a driver for that type of camera.
I am not looking to select a file here or there and hide them myself. The byproduct of editing certain files in video editing software is they create extra files to the files already. Is there a way I can tell windows 7, "Can you hide any files with the.sfk extension from here on out?
I keep losing the icons in Explorer, even with a fresh install of Windows 7. It takes some time, but sooner or later they disappear. It's always Internet Explorer first (associated with .mht files) and now I've lost Chrome (associated with .htm).
Rebuilding the Windows 7 icon cache has not worked in the past.
How to find out what type of Windows memory diagnostics test was chosen. I know that the results are psoted in windows event log but I don't know which number or line corresponds to what type of test was used (standard , default or extended). I don't remember what type I've chosen and I really would like to know how to determine it by files in event log.
I recently edit my Group Policies in Windows 7 x64. I disabled several SQL accounts and set those accounts to deny logon locally. When I rebooted the machine none of my accounts can log in. The machine is not a domain controller, but the error is along the lines of this type of login is not allowed on this machine. How do I resolve this?
Up until a couple of weeks ago all of my Adobe Open Type fonts worked fine. Now I a getting a atmlib.dll error. Says it is not designed to work on Windows. Seems to have happened after a Win 7 update.
I had 3 drives. my windows7 was installed on drive C. And I had 130GB unallocated space. I wanted to make new drive in this space with Minitool Partition Wizard.I read in mintool site that you can only have 3 primary drives. My E Drive was not important for me and I convert it to a logical drive and made a restart.Buuuut after restart my Windows 7 wont boot. Now I have fedora 15 and I see that all my drives and files are ok.
I ordered the 50$ Windows 7 upgrade disk. I realize that Windows 7 will need vista or XP already installed for the upgrade version of Windows 7. But if I want to upgrade my Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit, Will I be able to do it with this upgrade disk? after all I will need a fresh install (because 32 to 64) and this is the upgrade version...
I have a pc with Windows XP pro 32bit retail version. First I have made an image, just in case. Then I have upgraded it to windows 8, 64bit by using the retail upgrade DVD and clean install. However, I found out that my motherboard is so old (5 years old) that there are no drivers for win8 and after asking ASUS they said that the motherboard is not supported any more and that there will be no new drivers for it. I tried using win7 drivers but it did not work and without correct drivers a lot of things does not work (in particularly hdmi port). What I want to do now is to revert to my image (windows xp), buy a Windows 7, 64bit upgrade retail DVD and upgrade windows xp to windows 7 for which there are drivers for my motherboard.
1) Can I use windows xp retail (whose product key has already been used to upgrade to win8) image to upgrade to windows 7 retail? will the activation of windows 7 succeed? I want to use clean install again since i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit
2) If the answer to question 1 is a yes, how does microsoft prevent users from using the same windows image file to upgrade different pc's? I mean, theoretically, I can make an image of pc1, copy it to a hard drive of pc2 (even if it will result in erroneous installation due to different specs) and upgrade both systems by using two VUP product keys which are cheaper than one VUP + one retail product keys
3) Can I use windows 8 upgrade DVD which is not used any more to upgrade another PC?
I purchased Windows 7 Professional through the Ultimate Steal.
Downloaded it, put it on a disk also.
It will go through the start of the setup and copy files etc, and then it will give an error and say to install from a current version of windows I need to use the upgrade anytim through windows.
But when I go to upgrade anytime it asks for an upgrade key, but all I have with the purchase was a product key and it says that I can't use the product key.
any help?
edit: also i have windows 7 home premium installed right now
and here is exactly what it says:
"To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade. "
seen a few similar posts floating around but nothing that is exactly my issue or gives a suitable answer.m running Win 7 64bit on a desktop, I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and Wacom tablet. So I could not type in my windows password this morning, either using the Logitech keyboard or the on-screen one with the mouse. After about an hour of trying and several restarts (and my primary and secondary monitors switching for some reason), I could put the password in Once in Windows I found there was a keyboard issue: I was only typing the occasional special character (an accented i was one:) . Trying to type a test email I had the i-cursor available in the header (title-box) but not the body, even the special characters could not be typed in the main body. For some reason I picked up my pen tool, moving this over the email body produced a control/Alt yellow box prompt next to the pen cursor pressed these keys, now all is fine
