Installation Error: Setup Cannot Continue Due To A Corrupted Installation File

Sep 13, 2009

I am installing Windows 7 (Custom installation initiated from Windows XP) but I get the following error message when the installation is on the "Installing updates" step of the installation:

"Setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file. Contact the vendor of your Windows installation disc or your system administrator for assistance."

Do you have any idea what the problem may be with the installation? Is there a way to see what file that may be corrupted?

I have tried to burn the DVD in low speed, but the error appears anyway. I have a MSI K8T Neo2-Fir mainboard and the Windows 7 upgrade advisor application says that my hardware is okay for upgrading.

Nvstor64 Error Type 3 Is Causing My PC To Hang Repeatedly

Aug 17, 2012

Bottom line up front - my PC is having repeated nvstor64 type 3 errors which cause it to hang and the only way to restart it is to hold the power button in until it shuts down. Full details here:Early July my PC started acting odd. Freezing, running slowly etc.

- I ran a virus scan from windows - nothing

- I ran another virus scan from a Linux CD which found a couple of things but nothing terrible and, after cleaning, the PC was no better.

Chkdsk revealed some lost clusters. I repaired those and ran sfc /scannow to repair the OS, which it did.A day or so later, still acting odd, I ran another chkdsk and...more lost clusters. A disk check utility in Ubuntu reported that the drive was failing so I bought a new drive, cloned the old drive onto it (it was still working) and...nothing! I read a thread that said it could be the sata cable, which didn't make much sense but I replaced it anyway and...still nothing!Another thread suggested updating the disk drivers. When I try to do that it tells me I already have the latest driver installed. Should I uninstall and reinstall anyway? Finally another thread said to update the bios...but I have no idea how to do that or whether it's worth the effort.the nvstor64 errors started on July 4th, about a week before I messed with anything. No idea why they would just start appearing like that but I am still getting the nvstor64 errors about every few minutes and I'm about ready to put a sledgehammer through it.

Permissions Error When Opening A File With Unknown Extension Type?

Sep 11, 2012

I am experiencing a problem with Windows 7 professional, 32 bit, where I am getting an error message (detailed below) when trying to open a file with an unregistered extension. For example, if I rename a file that ends in .txt and contains text, to something with a .test extension the "Open with..." dialog never appears, and I instead get the permission denied message. AVG premium is installed, however through a combination of disabling AVG as well as providing exceptions to the file extension, I can fairly safely rule out intervention from AVG. Windows Defender is disabled, Windows UAC is disabled as well. The Windows Firewall is on, but checking the settings for the firewall suggest no issues would be coming from there. To add to the fire, if I register the .test extension to open with notepad, the file will open fine and text is displayed as expected. Also of note, I can read the file from command prompt even when the extension is not registered to an application.

Create New Disk Parition Dynamic Disk Only

Mar 1, 2012

I'm trying to create a new disk partition so that I can install Windows 8 (Consumer Preview) on it. However, I'm running into an issue here. When I go to create the partition, I get to the final step and this is what I run into (see image below).I'm thinking of just leaving the space unallocated and formatting it when I do my install of 8, but then I'm afraid that might render my Windows 7 partition unbootable. Will that happen?

Installation Not Successful An Known Error Has Occurred Error 0x8008095

Jan 14, 2012

I have tried to install Windows 7 SP1 64 bit and it gave an error message of: windows update encountered an unknown error code 80246007. I also get the error message after my laptop restarts if the installation shows it supposedly installed: installation not successful an uknown error has occured Error 0x8008095. I have also tried the 3 steps to try before installing Windows 7 SP1 and I still get the above errors.I would like to know the following:

1. When we update Windows where does it store the updates. Because I noticed that each time I update I loose disk space and I am wondering if I could delete these updates once I know they work.

2. I noticed a folder in the color of purple. It is: c:userusernameApp Datalocalmigwiz in this folder it contains the following files: debug.txt, diagerrr.xml, diagwrn.xml, miglog.xml, setupact.txt, setuper.txt what is the folder for.

3.I use windows disk cleanup and ccleaner. I noticed that when you install or uninstall programs it creates a restore point and shadow copies. I clean them out once a month. Is there anywhere else that shadow copies are created and can be deleted. How about does Windows 7 has a cache where we need to delete files. How many temp folders does windows 7 create. I would like to retain some disk space back. Do you know if Office 2010 where it stores it updates and can we delete them once we know they work.

Error 651 After New Windows 7 Installation?

Jan 28, 2013

I've just installed Windows 7 on top of my old XP machine. For the first hour I had no problems connecting to the internet. I downloaded antivirus protection (AVG) and Comodo firewall and windows 7 began updating itself. The comodo firewall download stalled and I had to manually reboot the computer. It seemed to start fine in normal mode and windows finished updating itself. Since then however (i.e. after the reboot) I have not been able to access the internet with an 'error 651" message displaying. I removed both AVD and Comodo with no change in the situation. I also did a system restore to before the windows updates, still no luck.

I access the internet via a broadband modem connected to a router. I don't have the full details of the models with me now but can repost in about five hours with the details if needed. I've searched online and note that many have said I should replace the raspppoe.sys file.

Since this is a brand new instal, should I just re-install Windows 7?

I've formatted the disk using diskpart on cmdprompt, partitioned it into an ntfs volume. it's still not accepted. the microsoft website says: "This problem occurs because Windows Vista cannot distinguish between ambiguous hard disks. In versions of Microsoft Windows Setup that are earlier than Windows Vista Setup, hard disks are marked with distinct values to distinguish them.owever, this method of distinguishing hard disks is no longer supported because of the potential for data corruption on hard disks. follow these steps: Create one or more partitions on all the hard disks that are not initialized. Windows 7 RAM Installation - Memory Mismatch Error

Jan 21, 2012

I have 8 ram slots with one gig sticks in each which gives me 8 gigs of ram, Which my computer uses completely. I recently purchased 8 more gigs on two sticks, but when I install them it gives me a memory mismatch error, but it stills starts up. When I go to my computer properties menu it says 14 gigs ram (4 usable). Like I said there are 8 slots, 4 with white push tabs, 4 with black push tabs. I tried multiple combinations with the ram. Sometimes the computer would beep and not Start, others it would start up but still give me the mismatch errors. Need to update BIOS, Which I did. I have to change my BIOS settings to "Enable dynamic memory remap", but the problem is that I can't get into my BIOS. For some reason windows 7 isn't giving me a BIOS option (DEL) on the POST screen. It only gives me the option of going into system settings F2 or Boot menu F12. I tried ESC F1-F12 DEL END...to no avail.

Windows 7 USB Device Driver Installation Error

Oct 12, 2012

I recently bought a refurbished Hp m6-1035dx, with OEM windows home premium 64bit.Additionally I also purchased a Samsung 830 SSD and and Optical Bay Caddy. My plan is to install the SSD in the Main Drive Bay and tranfer the current stock hitachi HDD into the Optic Bay. I was considering cloning my OS to the SSD, but decided to go for a fresh install of Windows 7 instead, considering my current OS files take up 40gb (which seems like a lot to me). So considering I have an OEM Windows 7 I opted to try the USB installation, using the guide provided on this forum. Everything was going well until I received the Device Driver error message "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing...etc" which is followed by the option to browse for the device driver. I have read numerous forums on this issue and none of the solutions have worked for me. For example I have tried switching the USB ports, I have actually tried all my USB ports, with no success. Some forums suggest I load the SATA/RAID drivers into my USB and then select those through the browse option. I have no tried this yet, as I have thus far been unsuccessful in locating these drivers. My next move was to burn the ISO onto a disc instead.

Windows 7 X64 Installation Error: Black Screen After Reboot

Jan 11, 2013

i have a MSI A6000 Laptop. Ive been trying to fix this problem for 2 day with 12 hours time and read countless forums but still haven't been able to solve it.

I recently encountered windows 7x64 installation error, where i could not select disk partition to install. ( i formatted and deleted all of the partitions for a clean install). But somehow after running the memory diagnosis i was able to go through the installation. But during the installation on the second time it restarts, my computer gets a black screen when starting.

i cannot access the post screen menu or the recovery option( it is however possible to access the same thing via booting through the USB and selecting the recovery option instead of installing). Also the memory diagnosis tool does not work any more giving an error. The bios options are as follows:

MAIN : Serial ATA [Hard Disk]
Serial ATA [ATAPI CDROM]
Advanced: PCI Latency timer [64]
Legacy USB support [enabled]
AHCI Mode [endabled]

Installation Error - Freezes On Starting Windows 7 Screen

Jun 12, 2009

A while ago i dual booted windows 7 onto my vista running laptop and it works perfectly. It is a huge improvement on vista, it is faster, better designed and its new features are very useful. Because of this success I know am trying to dual boot it onto my xp running desktop. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to like it.

I have used the same technique that i did on my laptop to install it. I have burnt the iso file onto a disk and run that disk while the computer is running. Checked for online updates and done a clean install. The installation works fine and quite quickly until it comes to the first restart. It restarts and I select "windows setup" on the bios screen as apposed to "an earlier version of windows" which is my xp partition.

It then changes to the starting windows screen that happens just like on my laptop, except the windows logo never materializes and it stays as a black screen with the words "starting windows" on it. i have left the computer on overnight and no change. I have tried reinstalling several times with no luck, both using the same method as before and booting from the disk at startup. Although when I boot from the disk it just skips straight to the same frozen windows startup screen.

I have downloaded the windows 7 adviser software but the program cant seem to make its mind up. Sometimes it announces that my graphics card cant run windows 7 aero and sometimes its fine. I have checked the windows 7 specs and my graphics card appears to meet all the requirements, both dedicated memory and direct x 9 support.

Here are my pc specs:
Dell dimension 5150
XP professional sp3
3ghz intel pentium 4
5 gb RAM
Radeon x300 SE 128mb hypermemory
direct x 9.0
creative SB live! 24-bit
