I use the search box from the start button alot. The searching works great, but when I click on one of results the box is gone. So if I want to go back and look at one of the other results, I have to go back and type in the search box again to see the same results...how do I get the contents to "persist" so I don't have to repeat this to view another result?
System was an upgrade from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64. Everything seems to be working great -- except...
Windows Live Mail contents are not being indexed by Windows Search. In troubleshooting, I found in the Advanced Options for Indexing, File Types of "eml", it reports that "Registered IFilter is not found".
Anyone else have any idea how to fix -- anyone else experiencing the same problem?
see how in this picture: http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/re...10ab536484.jpg, in the search results, if the searched word is found inside a file, a few lines of text are show with the word highlighted. i'm using windows 7 and this does not happen for me. if a word is found in file contents, i'll get it listed in the results, but it won't show me the context of it like in the picture.
My OS is Win7x64 IE9. The difficulty I am experiencing has to do with the game of SolitaireAt times the deck acts as if I have double-clicked on it. And when I go to undo it will keep showing the same cards until I persist. Sometimes when the game is ended and I click on "play again" the cards just show up without any shuffle. Tried to find tutorials on similar incidents and found none.[CODE]
I installed new folders, then decided I wanted to move them to become subfolders of another folder. Drag & drop (left-click) moved the folders to become subfolders, but left the folder icons in the old location as well. When I try to delete them, I get an error message saying the folder doesn't exist at that location. OK, it shouldn't, but why can't I/how do I delete the (old) folder icons?
Outlook 2007 Task search versus Windows7 computer wide search.
I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?
some specifics and pinpoint the differences (or maybe a good website) that would pinpoint the differences between the Windows 7 search and the outlook 2007 search? I know the outlook search searches through email but are there other difference I am overlooking between the two?
Is there any way to replace the Desktop Search with the 'Ole Dog ( Search Companion) You can not find all the related files with Desktop search like you could with Search Companion.
I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.
how i can search for torrent files with windows 7 search function?when i look for my downloaded files (downloaded via µtorrent),then i can i only find my downloaded files, but no torrent files(the torrent file still exists in my µtorrent program,so i am sure i still have the torrent file).
Not only does my search bar lacking in search filters (cannot search for videos only etc) but I could never get print screen to work. With XP I never had any of the above problems. How can MS downgrade their OS to such an extent??
I face the old fashioned problem (now) in Windows 7 Explorer that, after a data backup (imgBurn) to DVD, the new DVD contents is not displayed until I cycle the tray!?
I had it plugged into my laptop when I was blowing it off and putting a copy of XP Pro on it. When it said to delete the partition, I clicked on the USB drive on accident. Now plugging it into Win 7 computer, it wants to format it. Is there any way to get my files? I have one word document in particular that has been my life's work. I had not backed it up in over 2 months.
I want to stream content over a LAN. One computer will act as the "content host" and one or more computers will act as "content clients". Is there any software that can stream content from one computer to several computers. My network contains DHCP addresses, and it is comprised of Windows 7 x64 Professional Computers. Ideally the "content streaming" solution will be compatible with Multiple Operating Systems.
ive a large folder containing approx 2000 e-mails from approx 20 colleagues ... Id like to be able to count how many from each! And how many per day, etc. This would be possible by eg exporting to CSV file for analysis in eg Excel... But how to do? Or is there a better way? (PS I'm using WLM 2011. And I dont have Outlook.)
I wonder if I can remove the application "DAE9.exe (application for Windows Internet Explorer)" located at: C: Users Christian Cdiz AppData Roaming Microsoft 64FD..This application will be a window on the desktop with the message:"Are you sure you want to exit this application" with a message attached:"Message from website: click below to continue browsing cancel on localpages" options: "Out of this page" "Stay on this page".
Working on my Acer Aspire yesterday, I went to open a file in Photoshop and couldn't find the file in the folder where I knew it was located. Furthermore, none of the files previously located in that folder were there anymore either, though the folder itself was in its proper location in the file hierarchy. After searching desperately around, I finally found the missing files in an entirely different folder. That folder had always been there, but with nothing in it.
I am having a problem with memory cards (SD) contents being recognized on a Windows 7 Pro machine. I am using an internal card reader, and have virtually eliminated it being a hardware problem because a new replacement unit gives the same results. The first time a card is placed in the reader after the computer is booted, the card is recognized but not the contents. In Windows Explorer, the card is designated "Removable Disk (H)". When I attempt to navigate to the contents, a window opens titled "Insert Disk", prompting that a disk be inserted into the drive.I can correct this on subsequent card insertions by clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray. When clicking on the specified card/device (only item showing) I am prompted that "Removable Dish (H)" is currently in use". There are no applications open including Windows Explorer. Of the choices given, (Cancel, Try Again and Continue) selecting Continue results in an indication that it is safe to remove the hardware. When I remove the card and replace it, I don't get the expected Autoplay prompt, but when I open Windows Explorer the disk shows with the same drive designation, but this time with the volume showing instead of "Removable Disk". I can then navigate and find files and folders on the card.Removing the card again and reinserting it using the same procedure the second time results in the Autoplay window opening and the contents of the card being recognized in explorer. At this point everything works as expected and will continue to until the computer is rebooted.I would like to find a way to have the volume and contents of the card recognized and the auto play window open the first attempt after the computer is booted.
I'm having an issue with installing certain things, such as plugins for Firefox, but also other small software I have to download first. When I try to install, for example, the Flash plugin via the official website,I get this message in a popup."C:Users*name*AppDataLocalTemp could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location."I'm not sure how to set either of those things. But what should I do anyway? This is preventing me to do a whole bunch of things. For one, watching videos on the internet. Not so handy.
I tried using 7-zip, but I don't have it in the menu when I right click which it's supposed to be. So I went to the series of iso files and extracted them to a new folder but 4 minutes later all the files were in just one big iso and when I tried to extract that, it said the archive couldn't be accessed. I'm not trying to make a bootable disk; I need the files within the iso and I would rather not waste DVDs unnecessarily.
I just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed and have run into this issue twice, both times with a particular folder - let's call it "UsefulDocuments2" (the actual folder name DOES have a 2 at the end, but there is no folder called "UsefulDocuments").
Sometimes, when I try to view the folder contents using Explorer or through Windows Live Mail (in an attempt to include a file in the folder as an attachment), I can't view the contents of the folder. When I access the folder, it has the proper path listed in the address bar of the window and displays the number of items (171) in the lower left corner. However, the status bar just says "Searching for items..." except I can occasionally see it flicker to say "171 items."
While it is "Searching for items..." (which is 99.9% of the time), it doesn't display any of the contents of the folder. The scrollbar on the side of the window constantly flickers - it's recognizing that there are 171 items in the folder and that the scrollbar is necessary, but then keeps re-searching the folder contents, I guess.
Weirdly, if I change the folder name to, say, "UsefulDocuments" it works fine (at least right now). If I then change it back to "UsefulDocuments2" it reverts to its old behavior. Also, if I open a file in it in Word (2010), I can view and access the contents of the folder without any problem at all.
Obviously, I can just change the folder name, but don't really want to for organizational reasons, and also am just curious as to what's going on and how to fix it should it happen to other folders, etc.
I bought a sony vaio, with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, but the manufacturer had installed 32 bit OS instead of 64. The service center guys re installed the 64bit OS for me using recovery media(DVD-Rs) , but what i'm confused is, whether the recovery partition has the same old 32bit OS which came with the laptop?
I was using Chrome looking at some info on Cisco's website and my browser crashed, and all the contents of my Documents folder are missing as well as the desktop shortcuts associated with them.I've tried system restore but that didn't even complete, and EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional and I have not been able to locate them.
I want to do a system restore on a HP pavilion DV7 through the recovery image found in the recovery partition. However i want to be sure if a certain file(software) is included in the recovery image. How can i reveal all the contents? I've tried my computer tools>view>folder options and changing a couple of setting. Didn't reveal much. I've also tried checking the list of recoverable softwares in the HP recovery manager but its(microsoft office starter 2010) is not listed.
My computer does not show contents of windows, diaglog boxes when I drag them. Look like this figure: Then I verify the visual effects settings in Performance Options box (System Properties > Advanced system settings > tab Advanced > click Settings under Performance > tab Visual Effects):Note that I have the option "Show window contents while dragging" checked all the time by selecting "Adjust for best appearance" To let it show the contents, I have to do these:
1. Uncheck "Show window contents while dragging". Click Apply.
2. Select "Adjust for best appearance" again (or check "Show window contents while dragging" again) then click Apply.
when I restart my computer, or shutdown and then start it again, the problem is still: it does not show the contents of dialog boxes or windows when I drag them although the option "Show window contents while dragging" is checked.

I'm trying to take a screenshot of my music folder but it is too big to just alt+print screen. Is there a way to take a screenshot of the entire folders contents built into windows or a 3rd party program that can do it.
I'm using 7057. Not sure when this problem started as I don't use CDs or DVDs that much. The drive works fine, ImgBurn works fine, all other programs seem to see the files on a disk fine, they just don't show up in Windows Explorer. I click on the drive in the "Navigation Pane" and nothing happens. I've tried two good DVD drives, uninstalled ImgBurn and PowerISO, still nothing.
I love to keep track of directory contents by printing them out. Various reasons.
By going to a command prompt, then to the directory of choice, I can send the results of the "dir" command to "prn" with the ">" (greater than) sign.
There are all sorts of switches to affect the way the printout looks. The ones I like are /b followed by /o:gn which gives you names only, directories first.
I run into a problem when there are hidden and system files in a folder. The switch for them is /a:hs.
No matter how I present the switches, all of the above, I cannot get the dir command to print everything. I get either all of the non-h&s, or I get just the h&s.
I am trying to upgrade from Vista starter to win7pro 32 bit. My Vista is French and the upgrade will put win 7 on in English but the disc drive which works for everything else cannot see the disc
