transffering contents of rar file to desktop.. if i have a rar file which holds file content if i transfer contents of rar file to desktop the files will unpack but i can not operate the desktop while this is happening while rar file is unpacking i cannot even send at the same time anything to the bin.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have network backup utility that requires that i mount some network drives as the SYSTEM user. i created a bacth file to run at logon that works great.my issue is that this batch file contains plain-text password(s) that i would rather not have sitting there between logons.is there an easy way to fix this? another batch file that locks the 1st one after it is in use? i don't really know how to proceed here.i could make the batch file into an .exe archive with winrar, but is there a way to set up task scheduler to run a password protected .exe?

What I am trying to do is transferring a file(video file) FROM the laptop TO the PC. I can see the libraries of the PC and I can access them and also transfer FROM the PC TO the laptop. Now the problem is, when I tried transferring FROM the laptop TO the PC, a pop up window titled "DESTINATION FOLDER ACCESS DENIED" then the message is saying "you need permission to perform this action".I have enabled all possible sharing both in the PC and LAPTOP, to no avail.

Have followed microsoft's instructions (which worked fine for me earlier this year), as well as various other site's advice but everytime I import the new .pst file it simply loads up an empty inbox and deleted items folder. Also - each time I import the old data the new .pst file increases exponentially (I get multiple and I mean MULTIPLE inboxes...) until I have to restore it to its original state. I have checked the OUTLOOK compatibility is correct - I can only think it is a glitch casued by Windows 7 OS

When I double- click on any icon on the desktop I get : "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." It seems to be a security issue or else the Explorer has lost the mapping info for my C drive.I also can,t get the virtual disk service running, which means I can't do a repair install because the installer can't see my disks.

The funny thing is that right after I posted that thread, I found bugs with ad-aware and I was finally able to quarantine and restart.My only problem now is that my folders were locked (My Videos, My Pictures, My Music) possibly from running scans. I am not sure if they were locked from ccleaner or combofix or Mgtools. But they are locked and I seriously need to unlock them.I also have a desktop.ini file that mysteriously popped up after I ran the scans. I am the administrator of this computer. I cannot access certain files like My Videos, My Pictures, and My Music.

Leaving the torrent files on my desktop. I was able to delete them all apart from one.I can't budge it. I've used FileAssassin, LockHunter etc and I've also used CMD prompts.CMD prompt comes back with the answer that the file cannot be found, when it is starting right at me on the desktop. I can't move it to another folder, or rename it. FileAssissin can't find it and LockHunter can't find it. Unlocker didn't work either.

But files connected to programs, sample pics, txt. everything. Hundreds or even thousands of files have been moved onto the desktop, being layered on top. When we move a file to a temporary folder that has been created, others appear.
It sounds like every file had its address changed to be on the desktop. (ie C:UsersNameDesktop).
We are trying to get virus protection up (Norton is on the computer) but obviously the computer is only half working right now.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way for Windows Vista and 7 to use the Folder.jpg file in a folder as an album artwork icon (in lieu of a folder icon with skewed and obscured artwork), and since Windows no longer natively supports this feature, the best workaround I've been able to find is to replace the folder icon manually. This creates a desktop.ini file with an absolute path to the Folder.ico file I also have in each album folder. I then changed the desktop.ini to reference a relative path, like this:[.ShellClassInfo]IconResource=Folder.ico,0Here's where my questions arise:1. When I copy that desktop.ini to another folder with a Folder.ico file, Windows doesn't read it, even after restarting the computer. I've searched the web on this and have found thread after thread where people have the same issue, but no one seems to be able to resolve it without manually changing the icon, either through the Explorer interface or using the command prompt. Is there a way I can get Windows to read the manually-copied desktop.ini of every sub-folder in my music directory?

On a related note, when I copy my customized folders with the relative-path desktop.ini from my Windows Vista computer to my Windows 7 computer, the artwork doesn't show up there, even for the folders I got to look right in Windows Vista. Am I going to have to manually re-associate the desktop.ini every time I upgrade computers or reinstall the OS?The album artwork looks so good, but I don't want to go through hundreds of folders and manually associate the folder to read the desktop.ini file. This happens every time I try this. It restarts OK every time but never tells me why it crashed.When I go to do a System restore, it cannot complete the restore as it says a file cannot be accessed and that maybe an Anti-virus is running. View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically, I've recently made the long-overdue transition from a 5-years old Windows XP machine to a brand-new Windows 7 one, which I've now had for a few days. Only yesterday, what appears to be a small bug reared it's ugly head.
Any file or folder created or moved onto my Desktop is automatically duplicated with another instance of that item. I say an instance because it's not simply a copy of that file, strictly-speaking, because when the duplicate is clicked, it opens the original file. So, I'm left with two instances of the same file on my Desktop. Just to make this clearer, suppose that, as an example, I created/moved a Plain Text file onto my Desktop. A duplicate of that item would then appear. When clicked, this duplicate opens the very same file, meaning therefore, that I have two instances of the same file. In case you were wondering, the duplicate is also not a shortcut to the original file: bringing up its properties, it has the exact same properties as the originally-created one does. I hope everyone's following me so far.
As well as the strange behaviour mentioned above, the bug also affects deleting files or folders in the Desktop. As I've already said, two instances of the file are created when a file is created on the Desktop. In the same way, deleting one instance of the file also deletes the other - but not straight away. It registers as deleted, but the Desktop has to be refreshed for the other instance to disappear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble with remote desktop connection. I have successfully configured my desktop to remotely access it. But every time I start up remote desktop connection it prompts me to "Save File As ... *.xps". The application is driven by the mstsc.exe process, so it starts up when I start my remote session. If I try to save it, it immediately prompts me again for the same thing. Also my One Note Application starts up on my client pc (Laptop) and is also triggered by the RDP connection process.
Here is what I have already tried:
- Tried to just end the Save As .. Application thru windows task manager, but since it is driven by the mstsc.exe, It also closes the remote session
- I Also checked my remote desktop settings on my laptop to check and see if there are any programs listed to start up when I connect, but no progams are set!
Also every once in a while it actually starts up without the prompt and I actually experience a perfect and smooth remote session!
I recently activated internet at home. We are using a modem in which through my lap top i use wirelessly. Through my boyfriends desktop he bought a wireless adapter to connect wirelessly as well.I have no problems sharing anything on my laptop to the xbox or etc considering i have a homegroup option that allows me to do so..My boyfriend wants to share his music files plus etc to our xbox located in the living room.(his computer is in another room.)
