Sometimes when a file is saved to the Desktop on which some icons have already existed, the icon of the saved file is inserted between the last system icon (My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc) and the first ordinary icon.Is there a way to make the icon of a newly saved file always automaticaly placed after all the other existing icons, so that I don't have to drag it manually?
View 7 RepliesI'm on a brand new HP computer running Windows 7 and everytime I download a file from the internet or even save files from local programs to my desktop, they are saved as some sort of hidden file...or at least they behave similar to hidden files. The difference is if I open up an Explorer window and browse to my desktop, I can see them there that way, but there is no icon on my desktop for the file. I CAN see the the saved file on my desktop if I turn "view hidden files" on...but when I look at the properties of said files, they are not actually marked "hidden." I can even copy/paste that same file in my desktop and I will see the copied file show up visually on the desktop, but still not the original file unless I browse to the desktop in an Explorer window.When right clicking the desktop, "Show desktop icons" is turned on and I can view all of my other desktop file icons, shortcuts, etc.

When I try and delete this file icon I get the error message: "Could not find item. This is no longer located in C:UsersMynameDesktop. Verify the item's location and try again". This seems like a contradiction - Windows is showing a file icon on the desktop but then says there is no file there! I have tried searching for a file by that name elsewhere and there is nothing. I have also tried cleaning the reg and doing a disk cleanup. How to delete this useless file icon from my desktop?

Every time I log back in, they revert.In particular, Im trying to change the way a slideshow is displayed. I go to Desktop Background and change Position to Fit. I Save Changes and all seems to be well. I also save the desktop theme under My Themes. But when I log back in it goes back to Stretch. Am I missing some kind of permissions thing? On two occasions now I have been saving the files to the desktop as I usually do but when I go to the desktop the files are not there.If I look in the desktop folder, they are there. Running 64 bt Windows 7 Professional and scan for Malware yielded no issues.
p.s. When I reboot the files do appear on the desktop ....
When I try to retreive documents that I have saved on the desktop they are not there. However if I try to save another document the previously saved documents are showing up to the Saved Documents dialog drop down box. Where have they gone?

Thinking it will open in notepad (since .srt opens with notepad) i made it to 'OPEN WITH' notepad. Instead I get a bar on the bottom of the screen that gives the options of "open", "save", or "cancel". When I click "open" nothing happens. When I click "save" a file is saved in my download folder by the name of "utorrent_exe" with no extention. When I try to run it I get a message that asks what program I want to run it with. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an icon on my Win7Pro desktop that cannot be deleted, changed, or anything. I believe it was originally connected to a pdf file that I downloaded (from a reputable site) but the download was interrupted. It's file name is simply Donor.
When I try to delete it I get a flash screen that states: Could not find this item. This is no longer located (in desktop location). Verify the item's location and try again.
I cannot rename the file. It's properties shows that it is on the desktop but has 0 bytes.
I have tried about a gazillion things to no avail, including: Searched the registry for any entry that matches Donor, with nothing found. Booted into safe mode and tried from there with no luck, still won't delete. I am using full Kaspersky and a complete system sweep shows no malware, virus, etc. Found some sites that gave some script for trying to remove such files via the CMD prompt, but result always was that the file does not exist.
The icon is for a weather report for my area. Cannot remove, delete or rename it. Windows 7 says it doesn't exist!
