I recently uninstalled a small program & something went very wrong. My Windows 7 is totally screwed. When I double- click on any icon on the desktop I get : "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." It seems to be a security issue or else the Explorer has lost the mapping info for my C drive.I also can,t get the virtual disk service running, which means I can't do a repair install because the installer can't see my disks.
Whenever i take a file and put it onto the my desktop, all the permissions to the file is completely stripped. Leaving none able to open the file.I am able to go into access control and add myself again, but it makes no sense at all..
All of my view settings seem to stick fine, except when I choose File - Open Desktop in some application. Then it's Tiles view instead of my Details view, as saved for every other folder. in 7 x64I already tried resetting Folder view otions as per Folder View - Set a Default for All Folders
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.

I had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.
I'm Running Windows 7(64bit)Each time I boot into Windows 7 Prem (64) a open window apears requesting my username at the top of the open window to specify a a program to open it?I've clicked on note pad and I get the following information that apears, each time though it requests, or looks for a program to use to open.
if i go to the start button to go to my computer the window will open on the first try , but say i try to go to my computer again it will just sit there and not open. the exployer window will open but not the contents inside.does not care how many times i try it will only open the window and show nothing inside , a bar will go across the top to show progress but still it will not open.if i restart the computer i can open up the my computer or just computer in W7.like right now i tried to open up the window to check my hard drive and im still waiting for it to open.this goes on on both of my computers running windows 7.all coms are updated to the fullest and im not overclocking or doing anything other normal stuff. So is there a bug or somthing that im missing , once again if i go to start , and hit computer the window will open on the first try , but if i do it to many times it will just open a window and just sit there.even further if i open it up and try to open a file it will just hang there and not open , there is no error warning or nothing.

I'm on a network where I keep my files but I'm very aware of whether or not these might be open elsewhere. From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.
I just got a new Samsung RC420 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium edition OS. When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.
I turned on my sisters laptop and when i tried to open the internet the loading mouse icon would appear but it wouldn't open. This happened for all icons.
The deskop folders do open if I don't use google chrome. However, after I have been browsing on chrome for a while and want to open any desktop folders, they don't.

I work at an attorneys office and we subpoenaed a surveillance video from a local gas station. They sent us a CD with a file titled "viewer.bat", but I'm not sure what to do with it.
When I try to open it I receive the error message "viewer.bat not a valid Win32 application". I'm also not sure how a .bat has anything to do with a video file (unfortunately I have no experience with .bat files).
There are is also a folder on the CD called "disstech" and it has three folders in it called "bin", "dis" and "log". What am I working with here?

I tried to open a simple pdf file in Windows Live Mail but this super Windows 7 says there is no program associated to open it? It says to go the default programs section. So I did but even though I have Adobe Reader #10 installed it, of course, is not on the list of programs. Then, there is nothing to click on to add a program.
I'm running FireFox 4 and keep getting a "you have chosen to open" window that pops up as if I've download a PDF file and FireFox is asking if I want to open it or save it.The file is a manual I downloaded about a year ago from www.golfbuddyglobal.com and have since deleted.
I just installed windows 7 on a brand new system and was wondering how the hell I open the .bkf file that I made while backing up my data on windows xp?
Yesterday I was installing a number of fonts on my Windows 7 machine. I had installed 5 or 6 of them without incident, and then on the 7th just as I clicked "install", I got a BSOD with something about a memory error. I assumed it was just a one time hiccup so I restarted and attempted to install the font again, with the exact same results. I figured the font was somehow corrupt so I deleted the file from my desktop and looked in the Windows font folder to see if I needed to remove it but found no trace of the offending font. I next attempted to launch Photoshop CS5 and got a crash dialog before it ever launched. This behavior is currently continuous and I can't get PS to load at all. Illustrator however doesn't seem to have any problems and launches without incident. Also, if I try to access Windows Device Manager, I now get an error "MMC cannot open the file C:Windowssystem32devmgmt.msc".
I have a one year old HP pc with Windows 7. My problem is that quite a few of the desktop icons wont open, such as itunes, Advanced System Care4 etc. If I dbl-click on one, the pointer flickers momentarily and then nothing however if I open the task manager they are listed as running. Today I clicked on itunes and it didn't open so I gave up and left and watched an entire football game on TV. I came back 3 hrs later set down at my desk and all of a suden itunes popped up. Three hours to load the program. Same will happen with AVS4. I have turned off all start up items and shut down microsoft items at start up and that worked once then the problem began again so I tried it again but this time it knew what I was doing and went around the fix. )
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling softwares, registry fixes, registry cleaners ,Malwarebites,IOBits, AVG scans, Microsofts "sfc /scannow" but no signs of a virus or registry corruption. Even tried a memory scan. (said programs won't open from All Programs list either)
