Items On Desktop Won't Open?
May 31, 2011I turned on my sisters laptop and when i tried to open the internet the loading mouse icon would appear but it wouldn't open. This happened for all icons.

May 16, 2011I am able to copy and paste items onto my desktop. I can right click and create a new folder or text file on my desktop, I can move folders onto my desktop, but I can't move files from anywhere else on my hard drive to my desktop. Attempting to move a file to the desktop does not return any error, it just does not move from its location.

Mar 18, 2012I decided to run ccleaner again and make a virus scan. Some viruses were found and a lot of crap was deleted with ccleaner, I also disabled some things in the boot menu with ccleaner (or what is it called?). After that I turned my pc off but first Windows had to do some update. The next time I started my pc the taskbar and desktop were gone, the only thing that is there when it starts is a window with the drives etc.
- ctrl-alt-delete -> run -> explorer.exe -> normally the taskbar should show up but it opens another window with the drives
- replaced the explorer.exe file, nothing changed
- installed another anti-virus program, deleted some malware
- some other things I already forgot
EDIT: Forgot to mention, if I go to the control panel and click on "Taskbar and start menu" nothing happens, it doesn't open any window. Also, if I set a background and reboot the pc again, the background will be gone.

However, if I load any pictures from anywhere else they don't crash. Jan 28, 2009I visit these forums alot, and ran a search just incase, yet was not able to find this anywhere. It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.

When I double- click on any icon on the desktop I get : "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." Oct 16, 2011I have a one year old HP pc with Windows 7. My problem is that quite a few of the desktop icons wont open, such as itunes, Advanced System Care4 etc. If I dbl-click on one, the pointer flickers momentarily and then nothing however if I open the task manager they are listed as running. Today I clicked on itunes and it didn't open so I gave up and left and watched an entire football game on TV. I came back 3 hrs later set down at my desk and all of a suden itunes popped up. Three hours to load the program. Same will happen with AVS4. I have turned off all start up items and shut down microsoft items at start up and that worked once then the problem began again so I tried it again but this time it knew what I was doing and went around the fix. )
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling softwares, registry fixes, registry cleaners ,Malwarebites,IOBits, AVG scans, Microsofts "sfc /scannow" but no signs of a virus or registry corruption. Even tried a memory scan. (said programs won't open from All Programs list either)
