View 2 RepliesRecently, about every 1 in 3 or 4 times that I boot up my computer, Windows (7 Ultimate, no SP1) goes through the normal startup screen, but upon arriving at the desktop, no icons/Explorer/taskbar appear, nor does the cursor- it's almost completely frozen, just showing the desktop background. The only response I can get is via Ctrl+Alt+Del, which just brings me to a black screen, and Esc brings me back to the blank desktop, that's it. I don't have to hard reset to shutdown, if I just press the power button once, the desktop will fade to black (like a normal shutdown), and just turn off correctly (no unexpected shutdown messages or Kernel Power errors) after a while. It seems to be occurring increasingly often.I have not seen the problem occur in safe mode- however, because the problem does not occur every time, it could just be that I've only booted in safe mode on occasions when it wasn't going to do it.Looking at Event Viewer, the most consistent error I get in relation to this is WMI Event 10:
"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."Now, for this error, obviously the online help for that event suggests that the fix is to update permanent event subscriptions with the WMI Event Registration tool, but I'm very unfamiliar with WMI and such things, and while I'm sure I could figure it out given time, I'd rather solve this sooner rather than later, and I'm not getting anywhere with that program. Additionally, I ran WMI Diag, which came up with a large number of errors.
Other possibly related errors include:Event 1002 (though this is described as an unimportant, self-fixing error, which I can confirm, but it continually reappears, even though it's being fixed in between): The IP address lease 10.1.1.7 for the Network Card with network address 0x001F337767D6 has been denied by the DHCP server 10.1.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).Event 7001: The Network List Service service depends on the Network Location Awareness service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.Event 11: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk7\DR7.

Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.

I recently uninstalled a small program & something went very wrong. My Windows 7 is totally screwed. When I double- click on any icon on the desktop I get : "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." It seems to be a security issue or else the Explorer has lost the mapping info for my C drive.I also can,t get the virtual disk service running, which means I can't do a repair install because the installer can't see my disks.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a one year old HP pc with Windows 7. My problem is that quite a few of the desktop icons wont open, such as itunes, Advanced System Care4 etc. If I dbl-click on one, the pointer flickers momentarily and then nothing however if I open the task manager they are listed as running. Today I clicked on itunes and it didn't open so I gave up and left and watched an entire football game on TV. I came back 3 hrs later set down at my desk and all of a suden itunes popped up. Three hours to load the program. Same will happen with AVS4. I have turned off all start up items and shut down microsoft items at start up and that worked once then the problem began again so I tried it again but this time it knew what I was doing and went around the fix. )
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling softwares, registry fixes, registry cleaners ,Malwarebites,IOBits, AVG scans, Microsofts "sfc /scannow" but no signs of a virus or registry corruption. Even tried a memory scan. (said programs won't open from All Programs list either)
i run winows 7 and when i log in i can open the desktop icons for a while but then they stop working and the mouse wont open them or right click on them and neither can i right click on the open desktop as nothing happens.ive tried a system restore no good. when i restart hte computer its ok for a few minutes then the same problem again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been happily using Windows 7 Pro for a while now, but recently whenever I click on folders such as My Computer, My Documents, My Pictures or Recycle Bin etc, they flash open for a split second and then appear open on the bar at the bottom where open programs are. If I click the icon of the now 'open' folder, it flashes for a split second again (just like it did earlier) and then the process repeats itself!

View 9 Replies View Relatedyou know when you launch the open menu to upload or something and you select the desktop, it has all this crap at the top (Libraries Homegroup, user folder, eta) which you have disabled on the true desktop making uou have to scroll down to select the one thing that actually *IS* on the desktop?
how do you disable those folders so they don't show up?
When I open desktop folders the screen locks up or freezes and won't let me openfiles/folders within them. When I go into task manager it says that they are continually running and I need to end task. This still won't allow me to access them. It also happens on folders from a USB stick or when I go into computer with start main menus also. I am pretty sure it is Windows 7 I am using.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop. But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?
