No matter if I use Chrome or Firefox my computer freezes and ends up to "not responding" if the browser opens up initially on desktop folder for uploading a file to any websites.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to upload jpeg files to our website and the software package I use for that requires that the filename be entered in lower case in the format "filename.jpg". However, I've recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and note that JPG is being added in uppercase after my typed fileneme so that I end up with "filename.jpg.JPG" which is rejected by the uploading software. My web designer tells me that this is attributable to automatic file type recognition in Windows 7, and not to the upload software. How can I switch that off?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to solve my problem with "Not Responding" browser. My browser is Mozilla Firefox 18.0.1 (latest as of this date). When I browse using it, it starts normally but after a minute or two, the browser starts to "hang" and above the browser window, a "Not Responding" message shows up after the Mozilla Firefox name. This makes my PC slow down, and even opening the Task Manager takes a minute to show. But, if I wait, it will return to running status. It just too annoying to have this problem everytime I do browsing. I already uninstall and reinstall the browser but problem persists. I don't know if Mozilla Firefox is the problem, I have some doubt because I use this a long time before this problem occurred.

The same thing happens when I right click on a picture on the internet and try to save it to my computer. The only changes to my computer was I upgraded the Norton Anti Virus software. I've reinstalled IE9 and same thing. I tried reinstalling Norton and same thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought WD MyBookLive and I'm busy figuring out how to set it up. I'm confident that my problem has to do with the fact that I've mapped drives to the external backup drive.My problem is this: Whenever I use the Save-as dialog and I click the "Desktop" button so that I can save to the Desktop, the dialog freezes up for a while. Sometims, the dialog itself is not frozen (i.e. I can press Cancel to dismiss it) but the display where the icons from the Desktop are supposed to appear, remains blank. Sometimes, however, both the dialog and the program from which I called it freezes. If I wait long enough, the icons appear, and I can proceed with saving the file or navigating to subfolders on my desktop.This has only started today, after I started mapping drives. I don't think it has to do with WD's software because I had installed those yesterday and didn't notice this problem.
Thing is, even if I disconnect all my mapped drives, the Save-as dialog problem remains. Rebooting has no effect. It is as if Windows is trying to access some resource before it will show me the desktop icons, and it takes a long while for Windows to realise that it can't access that resource (or perhaps it just takes long to access it).This does not happen to all Save-as dialogs -- only to the types of Save-as dialogs that are non-resizeable and that show the five shortcut icons on the left (Recent Places, Desktop, Libraries, Computer, Network). I can actually save a file to the Desktop immediately, but I can't see the files on the desktop (in the dialog) nor can I browse to other folders from there, until I wait a long while. the same applies to Open-file dialogs -- the ones that look similar to the misbehaving Save-as dialogs have the same problem. If I want to open a file using such a dialog I have to wait a minute or two before the list of files display, or I can manually type in the file name and press "Open", and it will open the file.i'm using Windows 7 HP 64-bit.
Recently my compaq presario CQ56 has been running alot slower than usual, I have scanned with Spybot SnD, ESET and Free Malwarebytes, none of them found any viruses. I have a lower spec computer and it is faster on the same internet connection so I know it isnt the connection. This has only been happening for a week, I havent downloaded anything in that time.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy elderly parents have a one year old Dell laptop (I run the same) and it has been fine until today. The problem they have is that the Start menu and the Desktop icons will not respond. This has never happened to them before today.There has been no new hardware of software installed recently to have caused this. The laptop was running fine last night when it was last used and powered down.The laptop is running Win 7 64 bit and has SP1 installed. It has 4Gb RAM.I have tried talking my father through booting in safe mode and then doing a controlled shut down to see if this would rectify things it didn't. I have talked him through re-starting the machine from LKGC (Last Known Good Configuration)that didn't work.I have tried to get him to run explorer.exe but nothing happens.He has gone into Task Manager to end the task of explorer.exe and create it as a new task, but this hasn't worked.I also got him to try running sfc/scannow in safe mode and that didn't run!I know that it isn't a virus or malware as they run Norton 360 which is up-to-date.So, has anyone else had this and how did you fix it?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have the 64bit RC, and keep it updated through win updater.When I want to upload a picture to a website, I click on the "Browse computer" button, when I do the window opens for me to navigate to the picture ... as normal, however all it does is freeze, and then goes into (not responding) mode? I have tried it with Firefox and IE, both do the same so its not that, and I have done it on numerous sites, so its not the site?
View 9 Replies View Relatedover ther past couple of weeks i have been having a problem with IE when some web pages would not open. after refreshing the pages, they would eventually come up. a problem i could live with. i was also having a problem with my thumb drives. it seems i was able to open them on my laptop, but when i went to another computer, they would not open some of the files on them. on another desktop, as soon as i plugged int the thumb drive, it showed there was a virus on them. so i threw the thumb drives out. i installed a new thumb drive, and decided to do a Norton scan, and also a MSE scan on the thumb drive. the Norton showed W32.silyFDC, and the MSE came back with 4 trojons(i should have writen them down). i cleared up the virus on both. when i started my compter this moring and opened up IE, Norton webpage opened(yahoo is my default) and said that my default homepage was ereased. i now also notice on my desktop 2 icons of "desktop.ini". also when i run malwarebytes after about 4 mins or so, it freezes up "not responding" and i have to close it out.i did a full norton run on my computer this morning and it came back clean. but i suspect that there is something still going on that MBAM stops running after 4 mins.

My browsers also stop responding and crashes (usually with java or flashplayer) I have updated all java`s and flashplayers btw.I monitored my pc using afterburner (did no clocking whats so ever, was at default) and all temparatures where normal - at 30C on idle and around 50-60C while gaming.

After the usual startup process which is fine, it logs onto my user and the screen just goes all black.. No taskbar, icons or anything. Mouse clicking doesn't work, and only occasionally i can provoke the taskmamager to work with ctrl, alt, del.. But what ever i click there it just sends me back to the black screen.. Its really annoying and ive considered just formating it, but the windows cd i have is only an upgrade version which i cant use as it just says the system is too new.. And i really cant afford a new win 7 cd.. Especially not with the soon release of win8..

I have just bought a new laptop with Windows 7. I have thoasands od photos and many home movies stored on USB sticks. Problem is when I plug it in there is no option to select which files I would like to copy. I have looked in the settings and can not find the option, it just copies all which I don't want that.
It also saves them by date and not in the named files I have them in on the key.The same with my camera, I use photos for Ebay and on XP would select the ones I wanted, saved to a file and then could easily adjust them. Now it just wants to copy them all. Also can you suggest a user friendly program for adjusting my photos.
Whenever i take a file and put it onto the my desktop, all the permissions to the file is completely stripped. Leaving none able to open the file.I am able to go into access control and add myself again, but it makes no sense at all..

To start, use the Snipping Tool or whatever screenshot program you prefer and save it as a .jpeg/jpg/jpe.
When you are ready to include a screen shot in your thread/post, click on the paperclip in the reply box, where it will go to the Manage Attachments page.
From there, click on the browse button to open up the File Upload window.
Insert you image and click on The Upload button to the right.
You can also upload the file from a url.
Now, close the Attachment window at the top right.
You can now reclick on your paperclip..
and pick the file to insert into your post.
I have two blank files on my desktop. I can't rename them, and I can't delete them either! When I try and drag it over to the Recycle Bin, nothing happens. When I try and delete one of them, I get the message "Could not find this item".

When I double- click on any icon on the desktop I get : "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." It seems to be a security issue or else the Explorer has lost the mapping info for my C drive.I also can,t get the virtual disk service running, which means I can't do a repair install because the installer can't see my disks.

The funny thing is that right after I posted that thread, I found bugs with ad-aware and I was finally able to quarantine and restart.My only problem now is that my folders were locked (My Videos, My Pictures, My Music) possibly from running scans. I am not sure if they were locked from ccleaner or combofix or Mgtools. But they are locked and I seriously need to unlock them.I also have a desktop.ini file that mysteriously popped up after I ran the scans. I am the administrator of this computer. I cannot access certain files like My Videos, My Pictures, and My Music.

Sometimes when a file is saved to the Desktop on which some icons have already existed, the icon of the saved file is inserted between the last system icon (My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc) and the first ordinary icon.Is there a way to make the icon of a newly saved file always automaticaly placed after all the other existing icons, so that I don't have to drag it manually?
View 7 Replies View Relatedhave looked many different forums and different solutions but nothing is working to delete this file from my desktop.I let my sister borrow my laptop while I was away, and she had downloaded these torrent's to my system. Leaving the torrent files on my desktop. I was able to delete them all apart from one.I can't budge it. I've used FileAssassin, LockHunter etc and I've also used CMD prompts.CMD prompt comes back with the answer that the file cannot be found, when it is starting right at me on the desktop. I can't move it to another folder, or rename it. FileAssissin can't find it and LockHunter can't find it. Unlocker didn't work either.
