Hope I can explain my difficulty. I have duplicated folders album name for all my music files, As there is quite a considerable number I wondered if it was possible to batch file (automate) the process. I can not delete "d" as this would delete all the tracks. What I need to do is move the tracks at "e" into folder "c" and delete the then empty folder "d" Folder structure.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to read several .txt files and search them for a specific string, lets say "key1" and "key2." If the file has key1, then it needs to be moved into directory1. If the file has key2, then it needs to be moved to directory2. There's no telling ahead of time what line the string is going to be on, so I'm guessing I could use "Find" to search for the key? Then how do I loop through all the files, read them, then sort them into the different directories?

I have a computer that is a drone specifically for an outside LED sign. This computer is designed to never shut off and doesn't have any other program on it besides Operating System and the sign software. I have a folder with around 2000 files in it. I want to be able to copy certain files from this folder (normally around 40) and place them in a brand new folder, I want to be able to do this with nothing more than a txt file that has all the file names I need copying in it with every file name on a separate line.I receive around 10 new txt files each day so you can imagine how tedious it is searching through 2000 files, picking out the 40 I need, times a day everyday.To make things even more complicated, the txt files I receive don't always have the correct file names in them, maybe there's a misspelling or a word or two missing for some of the names. That's ok when I'm going through picking out the files I need to copy myself because I can normally tell which file is being requested, but I can't see it being so easy for a program or whatever to do, I'm guessing it'll need to have a search feature where it picks out the most likely file.I'd like it to be as automated as possible. I receive the txt file, make sure each file name is on a separate line then a program or script or whatever goes out and picks out the files (or most likely files for the name's that aren't exact matches) and copies them into a brand new folder (which I'd like to be the same name as the text file it's using to choose the files).

View 9 Replies View RelatedSince 2 days, in a certain folder, I cant rename, move or delete folders or files. Now, it has spread to my desktop as well. If I rename a folder, even a new folder, the name changes ''magically'' within seconds to restore to its previous name. If I move the folder or file, it comes back and if I delete it, it restores. I tried to make a system restore, even format (!), the problem persists. I use this folder to tag and rename my new mp3s so I have to be able to 1) rename, 2) move the folders the files and folders in it.

However, these other batch files take awhile to run. and so the entire process takes a very long time, since each "sub" batch file is run only after the previous one is finished.I was wondering if there is a command or way to start a batch file fro the top-level batch file, then go on and start the next batch file before the previous one is finished. Furthermore, none of the files previously located in that folder were there anymore either, though the folder itself was in its proper location in the file hierarchy. View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed and have run into this issue twice, both times with a particular folder - let's call it "UsefulDocuments2" (the actual folder name DOES have a 2 at the end, but there is no folder called "UsefulDocuments").
Sometimes, when I try to view the folder contents using Explorer or through Windows Live Mail (in an attempt to include a file in the folder as an attachment), I can't view the contents of the folder. When I access the folder, it has the proper path listed in the address bar of the window and displays the number of items (171) in the lower left corner. However, the status bar just says "Searching for items..." except I can occasionally see it flicker to say "171 items."
While it is "Searching for items..." (which is 99.9% of the time), it doesn't display any of the contents of the folder. The scrollbar on the side of the window constantly flickers - it's recognizing that there are 171 items in the folder and that the scrollbar is necessary, but then keeps re-searching the folder contents, I guess.
Weirdly, if I change the folder name to, say, "UsefulDocuments" it works fine (at least right now). If I then change it back to "UsefulDocuments2" it reverts to its old behavior. Also, if I open a file in it in Word (2010), I can view and access the contents of the folder without any problem at all.
Obviously, I can just change the folder name, but don't really want to for organizational reasons, and also am just curious as to what's going on and how to fix it should it happen to other folders, etc.
I was using Chrome looking at some info on Cisco's website and my browser crashed, and all the contents of my Documents folder are missing as well as the desktop shortcuts associated with them.I've tried system restore but that didn't even complete, and EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional and I have not been able to locate them.

On both computers, Windows Explorer shows the user on the other computer under HomeGroup, and under each user is Documents. But when I click on Documents, nothing changes. It seems that it isn't reading the contents of the documents folder on the other computer.

In my old computer with Windows 7, I think I used TweakUI (which worked) and Junction for my iTunes folder.In my new Windows 7 laptop, I read about this mklink feature (which seemed to pass me by). My mouse is the arrow with the busy circle at 2'oclock of it constantly, so something is running. I checked my processes and they seemed to all be normal. I updated everything including windows.net 4 so I don't know what else to try.

I'm modifying an old game.. including patches, and modifications. I want to make my own installer using WinRar but WinRar doesn't do registry keys. I thought I'd make a self executing batch file with all my needed registry keys and point WinRar to that during install.
