so after a failed attempt to restart the system, i held the power botton on the tower for 5 sec and it turned off.
now the system constantly gets stuck on programs.
cant index correct(directories)
for example, if i want to open cpu-z, it gets stuck at the 3rd bar
if i want to open "Computer" it gets stuck and only shows the box
it cant even index C drive or open the optical drive!
I am having a big issue with my computer. I originally ran windows xp professional until i upgraded to adobe cs5 and needed to switch to windows 7.now that i have windows 7 my programs stop working constantly. if i'm working in photoshop on a large photo the screen will go blank and a bubble will pop-up saying "driver stopped working but has started working again" and a lot of times photoshop, illustrator, and FL Studio will stop working and need to be shut down and started again. i've noticed sometimes when the computer is on overnight i'll wake up and it will be off. when i turn on the computer it will say that it didn't shut down properly. i was in the process of doing batch photo edits and it shut down on me right in the middle so i've got to figure out the problem. since i use this computer for freelance graphic design and photography. here are my specs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe issue is that all system functions, opening start menu, running control panel, opening folders or running internet explorer run extremely slowly, taking around 5-10 minutes to load or failing completely. Explorer.exe constantly fails and tries to restart. Safe mode seems to work like normal, no speed issues, he has since said it has run slow in safemode (he's not exactly happy right now, and so is snapping at me when i ask him about it so this could be a lie). The CPU is running at 1-2% constantly, i checked performance monitor idle time for it and it is consistantly showing high idle time so it's not like its thrashing. I have limited knowledge of his pc specs, i know he's running a 2.8ghz quad with 8gb ram (speed unknown but i doubt it'll have a relevance). I ran a sfc /scannow but came up with no errors, he doesn't have a restore point set (helpfull much?) and we cannot really access his antivirus effectively due to the whole speed of the system (2 hours before i managed to successfully open event viewer for example) Event viewer shows a number of issues which i will be able to provide more detail about tomorrow morning when he has calmed down a bit. We've tried to run the windows 7 disk however theres not a fix option, i'll be doing manufacturer default restore at some point probably if no solution is found (failing that a format and reinstall maybe?) however im hoping someone online can shed some light on the whole situation, something i've missed maybe. The biggest issue is it being so difficult to try to fix with it taking such a long time to open anything. This is a new custom built pc (from a website) and im assuming the components themselves are ok, (cpu or hdd broken and it wouldn't start, same with ram but im assuming a warning would of shown, and unless he's lost 7gb in one go i doubt it would show much performance decrease...) the system seems cool enough from general feeling around it, cold air being sucked in and blown out (obviously while idle but even so).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been noticing my system is very slowly lately. I'm also constantly getting "not responding" messages. So far I have tried sfc /scannow, and chkdsk /r . Both came back fine. Suspecting Hard drive problem I downloaded and ran Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (it's a WD drive). That too came back with a clean report. I have run the usual maintenance duties like defrag but still no good. Also checked for malware with Spybot.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just built a "Dream Machine" for the purpose of graphic design, and other intensive activities (though not gaming, as this is a work PC!).I won't go into all of the specifications, however the PC does use a Gigabyte X79-UP4 motherboard, and I have 16 Gigs of Patriot Viper Extreme (PC 17000) memory installed. Initial FSB / RAM results are shown below:I also installed 2 x Samsung 830 SSDs in RAID 0!The hard drive transfer rates are truly out of this world -The read speed is close to 1 Gbps...almost made it!!!Now that I have built an impressive PC I am having trouble making it behave, it is a bit like a wild stallion, full of raw power, but quite frankly untamed!Windows 7 (x64) is constantly crashing, it crashes about every 20 minutes, and it doesn't seem to matter whether the PC is doing work or not.
I have setup the RAM to use an Xtreme Memory Profile, which runs at 2133 MHz, which is not an issue for my RAM (as this is the RAMs) natural running speed.*** At any rate I plan to test the RAM for a good 48 hours using MemTest to see if there are any issues on this front ***I am thinking that there may be a conflict between the motherboards RAID chipset and the SSDs, in so far as perhaps the motherboard can't keep up with the SSDs.
I've upgraded my PC and reinstalled the OS; spec shown below. The only difference is that now, my OS is on an SSD drive (OCZ Petrol).However, I note that my memory usage is constantly increasing; even with only background apps running, I was up to 7GB. When I check Task Manager, I see that the "System" process's "Handles" count is constantly increasing. As I speak, it's almost at 1,000,000; last night I saw it get up to 4,000,000.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor about a month or so I've been getting various BSOD messages. I have ran "chkdsk" and it came back with everything being okay. I've ran "SFC SCANNOW" everything came back fine. I waned to run a few more tests (like the ones testing RAM, but with my computer not really turning on for that long now it seems like it might be too hard to do) From what I've noticed in the dump files I think "USBPORT.sys" and "usbohci.sys" are the main problems, but I could be wrong. I'm not really sure what to do now. It's got to the point where it takes a lot of attempts to just log into my computer and even then it doesn't stay on for long (no more than an hour now). I kind of gave up on everything and decided that installing debian as another OS is the next option. I reset my computer back to factory settings but no luck, I'm still getting the error!For the record I've had this computer for just over a year now, and everything seemed to be fine until recently and now it just seems to keep going downhill. I also can't give you the more recent dump files because my computer would end up BSODing half way though getting them all together, but I do have some recentish ones and it seems to be the same problems happening. However earlier today I got the 3B error which I haven't really got much before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHave had a home built PC now for a bout a year, i have my OS running from dual SSDs in a RAID configuration (for fast access of databases), recently i noticed my machine began crashing a few times more than i had been used to, but recently it has really started to increase in frequency. When i turn the power off to my machine and reboot, what often happens is the system freezes again just before i reach the password login screen (freezes at the screen with the windows logo). View 1 Replies View RelatedOk so here's a little backstory before I jump into my problem. I've got 2 harddrives installed; a SSD and a regular HDD. The SSD is labeled C: since it has Windows and other core programs while the HDD is labeled B:. The solid state is almost full while the regular one still has over a terabyte of space left to fill up. Normally, I have no problem installing new programs or games to the HDD till now.When I went to install my new game on B: it kept giving me invalid directory errors. So I went to the game's forums and discovered that the reason that issue was happening was because the game recognized drive letters A and B as floppy drives as opposed to hard drive letters. Further investigation revealed that apparently this little bit of design is hardcoded into the game and there really isn't any work around except changing the drive letter. So I looked up how to do so and made the change.....then the problems started.After changing the drive letter from B: to Z: I kept getting 'path does not exist' error message with features and hardware connected to Windows on C:.
For example, my DVD-ROM drive is labeled D: and everytime I tried to install the game after the drive letter change I got 'D:\, path does not exist. make sure the path is correct and try again' error. Another example, when trying to go to Device Manager to start a fix I couldn't because of 'explorer.exe, path does not exist' error. Basically, every step I tried where anything was connected to C: or D: I got the 'path does not exist' error. At this point I've done a system restore to before the drive letter changed and I'm running as I was before trying to install the game.My question is, how do I change the driver letter of my HDD without getting all the 'path does not exist' errors? If that's not possible, how do I fix the 'path does not exist errors' when the path starts with C: or D:? Is it done the same way I would with a program through the properties tab in the target path section and start in section? Or is there something more invasive I need to do when the path issue starts with C: and D:
My Windows 7 x64 desktop box developed a problem this morning with the ACLS file that Windows diagnostics could not fix. After several attempts, I decided to do a non-destructive re-set via the recovery management software included with the box (eMachines 1331, which came with no disks, only recovery partition).
The process seemed to go smoothly, but the Restore Progress screen has been sitting at 'Please wait a moment...' for well over an hour now and I'm puzzled. Shouldn't there be some sort of progress bar indicating how long remaining in the process, or is it meant to just sit on the 'Please wait a moment...' with the trailing dots cycling from 1 to 5 dots as it is doing?
The drive is 683 gigs usable, with about 50% in use for files and programs.
yesterday I was enjoying a match of league of legends on my computer and it completely froze up on me. I had no option but to give it the hard shutoff, so I held down the power button. Upon starting my computer back up, I was brought into system repair. It tried to repair and then said it could not be repaired, and so I restarted it. It then said it went into repairing once again and said it may take up to an hour. A minute later it said the errors were fixed, and restarted the system for me. It then continued to do that and has been doing that every time I restart it.I tried logging in to safe mode but it just brought me into system repair.I tried to restore to an earlier point but the restore failed.I tried using a Windows 7 Reinstall disk and had odd results. The first time it said a file was missing during the expanding files. The Second time it got to completing install and then said the disk was missing files to complete and to contact the disk manufacturer. I'm currently running it one more time to see if I can get it to work.All I have plugged in is the mouse, the keyboard, and the monitor.

Now, as I titried to turn it on today, it wen straight to system repair. I have used the system restore three times already and it says succesful, but it keeps on foing the same thing over and over again.i have run a few tests and its says everything is fine.
It would get about 3/4 of the way through the 2nd part of chkdsk where it's checking the indexes and then the screen would go dark, the system was still running, but I couldn't see or do anything. I posted in here and someone answered with a hotfix from microsoft. I never could get that hotfix to run and had the problem for maybe 3 or 4 weeks, then all of a sudden the problems went away.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with a friends computer... his computer was becoming unresponsive with up to an hour start up times before he was able to use it. We tried to run anti-virus software but wouldn't complete any scans.
We decided to go ahead and save all the files he needed and do a complete system recovery f11 (format hard drives back to factory settings) when started it takes about an hour or two and hangs up at 9% and will go no further. Left it overnight to no avail.
I got a new computer on friday and have set it up today. I installed my windows 7 home premium 64bit and it downloaded,i then went on to put in my xfx AMD graphics card software disk and the download stopped half way through so i started it again and it got right to the last step where it has to re-start the computer. When it started up again insted of loading windows homepage it loaded the system repair screen, it searched and searched but said it had found no problem, so i clicked on the recovery tool restart option that then re-started the computer and the process started again and went straight back onto the system repair screen again. Is there anything i can do to stop it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I popped the top off my desktop, removed my wireless card and was checking to see if the card would fit in a PCI slot (it's a PCI-E and it does not). I then re installed it and started my computer up. I was prompted with a hard drive option (a Y/N option) of which I chose N. I don't know exactly what it was asking but I am trying to get it to re prompt the menu.This lead to me getting stuck at the Loading Operating System screen. I was able to boot to windows by manually booting via F12 to my 128gb SSD. This successfully booted to Windows. I noticed that the interface was a little buggy (The date was 3 years off and not all the icons were appearing). I re booted, was prompted with the same Y/N, Chose Y, and was still stuck at the Loading Operating System.I can boot manually to Windows using F12 but something feels wrong due to the date, ect.Is this a MOBO failure? The NIC Port of the MOBO recently died on me so I don't know if the MOBO itself is dying on me. The computer is less than a year old and was built by me.

After cleaning off 122 malware items, I restarted the laptop for it to take affect. After entering her password, it's stuck on the welcome screen. Even my dad, who's been in IT for 30 years, can't help me. I've done a forced shut down, but that didn't work and I can't bring up the task manager.

I am using the proprietary restore software to (try) to reload the OS back to factory condition. I have tried several times to fix it, each time with no success. I have already written zeros to every sector of the HDD, so I'm trying to start from scratch. The restore disk/process takes place over three disks I had to create as soon as I got the laptop. The first disk went through fine, and now the second disk is in, with the percentage stuck up at 24%. It got there fairly quickly, but it's been stuck like this for at least an hour now. I'm tempted to wipe the disk again, but I'm hesitating because the HDD light is on and I can hear the DVD drive doing something, though I'm not sure what.
The loading bar/progress bar isn't budging, but the green background of it is changing color (like it does when something is going on.) It is sending me no error messages, and I'm just wondering if I should let it keep going or do it some other way. When I insert the first disk, there are two options to boot from, either the "VAIO care rescue," which is what I'm doing now (I selected the restore option in its menu) or you can choose "Windows 7 install" or something along those lines, I tried that but there didn't appear to be any option to actually install under there, since it didn't detect any "images" on any drives. Regardless, I need to get this thing up and running.

The system restore was completed (I only restored it to a few days earlier) but when my computer restarted it never allowed me to log on and is stuck on the welcome screen with the little circle thing just turning... I am wondering how long it should take after a system restore for my computer to get to the log in screen. It has been about 8 hours now on the welcome screen. I am started to get a little worried and wondering if I should manually restart my computer by holding down the power button, or will that ruin the system restore or somehow damage my computer?

Anyways so i got sick of it and reinstalled windows 7 64 bit, now my computer gets stuck at loading operating system. Thought it was SSD so took it out and put in a 500gp wd hard drive (I know it works fine, becuase had it run on company server all week before i used it) so then i installed it on their and still was stuck so then i took out my other 500gb wd hard drive where i store all my files, just so i could make sure that my OS can only install on one item and not be corrupted by any other drives. So now the problem still presit and i have tried resetting my bios by taking out battery for 10 min, still no results, so then i ran startup repair (Had no hope) and it still didnt work. Need help and bellow I will post all my hardware, by the way my computer is a custom build and has been working fine for 2-3 months. Also I do overclock, but i doubt that had anything to do with it, because it started to lag weeks after i started overclocking. [code]

I then used msconfig to boot in safe mode with the minimal option selected. When the computer reboots I get to the screen to type in my password for 5 seconds an the computer reboots itself.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLast night I closed my laptop without shutting it down. I woke up this morning and turned it on and it went to the system repair screen and ran through that. It says there are problems but they are not automatically repairable. I then tried to do the system restore to an earlier point in time and had one option for a couple days ago. I ran through that but it says there is an error and when I expand to see the error one of the things listed is no OS installed. I have windows 7 64bit. Why it would say I don't have an OS installed but it is running through the system start up repair as well as listing a date that I could restore it back to. I have not tried installing the hard drive into a new computer yet.

For a split second i can see windows 7 loading but then it automatically went to the startup repair , after many many reboots i opened the command prompt in windows startup repair and tried fixing the master reboot.Now it gets stuck at loading operating system.Even when i try to boot from the windows 7 CD and Truecrypt rescue disk it still gets stuck at loading operating system.The whole harddrive was encrypted with truecrypt and it use to go to truecrypt bootloader after loading the operating system but it doesn't do that anymore.

Ok, so earlier today i decided that i needed to restore my laptop to factory default. As you can see from the title, i use an acer laptop which means i used the acer Erecovery software. All went well at first, although it took a stangely long time at a screen which said "setup is starting." The problem now is, I am now stuck on the acer 'software installation screen!' It is stuck at 41/48 where it is trying to install clear.fi v1.0. I think i heard the sound of an error earlier which worries me as i dont want to force restart my laptop as it clearly says not to do that and doing this caused my hard-drive to break last time
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated my computer last night with this update [KB2744842]. This morning I tried to open windows 7, but it gets stuck in the opening animation. I went into safe mode and try to do system restore, but all the restore points disappeared.... Finally, I tried "Advanced startup options" and chose Last Known Good Configuration (advanced). With this I was finally be able to boot into Windows 7 64-bit, but now my internet would not work either Ethernet or wifi.
I have tried:

I own an Asus K61IC laptop (Pentium dual-core processor 2.7 Ghz) which runs Windows 7 Home Premium (pre-installed). A few days ago it started to get stuck during some startups at the welcome screen (preceded by a small hang time between you click the user and the password box comes up). Today the problem became serious after it got stuck again at the first boot-up, and I had to turn it off from the on switch. Finally it successfully start from the second time and when it did I searched in the event logs and found 2 errors which happened during the first boot-up: -Zone alarm could not start because it timed out (I'm not too worried because the second startup showed a similar error with spybot) -The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly. (I copy/paste this from the event log, if you need the hole thing ask for it) I should mention the computer runs avira free and that I checked using the Asus Live Update that the BIOS is up to date.
