I wasnt thinking and deleted the system reserve partition when formating to windows 7. Now I cannot boot at all. It is an asus laptop. It is stuck on the Asus screen and nothing happens. I cannot even go into the bios, nor can it read the harddrive or dvd drive or usb.

View 9 Replies View Relatedafter converting my internal drive to a dynamic disk, why can't it boot another os? i was interested in spanning volumes, and obviously in terms of optimized virtual raid the real issue is putting the windows partition on a raid volume, but simply put why can't i install a second operating system after i've converted a disc to a dynamic disc. is there anyway to forego that trouble? in short, i want to install linux side by side with windows on seperated partitions, striped mirrored or otherwise but not having a raid controller, vraid is the only hope i have and windows dynamic disc is telling me that i can't boot other os's except the currently booted system if i convert the discs. in fact after converting the drive initially, i couldn't even reformat and reinstall windows with the 7 disc. but in my experience, it's saying windows will no longer perform these functions but other discs and environments may not even recognize the windows os change so that the possibilities aren't closed to anything but the windows operating system.
secondly, if i installed something like lilo or grub, without linux let's say, could i delete the system reserved partition? i believe i've deleted it in the passed and not had boot issues or other noticeable trouble with windows, but i'm unsure what i had or would be doing in terms of long term os stability. i saved the reserved partition of a former install by assigned it a drive letter, opening it and saving the contents for learning purposes.
I installed Windows 7 home premium fresh on my brand new WD Cav Blk HDD. During the installation, I created a "new" partition called system reserve which is 100MB.Once my system was set up and Win 7 running, I checked under My computer and noticed that there is no system reserve there. View 3 Replies View RelatedHere is what happened to me, I had windows 7 installed on a SATA HDD. I bought an SSD and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on the SSD. then I took out the SATA harddrive which I learned it contained the system parition. Now the new windows doesnt boot.
If I open diskpart and do a LIST VOL I only get one which is the SSD and inside I only have one partition with the windows files.
After a few comamnd I was able to see the installation when I start the recovery console. but when boot up. as soon as the little cicles for the windows logo comes up it freezes and reboots.
I tried making the volume parition active, but from what I have read, looks like I need to create a system parition. Is that possible. or do I have to reinstall from scrtach. (the old SATA drive is formated so no going back) Its just so close, i see my data intact on the drive lol but cant get windows to boot.
I was trying to get a dual boot setup of Windows 7 and Ubuntu where I had 1 partition for Windows 7, another for Ubuntu, and a third neutral partition accessible from either OS where I would house all of my data. The problem is, my computer already had 3 partitions set up: Windows 7, the system boot partition, and one called PQService. Because I could not find a tutorial to delete pqservice, I decided to delete my system partition, even though this seemed a little more risky (apparently it was lol.) I used this tutorial: TeraByte Unlimited Knowledge Base to copy the boot files to the windows partition and delete it. I then booted into a Live CD of Ubuntu, and used Gparted to move my Windows 7 partition in order to get rid of the 100MB of unallocated hard drive space. I then attempted to restart my computer into Windows and i got an error saying that windows could not boot because of some recent hardware changes. Is there anyway I could get back into windows without reinstalling it? Do I need to figure out some way to restore my System partition? Is there someway I could get windows to boot without doing either of those?

For a split second i can see windows 7 loading but then it automatically went to the startup repair , after many many reboots i opened the command prompt in windows startup repair and tried fixing the master reboot.Now it gets stuck at loading operating system.Even when i try to boot from the windows 7 CD and Truecrypt rescue disk it still gets stuck at loading operating system.The whole harddrive was encrypted with truecrypt and it use to go to truecrypt bootloader after loading the operating system but it doesn't do that anymore.

Through a series of shenanigans involving experiments with mirroring on Windows 7 64 bit using Disk Management, and then subsequently removing the mirror after having recurring errors/problems with the synching, My 100MB System Reserve partition has ended up on a separate partition than my system image. For instance: Disk 1 System C: Healthy (Boot, page...) Disk 0 Healthy (System Reserved...).
In addition, the System Reserved partition has been assigned a drive letter "G:" or "E:" and is now visible in explorer and it won't allow me to remove it and supress from explorer view.
I'd like to
1) move/create the System Reserve partition to Disk 1 (with System C: drive)
2) remove the System Reserve partition from Disk 0 to free it all up as a data drive
Do I use command below to create a System Reserve on Disk 1? bcdboot C:Windows How do I then delete the System Reserve partition on Disk 0. Also a byproduct of all of this, when I reboot now, I have a "Windows 7" option and a "Windows 7 Secondary Plex" option. The "Windows 7" option no longer boots (it's stops while the logo panes are flying in circles to form the logo and goes into a fix loop that never fixes it). I have a feeling it's looking for the old mirrored hardware configuration or something. However, "Window 7 Secondary Plex" option does boot just fine. Do I use MSCONFIG to remove the "Windows 7" boot entry so I don't get this annoying option at boot?
I wanted to install a fresh installation of windows 7 on my computer so I decided to load up my boot disc.
1. I deleted my partitions until I had a maximum of 233gb of free space.
2. I created a new partition from the free space. Windows setup suggested to make a primary partition of 100 mb.
3. System created two new partitions. One is primary partition (233 gb), the other is the system partition (100 mb)
4. Proceeded to install windows on the new partition created.
5. Copying windows files went from 0% to 100% instantly
6. Stuck at Expanding windows files at 0%.
7. Restarted my computer to boot up windows to see what's wrong.
8. Windows boot manager is missing, only thing I can do is reinstall windows but I can't
9. Can't do a startup repair cause it fails.
10. Did a cmd command for bootrec.exe /FixMbr and bootrec.exe /Fixboot and both operations are successful. However, still can't load up windows desktop.
Problem: I deleted my partitions and created new ones but I can't install windows onto the partition because the screen is stuck at expanding windows files at 0%. I got an error: 0x80070017. Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. I also can't load into windows desktop because bootmanager is missing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidently deleted my system reserved partition I only have one system installed on my pc, so no dual boot is needed or anything, I think it created a seperate system partition because of a windows.old folder, which has already been deleted now, because it took too much space. So now when I start up my pc i get the error that my bootmgr is missing. I tried repairing it by inserting the windows 7 dvd and using the repair, but when I click on windows 7 and i try to repair it it says it's the wrong version of windows. My language settings are set correctly so that's not the problem. I then tried to do it by pressing shift + f10 to get into the command line and using the following commands: Bootrec.exe /FixMbr Bootrec.exe /FixBoot Bootrec.exe /ScanOs Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd however the scanos and rebuildbcd can't find any windows installation. If i put in my windows 7 dvd and i startup my pc, it works fine, because it then uses the bootmgr from the Windows 7 dvd. So I thought, let's just copy the bootmgr.exe to my windows. But this didn't work either.

I had windows 7 installed on it twice, and my brother decided he "didnt need one of them" so he deleted the original install.He literally deleted all the original system files and apparently the drivers for the hardware as well. My disc drive no longer works. When I try to load windows 7 from a USB stick, it will go through the entire process, and then it will restart and say it doesn't work. View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided a week ago to install Ubuntu 11.04 alongside my Windows 7, which as you know, created a new parition. As you also know, Ubuntu likes to use it's own boot manager. Well, I decided that I was going to download and install the Windows 8 Build 7955 (as I found on Windows 8 Forums) onto the partition that was occupied by Ubuntu.. so, I downloaded the image and then, in my disk management, deleted the entire parition that Ubuntu was installed on. I went to restart my computer to finish an AntiVirus update shortly thereafter, and got a message saying something along the lines of "Grub error; unknown filesystem." I attempted a repair with my disc and nothing worked.Right now, I am installing Windows 7 on the new parition in the hopes that I can get it working again, just to get at my files on the main parition. If not, I do have a SATA-to-USB adapter that I can use to manually extract the files onto another computer, and then just wide the drive entirely, but I'm really hoping I don't have to do that, as it would be SUCH a nuisance if I had to re-do EVERYTHING on my laptop. So, what I'm asking is, if the fresh install on the new partition doesn't work, is there any way to restore the original boot manager, or am I kinda dead in the water?
