I have had a problem for months now, that sometimes data wouldn't copy or be deleted if they had anything to do with installing before. For example, if a program autoupdates itself and downloads his new .exe, then it might be unable to delete the old one, and the update failed.
This has become more of a problem recently, so through some research I found this solution: Originally Posted by Exhorder I probably found the 'real' fix for the problem.
Go to services and look for Application Experience Service (AeLookupSvc) - (Anwendungserfahrung in german), set the start type to manual. Then you are able to install from the usual executable (*.msi)
Deactivating that service can cause all sorts of problems, with alot of programs. It seems to lock up some .exe files after the program is already closed so it cannot be deleted or moved.
Try the following example:
Download TCPView, start it, close and then try to move the folder to another directory. It won't work unless the App..Experience Service is on manual because the exe file is still locked up for a while. ...where I am positive that it will work. (read it elsewhere too + alot of positive replies from people who described the exact same symptoms)
My problem is now, that this service is nowhere to be found on my computer. It might have been deleted by some virus-scan months ago (so no recovery points) when the problems suddenly arised.
I tried to find ways to manually get back a service, but wasn't that lucky. ..So what could I do?

My computer runs Windows 7 Home Premium.I have been going through my Library directories, (in particular my Document directory), doing some housekeeping. You know the procedure, deleting old files which are no longer relevant and deleting stuff that I no longer want and stuff that somehow I have repeatedly located in different directories, getting everything rationalised and organised. The sort of files that I am deleting are Word and Excel files, .pdf Adobe files, downloaded program files that I scan prior to installing, zip files and folders and folders containing files - nothing out of the ordinary really!A couple of days later I notice those damned files that I know I deleted, (and I made sure that the Recycle Bin was cleared out too), have all somehow been reinstated to exactly where I deleted them from.I do perform a backup to an external hard drive once a week. The drive is a Seagate and I am using the Seagate backup software, but this shouldn't be causing this - should it? I'm only backing up, I'm not asking for it to restore anything.

i was trying to reformat my pc last night (windows 7 to windows 7, just doing a clean reformat).now, i have 3 partitions in my hdd. system reserve, OS partition and my personal partition. i decided to delete my OS partition, then proceeded to delete my system reserve (it allowed me to, don't know why). I then created a new partition. My pc now has only 2 partitions. When I try to install to my new OS partition, it says that "Setup was unable to create a new system partition blah blah" The usual msg. I tried doing the Active thingy on the diskpart but I still can't install my Windows 7

I was trying to get a dual boot setup of Windows 7 and Ubuntu where I had 1 partition for Windows 7, another for Ubuntu, and a third neutral partition accessible from either OS where I would house all of my data. The problem is, my computer already had 3 partitions set up: Windows 7, the system boot partition, and one called PQService. Because I could not find a tutorial to delete pqservice, I decided to delete my system partition, even though this seemed a little more risky (apparently it was lol.) I used this tutorial: TeraByte Unlimited Knowledge Base to copy the boot files to the windows partition and delete it. I then booted into a Live CD of Ubuntu, and used Gparted to move my Windows 7 partition in order to get rid of the 100MB of unallocated hard drive space. I then attempted to restart my computer into Windows and i got an error saying that windows could not boot because of some recent hardware changes. Is there anyway I could get back into windows without reinstalling it? Do I need to figure out some way to restore my System partition? Is there someway I could get windows to boot without doing either of those?

I originally came to this idea after wondering "Could I install windows on a wireless external hard drive?"But quickly realized that a wireless hard drive probably would not be detected during bios, and needs windows to run.I'm wondering though, if the environment variables of windows could be modified, so that when you run software that uses these variables to store temp data etc, it would be sent to an identical network drive, instead of the directory windows is actually installed on.Can this be achieved with some changes to the registry? And would the changes cause any problems with windows itself?Basically I want to trick windows into thinking that the entire "documents and settings" folder, is on the wireless drive. Not C: (windows installed drive).

I am Ranko, from Europe ( Serbia, but in the eyes of world not so desired country so I do not mention it... but great food , great parties and the most beautiful girls should compensate )Ok. What I did. During Win 7 installation on my new Lenovo G780 ( 500gb HDD ) , I have deleted system ( 0 ) partition firstWin 7 offered/created 30gb system, 30gb primary, 440gb primary 2 ( unallocated ) and one Lenovo OEM partition 1mb.As my friend said , always first go from behind but I didint. Now I am missing 30gb of space, and can not retrieve it. So if I do installation from the beginning i just have 470 GB of space to alocate to partitions ( for example 100mb system , 100gb Primary & 369gb Primary 2 )So 30GB seems lost. I have installed win 7 and run diskmgmt.msc and only 1 disk with 470gb is shown.I tried linux with that partition software and the same... it shows just 470gb of space...30GB are missing/lost/not existing.Once again... so sorry guys for posting this issue since maybe it is something that is common, but I really do not want to give up. It is not up to 30GB , it is about the principle , I have to retrieve it!

Good Evening Windows 7 64 bit Internet Explorer 9 Today I done my firstsystem back up I used the image back up because it says it copies everything insystem including program and drivers. My C drive is 500 GB. I am backing up to aninternal hard drive. I had 170 GB to be copied but when it finished it onlyshows to be 43 GB. On the hard drive also when I put the backup DVD disk in therom and go to properties it shows ZERO on the disk. You can look at the backside of the disk and tell something has been copied to it can someone explainto me where I went wrong. I am using an internal 1 TB hard drive to back up to.If the 43GB back up is correct how you can verify that it has copied all 170GB. According to Windows help section you need a hard drive of at least thesize of your original C drive.

Having Windows 7 for a month now, I notice the prompt to "backup" my system every week. I began the process when I got the first prompt a couple of weeks ago and did the backup accordingly, but I'm wondering how urgent it is to do this every week? I use my PC for browsing and for my home budget (MS Excel which I back up to disc each week) but for little else.

I have a windows 7 desktop and I was gone for two days, I left my com at my parents house so my father could look for a job. When i get back i see him watching kung-fu movies. So now i have viruses on my com. I ty to get the deleted and do a system restore. The next day my computer shuts itself down. I wait and start it up and it goes to a black screen with a little line at the top left corner that keeps blinkingI take it to Fry's and the tech says the the virus deleted the OS (windows7). I tell them that I will take it home to work on it. So I make a recovery cd on my sister's labtop. My question is, from what i have written. Is this truly a operating system totaal wipe-out or something else

For some reason i have to change my partition table from MBR to GPT. So i made a backup of my c drive using Acronis. But when i tried to restore my Windows, I got a message BOOTMGR missing press cntrl+alt+del to restart. Then i came to know that ultimate edition has a hidden partition called system reserved. Is there any way to restore my windows with same programs and drivers. Something like reinstalling windows 7 x64 ultimate and replacing everything by backup except boot files?

I noticed my restore points were being deleted for some reason and I went to the System restore settings of my computer, and being oblivious to what I was looking at I confused my recovery drive with my C: and I turned it on and gave it a gig of disk space usage. After I realized I was configuring the wrong one I went back turned it off and deleted restore points but It won't let me put the max usage back to zero it will only let me keep it at 2% (320.00MB).Is this going to cause any problems or is it fine?

Here is what happened to me, I had windows 7 installed on a SATA HDD. I bought an SSD and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on the SSD. then I took out the SATA harddrive which I learned it contained the system parition. Now the new windows doesnt boot.
If I open diskpart and do a LIST VOL I only get one which is the SSD and inside I only have one partition with the windows files.
After a few comamnd I was able to see the installation when I start the recovery console. but when boot up. as soon as the little cicles for the windows logo comes up it freezes and reboots.
I tried making the volume parition active, but from what I have read, looks like I need to create a system parition. Is that possible. or do I have to reinstall from scrtach. (the old SATA drive is formated so no going back) Its just so close, i see my data intact on the drive lol but cant get windows to boot.

Can the C:SYSTEM.SAV folder be deleted? I am unable to find out what it is & what it's used for. It seems to be something specific to HP and/or Compaq. It's about 60MB, 1% of the volume size; maybe shouldn't worry about it.

I accidently deleted my system reserved partition I only have one system installed on my pc, so no dual boot is needed or anything, I think it created a seperate system partition because of a windows.old folder, which has already been deleted now, because it took too much space. So now when I start up my pc i get the error that my bootmgr is missing. I tried repairing it by inserting the windows 7 dvd and using the repair, but when I click on windows 7 and i try to repair it it says it's the wrong version of windows. My language settings are set correctly so that's not the problem. I then tried to do it by pressing shift + f10 to get into the command line and using the following commands: Bootrec.exe /FixMbr Bootrec.exe /FixBoot Bootrec.exe /ScanOs Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd however the scanos and rebuildbcd can't find any windows installation. If i put in my windows 7 dvd and i startup my pc, it works fine, because it then uses the bootmgr from the Windows 7 dvd. So I thought, let's just copy the bootmgr.exe to my windows. But this didn't work either.

I also have the System Recovery Disk and would anybody know if I can reinstall Windows 7 with these two?

I just reinstalled Windows and I mistook my C drive for my Windows.Old file and I highlighted everything and clicked delete even after I was prompted about system files. My machine is running fine and I'm getting no warnings but I want to know what files I deleted and if there's a way to get these files back without losing everything that I reinstalled. Is there a utility to scan for any missing system files?
