My computer freezes during a virus scan, defrag, disc check, etc. I have to manually shut down. Does it even in safe mode. Windows7 64 bit. Operates perfect otherwise.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i recently added ram to my computer, this is DDR2 RAM, so i took out 2 old sticks that were 1 gig each and put in two 2 gig sticks. Therefore all 4 of my slots are full and i have 6Gigs in total. When i tried to start up my computer i pressed F1 to save the new memory amount (This amount was indeed correct), and my computer rebooted but then stopped at a disk check. I allowed it to run the disk check for about 10-15 seconds. In this short amount of time it was displaying a bunch of corrupted files and attempting to resolve them i am guessing, but suddenly my computer restarted around 5 times in a row in 5-10 second intervals then i got the error saying: 2233 - HECI error during MEBX execution. ME BIOS Extension Module halted. Update BIOS or ME Firmware if problem persists.I have only found onereference of this on uring-MEBX-execution/td-p/4490533 which seems like it was a faulty motherboard. What i did was i took out the new sticks of RAM and put in the old sticks of RAM and tried my computer again. This time I got all the way to the disk check again and this time i skipped it. Windows started up fine but with some other issues. When i started Google Chrome, it said that my internet explorer.lnk file was corrupted. Also if i tried to reinstall internet explorer, it would fail installation near the end. (by fail i mean i would get a window saying Internet Explorer could not fully install). Next i tried Microsoft excel, and it failed saying i did not have enough memory even though my computer stated i had 6 gigs but 5.7 something usable RAM. I tried word and it instantly "Stopped Working" as windows put it. So i uninstalled microsoft office to try an reinstall it but I rebooted my computer after I uninstalled it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy antivirus software prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, I was no longer able to view any of my program files nor documents. I looked up at some posts and found that I had to one by one uncheck the "hidden" tab on the folders in the system. I was able to retrieve most of the files and programs, but not all of them. I still have a few programs that appear as "empty" on the start menu (i.e. Microsoft Office programs). Any other steps I should take to be able to launch all my programs in the Start Menu?

Recently when i perform a virus scan it has started to hang up when it reached the C: / Windows / temp / tmp00002b12c folder. So because it was hanging i decided to empty the temp folder.
All items went to the C:recycle.bin, then i performed the virus scan again, this time it now hangs on the same particular folder when scanning the C: / recycle.bin
So i emptied the recycle bin and even now it still hangs on the same folder and is unable to complete the virus scan, the virus scan stops dead as soon as it reaches this point, just hangs there until i force close the anti virus software.
I have read and digested a lot of information explaining that the files do not get deleted, only the index to the file when emptying the recycle bin, but i can not seem to find a way to solve my problem, how do i get access to this file that exists on my drive to clear it to allow me to complete a virus scan??
Alright, so I am working remotely on a computer trying to remove the System Scan virus. Now I have followed all steps, and removed countless viruses from safe mode using both super-antispyware and malwarebytes. I followed all instructions given in the removal guide on this site, including using rKill and the tdsskiller. I seem to remove the virus sucessfully, but as soon as I restart in normal mode from my users account, the virus is right back. Is there a known variation of this virus that reinstalls itself? Are there any other recommendations

I bought a new laptop recently, and probably about 4 days later, it got the System Check virus. A friend helped me get rid of the virus(I think), but a lot of my stuff still seems to be hidden. Unhide.exe got back my desktop icons, and some of my Start Menu, but I'm still missing almost all of the right side of said start menu. The Control Panel, Help and Support, Search, etc etc.I have Windows 7.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy samsung series 7 has a samsung application that lets me create a disc with all my drivers. I wish i had known this before i got a virus/malware infection because the laptop didnt come with a disc on its own.
I am wondering, if i use this utility to create this disc will driver files have a chance of being damaged/corrupt?
The problem I'm having is that whenever i restart my computer or shut it down for a while and reboot my system a System disc check occurs.
It's telling me that there are no problems but this disc check keeps occurring.
Any suggestions to what I should do?
Whenever I try to do a scan either with McAfee or Windows Defender.. And even disk defrag. it freezes the computer
I hear a noise which i think is from the hard drive.. it sound like.. Tick, tick, tick, tick.
And when it does that I am not able to open any programs and the scan stops. But i am able to move the mouse and open the start menu.
Any Ideas?

I'm not sure if it's something we did, if the virus messed something up, or if it's some unrelated issue. It's not the memory since I tested it last night and there weren't any errors.It can happen at any time. I haven't been playing any games and the only game I ever do play on this laptop is minecraft. I do play some Hulu and Netflix videos, but these crashes and lockups don't only occur when I'm watching a video. View 12 Replies View RelatedIt is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit application. June 2012 it crashed. Since I am a teacher, I needed my laptop to recover quickly. The system would not recognize my recovery disks so I had to order disks from HP. The disks arrived but when I began to rebuild the tablet I killed the process at 12 hours because it seemed ridiculously long. ( My prior career I was a system project manager...so I am no strager to computers and software installations.) My quick solution was installing Windows 7 Home premium and then downloading the custom installtions for my HP tablet off the HP site. This was required to finish the school year. July 2012 I began attempting to rebuild my laptop correctly. I found, through HP forums, their installtions take 16 hours before you get to the windows setup screens. In the midst of this process my battery also seems to have completely died.I have tested that it is the battery: AC Power glows steady white when battery is removed and system boots.
Put the battery back in and the light blinks orange the whole time. Battery test shows it cannot recognize a battery. So....when I tried to install the first time with battery still in, 16 hours later HP recovey processed, and Windows setup began. It made it through preparing software installation, installing software, customizing software, and stopped at "Checking AC Power." The second time.....I tried to install I removed the dead battery.This allowed the power led to stop blinking orange and be steady white glow. For this test the system made it through preparing, and installing, but hung at customizing software.Third try now....battery back in hangs again at Checking AC Power. It has been here for 8 hours. The HP site also indicates that the WIFI radio needs to be on for installation. Mine is and glows white.
Any remedies for how to complete the installation, through checking ac power where it is hanging, and then initate and complete the installtion verification would be great! it's been weeks and I've tried everything I could: system restore, disk check, disc fragmentor, safemode scanning, etc My problem is that for some reason, all of my scans (superantispyware, malwarebytes and avast), all start to freeze during full system scans. Within minutes of logging onto my computer, a message keeps popping up that there is a critical error and that the computer will restart within one minute. I have tried to do anything I possibly can to get rid of this issue! It does the same thing while booting up in safemode as well. I also tried to restore my computer to a previous date before this occurred, and it still keeps happening. I figured i'd try to restore it to factory settings also, but it does not give me the option while booting up (f11), or on my control panel. I also tried using the TDSSkiller but my computer reboots before the scanning/fixing finishes.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've gotten this in the last month or two, and it's always happened while the computer was in a Sleep state. When it's occurred I have used the power button on the CPU to shut down. Then I wait awhile and turn it back on and it's fine again. This computer is 4 months old, an HP purchased direct from HP.

Note also that I had Norton installed up until a few weeks ago. I have been having Outlook email problems that I thought might be related to Norton, and since I hate Norton anyway I uninstalled it (using their Removal Tool) and installed Webroot SecureAnywhere instead. It is active and updated.

It created add-on's and made my computer do things that were not desirable. I uninstalled it but found it to be still lingering on my computer in the add-on sections of browsers. Ever since I downloaded the program and got the "Babylon Search" with it I have found that my computer is running really slow. It also shows up in Internet Explorer when I click to open a new tab. View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my computer ( which is working fine ) and some of my old computer parts would now belong to my brother. When assembling my brothers computer I didn't remove the cpu or RAM once. The only things that were switched from my computer to his were graphics card, PSU, HDD and CD-DVD Driver.Now when starting my brothers computer, it will recognize the cpu and the amount of ram, but after that it stops. It still is answering because if I press DEL or f11, I will acess either bios or boot menu. After that it tells me that the HDD hasn't been recognized. Another weird thing is that it only shows the bios startup screen if the CD-DVD reader is connected, otherwise the computer will start but it will remain full black screen.
