It had no antivirus and had never run windows update even though its always online. I fully updated windows and installed MS security essentials but blue screens happen after a few minutes of scanning. Uninstalled and tried Microsoft safety scanner msert download but this virus check also crashed the system with a blue screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy antivirus software prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, I was no longer able to view any of my program files nor documents. I looked up at some posts and found that I had to one by one uncheck the "hidden" tab on the folders in the system. I was able to retrieve most of the files and programs, but not all of them. I still have a few programs that appear as "empty" on the start menu (i.e. Microsoft Office programs). Any other steps I should take to be able to launch all my programs in the Start Menu?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows 7 professional 32bit, Virgin broadband so i have their free virus and spyware program, virgin media security (old PCGuard) .
Recently when i perform a virus scan it has started to hang up when it reached the C: / Windows / temp / tmp00002b12c folder. So because it was hanging i decided to empty the temp folder.
All items went to the C:recycle.bin, then i performed the virus scan again, this time it now hangs on the same particular folder when scanning the C: / recycle.bin
So i emptied the recycle bin and even now it still hangs on the same folder and is unable to complete the virus scan, the virus scan stops dead as soon as it reaches this point, just hangs there until i force close the anti virus software.
I have read and digested a lot of information explaining that the files do not get deleted, only the index to the file when emptying the recycle bin, but i can not seem to find a way to solve my problem, how do i get access to this file that exists on my drive to clear it to allow me to complete a virus scan??
I'm running win 7 x64 just recently updated to IE 9 and by the way I'm also running MS scurity essecitals, it was not doing this when I had IE 8. My question is I don't want my files I dl to be scanned. I went into MSE realtime protection setting and unticked scan all dl's but it's still doing it. How do I disable it ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has suddenly seized up and I think it might be to do with a security conflict - Norton security scan appears to now be on my laptop through, I think, some vigorous pop-ups which must have got past me. I've just installed - reinstalled - AVG 2013 (no idea why I lost it in the first place) so feel reasonably protected and want to try to get rid of Norton Security Scan to see if that unblocks the slowness. But it won't uninstall, claiming always to be running.

For sometime now I've been attempting to fix a laptop that I have that was used by my sister. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ61 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I believe the computer has a virus but cannot actually find out for sure if it does or not. I have ran many virus scans with multiple virus protections and still I'm getting blue screens of death, major jamming, as well as occasional start up fails. The computer jams up so badly that I can't use it for even simple tasks. If I try to up the start menu or any folders the computer jams up for about a minute before it responds. If I try to get on the web nothing at all will load no matter what web browser I'm using. The computer will also freeze up completely at random times and the only way to get it to respond is to restart it.

I'm not sure if it's something we did, if the virus messed something up, or if it's some unrelated issue. I've been trying to back up my laptop for the past few weeks. After a few minutes of starting my back up, my system would BSOD.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 6 months
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) I have never reinstalled the OS.
I've tried updating drivers and such. My next step is a full reinstall.After the initial crash it seems to randomly BSOD unless I attempt to run windows update which nearly always kills it.

My laptop will have a BSOD when I have several tabs open in Firefox. Also if the computer is left running overnight, every morning I awake to a non-functional computer. The screen never turns on and nothing is happening. The HDD indicator light is constantly on when this happens. Attached is the past 5 dump reports.

I have been experiencing lots of BSODs lately, all at random and all showing different reasons.At first, I thought that I had a memory problem - so, I removed one of the RAM modules and the laptop worked OK for a few days. However, today the BSODs started again.I ran Driver Verifier for a few hours and started getting BSOD after BSOD.I checked the minidump and (from what I saw), the reason is probably netbt.sys:

Before running Driver Verifier, I was getting a BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19 BSODs.I'm running Windows Home Premium x64 on a Toshiba Qosmio X500 laptop. The OS is OEM.I have also attached the jcgriff + perfmon reports and the minidump txt export (just in case).
I recently installed Firefox and a file downloading addin for Firefox. Everything was fine until I needed to restart my computer. Once I restarted everything seemed to load and I got to my desktop then immediately I got the blue screen message. I could only get the following part of the error message before the screen went away: 0X0000008E I can restart in safe mode but have been unable to fix the problem. I have uploaded the info from the SF Diagnostic Tool.
