I can ping websites and get a reply, but Internet Explorer just hangs and I get Not Responding in Task Manager. I have ran Malwarebytes, AVG, and Microsoft Security Essentials. None of these show any viruses. I tried installing Microsoft Fix It, but it would not load. I get the same results if I boot in Safe Mode with Networking.

I have the OEM product key on the back but no boot CD's for the acer windows 7 home premium laptop.
How can I obtain a copy of windows 7 home premium and then enter my product key?
Also- I can run fine in safe mode. is there any way i can create a bootable disc from there?

Our PC internet quit working a few days ago. Our wireless laptop and Ipods work. After some (hours) of playing, I noticed our homepage was set to something Babylon. So realized we had some virus issues after research. I have run SpyBot S&D, SAS and Malwarebytes- all came up with some various serious threats. CouponBar, Babylon, I want it! etc. These programs seemed to have removed all the problems, but I still do not have access. My LAN can find my network, but says "no internet access" the wireless does not connect either on this PC.
My computer knowledge is minimal but after comparing various ipconfig screens, it seems to have something to do with the IP addresses. I read that 169.254...is not good. I disabled IPV6 and when obtaining IP addresses automatically didn't work- I typed in the ones listed on the details part of the adapter. I recently removed a fake windows restore virus and now, unlike before, when I select hibernate, the laptop actually just shuts down. When I restart everything I was working is gone. Obviously something is corrupted. Is there a way to repair that? To get rid of the virus I used a combination of Webroot, a program called trojan-killer and system restore.

I restarted the computer, was welcomed by the Asus menu screen first and then when it goes to load windows, it says "loading windows files" and then goes to the automatic repair feature. It says corrupt file in problem details and proceeds to conclude that it can't fix it. In the advanced features, I have tried the startup repair with no luck, the system restore with no luck - tried all restore points listed and after many many 30 min intervals, it comes back that it cannot restore to the previous state. There are no disk images and no memory problems. Command Prompt will run (although one time it did not and simply shut down). I booted from DVD and tried repair from that with no more luck than before, however, did find it strange that when it looked for the windows installation it found one called windows and one called Microsoft Windows - same partition size, all details the same, not sure what's up with that.
I followed the info under Windows cannot start/.exe files cannot run forum up until ubunto is concerned something about the cd and usb running I can get it to make the mbr.bin file but can't get it to recognize the usb to put it on to check it out or the balance of what's next? Also, at the Automatic System repair it reads:

It doesn't identify an actual corrupt file name it says it can't determine the root of the problem.Tried to run Windows 7 upgrade from the disk but because I'm not in windows that won't work and also because I'm running SP1 and I don't have the disk for SP1.I've downloaded Unetbootin and Ubontu but don't know how to work them to get things fixed I've also tried unloading the windows update cache but still nothing because prior to this problem it was failing on all windows updates and have noticed other people comment that that was their problem - still no luck.

I used to be able to connect wirelessly from anywhere but not now. I was working on the internet one day and an error message popped up, I must have hit ok, and it rebooted me. I haven't been able to get on the internet since. I do not know what the error message was.When I go into Device Manager, under Networking, their is a yellow exclamation mark next to MS Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2. The error message is, "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)." Here are the things that I've tried to resolve this issue:1) disabled the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2) Updated Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter and Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)3) Gone into the registry and deleted the UpperFilters and LowerFilters and rebooted.The above resolutions were the only resolutions that I was able to find to try. I really need to be able to get this laptop back on the internet as my daughter starts college next week and will soon be needing it.

Next time when i restart the computer. It showed BootMgr is missing.So i could not get into Win 7.So i tried using the Dell Data Safe Local Recovery disc which i created (Unfortunately i did not realise it is not complete and i burnt only one disc). I chose the option reinstall So it asks for the supplementary disc Insert Disk 2 which i dont have.

Currently, I can only get Firefox to open. I have scanned the laptop using ESET's online scanner, which found nothing. I also scanned with MSE with the same results. But upon boot up I get a message about not being able to run a startup program because I'm not logged in as an administrator. Also, when going to DOS prompt, I can't run chkdsk /f because I don't have the level of permission required.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy daughter got a Security Shield virus on her laptop and I managed to remove it using this BC thread: [URL]. The laptop uses Windows 7. The removal seemed to work fine, although one slightly odd thing (compared to the thread's advice) was that I didn't have to change the LAN settings/Proxy server when I booted up in Safe Mode - the virus was preventing internet access but didn't appear to be doing so by the Proxy server change. So I was able to access the internet perfectly well when in Safe Mode with Networking.
I downloaded everything I needed using the laptop wirelesly and scanned/removed the 2 security shield virus files using malware bytes. Then, when I rebooted as normal in order to complete the process and update the HOSTS files, I couldn't access the internet wirelessly. The router is working fine and when I connect via ethernet cable the laptop communicates fine with the internet. It just refuses to let me connect wirelessly.
I have tried:
- Checking all firewall options in McAfee (though I guess this wouldn't enable a wired connection either if it was the problem)
- Removing and reinstalling the wireless device (via device manager)
- Deleting and resetting up the wireless profile
Just not sure what to do next....
So yesterday I was busily doing some work and watching something on ITV Player when shock crashed along with Microsoft Office 2007. From nowhere it started continuously beeping at me. It was rather high pitched and didn't sound as though it were coming from the speakers. I flipped it over and had a listen and it sounded as though it were coming from inside. I switched it off and back on again but the beeping simply started up again. Continuously beeping for maybe two minutes of so, frozen on the Dell start up logo, unable to enter either boot menu.
However after about five mins, I received the message: "Operating system not found". I tried inserting my windows 7 disk to do a clean install but no drivers were found. I shut it down and unscrewed the back, turned it on and had a listen. It sounded as though the hard drive was beeping, but I didn't think it even had a speaker, so I am assuming whatever is beeping is because of the hard drive. I took it out and reported the.laptop, same results as before but without any beeping at all and a much faster boot time.
I bought a new dell inspiron15R-2106SLV and when i am doing some changes in disk management i found error like Bootmgr is missing Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart I am unable to use my lappy as its not going into OS side..

It's installed, but no mater what, I can't run it even if I name it mbam.com, or anything of the sort.Also, my computer won't go into safe mode. I can run it normally, but when I press F8, I can pick to boot off my SARA, or my CD Drive, but piking either of those just takes me to system restore, where I wipe my hard drive which I"ll only do if it's a last resort.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a terrible time trying to get my ASUS K52 laptop to sleep and hibernate (win 7 home premium). I scoured the net looking at all kinds of things like using the commands,powercfg -a,powercfg -devicequery wake_armed,sfc -scannow,I tried to boot into safe mode and never did figure out how to actually do that. And so on and so on.I was really motivated because if I was running on battery, it would just completely drain the battery and crash hard.The display would dim and turn off as expected but it would never sleep and certainly would not hibernate.I finally figured out one problem was that my wife was logged in on my laptop. I did not think that would be a problem. Sometimes she uses my computer when I am away and then do a "Switch user" but NOT a logout.Apparently, this will stop your laptop from sleeping. Once I logged her out, then it I could sleep at the expected time. But it still would not hibernate or turn off hard disk. So I went through all the advanced settings, yet again, in my power config window, everything made sense and I followed all the recommendations for the various settings I saw online. Finally just pressed "restore defaults" and Whaddya know?! Hibernate worked at the expected time. I used the "Balanced" power plan.Now, FINALLY, my laptop works as expected and I really like the "Sleep" mode and it goes to hibernate overnight to save even more power. I don't why it was so flaky before. It seemed like I had a virus that was monkeying with my power settings but it's been working perfectly for over a two weeks now so I think it's licked.

The drive light flashes occasionally, but otherwise nothing,I formatted and partitioned the drive in another machine.
