I have suddenly received the message "missing operating system" on two occasions but don't know why it happened.
I tried turning the laptop off to no avail. I discovered the only way to continue using my laptop was to press "CTL, ALT and DELETE" about five or six times.

I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 L502X Laptop which has Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS.It was having only one drive and tried to make a partition.Without knowing the consequences i clicked the Mark Partition as Active in the Disk Management. Next time when i restart the computer. It showed BootMgr is missing. So i could not get into Win 7.So i tried using the Dell Data Safe Local Recovery disc which i created (Unfortunately i did not realise it is not complete and i burnt only one disc). I chose the option reinstall So it asks for the supplementary disc Insert Disk 2 which i dont have.

So yesterday I was busily doing some work and watching something on ITV Player when shock crashed along with Microsoft Office 2007. From nowhere it started continuously beeping at me. It was rather high pitched and didn't sound as though it were coming from the speakers. I flipped it over and had a listen and it sounded as though it were coming from inside. I switched it off and back on again but the beeping simply started up again. Continuously beeping for maybe two minutes of so, frozen on the Dell start up logo, unable to enter either boot menu.
However after about five mins, I received the message: "Operating system not found". I tried inserting my windows 7 disk to do a clean install but no drivers were found. I shut it down and unscrewed the back, turned it on and had a listen. It sounded as though the hard drive was beeping, but I didn't think it even had a speaker, so I am assuming whatever is beeping is because of the hard drive. I took it out and reported the.laptop, same results as before but without any beeping at all and a much faster boot time.

looking for ideas on how to fix this problem.
while installing 7 H.P. it gets to completing installation then freezes up after computer reboots a warning message appears stating windows 7 has failed to install and resume after reboot, and then the same warning message appears.
I tried the roll back installation option and a message flashes on and off to quickly to read.

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.
When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.
I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.
I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.
I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.
It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.
Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

I have a HP Pavilion g series laptop running 64 bit Windows 7. My daughter for some reason was having problems and decided to reinstall the OS using cd's from a friend that I was unaware of. I ordered the System Recovery DVDs, which there are 2 along with another CD that says Application and Driver Recovery DVD. I've gone thru the installation process with the system recovery dvd's and continue to get BOOTMGR is Missing message. I can boot into the Advanced Boot Options using F8 but do not see a system repair option. I tried safe mode with command prompt and it just brings me back to the 'Welcome to Recovery Manager' from the DVD. So while in safe mode I tried re-installing again using the System Recovery DVD's. I get the same BOOTMGR is Missing message.

i have bought used pc, I found two 512mb sticks of ram so I threw them in there. Then I took my 3rd hdd (which was blank at one point in time and use solely for storage). Wiped everything from it then, using my main pc, installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. After the install was complete I was able to boot 7 off the third drive on my main pc. So I removed the drive changed it from slave to CS And connected it to the throw away pc. There is only one hdd and it has 7 installed on it. But when I turn on the pc it brings me to a black screen that says Missing BOOTMGR Pres CTRL, ALT, Delete to restart. So after checking some forums it says to insert the 7 recovery disk. When I do so it will bring me to a screen that says loading windows.. It will load fully then the screen flashes off then back on and it remains stuck on a black screen for as long as I will let it run. Would it be easier if I was to do this with xp? As the old pc is not so new technology.

My computer recently began to give me bsod and would not detect external devices, i.e. external hard drives, wireless adapters, and other usb devices. The issue windows gave me as the cause was that these devices did not have digital signatures. After online research and a trip to the geek squad, I determined that all of my hardware was in perfect working order. I tried to remove and re-install my copy of windows 7 64 bit ultimate but found that my disk was, despite being unscathed, unreadable and unusable.
I found several articles about creating a bootable USB drive with an ISO of the disk. I have the ISO on my laptop and have been trying to get my USB to operate on the desktop, which due to blue screens and automatic restarts gave me no recourse but to wipe it completely. As I stand now I have partitioned the USB drive as fat32 after doing a cmd prompt cleaning and have loaded the iso on using several different programs including the official Microsoft USB creator. All but one have produced the same error saying "error loading operating system" when booting from just the USB. The only program to produce a different result was YUMI which loaded a program that launches on start up and gives me the option to use the Windows 7 ISO but then produces another error saying "Error 27: Unrecognized Command"
Have I missed something in the formatting process or does the fact that the Windows USB creator re formats the USB as NTFS before every ISO upload mean that I cannot load my copy of Windows 7 this way?
