View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my brothers laptop and the laptop is sitting at BOOTMGR is missing, I can get into BIOS. It will not see recovery disk and will not go into safe mode!!!
It is set to boot from CD Rom but does not see the recovery disc. Is there anything that I can do? As I am now stuck
My husband's comp crashed...he had Win7 Os. Recovery did not work! I tried to reintall Win7 got as far as formatting the hard drive. I then reinserted the cd to reinstall and now all I get as far as "Press any key..." I press a key and "BOOTMGR MISSING" press ctrl + alt + del to restart. Of course this doesn't work.I have reset the bios so that cd-rom is the only bootable device. It will not move from the bootmgr missing screen. The cd is a legal bootable copy, the hard drive and dvd player work I have tried them in another comp.System Configuration[CODE]

View 11 Replies View RelatedHer computer is an HP laptop it is runnung windows 7 . I have created the recovery disk( 32 bit) from online as that is what most sites said to do. After it said it was loading the windows files I clicked next. Then it said system recovery options. In the box it says (recovered) 292135 MB (d Local Disk. It is checked on use recovery tool taht can help fix problems starting windows. I click next. I get a pop up that says this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair,So then I made the 64 bit recovery disk & restarted. I was unsure if it was 64 bit or 32 bit to start.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off, why is reinstalling windows 7 such a pita? I've done it several times and it's soooooooo bad. With that aside, tonight I was attempting to reinstall 64 bit from 32 bit. I reformatted my hd using dos because advanced recovery simple does not work. After formatting and restarting I'm getting te bootmgr error. After reading countless threads with fixes nothing is helping. I CANNOT get past this error. I have the disc in, it won't go past the error. Pushing f2, f8, and f12 does not work. I can't do anything in the bios. Most of the solutions simply assume you can get PAST the error.
The next step I tried was unplugging the hd I formatted and installing to a different hd. This gives me an error of missing a device required. At this point I have no idea what to do besides maybe reformatting the hd again using another pc. Is there a recovery program I should dl to a blank cd?
i make the partition as active by going to computer managment-> disk management got this popup message, Only make a partition as active if it contains a functioning operating system. If the partition lacks an operating system. marking it active might cause your computer to stop working. Do you want to continue?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a very big problem with my reinstall of Windows 7 Pro. I have now lost the bootmgr and am not able to "see" my SSD. Ouch! I searched the forum for my error: 0x800704f and couldn't find it nor could I get to see my SSD and am therefore not able to use the tutorial to "get it back." Well, I am at a loss at this point. I was originally trying a fresh install of Windows 7 pro. But, just prior, I got an error box that the Catalyst Control Center was not working properly(or something like that). But, when after all my efforts seemed to take me further down the rabbit hole. I concluded that I must post this thread!I built it myself and know just enough to make me dangerous!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am getting the message bootmgr not found when I start my computer. So I tried using the repair disk and changed the boot sequence in the bios to boot from cd rom first. I also made a bootable usb drive and both will not work. So it connected the drive to my laptop by usb and booted into repair mode. Everything was going well. I did the first two bootrec commands and it said done. the last command I did was the bootrec /RebuildBcd command and it found two installations. I got so excited that I answered yes to both answers. This now has messed up my laptop as well.

Everything was working fine until I tried to get the hard drive to show up on the system... I tuned off my pc and now when I turn it on with ssd in side it says BOOTMGR is missing.

The odd thing is if I have the boot cd inserted it boots fine, but without it it gives this error. I have used the boot repair tools found on the boot, and tried varieing the boot order in the BIOS. Also I have manually tried to fix it using the command line on the boot disc.
As I have two hard drives I tried removing my secondary data hard drive, but then when trying to repair it using the boot disc it cannot find my windows installation. Can anyone offer any advice?

I'm very sure, especially if you've ever installed a second HDD on your computer yourself you have seen this message. BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.Basically when it says to restart it is assuring you no treatment will work, WRONG! this is one of the easiest problems ever to fix, if you have your Windows 7/Vista installation disc.First step - Boot from installation mediaSecond step - Go through everything until you find a button that says "Repair your computer"Third step - Let it run though, on the first time, it will not find a WORKING operating system, restart when it prompts and boot the disc again.Forth step - Repeat Second step, and now your OS should be listed, click on it and run Startup Repair.Fifth step - Do NOT boot from disc, because it should now be fixed.this i have only tested on 7, idk if this completely complies to Vista)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a rather complicated problem with a probably simple solution. I used to have a tri-boot machine - my first primary partition was WinXP Pro, second was a Xubuntu installation with swap on an extended partition, and finally a Windows 7 Pro primary partition.I deleted WinXP Pro and Xubuntu to create my very first Gentoo Linux installation. While that went well, I accidentally broke my Windows 7 startup. It's listed just fine under LILO (unless I listed it improperly) but Windows 7's BOOTMGR is now missing. I'm assuming the BOOTMGR might have been part of the WinXP installation.I went to this guide: Bootmgr is missing - FixHowever, I don't want to replace the MBR. I just want to reinstall the BOOTMGR onto the Windows 7 Pro partition so I can boot both Gentoo and Windows 7 properly. Of course, I might be misinterpreting where the BOOTMGR is normally located
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow can I boot up my computer and what is wrong? I can't boot up my computer with Win 7 Pro. I see the motherboard splash screen (Asus), then it goes to: "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" When I press ctrl-alt-del, it comes back to the same thing. I thought maybe I could boot to the Windows disk in the CD drive, but that didn't work.

I dug out the original microsoft disk, plugged in my external firwire cd drive, and tried to boot from there. The setup utility showed the cd drive after I plugged it in, but choosing it doesn't seem to stick. Then rebooting doesn't behave differently. Trying to reboot from network works, says cable not connected.
