Cannot Boot To (cloned) Hdd After Ssd Install

Nov 22, 2012

My new ssd is running great, it feels like a new car.

But I am having trouble with my backups. When I unplug the ssd and try to boot off the hdd (which worked before I installed my ssd) I get boot manager screens.

How can boot off my clones? I'm using Windows 7 and did not change the BIOS except to boot off of CD for the ssd install.

Unable To Boot Cloned Hdd?

May 3, 2011

recently my 1Tb seagate decided that it's S.M.A.R.T. would fail so I went out and bought a 500gb to back up my data using HDClone as I've only used about 390gb on the TB and now I can't get the cloned HDD to boot at first when I booted it the screen would just stay at the flashing underscore which I recognized as an OS issue and I booted it with the recovery disk that did not recognize there was even an OS to fix. I can view all of the files if I use it as a removable disk so I know the clone worked I just can't get it to boot

Dual Boot With Cloned Copy

Jan 8, 2011

I have windows 7 x64 installed, and need to copy that partition to another partition on the same drive, and be able to boot between the two using EasyBCD. One will be normal/office stuff, the other will be music production stuff.I copied the partition (C) using Acronis (bootCD mode) no problem, then copied that Acronis clone to the new partition (D). Booted back in to windows and used EasyBCD to add the new partition (D) to the boot menu with a new name. Now when I boot I get the boot choices as expected, but no matter which one I choose, it always boots into the original partition (C)? I've used EasyBCD quite a bit before without problems but this one is driving me nuts.

Windows 7 Cloned Drive Wont Boot?

Feb 16, 2013

I installed Win 7 to a SataIII drive/port with the intention of doing a bootable clone to a SataII drive/port. However on completion of the first install I realised that my cloning software was not capable of cloning the SRP (system reserved partition)Plan B ? Installed a second copy of Win 7 to the SataII drive/port on a single partition (no SRP) with the intention of cloning over the SataIII drive to eliminate the SRPWas hesitant to do this as the clone software wipes the SataIII drive so as a tester I cloned the SataII drive with the single partition to a spare SataII drive and it copied ok. Unfortunately when I disconnected the SataIII and SataII source drive the recently cloned spare SataII drive would not boot. The boot manager prompts the user to accept either of the two installed versions of Win 7 and whichever you nominate the spare SataII drive fails to boot. I installed the Win 7 repair disc to fix the start up but it displayed a message that it was unable to fix it.

Boot Disk Error With Cloned Windows 7 64 Bit On Ssd?

Dec 23, 2012

I installed my sandisk pulse ssd 256gb sata iii on my sata ii moo via pcie sata iii card. every now and then I get the boot disk error messages - CTRL-AL-DEL to restart . I set it as my primary disk boot and disabled the wd blue from appearing on bios hasrd disk selection (which also has os installed)

I know I don't get sata iii speed on my mobo but am more worried about boot disk error messages.

any fix for this? should I reinstall my win 7 ultimate 64 bit upgrade on the ssd and start afresh? at the same time save all data to external hdd and wipe the OS clean off the wd 500gb - then copy all music and sundry back to the wd blue?

I plan to get windows 8 asap while the upgrade version is on offer till end of January 2013.

after my hardware plan works will a clean install of windows 8 pro upgrade wipe my ssd clean fixing the problem?

Cloned Drive

May 16, 2009

I installed Windows 7 on my D: drive and it was only 80GB, and had everything running to my satisfaction. Started adding a few programs from my Vista install and thought the drive was to small, so cloned the drive unto a backup drive and installed a 1TB drive. Cloned the image back unto the new drive, but when I try to dual boot, it doesn't see Windows 7. I tried booting from the Windows 7 disk, to do a startup repair, but it doesn't see Windows 7 installed on the new drive.

Any ideas?

Using Cloned 32 Bit Windows 7 Hd On A 64 Bit System

Jan 3, 2012

I just purchased a second Dell M6300 and cloned the hd using Acronis. The cloning is supposed to produce a bootable drive. My problem is that the M6300 I just purchased has a 64 bit processor. After installing the 32 bit cloned hd my 64 bit unit won't boot. I tried using the Windows repair utility but that could not fix the issue. I tried installing Windows 7 32bit software again but it won't allow me to install it without booting to windows as I want to keep the programs and data already on the hd. Any ideas on how to get my cloned 32 bit os to boot on a 64 bit computer?

Cloned Ssd To Partitioned External Now Can't See Partition

Oct 4, 2012

I just cloned my ssd to my external hdd for work. On my external is an 80 gb partition that holds the clone of the ssd, the remainder of the space is a partition called G: When I boot from my ssd I can't access either partition on the external drive, although windows sees both partitions in the disk manager and says that it is in conflict with the data on my ssd. When I boot from the external I am unable to see let alone access the G: partition. I am aiming to be able to access the G: partition both from my ssd and from the ssd clone partition. Just a side note, when I plug the external into my netbook, everything is fine and I can both see and access both partitions.

Changing Product Key On Cloned Installation?

had a hard drive fail on a netbook, and I put in a drive from another of the same brand that had died for other reasons. The new drive took like fish to water - no blue screens, etc. And Windows even updated, as did MSE.

But I'd like to make this machine honest by entering the Windows 7 product key that's associated with the motherboard, so the next owner will never have a problem. Will I have a problem doing that? I don't want to lose what I already have.

Documents And User Files Cloned On Second Drive Issue

Feb 11, 2010

I had been thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 for sometime, and after my Raid array failed I wasn't forced to but it happened to be perfect timing.

Instead of waiting till my replacement drive arrived, I installed Windows 7 on a different drive temporarily.

After I received my new drive, I setup my array again and installed Windows 7 once again without a hitch. After installing all of my programs, games, etc. I started to notice both the User folder and Documents & Settings folders were both identical and were being updated simultaneously.

I know I didn't properly remove the old installation, but I've never seen Windows do this before. Very Odd. I've formatted the other drive and everything is good now, but I thought it was odd and wondered if it was a bug or a known issue.

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)

Nov 1, 2009

I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7.

Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

Cannot Install Or Boot To Windows 7

Aug 30, 2011

My system as followed:

Mobo gigabyte EP45-UD3R
CPU E6550
Ram Corsair ddr2 2GB bus 1066
VGA HD4850
HDD WD green 2tb (sparking new) + WD 500gb x 2 (1 year old)
PSU CoolerMaster 400w

The problem is: I cannot boot nor install new windows by any means, tried 4 different DVDs, none works. At first I thought the ram is at fault (heard multiple beeeps at POST screen) so I replace a new one (listed above) but it seem not to be the right solution.I have an ghost image of my laptop so I tried to restore it to my desktop, but it didn't work either.

PS: I can boot to miniXP by using Hiren's boot CD, check the disks and data inside, all seem just fine.

Windows Won't Boot After Sp1 Install

my computer won't even start up now. I am running Parallels 6.0 on my Macbook Pro and I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. When I downloaded the Service Pack 1 update, everything was fine until I tried to reboot and my computer won't even get to the start page. When I boot it, it says to do a system restore, so I tried that. But afterwards it says it cannot be restored. So the other option is to start windows normally, so I tried that. Then it says it has an error after installing 140,000 of 320,000. I think the error code was c000009s or something like that. So my problem is that my computer won't even boot up so I can make changes to it. [code]

Corrupt Xp Boot Ini After 7 Install

Jun 20, 2009

I was originally dual booting XP and Ubuntu on my main 240gb drive. I decided to give 7 a shot and in doing so wiped my ubuntu install, formatted a nice 50gb ntfs partition for 7 and installed it fine. However now when trying to boot into my "Previous Windows Installation" I'm getting a blank screen. I've tried using the XP recovery console from the disk to restore the bootmgr however chkdsk fails. I think somehow the partition table got rearranged during my install, and 7 didn't fix it for me. I have no idea what to do anymore since 7 won't allow me to change the partition value in my boot.ini file. I have a feeling that's all i need to do. I'm getting "Access is denied" on bootmgr and boot.ini in my XP home folder when accessing from Windows 7..

Cannot Boot From CD / Need To Format & Install

Oct 29, 2011

I have bought an old PC just for the case. It has an 80gb drive in it, so I thought I would use that for a new Vista I had lying around.I installed a new motherboard/cpu/ram combo I had (all working well prior). When I fire it up, the old drive had versions of both XP and 2000. However, both are corrupted an none will boot. The PC goes into a reboot loop each time, regardless of what I try. I have set the bios to boot from the cd drive with the MS original copy Vista, but it refuses to do so.Any way I can force the boot from the CD drive - or force a reformat? I cannot get to a command prompt, even trying safe mode.No biggy as I will just use another drive (once returned from Seagate), but it is a bit annoying not being able to do this. Perhaps the drive itself is corrupted?

Win7 Won't Boot After Install Without DVD Using 2 HDD

Oct 28, 2009

So, I have an interesting problem with installing Win 7 from XP. I'm doing a full install over the old XP drive.

I have an unusual hardware configuration. I have 2 HDD's, one is SATA, and the other is on a legacy IDE. The SATA drive is a WD Raptor which I use for the OS and the IDE is a slower, larger drive I use for storing data. Additionally, the IDE drive is the Slave on the IDE chain. In XP, this worked great, because the system would boot to the SATA drive and I could use both drives.

When I went to install 7, both drives appear in the list, but their letter names were reversed: the OS drive was listed as "D" and the data drive was listed as "C". I didn't think much of it until later. I installed on "D" which was the SATA drive. After install, I noticed that my IDE drive wasn't listed in file explorer.

So I opened the Disk Manager and found that both drives were listed, but only the install disk was active. However, the IDE drive was Disk 0, and the SATA drive was Disk 1 and labeled "C:". I activated the IDE drive and it became "E:" (the DVD-ROM was already "D:"). I attempted to reboot and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing". If I put in the Win 7 install DVD it will boot to the SATA drive.

I read some of the other threads here and attempted fixes using "bootrec.exe" to no avail. I finally decided to reinstall again on the SATA drive. Again, 7 listed the SATA drive as Disk 1/"C:", and the IDE drive as Disk 0/(no letter). This time, I didn't activate the IDE drive and tried to reboot. New message "No system disk...". Put in the Win 7 DVD and it boots to the SATA drive.

My current theory is that Windows 7 is getting confused about the drive ordering when creating the boot sector on the drives. I ran out of time last night, but I thought I would unplug the IDE drive and do a fresh install on the SATA drive, then plug in the IDE drive after things were booting normally.

I did check the BIOS settings, and the SATA drive is listed first in the boot order.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

AMD 4200+ CPU

OCZ 4GB RAM

(IDE) Hitachi 320GB

(SATA) WD Raptor 120GB

nVidia 7600GT

Can someone offer some advice on how to solve this so I don't need the Win 7 DVD in all the time?

Install Restarts After First Boot

Mar 23, 2009

I am trying to install Windows 7 Build 7000 on my computer. But it does not seem to want to continue install after the first restart.

Here is what I did:

I put in the dvd, and boot my computer from the DVD. I set the DVD to be the only boot device in the BIOS. The installer starts. I go through all the steps needed for install. It comes to the first restart, and the computer restarts. After a lot of waiting, the computer brings up the first step to the install. Where it shows the "Install Now" Button. (The install basically starts from step One again).

Not sure what I did wrong through all this. My computer Specs are AMD 6400 2.20Ghz, 2 Gigs of Ram, Clean 40 Gig IDE Hard drive, on Different IDE channel then the DVD Drive (Not sure if that is important). Linksys Wireless Add in Card, BFG Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT.

So if someone could help me get Windows 7 up and running, that would be great!

I forgot to say that I tried to install Windows 7 off a virtual drive from within XP, but that didnt seem to work after the first restart also. It did put the windows boot loader on my computer, but didnt finish the Windows 7 Install. I have a feeling that it tried to over-right my Windows XP install, because the boot loader only comes up when my XP drive is plugged in. When I tried installing 7 with the CD, I had my XP drive unplugged. So if 7 tried to install on my XP drive, how can I get the files off it, that I dont want on it anymore, and install Windows 7 on my other drive, in a XP and 7 Duel-boot.
