Win7 Won't Boot After Install Without DVD Using 2 HDD
So, I have an interesting problem with installing Win 7 from XP. I'm doing a full install over the old XP drive.
I have an unusual hardware configuration. I have 2 HDD's, one is SATA, and the other is on a legacy IDE. The SATA drive is a WD Raptor which I use for the OS and the IDE is a slower, larger drive I use for storing data. Additionally, the IDE drive is the Slave on the IDE chain. In XP, this worked great, because the system would boot to the SATA drive and I could use both drives.
When I went to install 7, both drives appear in the list, but their letter names were reversed: the OS drive was listed as "D" and the data drive was listed as "C". I didn't think much of it until later. I installed on "D" which was the SATA drive. After install, I noticed that my IDE drive wasn't listed in file explorer.
So I opened the Disk Manager and found that both drives were listed, but only the install disk was active. However, the IDE drive was Disk 0, and the SATA drive was Disk 1 and labeled "C:". I activated the IDE drive and it became "E:" (the DVD-ROM was already "D:"). I attempted to reboot and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing". If I put in the Win 7 install DVD it will boot to the SATA drive.
I read some of the other threads here and attempted fixes using "bootrec.exe" to no avail. I finally decided to reinstall again on the SATA drive. Again, 7 listed the SATA drive as Disk 1/"C:", and the IDE drive as Disk 0/(no letter). This time, I didn't activate the IDE drive and tried to reboot. New message "No system disk...". Put in the Win 7 DVD and it boots to the SATA drive.
My current theory is that Windows 7 is getting confused about the drive ordering when creating the boot sector on the drives. I ran out of time last night, but I thought I would unplug the IDE drive and do a fresh install on the SATA drive, then plug in the IDE drive after things were booting normally.
I did check the BIOS settings, and the SATA drive is listed first in the boot order.

Can someone offer some advice on how to solve this so I don't need the Win 7 DVD in all the time?

OK, this feels a bit stupid but I can't seem to get Windows 7 to boot without the DVD in the drive. Without it I get NTLDR is missing etc etc. I have 2 Sata drives, one with XP on it and the other clean apart from an install of Windows 7. I've arranged the boot order so that it tries to boot the Windows 7 drive first but to no avail. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong? When I give up and finally boot with the DVD in start up takes roughly 7 minutes. It all seems pretty strange. Once it's running all is fine, haven't had one issue or error yet.

HP 64 Won't Boot Unless Dvd In In Drive
I am having a problem after installing Win 7 HP 64 bit. The installation completes, but when I reboot with out the install dvd in the drive, it says boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter. I am upgrading from Win XP Pro 32bit. Prior to installing the retail version, I was dual booting XP pro and Win 7 RC on two hdd's. I formatted the Win 7 drive in XP, then did a clean install of Win 7, formatting the drive with the installer. Any ideas as what I need to do? Like I said, my problem is that Win 7 won't boot unless the install dvd is in the drive.

Won't Boot Without DVD In Drive
Installed Win 7 RC 64bit as a stand alone OS on my machine. When booting, if the DVD is inserted, it will give me the "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" message, if I wait until that message expires, then the OS boots fine. If I remove the DVD, then the system does not see either drive as bootable. Drives are: C:Â (A0) Intel 64GB X25-E SSDÂ (OS installed here) D:Â (B0) Maxtor 1TB drive E:Â (B1) Pioneer CD/DVD burner Motherboard is EVGA nForce 750i SLI Probably doesn't matter, but just in case: CPU: Q8400 RAM: 8GB Corsair 800 GPU: [2] GTX260 PSU: Cooler Master 1000W I've tried Installing multiple times now, with both drives installed, and also with removing the magnetic drive and installing with only the SSD & DVD in the system. The problem still persists through each installation. I've also tried changing the SATA mode in the BIOS. Any suggestions ?

RC DVD Won't Boot On MacBook Pro
I downloaded the RC ISO and burned it to a DVD and tried to install it on my MacBook Pro, but the DVD won't boot. I hold down C during boot, they gray screen comes up and the disc spins real fast for a while, but nothing happens. I have read that the ISO created isn't ISO compliant so you have to create an ISO that is. I followed the instructions here to do that. This didn't make a difference. I didn't have any problems installing the Beta, but the RC won't boot.

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7. Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

Win7 Won't Install On 64 Bit Compatible Hardware
I just built a custom PC using the guts of an older Alienware with a few new upgrades:MOBO: Asus P5N32-SLI DeluxeCPU: Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz (4MB L2) supports EM64TRAM: 4GB (4X1GB) I tried installing a retail copy of Win7 Ultimate 64-bit and i get as far as the beautiful blue flowery background and a mouse cursor that just sits there doing nothing. When i pop in the 32-bit DVD, then i can install without a problem. Once the 32-bit installation finished up, i checked the "performance information and tools" and the reports stated that my machine is indeed 64-bit capable. I also checked the Intel and Asus support sites and determined that both my CPU and chipset are 64-bit compatible. The only other thing i can think of is that the Win7 DVD does not contain a 64-bit version of my SATA controlller and thus cannot access my hard drive. The issue with that is there doesn't seem to be an option to load drivers as it used to be available in XP by pressing F6.Any ideas?

W7 Won't Show HDD In My Computer
So the drives in question are 3 Seagate 1.5tb 7200.11 HD's. They show up fine in the BIOS where they are all listed as slaves (ga-p55-ud4p) and in Device Manager - which lists them all as working properly. I cannot distinguish one from another in Device Manager, and the one that is working has very important legal files on it. However, I can only see one in "My Computer" - but the other 2 I cannot "see" them so I cannot access them. The one I can see is the oldest one and was not altered when the older PC was upgraded (upgraded all components except HD's and OS). I also kept 2 older WD 500AAKS which are both working fine as well. The two I cannot see: One is brand new. The other was reformatted to blank (quick) on another PC (which was upgraded to Win7 at that time) which subsequently could not see the drive. I moved it over to this faster PC and still cannot see it. All these 1.5tb Seagate drives are CC firmware so are not part of the older firmware issue. None have any 1.5gb jumpers on them. Mobo drivers are all fully up to date - I just re-updated all of them. Windows is up to date. Windows does show in the Troubleshooter that a USB controller driver is not found and I cannot seem to find out how to install it (via uninstalling it, updating drivers, etc etc - question thread http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/270613-30-ud4p-win7-64bitpro-controller-driver ga-p55-ud4p rev.1, i7 860, 4gb gskill eco ram, xfx 5890, Seasonic X750 gold, very cool system... What gives? Any ideas?

HDD Won't Work In W7 Due To Drivers
I just got everything put together tonight and went to install W7 and it says I need to format my HDD. So I click Format and then W7 tells me I need to install the media drivers. I don't have any drivers for the HDD its an OEM. I don't understand. Its a HDD, format it. Can someone help me out here?

Cannot Boot Win7 Without Install DVD Within Drive
The installation of Windows 7 (32 bit) went smoothly without any surprises but if I attempt to reboot without the install DVD within the drive I have a boot failure. I can restart my computer time and time again and it will boot as expected as long as the installation CD remains within the drive. I verified that my boot sequence is CD then Harddisk and never had this problem on XP. Just in case, I thought I may have had a corrupted iso file, or something didn't install correctly so I've downloaded the 64bit flavor. The install again went smoothly but identical to the last time, I must keep the install dvd within the drive for a successful launch to the OS.

Win7 [7100] Install Can't Find Required CD/DVD Driver
I'm trying to install Win7 [7100] on my secondary harddrive, but when I go to start the install process it opens a prompt that says it "cannot find a required CD/DVD driver." When I try to choose the folder that the current DVD drive's driver is stored in, it says it "cannot find a device driver" in it. The DVD-ROM works just fine [as evidenced by the fact that it both works in Vista and lets me boot from the DVD in it], so I'm left trying to figure out what the issue is and how to solve it.

Dvd Won't Start - Code 05
i´ve a problem,i´ve downloaded the windows 7 beta1 from the Microsoft and burned the iso image on a dvd.so the problem is, i´ll reboot my pc but the dvd won´t start.i´ll get these message: cannot boot from dvd code 05, so what i have made wrong?

Samsung External DVD Won't Work
I did install win7 from a USB-stick following instructions on a forum, formatting this and making it bootable with all tools from the Win-7 DVD and it worked great. But now I did get me an external DVD burner (Samsung SE S084) and would love to use it. If I plug it into my old XP notebook, it works without installing any drivers. So does it when I boot the Linux partition on my netbook, I can boot from it too, But it just won't show in the explorer when I plug it in the netbook and boot Win7. It is shown in the device manager, it has CD.sys as driver and is reported as working fine (I don't really agree on that;-) Driver update is grayed out. So, what can I do, besides switching to Ubuntu, to start using my DVD?

Won't Boot Without AHCI
I installed Windows 7 (full retail) last night and during installation I HAD to use AHCI for SATA configuration in my BIOS just to get Windows 7 to install. I have a SATA HDD and an IDE optical DVD burner. Windows 7 recognizes the dvd drive completely, but it refuses to read discs. I made a backup of all my files on a data DVD so I could place them back into my new OS. However, when I place the DVD into the drive, the OS locks up untill I eject the disc. I am positive that if I switch back the SATA configuration to IDE mode (like i had it setup in XP) my drive would read fine. Only problem is that Windows 7 will BSOD at start if I dont have the BIOS setup in AHCI mode. I have tried the registry "start" values trick and it did not work either.Also, I've updated my BIOS and chipset drivers and atttempted to set back to IDE mode but still Win7 refuses to boot. One curious thing in retrospect that I discovered was; the ribbon cable I use for the IDE drive has 2 connections on it. During the install of Win7 I frequently had the "dvd/cd driver required" error. One thing i noticed is that when I switched to the second connection on the ribbon cable I no longer recieved the error. However, I still had AHCI enabled on my motherboard. Edit: As of now I have ordered a new samsung SATA drive, not sure how that will go however.

Asus Aj8 Laptop Won't Recognize Win 7 DVD
I hope someone can answer this perplexing problem. I have downloaded and installed Windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works perfectly. My laptop which was running Windows XP however wont recognize the Windows 7 DVD. I put the DVD in the drive, turn on the laptop, hit ESC which brings up the boot menu, select the CD but then it just goes back to the start screen and boots into XP. I have tried putting the installation on a USB Flash drive and the same thing happens. Just for an experiment I downloaded a Linux distro and installed installed it via the USB Flash drive method and it worked seamlessly...but I want Windows 7! Has anyone else had this problem and/or is there an alternate way to install Windows 7.

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported. The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device." I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones. I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway. The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

I can't boot to Windows 7. It says that Windows could not verify something about this object. Windowssystem32winboot.exe Anyone got anyway to fix it so I can boot to windows 7? PS: I used Vista Boot Pro, and for the boot loader option, I clicked Install Longhorn Bootloader. Could this be the problem?

Win 7 RC Won't Boot With 4gb
I just installed windows 7rc 64 bit  and when I was installing it I had 4gb of memory in, all worked fine till the end then it got stuck at the windows logo. I then took one of my memory sticks leaving just 2gb of memory, then it installed just fine. After all the updates, I put the 2gb back in and i'm having the same problem. it gets stuck at the windows logo and won't boot up.  If I take the 2gb back out it will boot up. I do know they are good because I have another hard drive with vista ultimate  and was using windows 7 on this hard drive  with no problem.. this is driving me crazy.. can someone please help .. Oh any my husband has the same mother board and ram as mine.. and his works just fine.

Win 7 Won't Dual Boot With XP
I installed Win7 to a separate disk to the one that had XP (sp2) on. But it did not create any dual boot options (which I had expected it to). Obviously I cannot get into XP now. How do I fix this? My disk configuration Pre Win 7 was: SATA Disk1 with XP Sp2 on. (320gb)SATA Disk2 (320gb)IDE Secondary - DVD Drive. For Win7 is:- IDE Primary - new 80gb drive for Win 7 (Became the C drive)SATA Disk1 (Drive D)SATA Disk2 (Drive E)IDE Secondary - DVD Drive. WMP Plays Mp4s But Win DVD Maker Won't Import Them
I made some mp4 movie files on my new Ubuntu 9.04 Studio box using the Flash Video Resources Downloader FireFox pluging to capture videos off YouTube. Works great! But the Brasero Linux burner failed to properly burn a DVD to play in a DVD player on my USB connected burner, so I went searching for a Win solution. Tried to play the mp4s on XP WMP 9, not recognized. My Nero wouldn't import them either (maybe it wanted money). Win 7 did play them but the Win 7 DVD Maker choked. I figured wrong that if one Win 7 product handles them, then another would too. For that matter, if MS left Mail out of Win 7 due to anti-trust issues, why is WMP still here?

Win7 Won't Recognize External Harddrive
I have a Sony vaio FW 490J with Windows 7 Pro RTM on. When I plug my external my into my usb port it does not show up in computer but shows in devices and printers. I try to assign it a letter driver in Disk management it wont work. The hard driver does show in Disk management. Can someone please help to resolve this problem I'm having. I didn't have this problem when i had vista on the laptop.

ATI Driver Won't Install
I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I installed Windows 7 Build 7100 on it. However, Open GL games do not work, and I have the ATI 8.56 graphics driver installed and I am trying to upgrade it to the latest 8.61. However, after I run the installer, my screen does not blink and once installation is complete, I do not see a change in the driver version - and catalyst is not installed as well. However, when i am trying to re-install it says the drivers are already installed. Any ideas as to whats going wrong? Its a 32-bit OS. I cannot run any OpenGL games, they fail saying it could not load OpenGL.

Network HP Printer Won't Install
Trying to install an HP 2100 tn printer through a Linksys router to a Win 7 62 Pro machine. Win 7 drivers for Asus MB, Marvell Card and latest firmware for Linksys router. Tried Win 7 printer installation routines a jillion times...and it couldn't find the printer (power cycled router and printer several times). Used HP latest network diagnostic but it can't find the printer. Used latest PCL 5, 6 and PS drivers from HP - nothing. Used netsniffer with HP diagnostic and it looks like the diagnostic sees the printer (reports the correct i.p. address) but doesn't identify it as a printer. Went back to XP where the printer works and found it is currently working with IPX protocol. Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to buy a new printer, or stick with XP.

Harddrive Won't Partition For Dual Boot
I'm currently running Windows 7 and I'm trying to partition my hard drive so I can dual boot Mac os x Leopard. I have 133 GB free on my 230 GB internal hard drive, but when I partition the drive the computer will only let me open about 5 GB of space. I have defragged the drive and nothing changed. I am new to dual booting and I am really only doing this as an experiment. If anyone can give me any advice as to how I can partition more space or how much is needed I would be very grateful.

Won't Boot Past The Loading Screen
My problem is that windows 7 wont get past the loading screen when its loading the OS. I have noticed that it will work when i have only 2GB(one stick) in but when i try to put all 8GB(4 sticks) in, it wont work. This same thing happened when i was trying to install windows 7 from a fresh install.

W7 Won't Boot Up After Installing NVIDIA Drivers
Well, I have this problem: After installing 64bit 186.03 (tried 185 too) NVIDIA drivers for notebooks (I have geforce 9200m gs) and restarting, windows just won't boot up. The screen goes black and then reboots without even showing the "welcome screen". I've tried this with 7100 and RTM builds (Didn't have any problems with xp though).

Win 7 Disk Won't Boot Computer
I have my serial number that I got from Microsoft a while back and I burned the iso to a bootable dvd however when I try to boot with the burned disk, all that happens is I get a black screen with a flashing cursor at the top of the screen. I left the computer like this for aproximately 2 hours tonight and it never ended up booting up. I've tried using imgburn as well as magiciso to burn the image to the disk and both of them have made coasters of several dvd disks now. From what I remember when I first installed Win 7, I was atleast able to double click on the setup.exe program and it would bring up a windows 7 window in vista that was like an installer. However when I try that now, I just get a message telling me that autorun.dll is either not made for this version of windows or it is corrupt. I can't imagine the iso file becoming corrupt from simply sitting on a drive that I rarely use between the last time that I burned the iso image to a dvd and installed Win 7 and now. Perhaps this is a common issue that somebody here knows how to deal with. Apparently MS isn't allowing any more downloads of the iso so I'm pretty much stuck with the iso that I have an hoping that it's not really corrupt.
