Option For Win7 Disappeared On The Boot Screen

Jun 30, 2009

I installed Win 7 sometime around Feb, a dual boot with Win XP. But when I upgraded Win XP to Vista, the option for Win 7 disappeared on the boot screen, and the system would boot straight into Vista. So, I used the Startup repair option from the Win 7, and after rebooting it showed the boot screen with W 7, and Vista. But, after I "repaired" it, Win 7 seems to have lost the Win 7 startup screen. It now shows the "Starting Windows" from Windows Vista, then the Win 7 "welcome" screen.

I realize it's not much of a problem, but is there any way I could get the Win 7 startup screen back?

No Dual Boot Manager / Option Screen After Win7 Install

Jun 9, 2009

I've installed 64bit win 7 on a 2nd partion of my main drive running vista 64bit. The installation all went smoothly and loaded into win 7.

But when restarted I did't get a windows boot manager screen so i could pick if I wish to load Vista or Windows 7, instead my system just loads straight into Vista.

Do I have to enable my system to be able to see the Windows 7 install?

Boot Screen Option

Jul 4, 2009

I had winxp sp3 and Windows 7 7127 x64 on dual boot (xp on c:/ and 7 on d:/)

I replaced xp sp3 with Windows 7 7264 x86 ...at first I couldn't login to Windows 7 7127 because the dual boot seemed to be gone. I fixed it using easybcd so now I have dual boot again for 7127 x64 and 7264 x86 .

The problem is that now when I boot 7127 it has a vista boot screen (probabbly because of easybcd not having a Windows 7 option). How can I change it back to the Windows 7 boot screen? Does anyone have any clues?

No OS Selection Option On Boot Screen

Jan 6, 2009

I'm using the Windows 7 - 7000 build too.

Well, I have some questions... first, regarding the boot screen when I turn on the computer. I've installed Windows XP SP2 this way: Deleted all the partitions on my hard drive, then did two partitions from the installation program of the CD, then I installed Windows XP in one of the partitions, then I installed Windows 7 in the other partition.

So, I have two SO's running, but, when I turn on the PC only stars with Windows 7. There is no OS selection screen at the very beggining. What could be the problem?

Second, and regarding with graphics. I'm running Win 7 in a HP 530 Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM and this: "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, up to 224-MB shared system memory". When I turn on the slideshow as a Desktop Background, sometimes I see weird lines and the transition is not as smooth. Also, I've installed Warcraft III Frozen Throne and when I play, I see some dark flashes and lines.

This happens because of the "beta" not handling well the GMA 950?? I'm using the drivers that came on with the Windows 7, however, I think I've updated them via Windows Update since it seems that HP and Intel are friends with Bill Gates.

Boot Screen Problem: The XP Option Restarts The PC

May 8, 2009

I had Windows 7 7057 & XP running Fine, Dual Boot was working fine

On The Same Disk but different partition:

c: / Windows 7 7057

d: / XP

To install the Windows 7 RC 7100 i've formatted the c: partition and installed on it.

No problems at all during installation. Windows 7 RC is running Fine.

XP is lost, so i've tried to add it to the boot options using EasyBCD 1.7.2, FAILED. Then running as ADMINISTRATOR bcedit.exe:

i've done this:

Heres my boot "overview" takem from EasyBCD

bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"

bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=D:

bcdedit /set {ntldr} path
tldr

bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast
When i restart the Boot options appears Windows 7 and Windows Xp

But when i choose the XP option and Hit the enter key, the system immediately restarts.

NVIDIA Option On The Control Panel Has Disappeared?

Oct 2, 2012

I bought a new monitor. Setting it up, the NVIDIA option on the control panel has disappeared.Instead, I have the Windows control panel for setting up a monitor, and the nVIDIA device driver for the monitor has disappeared. (There used to be two, the Intel 4 chipset for integrated graphics, and a second one for the nVIDIA device.)The Intel 4 device now lists "NVIDIA" as the manufacturer, NVIDIA is listed as the driver provider (driver version 8.15.11.8688 from 2009). There is an install date of 1/29/2012 though I've had the PC since 2009.Jan 2012 was about the time I reloaded a standard WIN7 after getting fed up with ASUS support for their OEM version (long story).I haven't looked at this in a long time, so no idea what happened.I would rather use the NVIDIA chipset, I think it works better than the integrated (that's why I bought it in the first place.)How can I get the NVIDIA chipset back up and running?

Realtek Digital Output Option Disappeared?

Jul 18, 2012

I have a Samsung laptop (Windows 7 x64, Realtek) connected to a TV via HDMI cable (audio over HDMI). Some time back, I had got HDMI Audio option (in Control Panel -> Sound) disabled so that I could use Realtek Digital Output (via headphone jack to Coax on my receiver) and it worked fine. Recently I played with these settings again due to change of receiver. I actually cant recall what started the problem, but Realtek Digital Output has disappeared. I have got 'show disabled/disconnected' option on but that did not help. The analog output (also Realtek) continues to show.I rolled back, uninstalled, re-installed the Realtek HD driver a few times, but nothing has brought the Digital Output option back.

Dual Boot - Lost The Option To Boot Into XP

Nov 24, 2009

When my computer wouldn't turn on in the morning I did the usual diagnostics; unplug things one at time test with spare components etc... Any way I qucikly figured out the PSU was dead so I ordered a new one and was back up and running. However when I reassembled the computer after unplugging everything (and removing the m/b) I plugged the HDDs back into different SATA ports from which they orginally came. When I came to boot the computer up I got the error message: 'BOOTMGR missing' or it may have been 'NTLDR missing' I can't remember.

I fixed this problem by using the 7 startup repair utility. I have no problem booting into Windows 7, but I have lost the option to boot into my XP install on anther disk. I looked in the boot tab under System Configuration and the only OS showing is this Windows 7 install. So my question is this: how can I get the choice of which OS to boot back?

(I should mention that the XP install is on a different disk from the 7 install).

Win 7 Has Disappeared From Boot Manager

Nov 24, 2009

Can anyone help please? I added another drive to my computer today. I am dual booting Windows 7 with Vista x86 and I was using Acronis disk manager to format the new drive and it asked me to reboot. After this is where the confusion started. My windows 7 got stuck in the windows splash screen. I had to install the installation disk to start it. After this it seemed fine until I rebooted into Vista to make sure that it was okay and it appears that acronis was completing it's disc management within this.

It booted fine into Vista but my boot manager shows 2 versions of vista instead of default Windows 7 and Vista.

Boot Menu Doesn't Show Up - XP And Win7 Dual Boot

Oct 30, 2009

I have XP (x86) installed on one partition.

Last night I installed Windows 7 (x64) on a separate partition.

Anytime I had tried this in the past, using Vista, it always detected the Windows XP partition, and gave me a boot menu with "Earlier Version of Windows" option to boot to.

This is not so with Windows 7.

How can I get the boot menu to show both options, to boot to XP or to Windows 7?

I Cannot Use Screen Rotation Option

Sep 8, 2009

I got an Acer Extensa 5220 laptop with Windows 7 RC and integrated graphic card of Intel. The properties of this graphics don't have the screen rotation option and neither does Windows in the Screen Resolution menu.

I tried to reinstall the system (to RC again and to RTM), downloaded programs such as EEErotate, iRotate, PivotPro; used the Ctrl+Alt+(arrows) combination, upgraded the graphic card to the latest drivers and none of these options worked.

I was wondering if this could be enabled through the Windows Registry Editor.

Dual Boot With XP Doesn't Provide Option

Oct 26, 2009

I created a separate partiton and installed Win 7 fine. It dual booted fine as well. I then renamed the old XP boot partition and this caused the PC to give NTLDR missing and wouldnt boot.

So I reinstalled Win 7 as a custom install and it all boots fine into Win 7 without providing me a dual boot option. I am not too concerned about this as eventually I was going to go completely over to Win 7 anyway

Question I have is

1) The old Win XP boot partition is viewable in explorer. Can I just reformat this and reclaim the space - I want to make sure that the PC is not looking for any files in that old partition

2) Can I delete the Windows.old folder as well

How To Stop Getting Start Windows Normally Option On Every Boot Up

Oct 2, 2011

Occasionally, as this PC is booting up, it asks if I want to Start Windows Normally. I press enter for this. However, if I don't do anything, because I am out of the room, it still goes ahead after 15 seconds. In this case, though, I can't operate any of the programs that come up on Windows 7 home edition. When I click on my Firefox browser for example nothing happens. I then have to reboot the PC (switching it off and on) and make sure I'm in front of the PC to press enter when this message comes up. Then all the programs run as normal. Is there any way of stopping it asking me?
