I am trying to install a password recovery cd on laptop. I changed the order in bios but still not giving option too boot from cd. I even logged in as a guest and put an audio cd in .It didnt give option too play. I think its the cd drive. What can I do?

I recently built my computer and installed a ssd and a hdd, the OS is on the ssd which is the c drive but since it is smaller than the hdd I tried to change the letters around and make the hdd the c drive using regedit because the default install location seems to be the c drive and after restarting the computer it boots up and says preparing your desktop then goes to a blue screen with just the cursor. I tried booting in safe mode and all I get there is a black screen also
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had a dual boot, xp/Win 7, The HD with the XP crashed. Reinstalled XP and now don't have dual boot option. Tried for 2 days to get it to work but to no avail. I reinstalled Win 7 on a different HD than the old install. Got the dual boot option back. Here's my question, can I edit the boot sequence to redirect to the old Win 7 install instead of the new one? So I don't have to re-install all my programs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'll give you a general overview of what has happened with my computer lately so we can get the big picture, I run windows 7 home premium -64bit with a asustek p7p55 lx mother board a nvidia 560 graphics card. As for the beginning of the problem, it started with my ram, I had 4gb installed and wanted to up it so I got another 4gb set (4 cards total as the board has 4 slots) it ran fine for a while but I had an issue where it wouldn't start, I decided to clean it out since it was super dirty and during trial and error found that the first ram slot was not working, I have since then had to buy 2 4gb sticks and run 10gb of ram. I recently have and issue same as when I tried to use all 4 slots that the CPU fan runs at high rpm and the boot doesn't even start. I don't get beeps or anything and so my computer is left useless! Since I upgrade my graphics card the case my computer in fits it but it had an attachable funnel type thing to channel air to the CPU, I'm wondering due to the graphics cards size I can not put that on so I have left the case off, speed fan has never shown any high temps. The computer was running fine for 2-3 weeks and then it just died.
if it does boot, it stays black and beeps once long then three short beeps, this is the same as it uses to do and I fixed it by removing the first ram slot. I've tried all of the slots and tried resetting the ram memory or what ever it's called. I forget.. Starts with a c and I'm on my phone so I can't look it up.
When I go into the Bios Boot screen there is no CD, HD etc option. Blank? Any suggestions please?

I recently installed windows 7 home premium on my new SSD drive. I previously had windows 7 installed on a 2GB HHD drive (same win dvd, same serial). I booted with windows dvd, and formatted the old c: (which had windows on it). The HHD drive had 2 partitions and i kept the other one ,which only contained one folder with aprox 10 GB of random files, but nothing windows related).
Windows is now up and running from my SSD disc, but in the boot sequence two(!) windows 7 installations are shown, and I'm asked to choose which one i wanna boot with. The top alternative works as intended, but the other one tells me to make a windows repair with the windows dvd. I do not want to repair this (non existing) instance of windows. I want it removed! How do I make it disappear?
My wife has a Compaq PC, bought 3 months ago, with an AMD Sempron 2.7 Ghz and 2.00 GB of ram. Windows 7 takes a full 4 minutes to boot. I've disabled all non-essential external devices, and completely reinstalled Windows 7. Still has the same problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen my computer wouldn't turn on in the morning I did the usual diagnostics; unplug things one at time test with spare components etc... Any way I qucikly figured out the PSU was dead so I ordered a new one and was back up and running. However when I reassembled the computer after unplugging everything (and removing the m/b) I plugged the HDDs back into different SATA ports from which they orginally came. When I came to boot the computer up I got the error message: 'BOOTMGR missing' or it may have been 'NTLDR missing' I can't remember.
I fixed this problem by using the 7 startup repair utility. I have no problem booting into Windows 7, but I have lost the option to boot into my XP install on anther disk. I looked in the boot tab under System Configuration and the only OS showing is this Windows 7 install. So my question is this: how can I get the choice of which OS to boot back?
(I should mention that the XP install is on a different disk from the 7 install).
Windows wont start it freezes during the boot up sequence.(when the windows starting comes up). I tried safe mode it freeze during that but it stopped at Windowssystem3ddriversAtiPcie64.sys..I tried start up repair, it froze during that, the blue wallpaper of the repair screen comes up though but after that it just freezes. I tried my last good configuration it froze during that as well. This happened after i restarted the computer 5 or 7 consecutive times because i was trying to get into safe mode. I did not log in i just restarted again from the login screen

View 3 Replies View RelatedI needed a good backup program so I downloaded a trial of MirrorFolders. I have two identical 750GB drives in my laptop: C (my main drive) and Z (my backup drive). MirrorFolders made an identical copy of C onto Z. That wasn't what I really wanted, because C is partitioned into D and E, and MirrorFolders didn't mirror the other two partitions. The backup methodology wasn't exactly what I was looking for, so I uninstalled the program. After uninstalling MirrorFolders, the machine is now booting to the Z drive, which means I can't format it and try another backup program.
Is there a simple way to restore the boot ability of my C drive? I read a great deal about copying boot folders and such, but I wasn't exactly sure if these were the right answers and I didn't want to screw things up any worse. I figured I could go into the BIOS and disable the Z drive, but no luck. The machine couldn't find a bootable drive, even though C supposedly has the same files as Z.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and video card into my computer. I'm not looking to salvage my old OS install, and have all important data backed up, so I planned to just put the hardware in and boot off my windows disk to do a format and reload. However no matter what I do I can't get windows setup or an OS to load. When loading the installer it locks up at the windows splash screen. I've tried booting off the hdd and it does the same thing. I tried it in safe mode and it locks up before it finished loading all the files. I also tried booting mini XP off my Hirens 15 disk and that locks up at the splash screen too.
So at this point I ran memtest to see if it was my ram causing problems but it all tested ok. how to boot off my disk so I can format and reload?
I had winxp sp3 and Windows 7 7127 x64 on dual boot (xp on c:/ and 7 on d:/)
I replaced xp sp3 with Windows 7 7264 x86 ...at first I couldn't login to Windows 7 7127 because the dual boot seemed to be gone. I fixed it using easybcd so now I have dual boot again for 7127 x64 and 7264 x86 .
The problem is that now when I boot 7127 it has a vista boot screen (probabbly because of easybcd not having a Windows 7 option). How can I change it back to the Windows 7 boot screen? Does anyone have any clues?
Compressed C: and my battery on my laptop died while this was compressing. Turned laptop back on Got the error:Bootmgr is compressed..The problem I'm having is that there is no option to boot from CD Drive. My CD drive is listed in my BIO's but when I go to boot options only my HDD is listed.

It is now the X drive and I cannot boot. I do get the repair screen but cannot repair as there is no operating system to choose. Booting from windows disk makes no difference here.My bios (uefi) can see the disk, I can also see it from the command prompt?

Whilst it was wiping my laptop crashed and would not re boot properly but I was able to access the BIOS . I stupidly changed some settings following some advice on a forum I now cannot find and when I tried to re boot it stays on the philips page for around 10 minutes. Well, I have some questions... first, regarding the boot screen when I turn on the computer. I've installed Windows XP SP2 this way: Deleted all the partitions on my hard drive, then did two partitions from the installation program of the CD, then I installed Windows XP in one of the partitions, then I installed Windows 7 in the other partition.
So, I have two SO's running, but, when I turn on the PC only stars with Windows 7. There is no OS selection screen at the very beggining. What could be the problem?
Second, and regarding with graphics. I'm running Win 7 in a HP 530 Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM and this: "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, up to 224-MB shared system memory". When I turn on the slideshow as a Desktop Background, sometimes I see weird lines and the transition is not as smooth. Also, I've installed Warcraft III Frozen Throne and when I play, I see some dark flashes and lines.
This happens because of the "beta" not handling well the GMA 950?? I'm using the drivers that came on with the Windows 7, however, I think I've updated them via Windows Update since it seems that HP and Intel are friends with Bill Gates.
My laptop recently just will not start from any boot option I select, it always freezes and when click system restore all that loads is a black screen with a cursor, other than that every other option from the boot menus I select fail too.
