Changed Hardware, Now Won't Boot Off Hdd Or Disk

Dec 14, 2011

I just installed a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and video card into my computer. I'm not looking to salvage my old OS install, and have all important data backed up, so I planned to just put the hardware in and boot off my windows disk to do a format and reload. However no matter what I do I can't get windows setup or an OS to load. When loading the installer it locks up at the windows splash screen. I've tried booting off the hdd and it does the same thing. I tried it in safe mode and it locks up before it finished loading all the files. I also tried booting mini XP off my Hirens 15 disk and that locks up at the splash screen too.

So at this point I ran memtest to see if it was my ram causing problems but it all tested ok. how to boot off my disk so I can format and reload?

Local Disk Icon Changed In My Computer Folder

Aug 23, 2011

Everything was good with my hard drive but now the last time I opened my pc I noticed something really odd. In "My Computer" folder my Local Disk icon had changed. Instead of being an icon that displays a disk, it is an icon that displays something like a crab! What is that?! Is it some kind of virus? How can I change it to the default icon?!

Disk Check Utility Changed File Names?

Feb 17, 2012

I periodically get notices from Windows 7 that I need to run the disk check utility. This is usually after a BSOD. These events have been occurring from the day I bought this laptop and I have posted them here in the past. This time, the disk check utility changed names on at least 12 files. I don't know WHAT files, because the utility said the file names were corrupted. After the reboot, I found that my Libraries were missing from the file manager. My Documents, Pictures, Videos and Music were gone. If I looked by clicking on C: and then navigating to them, I could find them, but the file manager could not. Also, clicking on the Start button, then All Programs, gave me an empty screen. All the shortcuts were gone. Many of the shortcuts on my Task Bar are missing their Icons, but they work. Many of my music files will not play because the file extension is now m4p. Changing the file extension to mp3 or mp4 does not work, the system sees them as an unknown file type. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials, a FULL SCAN, and it scanned about 86,000 files. That was all it could find. I have attached images that show the start menu and virus scan results as well as the usual dump files. The images show a black desktop, but I corrected that by re-choosing the custom theme I had made. I tried to use Restore, but the restore points have disapeared, and I cannot restore to before this event.

Changed Windows 7 64bit To 32bit - Disk Errors

Feb 26, 2012

I have done a clean 32 bit Win 7 install over a previous 64 bit install on the C partition. The D partition was not touched but now is inaccessible as is my external USB hard drive. Both are NTFS and up until yesterday had no errors or problems. It is a 64 to 32 bit problem or access permissions?

Boot Drive Was Changed By MirrorFolders

Apr 9, 2011

I needed a good backup program so I downloaded a trial of MirrorFolders. I have two identical 750GB drives in my laptop: C (my main drive) and Z (my backup drive). MirrorFolders made an identical copy of C onto Z. That wasn't what I really wanted, because C is partitioned into D and E, and MirrorFolders didn't mirror the other two partitions. The backup methodology wasn't exactly what I was looking for, so I uninstalled the program. After uninstalling MirrorFolders, the machine is now booting to the Z drive, which means I can't format it and try another backup program.

Is there a simple way to restore the boot ability of my C drive? I read a great deal about copying boot folders and such, but I wasn't exactly sure if these were the right answers and I didn't want to screw things up any worse. I figured I could go into the BIOS and disable the Z drive, but no luck. The machine couldn't find a bootable drive, even though C supposedly has the same files as Z.

Changed Windows 7 Computer Name; Now Won't Boot At All?

Oct 29, 2012

I was working on setting up a PC for network usage with the understanding that it hadn't been used muchpreviously.Unfortunately I found that it had a PC name already existing on the network and went to change the PC name and IP address as needed for a static IP environmentHowever, after selecting to "restart" the system never rebooted up and I cannot seem to access the CD drive to place a restore CD or basically do anything with the PC.Any ideas on what happened?I've unplugged the computer and waited a few seconds to plug it in.Once replugged it returns to having the basic lights on it blink about once every few second and appears to be otherwise disabled.

Drive Letter Randomly Changed, OS Won't Boot

Apr 3, 2012

I'm not sure what the trigger was but my C drive where my os is installed apparently took the drive letter of an external drive that I use for backup. It is now the X drive and I cannot boot. I do get the repair screen but cannot repair as there is no operating system to choose. Booting from windows disk makes no difference here.My bios (uefi) can see the disk, I can also see it from the command prompt?

Changed BIOS Now Will Not Boot Windows 7 Ultimate?

Dec 19, 2012

Yesterday I was attempting to wipe my hard drive as I was putting my laptop for sale. Whilst it was wiping my laptop crashed and would not re boot properly but I was able to access the BIOS . I stupidly changed some settings following some advice on a forum I now cannot find and when I tried to re boot it stays on the philips page for around 10 minutes. None of the keys work, like F12, F2 ect. After ten minutes it give me a screen thats says 1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".3.Click "Repair your computer."If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.Status: 0xc000000fThis is how I understand it as my system is in Polish and Polish is not my first language and with technical language I am not fluent and I beleive thats how I made the mistake in the first place in the BIOS.

[CRASH] Missing OS Boot Loader And The Computer Name Was Changed

Jun 6, 2011

All I did was open a video strored locally with no connection to the internet. Shut down computer properly. I go to start it up and start up repair kick in. I have let the thing run on startup repair over night and a total of 12 straight hours. It reboots once, maybe even twice. Then it just sit a says attempting repairs. I just did a hard shut done. I was able to pull the data off using Uburba (not sure of the spelling). The USB 2.0 is not recognized in start up repair command prompt. I had a image saved to a CD. I can't get past the username password. The one I had wrote down does not work. System restore fails because I can't it doesn't have a .DDL file or it says something. If I could get the USB 2.0 to work I have an external that has a couple of images that would be better than re-installing. I tried moving the image into the computer then using the image restore, but I learned that doesn't work because it somehow tracks were it wrote the image to. This is way I need the usb 2.0 to pull the image from my external HD.What is the default password of HomeGroupUser$?

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I've been having this error even after reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 on my desktop. I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. The problem occurred after I accidentally hit the CPU when I was stretching my foot. The screen froze after that. Upon rebooting it, 'Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter' occurs. After I entered the DVD installer of Windows 7, the screen just hangs.

BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.

However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?

"Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk And And Press Enter"

Jan 24, 2012

I want to do a 'custom' reinstall on my C: drive. It's clogged with unused programs and it runs very slow.I set the BOIS to boot from HD and CD; neither worked. I purchased a new HD and may want to install it as my C: drive.I set the BOIS to boot from CD; still I get the dreaded message:"Disk boot failure insert system disk and and press enter"I recently installed a new mother board due to the fact it was defective, not as an upgrade. To make it clear I already had Win7 Ultimate installed. On my first attempt to perform #1 I got to the question of which install did I want; I clicked 'custom'. From then on nothing happened, and now I keep getting "THE DREADED MESSAGE".I put my win7 disk in another OSXP computer and it displayed, "This disk is not compatible with this system" so I assumed my disc was not corrupt.I bought my win7 disk legally on line a couple of years ago, and I have used it once. Will that be the problem? I never got to the "License key" so I don't see how it could be?
