I am attempting a reinstall on a Toshiba satellite C655, my problem is the DVD/CD player is broken, and when I hook up an external USB DVD player and set boot options to USB, it won't recognize it and bypasses to start up screen. Am I missing something in BIOS?

I've reinstalled Windows 7 prof. x64 twice (for a total of 3 installs). somewhere along the line of installing my standard programs 9all of which work, no issues, ect.) my "turn windows features on and off" box will go blank. I tried figuring out what program triggered this behavior by reinstalling and restarting after every program installed and checking the box. it was a different program that triggered the event from reinstall 1 to reinstall 2. so, that's telling me it's not a specific program that's triggering it. anyway, I don't have 2 hours to reinstall windows and my programs every night, so I'd like to know if there is a workaround (ie registry entries) that I can edit to enable features and programs. from my understanding of how "turn windows features on and off" works, it must only be changing a registry entry or editing a config file that tells the OS not to load those features, as in the documentation, it states that the programs and features are not uninstalled, they're just disabled.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOccasionally, as this PC is booting up, it asks if I want to Start Windows Normally. I press enter for this. However, if I don't do anything, because I am out of the room, it still goes ahead after 15 seconds. In this case, though, I can't operate any of the programs that come up on Windows 7 home edition. When I click on my Firefox browser for example nothing happens. I then have to reboot the PC (switching it off and on) and make sure I'm in front of the PC to press enter when this message comes up. Then all the programs run as normal. Is there any way of stopping it asking me?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen my computer wouldn't turn on in the morning I did the usual diagnostics; unplug things one at time test with spare components etc... Any way I qucikly figured out the PSU was dead so I ordered a new one and was back up and running. However when I reassembled the computer after unplugging everything (and removing the m/b) I plugged the HDDs back into different SATA ports from which they orginally came. When I came to boot the computer up I got the error message: 'BOOTMGR missing' or it may have been 'NTLDR missing' I can't remember.
I fixed this problem by using the 7 startup repair utility. I have no problem booting into Windows 7, but I have lost the option to boot into my XP install on anther disk. I looked in the boot tab under System Configuration and the only OS showing is this Windows 7 install. So my question is this: how can I get the choice of which OS to boot back?
(I should mention that the XP install is on a different disk from the 7 install).
I am trying to install a password recovery cd on laptop. I changed the order in bios but still not giving option too boot from cd. I even logged in as a guest and put an audio cd in .It didnt give option too play. I think its the cd drive. What can I do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Crucial M4 SSD that I'm running windows on and another hard drive I store other files and programs on, lately I've been having problems with windows crashing and upon restarting, my computer will automatically attempt to boot from the other hard drive unless I physically unplug it and the M4 is the only drive plugged in (when I select boot priority in BIOS the SSD is not a listed option to boot to.) Then if I do unplug the other HD and start windows from the SSD, I'm having problems with windows crashing, a couple times I got a blue screen that stated windows crashed and it shut down to save data. I'm not sure if this SSD is taking a dump on me or if I have a problem with windows?

I replaced xp sp3 with Windows 7 7264 x86 ...at first I couldn't login to Windows 7 7127 because the dual boot seemed to be gone. I fixed it using easybcd so now I have dual boot again for 7127 x64 and 7264 x86 .
The problem is that now when I boot 7127 it has a vista boot screen (probabbly because of easybcd not having a Windows 7 option). How can I change it back to the Windows 7 boot screen? Does anyone have any clues?
Compressed C: and my battery on my laptop died while this was compressing. Turned laptop back on Got the error:Bootmgr is compressed..The problem I'm having is that there is no option to boot from CD Drive. My CD drive is listed in my BIO's but when I go to boot options only my HDD is listed.

im trying to install intellitype drivers 6.20 since anything more recent blocks hotkeys through winamp for my keyboard model. and yes these drivers worked "PERFECTLY" fine despite microsoft being dumb about this probably trying to force people to use there newer drivers.
so in short anyone know how to fully disable the compatability assistant which is completly blockign the install of this driver. i suppose i cna install through INFs but that wont install the software part of the driver i believe which enables the few media keys which i enjoy using while in full screen apps.
(for new users to windows 7 - old hands will know this already of course).
If you are the normal / only user of a machine / the user who uses it most you can STILL keep your password but you can enable the Auto logon which will bypass the initial User logon screen where you have to enter a password.
Log On Automatically at Startup
1) Menu ==> Run (or press Windows + R keys)
2) enter control userpassword2
3) click advanced
4) unclick users have to enter a password box
5) enter your user name and password at the box
(You can go the other way too -- click advanced and you can enforce users to press CTRL ALT DEL to logon).
You can still lock the computer of course etc where your password needs to be entered etc - nothing changes there - only the logon.
This can be fine if you need some services to start after you've logged on and you need to RDP remotely after your machine is re-booted.

Well, I have some questions... first, regarding the boot screen when I turn on the computer. I've installed Windows XP SP2 this way: Deleted all the partitions on my hard drive, then did two partitions from the installation program of the CD, then I installed Windows XP in one of the partitions, then I installed Windows 7 in the other partition.
So, I have two SO's running, but, when I turn on the PC only stars with Windows 7. There is no OS selection screen at the very beggining. What could be the problem?
Second, and regarding with graphics. I'm running Win 7 in a HP 530 Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM and this: "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, up to 224-MB shared system memory". When I turn on the slideshow as a Desktop Background, sometimes I see weird lines and the transition is not as smooth. Also, I've installed Warcraft III Frozen Throne and when I play, I see some dark flashes and lines.
This happens because of the "beta" not handling well the GMA 950?? I'm using the drivers that came on with the Windows 7, however, I think I've updated them via Windows Update since it seems that HP and Intel are friends with Bill Gates.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Win 7 sometime around Feb, a dual boot with Win XP. But when I upgraded Win XP to Vista, the option for Win 7 disappeared on the boot screen, and the system would boot straight into Vista. So, I used the Startup repair option from the Win 7, and after rebooting it showed the boot screen with W 7, and Vista. But, after I "repaired" it, Win 7 seems to have lost the Win 7 startup screen. It now shows the "Starting Windows" from Windows Vista, then the Win 7 "welcome" screen.
I realize it's not much of a problem, but is there any way I could get the Win 7 startup screen back?
I created a separate partiton and installed Win 7 fine. It dual booted fine as well. I then renamed the old XP boot partition and this caused the PC to give NTLDR missing and wouldnt boot.
So I reinstalled Win 7 as a custom install and it all boots fine into Win 7 without providing me a dual boot option. I am not too concerned about this as eventually I was going to go completely over to Win 7 anyway
Question I have is
1) The old Win XP boot partition is viewable in explorer. Can I just reformat this and reclaim the space - I want to make sure that the PC is not looking for any files in that old partition
2) Can I delete the Windows.old folder as well
I had Windows 7 7057 & XP running Fine, Dual Boot was working fine
On The Same Disk but different partition:

To install the Windows 7 RC 7100 i've formatted the c: partition and installed on it.
No problems at all during installation. Windows 7 RC is running Fine.
XP is lost, so i've tried to add it to the boot options using EasyBCD 1.7.2, FAILED. Then running as ADMINISTRATOR bcedit.exe:

But when i choose the XP option and Hit the enter key, the system immediately restarts.
i mounted my windows 7 iso with daemon, opened my cmd/disk part window and cleaned, partitioned, formated, and assigned the drive letter and then xcopied my mount to the flash drive, but it wont show up during boot up. i've done this a million times and its worked with this computer. im using the poopy mobo out of the a6430f hp computer. its an asus mobo.

But when restarted I did't get a windows boot manager screen so i could pick if I wish to load Vista or Windows 7, instead my system just loads straight into Vista.
Do I have to enable my system to be able to see the Windows 7 install?
