Windows 7 Crashing - SSD Not Listed As Boot Option In BIOS

Sep 9, 2012

I have a Crucial M4 SSD that I'm running windows on and another hard drive I store other files and programs on, lately I've been having problems with windows crashing and upon restarting, my computer will automatically attempt to boot from the other hard drive unless I physically unplug it and the M4 is the only drive plugged in (when I select boot priority in BIOS the SSD is not a listed option to boot to.) Then if I do unplug the other HD and start windows from the SSD, I'm having problems with windows crashing, a couple times I got a blue screen that stated windows crashed and it shut down to save data. I'm not sure if this SSD is taking a dump on me or if I have a problem with windows?

Trying To Boot From Flash Drive?

Nov 14, 2011

I have had 1000 issues, but i'm going to try and narrow it down. it seems like everytime I try to fix a computer, nothing ever just does what it is supposed to.At the moment I created a boot drive out of my flash drive with windows 7. I set it to boot first on my bios and it loads but hangs up on the first background screen after the windows logo and nothing happens. This info may help. I have two hard drives plugged in (IDE). the master is the one I want to do a clean install of windows. The slave drive already has windows and if I boot from it I can get to the desktop, but the problem is when I try to run the install from it and the computer restarts after the second step in the install for the main HD, it doesn't try to continue the install. Ive been working on this for a week.

Cant Boot From Flash Or DVD Drive

Jan 4, 2010

So I'm trying to format my PC.

I can't boot from my USB flash drive or my DVD.

I've tried using my:

Original Installation Disc which the PC is currently running (Vista x64 OEM) Windows 7 Technet Disc Fresh Ubuntu 9.1 (for testing purposes, also failed to boot)

I've tried:
multiple discs each with a fresh download and burned .iso changing boot priority going through the Boot Menu to select the USB-FDD or CD-ROM options

But the computer boots right through each of the medias.

I can see that my USB and DVD-rom drive are both lighting up.. during before the screen launches to the big Windows Vista logo screen.

Can anybody suggest what I should do?

Fan Option In BIOS?

Nov 25, 2012

There are 2 options in the BIOS for my laptop fan:Silent and Normal.Right now, it is running under option 1 - "Silent".This may well be the reason why I don't hear any sound of the fan (unlike my other laptop that has a relatively noisy fan coming ON and OFF from time to time).Do I need to switch to "Normal" mode? Will there be any problem in the long run if I stay with the existing setting? The touchpad area and its vicinity are sometimes hot (not too much though) under the current setting. Has this anything to do with that BIOS option for the fan?

Can't Boot USB 3.0 Flash Drive From USB 3 Port

get a USB 3.0 flash drive to boot from a 3.0 port?I made a bootable ADATA 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive using LIli. Also used Yumi to make bootable flash drive. Either way it will not boot when plugged in a USB 3 port.It does not show up using BBS popup(F8). Nor does it show up in the bios.It will boot when plugged in a USB 2.0 port. Also, I can make a bootable USB 2.0 flash drive and can boot from it when plugged in 3.0 port. It shows up in the bios and the BBS popup. I have tried everything possible. No luck. I'm stumped. I have the latest bios and driver for this Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller.

How To Remove Boot Area From Flash Drive

One of them was temporarily used to create an Ubuntu Live stick, but now that I removed Ubuntu from it about 32Mb remain used and I assume there is some bootable info in it, as Windows 7 is no longer booting with this stick inserted. I have tried formatting but this does not help. Is there a way to wipe the USB stick clean and remove any boot sector info?

Flash Drive Not Recognized When Trying To Boot Win7

Oct 28, 2009

I've created the ISO file and moved it to the 4g drive using the AWESOME guide found here. However, the BIOS doesn't seem to recognize that the device is present. I've done some research and found that some usb drives aren't compatible with the BIOS? I made usb storage the only available boot option and nothing showed up.

However when I look at the drive while in Vista through my computer->G: It shows up as a windows system. I've also seen somewhere about enabling "Legacy usb"? I didn't find anything like that. Should I just got buy another flash drive and try again?

Setting Up Dual Boot On A Flash Drive

Dec 2, 2009

[Solved] Setting up Dual Boot on a flash drive that isn't always plugged in. I have windows 7 Home Premium installed on my desktop but I was hoping for a way to set up an installation of Windows XP on a 16GB flash drive that I have.

Not even thinking I just figured I would give it a try and I booted to my Windows XP disc and installed all of the files to the flash drive. Well needless to say it messed up my MBR and then wouldn't boot to the flash drive or to my internal hard drives anymore.

I was able to fix it by using the Windows 7 disc to repair startup but I still am not able to boot to Windows XP on the flash drive.

Is there any way to do this? I know I need to make some changes to the bootloader but I'm not sure exactly what to do. Is there a way to make it so it will automatically boot Windows 7 unless I put the flash drive in first and prompt it to as the computer starts up?

Boot To BIOS And From External Disc But Not From Hard Drive

Oct 11, 2012

My Acer netbook has developed some kind of fault and I am unsure as to what I ought to do. The netbook does boot to BIOS and also will boot up from an external drive...but will not boot normally. I am thinking of replacing the hard drive but don't know if there could be something else wrong. It says sometimes that it can't read it and from this I am not sure if there is something else wrong. If I change the drive does it sound as though things will work? There are also a couple of other intermittent faults such as certain letters and numbers not working and then everything is fine for a while...

Windows 7 Folder Option Reverts Back To Read Only

Aug 25, 2011

I am using win7 64 bit operating system. Also using microsoft office 2007 (home and school) and have recently run in to this issue. I can go through and edit an ms office file , I can edit it but when I try to save it I'm blocked because 'file is a read only' . If I rename the file I can save but then the renamed saved file becomes read only. Sure enough the word file 's properties show that it is read only. A check of folder options also shows that folders and therefore contents? are also read only.

Unchecking the read only box in properties does not work. You can uncheck the box and apply change but when you reopen folder its back to read only. Don't know if this is an office prob or a win 7 prob. Its really a problem when editing and saving a file with office. Also it is not consistent - sometimes it is all files in a folder that are office files sometimes only a few and , not often, and once the problem disappeared. Its strange.

BIOS Disk Error - Resetting Boot Priority To Correct Drive?

Jan 27, 2012

When there is a Restart required after a software upgrade, the BIOS on my system (Win 7/64) will go to an external HDD (I have three for storage and backup). If I force it off and go into the BIOS on startup, it will show any of the other three HDD's in the boot priority. I reset the priority to the correct drive, save and start (repeat this process several times) and finally it will start from the correct HDD. I thought it might be the CMOS battery but with a new battery in place I still ran into this. This system (HP desktop) is less than a year old.

Disc Read Error Bios Windows 7?

Apr 13, 2011

odd prob with disc read error. So about once a month my cpu has a disc read error, this will last about a week as I try everything to fix it. Then, out of no where, runs perfect. Last time this happened, I thought I would think ahead and installed another copy of windows 7 on a D: and test it. ran perfect. So this time it happened, I tried to boot off D: and same problem, disc read error, reboot.Disconnected my C: drive and same prob with new windows install. I have tried windows install disc and recovery disc along with all utilities and full backup disc image. Still nothing... then just when I give up, It runs fine. it seems to stay glitchy the first few reboots but then works perfect for about 1-3 months
