Desktop runs Windows 7 (64bit) Laptop runs XP (32 bit)I have programs on my laptop that I want to be able to run on my desktop. Programs that I no longer have install information/CD keys for. I have no trouble making partitions. A 'clean' install of XP onto the partition allows me to dual boot flawlessly using EasyBCD.What i *want* to do is be able to 'clone' my XP drive to the partition to be able to run those programs.
How to make pen drive as bootable.I tried with several open source applications but I am getting target device not found.my system USB and pendrive both are working condition.
I have a computer with two drives, both of them have a licensed version of Windows 7 installed. My problem is that the boot dirve is installed on the large hard drive (1 TB) and I need be able to boot off of my small ssd drive so that I can replace the 1 TB with a 3 TB. how can i make ssd drive bootable with out re-installing windows and redoing all of my settings, and programs.
I had XP and Vista installed on my primary SATA hard drive (on SATA0 channel). There was no space for another operating system, so I added a secondary hard drive (to SATA2 channel) and installed Windows 7 to it. It worked perfectly. After a few weeks my old primary hard drive suddenly died, and the computer doesn't boot anymore. So I put the remaining live hard drive to SATA0 channel, and bought another new SATA drive and put it to SATA2 channel. Now I need to add boot files to my drive, because both operating system and data files are there, I just need to let the computer start.
So I have one good healthy SATA drive, Windows 7 installed on it, but without boot files, because that other (now dead) drive was used to start up the computer. I though that Windows 7 Installation DVD will help, but it doesn't. When I try to use its repair disk feature, it fails to find any installed Windows, so it says there's nothing to boot to, nothing to reapir. If I use the command line utility from the same DVD, I can see both my C: and D: partitions are there, with all files, I can see all my directories, I can see Windows folder, Program Files folder etc. But what does it need to boot?
I also tried "upgrade" from W7 Installation DVD, but it says that I should run this option from inside Windows. Since I cannot start the Windows, this option isn't for me. When I tried a new fresh installation, I got a warning that all my current data will be overwritten, and that also isn't option I am searching for.

I am having 500gb usb hardisk in which i had create a partition of 10gb and i want to create that partition bootable with windows 7 pls tellme what to do there are many ways given to make harddisk bootable but its for complete harddisk not for selected partition.
I just received my new Corsair 16GB Survivor Stealth USB Flashdrive. Is it possible to make the USB drive bootable...yet still able to store regular files (word docs, pictures, mp3's etc.) without compromising the ability to make it boot if needed? If so what is the best way to go about making this happen? (I already know how to make a flash drive a dedicated bootable).
When I installed windows 7 64 Ultimate I set up a multiboot machine from within Vista, I installed windows 7 and Ubuntu on separate hard drives (one HD per OS). The boot menu is on the Vista drive. All drives are SATA.I soon formatted the Ubuntu drive and removed the option to boot to it. My Vista OS no longer boots, it just hangs whilst loading so I want to format that drive now and just use Windows 7. However, I have tried removing all the hard drives apart from the windows 7 one and I find that this will not boot.i would like to make the windows 7 drive bootable but I am not sure how to do this.I have tried removing all the HD's apart from the none booting windows 7 HD and putting in the Windows 7 disk and carrying out the option to repair start up (not sure exactly what this was called) several times but this does not make any difference. It just prompts me to restart the machine and boots again from the DVD.
I have been having many problems with my old hardcover and after finding out it was the source of all my problems I decided to go out and buy myself a new hard drive today,It is a 3.5" internal sata 2
7200 rpm 32 mb cache From intenso
My motherboard has two sata slots, I managed to install windows on my new hard drive through the files saved onto my other hard rive. Windows is successfully installed on my hard rive but I have to keep the old one in to boot from, is there a way to create a partition on my new Hardrive to boot from so I can unplug my old hard drive as it takes up the slot where my DVD drive should go.
when I install window 8...so the existing window 7 files moved into D drive(which was in c drive previously). so window 8 files are in C drive. so when I starting my computer only window 8 is booting....window 7 is not booting....bcoz D drive not bootable. so what can do I do? I want solution so that both windows work..
I just recently bought a new motherboard (old one died), and didn't realize that it had no IDE port on it for easy Windows 7 re-installation (my only available dvd drive is still IDE). After trying to find a friend with one, I ended up trying to make a bootable thumb drive using the Windows 7 bootable USB drive utility and my father's computer, and every single time I've tried to do it, it gives an error right at the end about bootsect.exe saying it isn't bootable.
Asus P5QL-VM, Intel Core 2 Duo q9300, 4gb (2x2gb) ram, seagate SATA hard drive of some sort, GEForce 9800GTX+ gpu.
I'm trying to make an external hard drive bootable without losing any data that's already stored on it, if possible and use it to install Windows 7 on my computer, I'm currently running XP.
As currently configured, XP is on drive C:, Win 7 was added to drive E:, and the system is currently run as a dual boot. Attempting to boot without the XP drive present will yield a "NTLDR is missing" error very early in the boot process.
I have already tried the following:
(1) I moved the hidden Windows Boot Manager files (bootmgr as well as the associated Boot folder) from the XP drive root to the Win 7 drive root.
(2) After physically removing the XP drive, I rebooted to the Win 7 installation DVD, and used the "Repair Your Computer" option to pull up the "Recovery Tools". Then, using the command prompt utility, ...
(3) I attempted to write a new boot sector to the Windows 7 disk using the command: Bootrec /fixboot, - that yields an error though. The Bootrec /fixmbr claimed success, but ultimately did not make Win 7 drive bootable.
I had to reconnect drive C: just to boot into Win 7 again to write this. I do have files backed up, but to format and reinstall files would take many hours beyond just the time to transfer 400 GB of data, since I have dozens of purchased applications that need to be freshly reinstalled and validated as well. Basically I want my E: drive now to be my boot drive while the C: drive is reformatted and used for general storage.
Any idea how to make my Win 7 drive bootable? Do I need a partition program that is more adept at creating a viable boot sector, or is that even the problem?
I currently have a disc copy of windows 7 and I am currently running it as my main OS as well. I was wondering just in case my computer decides to have a few issues is there anyway I can make a data partition to store windows 7 or put it on a flash drive so that in the incident of a hardware failure I would be able to go into my bios and boot the recovery partition or boot it from a flash drive allowing me to reinstall the OS.
In all my years of tweaking now i still have never made a RAM drive(the fact that i never had enough spare RAM to do so) I have now had 8GB for awhile now and pretty much 4GB of it is never in use. I would like to make a RAM drive for firefox and try that out.
I have windows 7 x64 installed, and need to copy that partition to another partition on the same drive, and be able to boot between the two using EasyBCD. One will be normal/office stuff, the other will be music production stuff.I copied the partition (C) using Acronis (bootCD mode) no problem, then copied that Acronis clone to the new partition (D). Booted back in to windows and used EasyBCD to add the new partition (D) to the boot menu with a new name. Now when I boot I get the boot choices as expected, but no matter which one I choose, it always boots into the original partition (C)? I've used EasyBCD quite a bit before without problems but this one is driving me nuts.
My problem is I have installed lion in one partition and cloned my windows to other partition. In GPT, Lion booting properly, but clonned system reserved and windows are unable to boot. If if use repair disc, it says not the proper version. ( created from the running windows). I don't have installation disc for windows ( home premium). I want to make the windows bootable.
I have a simple xp 32 computer and would like to dual boot (from a partition) with windows 7. my problem seems to lie in whether i have enable my usb to be bootable as a dvd install of windows 7. it seems very complicated, and i am interested in figuring out whether it was possible to simply create the partition (with gpart) than in windows mount windows 7 and when it asks where it wants to be installed, I would than chose my new partition.
I don't know... (don't want to screw up) I hope this makes sense...
I really would like to try widows 7, and any help would be very much appreciated .
I am running XP on a SATA HDD. I have installed Win 7 on a second partition with some problems. The main problem was random BSOD's. This I believe, I have traced back to the fact that the MoBo runs Nvidia chips. Have downloaded the updated Nvidia Win 7 chip drivers. So, I uninstalled Win 7 and removed boot loader via BCDEDIT.
What I would now like to try is to install Win 7 on a separate IDE HDD connected to the primary IDE controller. This is so I can sort out the Nvidia driver problem.
I can see problems with this. My questions are the following: What will I set the IDE HDD to be, Master or Slave? Then boot off DVD/ROM and then install Win 7 as normal onto IDE HDD. If yes, I take it that the Windows 7 bootloader will not be installed on the XP SATA HDD. If this is the case then I should be able to use EasyBCD to add the XP on the SATA HDD. Most critical part of the whole deal will be to set the SATA HDD (with XP) to boot FIRST. I have been down this track before and the MoBo sets the IDE as Drive 0 (FIRST boot HDD).
I know that there is a simple answer to this. I just cannot see the forest for the trees at present.
I have windows XP pro 32 bit installed in C drive and then installed clean win 7 64bit in drive D. Everything works properly but when I boot from XP, it is in C drive and I see Windows 7 in D drive, when I boot from Windows 7, I see win 7 in C and winXP in D drive. Is it normal or is there any I can do to fix win Xp in C and Windows 7 in D?
I have several HDD and one SSD. The SSD was my boot "C" drive and single win 7 OS. The SSD failed so I installed Win 7 on one of the back-up HDD. The install made that drive "C". I replaced the SSD and installed WIn 7 as a second OS on the SSD and it became drive "B". I can boot to either OS install on start-up but regardless of which install I boot with, drive "C" becomes the active system drive, even though the desktops are different (as they shoujld be for the two OS installs). SO, even if I boot from the SSD "B" drive, in windows disk manamgent it indicates that "C" is the "system" and "active" drive while it will indicate that "B" is the "boot" drive.
I want to format drive C so I can change its drive letter and reinstall Win 7 as a single OS to the SSD and make it drive "C", but windows will not let me change drive letters or format the current HDD labeled as "C" - obviously because it considers it the active sytem drive even when I've booted from the "B" SSD.
I'm currently running 32-bit Windows 7 (Professional, full version) on my laptop, and want to use this machine to create a bootable USB drive with 64-bit Windows 7 (also Professional, full version). I tried going through the steps that are available on various tutorials online, but I'm always tripped up while attempting to use bootsect to make the drive bootable; basically I get an error saying that I need to be using a 64-bit OS.
I don't have convenient access to a computer with 64-bit Windows Vista/7 (I work at an academic institution where all pubic computers have XP or Linux), so I'm wondering if there's any way to get around this and create a bootable USB for 64-bit Windows 7 via a 32-bit OS.
I installed Windows 7 on my D: drive and it was only 80GB, and had everything running to my satisfaction. Started adding a few programs from my Vista install and thought the drive was to small, so cloned the drive unto a backup drive and installed a 1TB drive. Cloned the image back unto the new drive, but when I try to dual boot, it doesn't see Windows 7. I tried booting from the Windows 7 disk, to do a startup repair, but it doesn't see Windows 7 installed on the new drive.
Someone want to explain how the hell you make a bootable ISO from these leaked builds?
Everything I try is FUBAR.
Edit: Okay..nevermind..I Frankenstein it and figured it out finally..I just copied the install files onto my USB flash drive and rebooted and set to boot to USB drive.
No need for an ISO
Edit 2: ...Okay..I give up..I get an error during install saying Windows can't install the required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. bla bla
Anyone else getting this with the 32bit leaked copy that just came out?
Maybe it's a stupid question,but I can't figure it out how...?
At this moment,I have Win 7 buil 7000 32 bit installed,and I want install x64 version,so I have downloaded Windows 7 build 7048 x64,but it's not a bootable ISO file.
I managed to make an ISO,but have never did and don't know how to make a bootable ISO file,I have already tried several programs(PowerISO,MagicDisc,ImgBurn,Nero 8),but every time I burn an image on disc,it doesn't work.
If there is someone who is willling to explain me correct way step by step,I'll be really greatful.
I downloaded OFFICIAL Windows 7, but there is no ISO file so how do I make it bootable? There is a setup.exe file but since i have VISTA 32 bit i cannot clean install to W7 64 . So what do I do?
I installed Win 7 to a SataIII drive/port with the intention of doing a bootable clone to a SataII drive/port. However on completion of the first install I realised that my cloning software was not capable of cloning the SRP (system reserved partition)Plan B ? Installed a second copy of Win 7 to the SataII drive/port on a single partition (no SRP) with the intention of cloning over the SataIII drive to eliminate the SRPWas hesitant to do this as the clone software wipes the SataIII drive so as a tester I cloned the SataII drive with the single partition to a spare SataII drive and it copied ok. Unfortunately when I disconnected the SataIII and SataII source drive the recently cloned spare SataII drive would not boot. The boot manager prompts the user to accept either of the two installed versions of Win 7 and whichever you nominate the spare SataII drive fails to boot. I installed the Win 7 repair disc to fix the start up but it displayed a message that it was unable to fix it.
