Boot Files Were Missing

Oct 30, 2009

Recently I installed Windows 7 x64 RTM on my 500gb, on my 320gb I had XP and build 7600 x32 running, I decided to format my 320gb as i was switching over x64 (formatted using windows 7 disc), The OS refused to boot claiming boot files were missing, after running startup repair a few times it was fixed.

Now when I try remove my 320gb it refuses to boot and claims boot files are missing, having a look at my 320gb in computer management I see it has a second partition called system reserved, which has bootmgr and other files in it, so it seems windows 7 installed on my 500gb but put all the boot info on my 320gb, how do i create a boot section/folder on my 500gb so I dont have to keep my 320gb in my pc?

Windows 7 HP Boot Files Missing Or Corrupt

Sep 17, 2011

I have an Advent Roma 2001 configured, in PC World style, with a "recovery partition" alongside the system partition and, after resolving a hard disk problem, I found that the machine would not start/boot Windows 7. clearly some necessary files are missing or corrupted, but the normal system recovery tools have not solved the problem(s). I'm familiar with the process for resurrecting XP, but not its counterpart for Windows 7 the files and steps for doing this are rather different. it would seem that pretty much everything else is in place on the hard disk, but certain recovery programs report "0" Windows installations when Win 7 is still in place where it was before the disk problem, e.g. it is available to be selected by the main recovery/startup program...this prog can "see" it, but can't access/boot it.I can breathe some life into this anaesthetised device sooner rather than later...I may as well work my way through the whole lot rather than using a trial and error method that might take a long time.

"boot Disk Is Missing Files"

Aug 11, 2012

my problem for installing Windows 7 Home Basic for Netbooks via a 16GB SanDisk Flashdrive formatted in FAT if im not mistaken. I have a copy of the ISO on my DataCenter, and I have used my MacBook Pro (2.66 GHz 8GB RAM, 500G HDD, Intel Core i7 Late 2010), to create a usb boot disk to install Windows 7 on 2 netbooks (Working on one of them now, ASUS 1005HA, Intel(R) Atom CPU N270 @1.60GHz, with 1024MB of RAM) I have had no luck transferring the iso to a Windows PC to properly create the boot disk so I resorted to do it on my Mac. Before, when I transferred the .iso to a Sony Vaio to make it up there, the install couldn't get past 35% without saying "the boot disk is missing files, please check to make sure all installation files are on the boot disk."

So I did it on my Mac and have gotten past the first 4 check marks on the Windows 7 Installation until it gets to installing features, and then it gave me the error (I don't remember the code) of Windows could not set the offline locale infromation. I have never encountered this error when installing with my Windows 7 Home Basic for Netbooks disc before, and I don't know what the problem is. I tried re-formatting the internal HDD disk, and re-installing again, but at about 25% of installing Windows, it gave me the error from before of "boot disk is missing files" I am a fluent Windows user and have done many installs via Optical Drive with the ISO on a disc, but I am having no luck with a flash-drive. So I am wondering about 3 different things.

1. Is it possibly the formatting of the USB flash-drive, and do I need to re-format it to possibly FAT-32 or NTFS, to create a proper boot disk.

2. Is it possibly, somewhere along my travels with my DataCenter and moving the Windows 7 HB .iso file, that it became corrupt, and I need to somehow make or find a new .iso file for my edition of Windows 7

3. Is it possible the HDD inside both of the netbook's is corrupt (which I find somewhat unlikely since both of them are producing this error.)

Bootmgr.exe Missing... Mpio.sys Missing Or Corrupted. Unable To Boot?

Oct 28, 2011

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

Cannot Boot Into Windows 7 / File /boot/BCD Is Missing With An Error Code Of 0x0000007

Mar 26, 2011

I cannot boot into Windows because it says that the file /boot/BCD is missing with an error code of 0x0000007. If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. The items it wants to repair are: " The following startup option will be repaired:Name: {bootmgr}Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows 7 Ultimate (recovered)
Path: Windows
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)
Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recovery9426aa67-30ff-11e0-a348-506313b5e718Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as C:BootBCD.Backup.0002"If I click yes, it says that it cannot save the current settings for the BCD and refuses to continue. When I choose Startup Repair, it attempts to fix the problem but fails.

The problem details are:

Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code: 0x3bc3

I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.

I tried running a few commands, namely:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.

Boot Manager Missing / Boot From USB Drive

For some odd reason, after doing some changes to my partitions in Windows 7 and restarting my computer, I got the ol' "BOOTMGR is missing" message. Is there any way that I can put the image file onto my USB Flash Drive and boot from it with my Acer Aspire X1200 desktop computer?

Program Files Gone (not Missing)?

Sep 29, 2011

Norton, malwarebytes, and spybot have all come up with nothing whatsoever, all fully updated. The laptop was running slow, so the user attempted to run Norton for a virus scan. Halfway through the scan, norton crashed. The user looked into the Norton program files to see that the directory folder was completely empty. He then called me.I attempted to uninstall norton, but windows wouldn't allow the uninstall. The program showed up on the list of installed programs, but upon clicking "uninstall", nothing would happen. So, I downloaded and installed RevoUninstaller and used it to remove Norton. I left the registry unchanged, and only deleted the temporary files and remaining program directory. The computer asked me to reboot.

Upon rebooting, every single file in my program files AND in my program files x86 are gone. Desktop links are all broken, and ask to be deleted when double clicking. When I go into the uninstall program list, all the programs are listed, but error when I attempt to uninstall or change them. The laptop is running Windows 7 pro x64, and I am currently copying program files from previous versions into the present directory to see if this fixes the problem, and will update accordingly

Missing Well Over 1000 Files?

Jun 22, 2011

I am missing well over 1000 files. A good deal of those are .gif files. When I go to the child folder they were in, it is empty as are all the child folders. When I use Windows Search to search the parent folder for *.gif, the results show 1000 of the files in the child folder they were in. They appear with the Irfanview icon, which is the default viewer and a .gif extension. They are way too small, < 1 kb. Irfanview cant open them, "...cant read the file header. unknown file format or file not found." I admit Im fried enough to have some how, possibly, maybe deleted a whole folder while doing a clean up, but it is still there and I cant possibly imagine selecting that many files and doing anything with all of them

IE 9 Works, But Is Missing From Program Files?

When I click the IE icon in the tray, IE9 opens up and works just fine, but it does not show up in program files, does not show up when I try to find it in an uninstall program, and does not show up in any history of updates. What I would like to do is remove and reinstall, then do the appropriate updates.Would I be safe just installing over the current invisible installation?A second strange issue is that Kapersky says it is installed and functioning, but Windows says it is turned off[CODE]

Winsxs Folder Missing Files?

May 16, 2012

I ran an Avast! virus scan because my computer was slowing down (significantly). It found 91 infected files. All in the winsxs folder. I then deleted them. I really really really shouldn't have. Now, Windows Update will not work (error codes 80073712, and 80070002). One of my games will not work, and several other applications will not work (usually with a "missing gdiplus.dll" type error).I tried a system restore, but there was no option to restore to a point prior to the date I deleted the files. sfc /scannow in the cmd did not fix the problem. I tried restoring the individual folders in winsxs but they don't have an early enough version either.I tried using a file undeleter to see if I could recover the missing .dll files. When I tried to run the program, I got a missing .dll file error. No they're not in the recycling bin. Basically they're absolutely nowhere on my computer.

Lost Files/Missing JPEGs?

Jan 29, 2011

I cant be positive that this is solely a Windows 7 issue, considering that files can get lost all the time on any system but, just recently, a good majority of my jpeg picture files have randomly disappeared. There are a few folders that are still in the usual place (Pictures Folder). As for the missing folders, they would appear after I use the computer search, however, when I try to open them, I get a pop-up that states that the shortcut has been modified/moved and my only option is whether or not I want to delete it. I looked under Recent Docs and the missing files show up; the latest one thats been modified was earlier this month when it was still accessible. I've even tried a system restore (from before the modification dates) and the Unerasure program, which I found out the hard way is a total sham. Is there any way to recover these? I really don't want to lose a chunk of nostalgia

Missing Files And Pictures In Folders?

Jun 2, 2011

I am running Windows 7 and have various Folders on the C drive, including Pictures (C://Pictures). When I open it the folders and pictures are not there yet when I right click and look at Properties it tells me there is 17.7Gb of files. I thought I had resolved the issue by going back to the restore point for the main folder (C://Pictures) and indeed they became visible again. On checking the folder this morning they have gone again. I have the same problem with my (C://Users Documents) folder - clicking on Properties tells me there are 697Mb of docuemnts but 'hovering' the cursor I'm told only 497Mb are there & the missing folders and documents are not visible.

The problem began after picking up malware which I have successfully removed from the machine at the weekend. I did use the Restore Points to successfully restore a music folder as the same problem occurred and it is still there! The Restore Point I used has now 'moved on' so I am unable to use this facility.

This time however, when I go to my windows.old >> users file my old user account isnt there, while the public account is. I checked my disk usage and the whopping 129gb chunk of information that was my user account still exists somewhere, taking up space in a place I cant see. Furthurmore, I unticked the 'read only' box in the file properties of the whole windows.old file and while watching the names of all the affected subfolder and files whip by I caught glances of windows.old/user/xxxxx/music, pictures etc. So theyre obviously still there, just in a much less digitally tangible way. Missing MP3 Files In Media Center

I tried moving the renamed files to a different directory and then adding that new directory to Media Center. I'd like to learn how Media Center indexes files and how to manipulate the index. Also I understand mp3 files have tags on them to hold information.

1.) How do you manipulate the Media Center file index?
2.) What would you do to force Media Center to find the missing mp3 files?
3.) Where can I find more information on how tags work in mp3 files?

Mp3 Files Missing From Music Folder?

Mar 31, 2012

Suddenly, this morning, all my individual mp3 files contained in the "My Music" folder have disappeared. What's interesting is that folders in the "My Music" folder with mp3 files inside have not disappeared. Just the individual ones outside.

Last night (12 hours ago) all the files were intact. I haven't installed anything, my computer is not infected with anything (as far as I know) and I haven't moved or deleted anything.

I've run "undelete plus" to check if some of the files could be recovered, and the most intriguing thing of it all is that is has found some of the files missing, inside a folder called "Deleted 2342323" (can't remember the exact name) in C:. That folder doesn't exist at all (and I'm running with administrator permissions).

But really, after 16 years using windows this is the first time that such a thing happens
