"boot Disk Is Missing Files"

Aug 11, 2012

my problem for installing Windows 7 Home Basic for Netbooks via a 16GB SanDisk Flashdrive formatted in FAT if im not mistaken. I have a copy of the ISO on my DataCenter, and I have used my MacBook Pro (2.66 GHz 8GB RAM, 500G HDD, Intel Core i7 Late 2010), to create a usb boot disk to install Windows 7 on 2 netbooks (Working on one of them now, ASUS 1005HA, Intel(R) Atom CPU N270 @1.60GHz, with 1024MB of RAM) I have had no luck transferring the iso to a Windows PC to properly create the boot disk so I resorted to do it on my Mac. Before, when I transferred the .iso to a Sony Vaio to make it up there, the install couldn't get past 35% without saying "the boot disk is missing files, please check to make sure all installation files are on the boot disk."

So I did it on my Mac and have gotten past the first 4 check marks on the Windows 7 Installation until it gets to installing features, and then it gave me the error (I don't remember the code) of Windows could not set the offline locale infromation. I have never encountered this error when installing with my Windows 7 Home Basic for Netbooks disc before, and I don't know what the problem is. I tried re-formatting the internal HDD disk, and re-installing again, but at about 25% of installing Windows, it gave me the error from before of "boot disk is missing files" I am a fluent Windows user and have done many installs via Optical Drive with the ISO on a disc, but I am having no luck with a flash-drive. So I am wondering about 3 different things.

1. Is it possibly the formatting of the USB flash-drive, and do I need to re-format it to possibly FAT-32 or NTFS, to create a proper boot disk.

2. Is it possibly, somewhere along my travels with my DataCenter and moving the Windows 7 HB .iso file, that it became corrupt, and I need to somehow make or find a new .iso file for my edition of Windows 7

3. Is it possible the HDD inside both of the netbook's is corrupt (which I find somewhat unlikely since both of them are producing this error.)

Boot Files Were Missing

Oct 30, 2009

Recently I installed Windows 7 x64 RTM on my 500gb, on my 320gb I had XP and build 7600 x32 running, I decided to format my 320gb as i was switching over x64 (formatted using windows 7 disc), The OS refused to boot claiming boot files were missing, after running startup repair a few times it was fixed.

Now when I try remove my 320gb it refuses to boot and claims boot files are missing, having a look at my 320gb in computer management I see it has a second partition called system reserved, which has bootmgr and other files in it, so it seems windows 7 installed on my 500gb but put all the boot info on my 320gb, how do i create a boot section/folder on my 500gb so I dont have to keep my 320gb in my pc?

Windows 7 HP Boot Files Missing Or Corrupt

Sep 17, 2011

I have an Advent Roma 2001 configured, in PC World style, with a "recovery partition" alongside the system partition and, after resolving a hard disk problem, I found that the machine would not start/boot Windows 7. clearly some necessary files are missing or corrupted, but the normal system recovery tools have not solved the problem(s). I'm familiar with the process for resurrecting XP, but not its counterpart for Windows 7 the files and steps for doing this are rather different. it would seem that pretty much everything else is in place on the hard disk, but certain recovery programs report "0" Windows installations when Win 7 is still in place where it was before the disk problem, e.g. it is available to be selected by the main recovery/startup program...this prog can "see" it, but can't access/boot it.I can breathe some life into this anaesthetised device sooner rather than later...I may as well work my way through the whole lot rather than using a trial and error method that might take a long time.

Best Boot Disk That Will Allow To Copy Files From HD To External Drive Before Refresh?

Jan 4, 2012

I had an issue where Windows 7 would not boot anymore, getting error, BOOTMGR missing, Press Alt-Ctrl-Del to restart. I have tried to repair with windows disk but still getting error. I have decided that I want to just do a reinstall but I want to get on and export my favorites and grab a couple other things. I used to have a CD that I could use to boot up with (Think it was called Barts Boot Disk, Been too long) to get into Windows XP and do a couple things. My question is, is what is the best boot disk that will allow me to copy files from the HD to my external drive before I refresh?

Bootmgr.exe Missing... Mpio.sys Missing Or Corrupted. Unable To Boot?

Oct 28, 2011

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Oct 13, 2010

I've been having this error even after reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 on my desktop. I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. The problem occurred after I accidentally hit the CPU when I was stretching my foot. The screen froze after that. Upon rebooting it, 'Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter' occurs. After I entered the DVD installer of Windows 7, the screen just hangs.

BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Feb 17, 2010

I have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.

However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk

Sep 5, 2011

When starting the computer, I keep getting "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". Nothing works other than putting in the boot disk and hitting the restart button on the tower. Then it will boot up and run fine. But how do I stop it from having to have the disk in order to load? Checked in the BIOS and the hard drive is the first load.

Cannot Boot Into Windows 7 / File /boot/BCD Is Missing With An Error Code Of 0x0000007

Mar 26, 2011

I cannot boot into Windows because it says that the file /boot/BCD is missing with an error code of 0x0000007. If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. The items it wants to repair are: " The following startup option will be repaired:Name: {bootmgr}Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows 7 Ultimate (recovered)
Path: Windows
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)
Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recovery9426aa67-30ff-11e0-a348-506313b5e718Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as C:BootBCD.Backup.0002"If I click yes, it says that it cannot save the current settings for the BCD and refuses to continue. When I choose Startup Repair, it attempts to fix the problem but fails.

The problem details are:

Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code: 0x3bc3

I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.

I tried running a few commands, namely:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.

Well I have been trying to fix this error for hours And after the system recovery scan it says there are problems with my start up options but I cant hit those buttons because the s2 keyboard I have in simply wont let me. Secondly I have ran the repair tool but it says I have to manually fix this problem so I tried using the command prompt but to my great luck again I cant get to that option because of my keyboard so I think the real question here is what do I have to do to my keyboard to land over all of the settings?

"Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk And And Press Enter"

Jan 24, 2012

I want to do a 'custom' reinstall on my C: drive. It's clogged with unused programs and it runs very slow.I set the BOIS to boot from HD and CD; neither worked. I purchased a new HD and may want to install it as my C: drive.I set the BOIS to boot from CD; still I get the dreaded message:"Disk boot failure insert system disk and and press enter"I recently installed a new mother board due to the fact it was defective, not as an upgrade. To make it clear I already had Win7 Ultimate installed. On my first attempt to perform #1 I got to the question of which install did I want; I clicked 'custom'. From then on nothing happened, and now I keep getting "THE DREADED MESSAGE".I put my win7 disk in another OSXP computer and it displayed, "This disk is not compatible with this system" so I assumed my disc was not corrupt.I bought my win7 disk legally on line a couple of years ago, and I have used it once. Will that be the problem? I never got to the "License key" so I don't see how it could be?

Partition (E Drive) Missing - Does Not Appear In Windows Disk Management Tool

May 26, 2012

In my Sister's laptop, running Windows 7 Ultimate x86, all of a sudden, while she was working on the computer, the "E drive" went missing which was a partition on the hard disk (I don't remember if it was a logical or primary partition). She tried restarting the system but to no avail. So, I told her to open the "Disk management" tool in Windows 7 to see if the partition is visible in there. I did this because sometimes, in my computer, my expansion drive wouldn't show but it would be visible in the disk management tool and all I had to do was to re-assign it a drive letter. But, in this case, it wasn't visible over there.

So, now I told her to download "Mini-Tool Partition manager Home edition" and install it on her laptop. On running it, it wouldn't show the partition either. It would just show "C:", "D", "System Reserved" and unallocated space. However, when I added up the size displayed by C:, D:, System Reserved and Unallocated, it doesn't add up to the actual hard disk size. It means the partition is somewhere there but not visible. Is it possible that the partition would show up correctly if the laptop is booted into the bootable image of Mini-Tool Partition Manager?
