Oct 22, 2009I get a message that I cannot install Windows 7 uograge to my HP laptop which is running Vista. I get a messsage that files are missing but no explanation of what files are missing.

Message: You Have To Uninstall Drivers To Update Them
Aug 22, 2009I remember a few years back, when I used Windows XP, that driver updating was sort of troublesome -- sometimes you had to completely remove the older version of the driver to install the newer, and so on.
But.. once I installed Vista, I never really had to deal with that. My NVIDIA drivers always updated properly without uninstalling them first.
Now, I hear people still using programs that entirely erase all traces of a previous driver.. why do they still use those? I don't believe you have to use them anymore to update drivers..
If you install, for example, the latest NVIDIA driver -- the installer erases the previous driver from your system, then installs the new driver.
I think people are living in the past when I hear: "I'm uninstalling my current drivers right now, then I'm gonna run a sweeper to erase all traces of it. Then I have to reboot, and install the updated driver. Then reboot again."
Message - BOOTMGR Is Missing
Nov 18, 2009I recently installed 7 and it came up with the message BOOTMGR is missing. hit ctrl alt delete to restart. i did the setup repair but it doesnt work, also if i try to boot the disc it automatically starts the operating system from my hard drive and all is well until i restart again.

Apr 5, 2009I just finished installing Windows 7 x64 7068. This PC already has XP on a different drive (not just different partition). The Windows 7 drive is set to boot first in BIOS.
After the first reboot I got the "BOOTMGR is missing, ctrl+alt+del to restart" message. If I boot with the XP drive, there is an option for Windows 7 and I can log on with that.
I used the startup repair tool on Windows 7 DVD but it did not detect any problem. Tried easyBCD to reinstall the Vista bootloader but that didn't fix it either.
How can I fix this? And how should I install Windows 7 so that each drive can boot on its own? I can select which drive to boot quickly after POST so I don't want the 2 OSes to tangle up like that.
Missing OS Error Message?
Sep 15, 2011In my haste to try out the Windows 8 preview, I made a new partition. However, When it warned me about making it a simple partition, I ignored it thinking that I could still use that for a data drive and use a third partition I had as my windows 8 partitionAfter rebooting, I received a missing OS error message no doubt being that all my partitions were turned simple instead of just the one I made. I then used the MSI Recovery which did nothing, but likely removed any and all files I had(no big deal though).Next, I tried my Google-fu to find an answer. It suggested to restore the Master Boot Record, but that did nothing once again. I used this [url=http://bit.ly/iZN0A][/url] tutorial, but in step 3, I didn't even see Windows mentioned. However, I did see my main OS partition and both other partitions on the disk, so I know it's not dead.

May 1, 2012had a virus last year with an underlying update problem. the virus got sorted but i was told the only way to sort the update was to reinstall windows. basically every time the laptop was turned off it was have to reinstall all the updates as they dont seem to save when it shuts off. i left it at the time as it was only 25 or so updates. it is now at over 90 updates and i am missing some security updates. when i try updating manually it comes up with code 80071A91-windows update encountered an unknown error.

When I edit a file from my Win 7 (pro, 64-bit) laptop, then go to edit it again, I get the version I had changed, but no one else does. This is causing huge difficulty, because my employees will start working in a sales forecast spreadsheet after I reconnect to the network and supposedly sync, but they don't get the latest version. Feb 18, 2013I have a system with 32gb DDR3-2400, a 256GB SSD and a couple of spinners. I have set up 4gb of the RAM to be used as another RAMdisk using the softperfect software. This problem has been going on for some time, but has been more of a problem since I started using the RAMdisk. Not because the RAMdisk itself isn't working well, because the stuff that is stored there keeps getting reset.I have pretty much identified that when updates are installed through windows update (either from Microsoft update or from my WSUS server), the following are reset to defaults
1. Pagefile is automatically managed and stored on the C: drive and is set to 32gb
2. The TEMP and TMP environment variables are reset to the C:users default location
3. The temporary Internet Files location is reset to the default C:users... location
There may be others that I have not discovered.I have manually set my swap file to 1024/2048 on the D: drive (a spinner), on the belief that it should rarely if ever be needed with a system equipped with 32GB of RAM. I'm certainly not inclined to waste 32GB of space on my SSD for an unused object.I have placed the TMP/TEMP files, cookies and Temporary Internet files on the RAMdisk to squeeze a little extra performance out of the system. (Yes, I know, I'm not really getting much benefit).Photoshop and a few other programs also use the RAMdisk as a scratch disk, and were the main reason I set it up in the first place.This is becoming a real pain when it gets reset as I have to manually change everything again. Anyone know a way to make windows leave settings at what I set them, instead of having it continually reset the values to what it wants? I'd prefer to have it my way. I know there will be proponents of "leave things as windows wants it".

Jul 31, 2011It is a packard bell with windows 7, bought from a large electrical chain, so no support there -it didnt have a restore disk but I have downloaded one, and also made one from daughters laptop. The screen is black with white warning saying BOOTMGR is missing, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart, When i do this the same happens. I have pressd F12 and booted from downloaded disk.first i get a black screen saying windows loading. then a grey box tha says system recovery options and keyboard input method - a drop down option - i choose united kingdom and hit next.

May 1, 2012I can't access my bios and get msg missing bootmgr enter ctrl alt delete to restart, I can't use my win 7 disk or any other disk to fix this because my computer won't read it, and I can't get into the bios to reset the boot priority. I can't use a zip drive cause the computer won't read that either. All I seem to be able to do is hit ctrl, alt, del. but why do that is it doesn't boot my rig. when I put the drive into my second computer, windows is there, and the boot manager is there too. Have booted from Windows 7 installation disc, tried startup recovery - took 2 hours before reporting no automatic fix possible. It cannot find an installed Windows OS to do a system restore, so I attempted a "custom" clean re-install. However, I then get a "canot create system partition or find existing one" error message. I have tried to create a "New" one but nothing doing. I don't seem to have any HDD drivers to point to either.

Dual Boot - Config / System Is Missing Or Corrupt Message
Dec 1, 2009I have an Acer Aspire one. It came with XP and I have it dual booting into Windows 7 which is working well which I installed from a USB Drive as this model doesnt have a CD Drive.
In the main boot screen it says "Earlier version of Windows" For XP and "Windows 7" for windows 7. All was working well until yesterday...
Now I can't boot into "Earlier version of Windows" i.e. XP. It gives me the C:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt message. I can boot into Windows 7 fine but all of my work stuff is on the XP platform (I know I can access the files from "7" but I need to get it operational again).
Any ideas? Can I do a repair from the USB Drive?..I've tried a couple of things to boot from the USB Drive but to no avail. And I can't find the BOOT.INI file from XP (I think it gets moved to Windows 7's hidden boot partition when I installed it. I cant seem to access that partition either).

Dec 1, 2012I've had my computer (Asus Zenbook - Windows 7 64bit) for less than a year, and the bluetooth was working perfectly until over a week ago when I installed a windows update.
I first noticed something was wrong when I no longer had the option to send to a bluetooth device from right clicking on a file. Then I noticed if I search for bluetooth nothing appears except for my bluetooth folder containing my files. It's not in device manager or control panel either.
I reinstalled the bluetooth drivers directly from the manufacturers website, but nothing changed. The wifi light is on and works (if that has anything to do with it.)

I don't think it is a malware infection.Running ESET Nod32 Antivirus 4, Comodo Firewall and Malwarebyte's Pro. I did a scan with Hitman Pro and it didn't find anything. Tried sfc /scannow, no problems found.I can't find my Windows 7 install cd, we remodeled and moved back in recently.
