Windows Repair Can Only Find 1 Partition With 3gb
Mar 29, 2011
I know my Windows 7 bootloader is messed up, so I'm trying to repair it. In commandline prompt i type
Diskpart
List vol
it only finds one disk with 3gb on it, when there should be a partition with 60gb's on it and one with ~400gb on it. i don't care if i loose my windows data if i have to reinstall completely, i just want windows back. The installer can't find the partitions either?

Recently my Acer PC has had the Blue Screen of Death. Now when I boot the pc it goes straight into Startup Repair. The first time it did this it did not find a solution but I was able to go to a backup and when it restarted I was able to successfully load. I then started transferring files to my usb. As I was transferring a lot of my files, I can't remember if I got another BLOF or it just restarted but ever since then it just boots straight into Startup Repair, which cannot find a solution, but I have used my backups already so I don't have any more backups to go to.[CODE]

My Windows 7 now refuses to boot properly and now only boots into startup repair. This started happening after I shrunk and moved the /dev/sda2 partition (on my computer, the C: drive), so I could install Ubuntu. I did notice that Windows failed to boot but I was stupid and didn't fix as soon as I realized. I installed Ubuntu (and with it, Grub) and now Windows just boots into Startup Repair which just says it can't do anything and then displays some HP software that gives me a few options (none of which has helped). It may be important to note that I have the option to go to the command prompt.
I have tried all the fixes I have found on the internet (such as the various bootrec.exe commands) to no avail and am becoming desperate!

My 3Tb HDD recently started acting up. I use SSDs in a RAID0 to boot with and pretty much everything else, including desktop, downloads, documents, etc. are redirected to the HDD. It started with missing icons for shortcuts and then folders became inaccessible with an error message of "The file directory is corrupted or unreadable." The folders, that contained plenty of files, were reporting 0 content and more folders started to become affected.I restarted my computer hoping it was a temporary glitch but now windows is telling me the drive needs to be formatted. Disk Management reports the drive to be operational with 2794.52 GB RAW and Healthy (Primary Partition). I booted linux from a USB stick and was unable to mount the drive. Kaspersky Rescue Disk simply doesn't recognize the drive. Possibly the oddest thing, though, is that EaseUS Data Recovery software is reporting only about 770GBs for the partition. Whats strange about it is that's right around the amount of free space that was on the drive.
I haven't run a CHKDSK or checked for bad sectors yet because I'm hoping to try to recover the files if possible. I have backups of the important files but there's a huge amount of data that isn't backed up that I'd at least like to try to get to before reformatting or doing something else that will ruin any chance of recovery

i have a corrupted registry on a windows 7 partition and I have another on working, so i wanted to know if there was a way to restore/fix/repair the registry of the corrupted partition from the partition working. Apparently the system protection wasn't on so I don't have saved files in "regback" and "system32/config". I'd be glad to give more informations if needed.

I have an HP Mini 110-3000. I think I have pretty messed up with the boot configuration. However, I still have an HP_RECOVERY partition intact and another partition named BOOT (X. There is no OS installation on any of the drives, though BIOS shows a Win 7 installation. The main issue is that I want to do a factory restore using the HP_RECOVERY partition. The partition is already set to active. But when I boot it gives me a WINDOWSsystem32winload.exe file missing ot found. Already I have rebuild the BCD. What must I do to make this system use its HP_RECOVERY partition to do a factory restore.

I am currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I was in the middle of a process restoring my computer to a few days back and suddenly it froze. I did a power shut down and when I turned it back on, I wasn't able to get back into windows. I was brought to startup repair and it gave me errors. 'Boot manager failed to find OS loader'. There was options for restoring, but all my restore points were gone. Recovery wasn't able to find image backup.
"Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". I was told to go into safe mode to restore, but whenever I enter safe mode, startup repair would take over and shows the same errors, also I read a tutorial using a repair disc ( made a copy of it on someone elses ultimate x64 computer) and I get the 0x00000e9 error if i boot from disc. What can I do? As of now I don't have the installation disc with me. I wont be able to get hold of it until tomorrow. There's a lot of important files in that hard drive and I really cant lose any.

Set up see's the primary drive-1, but I still get the error and won't let me install the OS. I've searched the internet and can find nothing on this error exactly.

After 8 long years I've finally upgraded my wheezy old pc, and now am drooling to play with this beastly new machine I've just assembled. My system specs should be in my sig below. But after 12 long hours of trying to install windows 7 pro, I'm more kinds of frustrated than there are words for.As in the topic title, I'm up against the "setup cannot find or create a system partition" error. My machine has a single 2 TB Hitachi Sata 3 hard drive, so there is no raid to muck things up, which seems to have been the primary cause of everyone elses troubles with this error. Using my old rig, I partitioned the new drive and transferred all the data from the old drives, leaving the first 75 GB partition empty and waiting for windows 7.
Then "the troubles" began. Research ensued.First thing I tried was to load updated sata 3 drivers from the mobo install disk. No help. Then I tried downloading the latest drivers from Asus and loading them from a flash drive during installation. No dice. Then I tried changing bios settings from Sata to IDE. No dice.Tried all of the above again with minor tweaks. Using the setup tools, I deleted that first partition and tried to make it again but setup gives me the title error.Well, of course I need that partition back so after some more research, I downloaded gparted, booted it up, but the video output is messed up and impossible to read. Then I slept for 6 hours. I woke up, tenacious and desperate, and figured I'd try diskpart (well above my paygrade) to make the first partition active and/or primary. Diskpart won't allow it? I disassembled my new system, plonked the old system back into the case, booted up into winxp off the old hard drive and with Easus partition manager and tried the same thing as with diskpart, but with the same results. No dice. Then, clearly somewhat crazy at this point, I put the new machine back in the case and tried ALL OF THE ABOVE AGAIN. No dice.Upon boot, POST sees the hard drive, but its not detected in bios. I don't know whether this is a hard drive problem, a mobo problem, a configuration problem, or completely normal for my gear. In any case, windows setup lists all the partitions.

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Created it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive, so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.
Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?

I currently have a dual boot on my computer with Windows 7 and XP. Unfortunately as my computer is quite old my hard drive is not very big and with it being partitioned I am fast running out of disk space. So I tried to shrink the XP partition to allow me more disk space for Windows 7. Unfortunatley this would only let me shrink it by 83mb for some reason. I decided that since I barely use XP anymore that I would simply reformat the XP drive then try and merge them together. When I tried to format the partition it just gave the error "Windows was unable to complete the format". I then discovered in Disk Management that the Windows XP partition was the system partition which was causing the problem.

1.I had created a locker on my desktop using "Folder Lock" software.
2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.

I'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?

I wanted to create a new partition to try out linux. So I decided to shrink E: by 20 GB. I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.
After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart, command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition, primary, ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.
