Windows 7 Will Not Boot After Update?

Apr 30, 2011

My computer is a frankenstein, its got a bunch of different parts in it. My computer will not load windows. Every time I turn it on it automatically goes into system recovery. System recovery says it cannot find any problems (after it has already restarted itself 10 times). The first time this happened I did a system restore to an earlier point and it worked just fine. Two days later while I was at work windows did an automatic update, and the problem happened again. Unfortunately, this time the only restore point was the one the system created before it did the most recent update. So now I can't restore the system, the recovery tool isn't working. I've tried opening the bios and changing the boot order to boot by cd first and used the install disk, the same thing happens. I'm almost ready to buy a brand new hard drive and start from scratch.

Windows 7 Won't Boot After Update?

Apr 14, 2012

that's what I think. When I start the pc, windows will boot to the splash screen, hang hang for a minute and then reboot. Just before it does, I can hear the hdd spinning down.Safe mode won't work, system restore won't work, loading last know configuration and system restore won't work.I think this happend after a windows update. After I tried "repair you computer" I got a number of errors, the first 2 are 6.1.7600.16385.

Windows 7 Update Causing Boot-up?

Jan 23, 2013

A few days ago, my computer stopped booting up. The splash screen for the mobo showed up, and then I would get a black screen w/ a white flashing cursor and nothing else. I put in my Win7 install disc to try to do a repair, and eventually figured out that if I change my boot sequence in the BIOS so that it goes to the DVD drive 1st and the boot hard drive last, it boots up just fine. I reset to the last recovery point, changed the BIOS back so it would boot from the hard drive 1st, and everything thing worked fine... until it installed the latest Win7 updates. After that, I had the exact same problems. So I changed the BIOS again as a temporary solution, and then I noticed that the computer wasn't sleeping properly. It used to turn off the display, the hard drives, the case fans, etc. Now, it turns off everything EXCEPT the case fans... which pretty much defeats the purpose of putting it in sleep mode.

Boot Windows Via Removable Storage To Update SSD?

Jun 14, 2012

I've run into a problem on my system involving my SSD, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS, causing my system to pause/lock-up. Upon contacting my manufacturer (Origin) about the problem, they told me that it was my SSD firmware most likely. After researching I confirmed this myself. Boatloads of people have had this same issue with the older firmware, which I have.Updating should solve all my issues. But PROBLEM : My secondary hard drive does not have a compatible partition style for installing Windows (it has a different style because it's a very large HDD) and I can't get remote assistance on the issue due to my ethernet port being broken. I can't send in my system either because I'm currently living as an expat in China and sending things like this back and forth across the border is nearly impossible and not affordable. There are no Origin shops here in China and even if there were I wouldn't exactly trust it. The only place you can send a computer in is Origin HQ in Miami Florida, which I can't do.

I have these other storage devices. It's all I've got now :

> 16GB Kingston SD card (SD4/16GB)
> 4GB Flash Drive

Can I install windows to one of the spare drives?

BSOD During Windows Update / System Boot-up

May 11, 2011

CPU: i7 2600k 3.5ghz
MOBO: Gigabyte g1.Sniper 2
RAM: Corsair CL8 vengence 8gb (4x2)
SSD: Corsair Force 3 60gb (Windows 7 pro 64 bit installed here)
VGA: Sapphire 2gb 6950 x 2 (in crossfire)
HDD: Western Digital 2TB SATA 3 black
PSU: Corsair HX-1050W
Hi!

I have been having some troubles with this computer since day of purchase. The first BSOD I had was posted and resolved here: BSOD during battlefield 3. Previously, my computer would BSOD during game activity, such as battlefield 3. Elmer identified the probable cause being Avira, and sure enough when I attempted to delete it the computer BSOD; I managed to delete it in safemode and have had no BSOD's during game sessions ever since. However, lately I have encountered random BSOD's during Windows update and System start up (Just before the windows logo screen) of the same error code; I have posted the DMP file and CPUz screenshots. I think it is also worth mentioning that in games I have noticed stuttering no matter what graphical settings I set it to.I am having difficulty tracking down the Hardware responsible for this BSOD; I have run memtest overnight and it passed without fault. Could the 60gb Force 3 SSD be responsible? Or the RAM?

Windows 7 Ultimate Won't Boot After Bios Update

Oct 28, 2012

I have a desktop using a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (revision 1) motherboard. Using the Gigabyte @Bios utility, I updated the Bios to F12. After rebooting as @Bios suggested, I can no longer get Windows to boot. I've noted the following:

1) I have issue accesing the Bios setup. Sometimes I can access it, sometimes I cannot;

2) When I am able to access the Bios, I can confirm the disk Boot Priority, however it's is now showing the drives as SCSI (I only have SATA drives);

3) There is a new setup screen displayed after the Gigabyte logo screen shows. This screen now shows 'Serial ATA AHCI, Version iSrc 1.20E.

Copyright (c) 2003-2008. Intel Corporation.
**This version supports only Hard Disk and CDROM drives. **
Please wait. This will take a few seconds.

Then shows Controller/Bus/Function/Port/Device and lists all harddrives. At the end of the drive list it shows 'AHCI Bios installed'

4. After step 3, it shows the prompt 'Loading Operating System' - the boot hangs at this point.I DID backup the existing Bios before updating it. I have not gone in and copied that file to a floppy to try and flash the Bios using the backup (don't know if this is possible).

Windows 7 Won't Boot After Java Program Update Installed

Jul 24, 2010

My installs of Windows 7 was working fine and all of a sudden it wont boot anymore. Yesterday I put in a required Java Program update install and I think Windows just added a couple of critical updates as well. I have tried booting in every way possible, rolling back, safe mode, etc, and nothing works.

I keep getting the screen telling me there is a problem and must do a system repair. Then the repairs and all it wants to do is shut down. I managed to pull up some error reports and it seems two files are corrupt which are TCPIP.SYS and one called FWPKCLNT.SYS.

TCPIP.SYS is located in C:/WIndows/System32/Drivers
FWPKCLNT.SYS seems to be in drive F:/ which is not an actual drive. It must be a temporary boot drive created by Windows 7.

I have an older XP on another partition on the same hard drive so I booted in XP to see if I could possibly delete the reported corrupt TCPIP.SYS file and replace it from another Windows 7 install from my laptop just to see if that might work. But it wont let me delete the TCPIP.SYS file. It says it is in use, but I can't understand that since I am trying to delete it from the Windows 7 partition while I am booted up from the XP boot partition.

Windows Boot Slowly And Update Constantly Failed

Feb 8, 2013

Long ago i updated my bluetooth adapter driver, and the caused malfunction. I downloaded the driver from Dell Support website (apparently there are 3 under 'Network', and i get a lucky shot) and the bluetooth is fucntioning once again. however i checked through the device manager and found '!' marks on Bluetooth Peripheral Device. something is not right. Recent windows update (automatically) has failed to install over and over again, hence prompting to redownload the same update every time i turn on the laptop. Specifically, its is 'security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: January 8, 2013 (KB2742595)'.. There is another update coming (also tagged as Important) but come to fail as well. So currently there is 2 pending updates. While im having these problem, the boot time has increases noticeably. Long black screen appears before the login page turn up. Some says this is related to device/driver error. im not sure myself. Very recently i have my Avast Antivirus not working (turned off) and every time i ask it to turn on or resume, nothing happens. It remain not-functioning and so, i uninstall Avast and adopt AVG Antivirus. i think this is around when i was installing the bluetooth driver from Dell.

Windows 7 Fails To Boot After Installing MS Security Essentials Update

Feb 6, 2011

I have seen this problem on other forums. None had a satisfactory answer (besides the usual reinstall).Windows now fails to boot, after Win update automatically installed the update and insisting I restart. The update was Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.97.1113.0). Startup repair finds no problems. The BIOS recognizes the system drive and reports no errors.

I had done (before the update installed itself): repaired the "windows can't find the DVD drive" problem using the Microsoft "Fixit" for that problem it was successful). Also the external storage drive on a USB 3.0 controlled was dropped by the system at some point (hence my anxiety; all my backups, including a rather stale system drive image, are on that drive). I can access the Win 7 system drive with another OS on the machine (XP SP3).

Windows 7 Won't Boot Past EVGA P55 Splash Screen After Update

Jul 18, 2010

I have been using my Windows 7 x64 system for about 5 months without a problem. I booted it yesterday, and an autoupdate occurred as soon as Windows 7 started up. It looked like this autoupdate made changes to /COMPONENTS. As soon as it finished, the system rebooted, and got stuck on the eVGA P55 splash screen. It was stuck there for about 10 minutes, so I manually shut down the computer. Every time I turn it on now, I get stuck on the eVGA P55 splash screen. I can not get into safe mode or anything. Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this? Did some stupid Windows autoupdate crash my new computer? I am turning those off if that is what happened.

Flashing BIOS Firmware Update Has Lost Windows 7 Boot Record?

Nov 30, 2012

I wanted to install more RAM, but Supermicro support told me I needed to update BIOS (flash it) to enable it to accept higher RAM.After I did this, the BIOS seems to have lost the record that boots my Windows 7 installation. After going through the checks, it just comes up with "Operating System not found."So I thought that, since I have two SATA drives, I could try installing Windows on my redundant disk to see if that might generate a dual boot menu.I was able to successfully install a fresh copy of Windows on the 2nd disk, but it will only boot into that one. It seems my system has completely forgotten about my other, working, installation. Is there a process for recovering the boot information and setting it up such that I can go back to using my other installation?

Optional Update In Windows Update Is Giving A Blue Screen

nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.

After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

Unable To Update Using Windows 7 Update (Code 8000FFFF Error)?

Oct 30, 2012

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.

Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Cannot Boot Due To A Need To Revert An Update

Jul 16, 2012

Win 7 Professional with all current updates an patches that Windows update wanted installed. IE 9 stopped working, it would just flash on and then off.

Followed a MS guide that was to FIXIT and the program failed. Tried Method 2, manual reset of IE options, In the control panel I clicked 'Interent Options' nothing happens. Never get to the reset button I was to click.

uninstall IE9. Could not do it via the Windows Update as this was installed as part up the original installation. Followed the other open to turn off IE 9 which is suppose to remove IE9 and then Windows Update can reinstall it. That worked and I now had a flashing IE8. The Update failed though. MS forum says to go to the IE9 site and download it myself. That failed.

Now was told do a recovery. That failed, not surprising as it was a restore point created by one of the earlier attemps to fix the problem. An older backup from March was also an option and and that failed saying is was missing files needed.

Tried a number of other suggestions and something via msconfig that I have forgotten now. It was 2 AM and was getting rather loopy and frustrated. I decided to follow the steps again that seemed to at least get me IE 8 and did the turn off again. That failed and now I cannot boot as it is stuck trying to revert the computer back to the state it was in before I tried the function. Safe mode said it did a restore and had me started though. I tried to restart normally and I was right back at the reverting problem again.

I REALLY DO NOT want to do a system reinstall but I am at a lose where to go next.

Can't Skip Boot Manager After Update

Oct 11, 2012

My dad was "helping" me by updating my computer without consulting me. I didn't see what he did but I think he only installed some updates as far as I know...

Anyway since then every time I turn on my computer it loads Windows Boot Manager first instead of loading straight to Windows 7. I only have Windows 7 installed on this computer so there's no point in it asking me what operating system to load. I tried the 2 main methods described on these forums and they have not fixed the problem. Now the boot manager stays there until I select an option. Before this my computer used to boot in 30 seconds! Now it has to load the boot manager which takes an additional 30 seconds itself.

I did go into system properties>adv settings>advanced>startup and recovery>unchecked time to display list of operating systems. I also tried msconfig>boot

BIOS Update BSOD No Display On Boot

Oct 19, 2012

Earlier I was trying to fix a DCP latency issue and latencymon suggested I update my BIOS. I got the BIOS from Asrock directly. During the update I was given a BSoD and memory dump. The dump froze at 15 and I eventually turned off the computer. Upon rebooting I was unable to get a display.

So far I have reset the cmos, switched between gpu and integrated graphics, removed the gpu and other adaptors, let the computer stay off for 30min; all of which has not worked. When resting the cmos I used both the jumper switch, quick clear, and battery removal.

Dr. Debug shows no errors when starting the computer and it appears to continue cycling boots, despite the lack of error.
