Cannot Boot Due To A Need To Revert An Update
Jul 16, 2012
Win 7 Professional with all current updates an patches that Windows update wanted installed. IE 9 stopped working, it would just flash on and then off.
Followed a MS guide that was to FIXIT and the program failed. Tried Method 2, manual reset of IE options, In the control panel I clicked 'Interent Options' nothing happens. Never get to the reset button I was to click.
uninstall IE9. Could not do it via the Windows Update as this was installed as part up the original installation. Followed the other open to turn off IE 9 which is suppose to remove IE9 and then Windows Update can reinstall it. That worked and I now had a flashing IE8. The Update failed though. MS forum says to go to the IE9 site and download it myself. That failed.
Now was told do a recovery. That failed, not surprising as it was a restore point created by one of the earlier attemps to fix the problem. An older backup from March was also an option and and that failed saying is was missing files needed.
Tried a number of other suggestions and something via msconfig that I have forgotten now. It was 2 AM and was getting rather loopy and frustrated. I decided to follow the steps again that seemed to at least get me IE 8 and did the turn off again. That failed and now I cannot boot as it is stuck trying to revert the computer back to the state it was in before I tried the function. Safe mode said it did a restore and had me started though. I tried to restart normally and I was right back at the reverting problem again.
I REALLY DO NOT want to do a system reinstall but I am at a lose where to go next.

I made the naive mistake of trying to upgrade from a Biostar TH67+ MB to a MSI Z77A-GD65 MB using my existing Windows install. After I installed the new MB and the new drivers within Win 7 Pro 64 bit, the machine wouldn't boot. So I reverted to the Biostar MB and it still won't boot. I have tried Safe Mode (which just hangs) and I have run Startup Repair several times. How I can further troubleshoot/repair the boot?

Problem Description: I was using Windows 7 (64 bit) and having difficulty operating some CS4 applications even when I changed the compatibility settings. I decided to clean install the 32 bit version of Windows 7 to see if this would remedy the problem. I had purchased the Windows 7 Professional package so both discs were available to me. The CS4 situation did not improve. However I am not concerned with the CS4 issue at present
what I would like to do is revert back to Windows 7 (64 bit) and I don't know how.
I went from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 (64 bit) to Windows 7 (32 bit)
and now I want to go back to Windows 7(64 bit) is this possible.

I loaded WIN7 Home Premium onto a HP Notebook with 2 gig RAM, 60 gig HDD, and 1.67 Intel CPU. Not running well and want to revert back to XP which is fine for our use. In trying to make room on HDD, I deleted windows.old file. So my question is how do I reformat HDD and get back to clean machine without anything loaded and then load XP. Tried to install with XP disc but it would not let me. have Win7 on desktop and love it but it has the horsepower to run it like it should be run.

I had a pre release of Windows 7 and was adding the Windows 7 Ultimate but when I added it all of my settings as far as the desktop and programs did not transfer over. I did save everything, is there a way I can revert to my old Windows 7 pre-release? Or an easy way to have my desktop, documents, etc on my new version?

Apparently the CPU has been overclocked, but tends to revert back to AMD Phenom II X3 720 from time to time. The CPU is inserted in the ASRock N68-VS3 UCC motherboard. Does it reverting back means that the overclocking procedure is somewhat unstable or is it just a graphic glitch? Also, how better is a AMD Phenom II X3 720 to an AMD Phenom II X4 20 both @ 2.8 GHz?

how tricky it is to keep a clean install on Windows I'm wondering if i could ask some advice?
I will have the OS and programs on the ssd, let's call that c: and data on a regular hd, d:
If after time my c: has become bloated with appdata, unused folders in the users folder etc. How can I revert c: back to it's original state without changing d: ?
Can I do this with a restore point, or do I need another piece of software?

My computer is a frankenstein, its got a bunch of different parts in it. My computer will not load windows. Every time I turn it on it automatically goes into system recovery. System recovery says it cannot find any problems (after it has already restarted itself 10 times). The first time this happened I did a system restore to an earlier point and it worked just fine. Two days later while I was at work windows did an automatic update, and the problem happened again. Unfortunately, this time the only restore point was the one the system created before it did the most recent update. So now I can't restore the system, the recovery tool isn't working. I've tried opening the bios and changing the boot order to boot by cd first and used the install disk, the same thing happens. I'm almost ready to buy a brand new hard drive and start from scratch.

that's what I think. When I start the pc, windows will boot to the splash screen, hang hang for a minute and then reboot. Just before it does, I can hear the hdd spinning down.Safe mode won't work, system restore won't work, loading last know configuration and system restore won't work.I think this happend after a windows update. After I tried "repair you computer" I got a number of errors, the first 2 are 6.1.7600.16385.

I am going to buy a Windows 7 laptop, but I have had experience with Windows 7 and personally hate it, so when I get this laptop I want to revert back to Vista operating system... How do I do it? Can the Vista be downloaded from Microsoft's website, or do I need to buy Vista in a CD?

I am in a problem here. A day before yesterday, I was messing up with folder permissions and unfortunately I messed up pretty badly.
The problem is I changed the folder permissions of C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) to Deny for all users. These included
Authenticated Users
System
Administrators
Users
I was logged in with an Administrator Account. Now the problem is I cannot access the above folders with any user. All my applications installed in those folders do not work.
I tried several solutions available on the net like changing ownership, using THE Administrator account, etc but to no avail and these folders are still locked.
Is there anyway I can access these files or shall I resort to the ultimate step i.e. re-install windows.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C855-10Z and after having a memory error on my HDD was sent a emplacement, at this point I installed what was meant to be a legitimate copy of Ultimate Edition. Now I know this isn't the case. What is the best option for reverting to Home Premium 64 for which I have a legal CD key. When I replaced my HDD I created the Toshiba Recovery disks, I assume these restore me to factory setting including the original installation of windows? Should I put any important files on USB and then run these, just I've heard they don't always work as well as they should.

I've got a strange one here. I work for a small IT business that builds PC's for home consumer use. We have a standard computer build that we make and sell that performs fine. (Win 7 64 bit Pro,asus f1a55-m lx plus r2.0 mobo, AMD a8-5600k proc, Radeon HD 6000 onboard video).
We've built hundreds identical to this, but this morning I came across one that had a peculiar problem. Any time you go to change the monitor's resolution (on any monitor), the timer for it to revert back if it goes out of range is set at 7000 seconds (as opposed to the standard 30). I've never before come across something like this. I looked through every configuration setting known, and exhausted my google resources as well. I can't find anything at all on this subject.

A few days ago, my computer stopped booting up. The splash screen for the mobo showed up, and then I would get a black screen w/ a white flashing cursor and nothing else. I put in my Win7 install disc to try to do a repair, and eventually figured out that if I change my boot sequence in the BIOS so that it goes to the DVD drive 1st and the boot hard drive last, it boots up just fine. I reset to the last recovery point, changed the BIOS back so it would boot from the hard drive 1st, and everything thing worked fine... until it installed the latest Win7 updates. After that, I had the exact same problems. So I changed the BIOS again as a temporary solution, and then I noticed that the computer wasn't sleeping properly. It used to turn off the display, the hard drives, the case fans, etc. Now, it turns off everything EXCEPT the case fans... which pretty much defeats the purpose of putting it in sleep mode.

My dad was "helping" me by updating my computer without consulting me. I didn't see what he did but I think he only installed some updates as far as I know...
Anyway since then every time I turn on my computer it loads Windows Boot Manager first instead of loading straight to Windows 7. I only have Windows 7 installed on this computer so there's no point in it asking me what operating system to load. I tried the 2 main methods described on these forums and they have not fixed the problem. Now the boot manager stays there until I select an option. Before this my computer used to boot in 30 seconds! Now it has to load the boot manager which takes an additional 30 seconds itself.
I did go into system properties>adv settings>advanced>startup and recovery>unchecked time to display list of operating systems. I also tried msconfig>boot

Windows 7, 64 Dell XPS 8000 system. All browsers (Firefox, IE7, Opera) exhibit same behavior, which is when starting from the home page and browse to another page or tab, the page will stay open for a few seconds and then close and the browser displays the home page. Also, when trying to open Outlook 2007 from Outlook Today, I cannot open the inbox. The only way to do so is "open in new window". This is also true when trying to open folders.

well scenario is I got my new dell 15r laptop with windows 7 basic loaded yesterday.. so backed it up and wanted to put my old PC's windows 7 ultimate version on it. I installed it, while installation it allowed to have only 4 partitions.it already had 2 partitions1) Recovery - 15gb2) something i forgot ... some 40MBso i made a partition of 125GB for OSand rest of unallocated space ie some 660gb could not be allocated in more than one partition so i let it be unallocatedso after installtion got completed and OS started i went in disk management and tried to make that unallocated space of 660GB in 2-3 partitions.but it converted all my previous partitions also to dynamic. even recovery partitions.ow do i go back to basic partitions?? particularly about that recovery partition and my C: (OS partition) ??
