Permissions Error When Opening A File With Unknown Extension Type?

Sep 11, 2012

I am experiencing a problem with Windows 7 professional, 32 bit, where I am getting an error message (detailed below) when trying to open a file with an unregistered extension. For example, if I rename a file that ends in .txt and contains text, to something with a .test extension the "Open with..." dialog never appears, and I instead get the permission denied message. AVG premium is installed, however through a combination of disabling AVG as well as providing exceptions to the file extension, I can fairly safely rule out intervention from AVG. Windows Defender is disabled, Windows UAC is disabled as well. The Windows Firewall is on, but checking the settings for the firewall suggest no issues would be coming from there. To add to the fire, if I register the .test extension to open with notepad, the file will open fine and text is displayed as expected. Also of note, I can read the file from command prompt even when the extension is not registered to an application.

Revert Back To Win 7 64 Bit From Win 7 32 Bit

Nov 12, 2009

Problem Description: I was using Windows 7 (64 bit) and having difficulty operating some CS4 applications even when I changed the compatibility settings. I decided to clean install the 32 bit version of Windows 7 to see if this would remedy the problem. I had purchased the Windows 7 Professional package so both discs were available to me. The CS4 situation did not improve. However I am not concerned with the CS4 issue at present

what I would like to do is revert back to Windows 7 (64 bit) and I don't know how.

I went from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 (64 bit) to Windows 7 (32 bit)

and now I want to go back to Windows 7(64 bit) is this possible.

Revert Back To AMD Phenom II X3 720?

Nov 25, 2011

Apparently the CPU has been overclocked, but tends to revert back to AMD Phenom II X3 720 from time to time. The CPU is inserted in the ASRock N68-VS3 UCC motherboard. Does it reverting back means that the overclocking procedure is somewhat unstable or is it just a graphic glitch? Also, how better is a AMD Phenom II X3 720 to an AMD Phenom II X4 20 both @ 2.8 GHz?

Folder Permissions - Unable To Revert Back

Sep 21, 2012

I am in a problem here. A day before yesterday, I was messing up with folder permissions and unfortunately I messed up pretty badly.

The problem is I changed the folder permissions of C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) to Deny for all users. These included

Authenticated Users
System
Administrators
Users

I was logged in with an Administrator Account. Now the problem is I cannot access the above folders with any user. All my applications installed in those folders do not work.

I tried several solutions available on the net like changing ownership, using THE Administrator account, etc but to no avail and these folders are still locked.

Is there anyway I can access these files or shall I resort to the ultimate step i.e. re-install windows.

Resolution Got Changed Over Lunch / Cannot Revert Back To Previous Setting

Nov 29, 2012

So i returned to my work computer after lunch and the resolution had been changed to 800x600, very odd.Now i have spent 2 hours trying to get back my resolution to the 1680x1050 that is was before but i still can not choose anything higher then 1600x1200 under Screen Resolution settings. The one with the correct ratio i can choose is 1280x960 and i'd like to bigger one back.I have updated the driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics accoridng to Device Manager). I have updated the driver for the Monitor (HP LE2201w), but the monitor still shows up as Generic Non-PnP Monitor under Device Manager and now i am out of ideas... I really have no idea what the hell happened when i was gone.(And yes, the computer was locked so it wasn't someone else changing something)Uninstalling the driver for the Generic device does nothing, it pops back up again after installing the correct display driver, or after a restart. It's like the display driver i downloaded from HP is not being installed, no idea why.

Trying To Revert Back To Windows 7 From Windows 8

What ACTUALLY happened was Windows 8 installed as a primary OS, but it apparently didn't delete any of his data; it just replaced the Windows 7 OS with Windows 8, with its Metro UI and such.Is there any way to uninstall Windows 8 Release Review and revert back to Windows 7 without deleting any of the data on any of the hard drives?

Pps File Type Not Listed

Jul 24, 2012

My problems continue with Win 7's faulty 'file associations' subroutine. Have a friend with a new Toshiba Core i5 on which he has MS Office 2003 Professional fully installed, including PowerPoint. Three weeks ago, he complained that he could not open .pps files attached to e-mails, so he brought the computer to me. I opened the file associations subroutine, found .pps in the list of extensions, and ultimately (tha'ts another whole story) got MS PowerPoint registered as the default program to open such files.Today he claimed he got another e-mail with a .pps attachment, and could not open it, so brought the computer to me again. I don't know why he wasn't able to open it, because I called up the e-mail, clicked the .pps attachment and it opened perfectly. However, I opened the /Default Programs/Set Associations list and scrolled down to see what the .pps entry said was the current default.

Create A Shortcut To A *.bat Batch File In The SAME (unknown) Folder?

Sep 21, 2011

I have written a batch file (e.g.aaa.bat) which can take several paramters and runs fine as long as I enter the start command at the command prompt e.gaaaa.bat -start -logIn order to avoid always having to enter manually this command I created a shortcut to this batch file and placed it in the SAME directory and added once the desired parameters. The shortcut properties look like now:Target: D:proj2 est2011aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: D:proj2est2011This works fine as well. Now the problem comes: I want to make these batch file and its shortcut portable. That means users should be abel to copy both files (batch + shortcut) on their computer in an indiviual different directory and be able to start the shortcutted batch file WITHOUT adjustments as well.

BUT this does not work because "Target" and "STarted in" most problably have a different path (e.g. C:evalproj ask23).My first approaches to solve this problems were to omit the path like in:Target: aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: .But this does not help. If I try to apply the settings above for the shortcut I got an error popup:"The name aaa.bat' specified in the target box is not valid"Hmm, how do I specify in the shortcut=SAME DIRECTORY AS CURRENT SHORTCUT FILE otherwise?
