Sep 21, 2012I am in a problem here. A day before yesterday, I was messing up with folder permissions and unfortunately I messed up pretty badly.
The problem is I changed the folder permissions of C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) to Deny for all users. These included
Authenticated Users
System
Administrators
Users
I was logged in with an Administrator Account. Now the problem is I cannot access the above folders with any user. All my applications installed in those folders do not work.
I tried several solutions available on the net like changing ownership, using THE Administrator account, etc but to no avail and these folders are still locked.
Is there anyway I can access these files or shall I resort to the ultimate step i.e. re-install windows.

Aug 29, 2011i had a terrible problem with a big quantity of extremely important photo files; i formatted a pen drive by error and now i cannot access my photos; the card in the camera card filed as fat; my computer only files in nfts; a window popped up telling i had to format; i didnt realized the risk and formatted; now i cannot open the files because for sure they now are nfts; how could i revert the mistake i did?, there should be a way of reverting from nfts to fat, isnt it?

Jul 29, 2012i have a 7 series samsung laptop, I can make my own "custom" power plan, or even set it on balanced or anything, and when i shut computer down(doing it properly), and start it up, the power plan is back on "Samsung Eco Mode". I'm not sure if THIS eco mode is what is then turning off the network card, but also when i start, the internet is connected for about 5 seconds, then disconnected....adding another piece to the puzzle there is a program installed from the factory called "Easy Settings" and when i open that, network card is in "off" position, i turn it on and instantly have internet again. This easy settings program is on my list of programs i can uninstall, but im not sure if its whats reverting settings or not, getting to be verrry annoyed with opening 6 menus everytime i start-up to get everything the way i want it again. actually also i have heard these samsung laptops come w.lots of fluff programs that arent needed, if anyone knows MORE of these i can uninstall thatd be amazing.

Nov 29, 2012So i returned to my work computer after lunch and the resolution had been changed to 800x600, very odd.Now i have spent 2 hours trying to get back my resolution to the 1680x1050 that is was before but i still can not choose anything higher then 1600x1200 under Screen Resolution settings. The one with the correct ratio i can choose is 1280x960 and i'd like to bigger one back.I have updated the driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics accoridng to Device Manager). I have updated the driver for the Monitor (HP LE2201w), but the monitor still shows up as Generic Non-PnP Monitor under Device Manager and now i am out of ideas... I really have no idea what the hell happened when i was gone.(And yes, the computer was locked so it wasn't someone else changing something)Uninstalling the driver for the Generic device does nothing, it pops back up again after installing the correct display driver, or after a restart. It's like the display driver i downloaded from HP is not being installed, no idea why.

Mar 28, 2011Using x64 Ultimate SP1 here. Just tidying up my desktop and taskbar to the way I like them. Nothing too tricky here, just minimizing clutter and placing shortcuts to Adobe CS5 apps on the task bar after upgrading from CS4 to CS5. My prior desktop was a bit more cluttered with shortcuts, and the taskbar held only CS4 shortcuts pinned to the bar. After setting everything to the way I want it, saving my desktop theme, and even rebooting a few times, the desktop configuration seems static. I also created a restore point with the new desktop and taskbar arrangement included.
But, come back the next day and it's all back to the old cluttered desktop and CS4 icons pinned to the taskbar! It doesn't seem to affect my desktop wallpaper settings, though --only the dtop icons and pinned taskbar icons. Not using any 3rd party desktop managers or the like. It always seems to happen sometime during the night. When I check to see whether a Windows update has taken place, most times there hasn't been one. This has been going on now for over a week. Sure getting tired of the system restore routine just to get back to my current desktop config.

Apr 30, 2010Is there a way to make the folder icons look like the windows XP folder icons, where the folders are flat instead of skewed, and showed 1 to 4 picture thumbnails? Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.

Or better yet if they know how I can get all my startup menu program folders to be restored, rather than show up as (empty)?
