So I have a HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that turned off during an update not to long ago. I have been trying to get it fixed but I have ran out of options. After a long boot time to the login screen and after I get logged in, I can do nothing on my desktop. It lags and freezes like crazy. Then when I try to get in via Safe Mode, it just restarts.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi went to update my BIOS after one of my games(call of duty: Black ops) was lagging badly and i did everything to reduce lag even though my computer could run it on high settings. BTW the lag was gone after i upgraded BIOS for the game i mentioned above.So a friend suggested that i update the BIOS. i did and then after restart my computer would freeze but when i unplug a usb device from 2 ports grouped together it booted. Today i got the boot until i remove a USB device but now i get crashes in games. it also decided to install printer drivers...again even though the printer has been working fine since the day i installed windows 7 x64 months ago. My version is not a beta or a RC its a full version fully updated with some minor tweaks like UAC turned off but nothing major that would cause startup to fail.i know i dont have a virus or a rootkit. Thats the first thing i checked. This didnt happen till after i updated the BIOS. so here is what i have done so far:Startup repair twice(i chose the recommended option).....neither time it worked it just reverted it back two days.did a antivirus,rootkit, spyware,etc... scan found only small stuff that wouldnt cause this much problems. in other words small stuff that i got rid of easily that is fairly common such as data miners and tracking cookies.also ran combofix....didnt find anything.next did a scan using Advanced windos Care 2 didnt find anything wrong with the disk or anything else.also ran chkdsk also didnt find anything.i ran out of options of stuff to do. i dont mind re-installed windows 7 but kind of want to use that as a last resort.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated to the latest Windows 7 service pack this morning, upon restarting I can log in however nothing loads up. My screen is black, I am able to move the cursor. When pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE a error message comes up stating:
"Failure to display security and shut down options. The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."
I am able to boot in to safe mode, I have attempted a system restore to the time before updating this morning. However this stays at initializing for at the moment around 3 hours. I have no idea now what to do, I purchased this laptop in November 2011 which came preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit.
I installed a new pc for a friend of mine and it wouldn't start. Although I have basic knowledge in PCs and installing the necessary partswiring needed to make the PC functional, I have installed a couple of PCs before this one and worked fine. Now I'm confused with this one. - When I turn on the PC the fans (cpugpu) slightly move and then stop. My guess is that the system for some reason isn't receiving any power. I have also tried using a different PSU (ZALMAN 850 watts) and I still got the same result.

- My original hard drive in my dell xps m1530 crashed so I bought a new hybrid drive.
- I installed the new drive and went to install windows 7 back on the drive
- The windows 7 install hung forever so I canceled out of it.
- After I did that I went to try the install again and now when I start my computer all I get is "BOOTMGR is missing"
- I've set my boot sequence properly in the BIO's and I've checked that the CD i'm using is bootable as it works perfectly on another cpu
- I've even turned the hard drive off in the boot sequence and then the laptop tells me there is no bootable drives
I can take to get it to recognized the CD and boot from it?

View 2 Replies View Relatedso i was on windows, on a website, when my computer formally shutdown and restarted.it wouldnt boot. i checked the bios and there were no changes. tried every bootrec / command and nothing would work. i ended up installing windows on my second drive, making that the boot priority, then adding the primary drive's OS onto that boot menu. i tried moving the bcd using easybcd onto my primary drive then booting from it and still nothing.to sum up, my computer now boots bios-->E:cd->C:Windows.i want to fix it because I need to unplug my E drive to plug in my DVD drive because my gtx 570 is so long it blocks 3/5 of my sata ports and i want to install skyrim again
View 1 Replies View RelatedWorking on a a New Dell Inspiron Desktop (Dec 2011) with Windows7 All was we'll until about a month ago, when it would not boot up properly, it would get to the windows logo and freeze, or take a tremendous amount of time to get to desktop. I minimized msconfig start up programs, ran a CHKDSK, start up repair, system restore, everything, still no real luck, however once started it would run fine. Finally I did a complete reinstall, and all was smooth for a day, and boom once again, it will not boot properly on 1st try, then if I power down and immediately reboot it will start and run fine, I am puzzled, could it be a HDD issue? Even though when once past starting up session it runs fine. Usually in my experience if a hdd is the culprit it will run bad in more than just the start up session.

I have run CHKDSK /F, SFC /SCANNOW. nothing found, I have a copy of the windows installation disc but there system repair tool doesn't work.

I recently built a new computer for my wife and loaded it with just Windows 7 RC pending delivery of the full retail version in October.
Both computers have a similar problem. Sometimes - but not always - after shutting down the computer using the Start>Shut Down button it appears to shut down but has actually gone into a deep sleep with a blank black monitor and will not wake up no matter what keyboard buttons you press. It will also not reboot when you hit the computer power button.
The only way you can switch the computer off is to hold the computer power button down for about 10 seconds - then press it again for a normal reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Philips 220VW 22" 16x10 monitor and till a year ago I had a similar 22" 16x10 Philips monitor(had to replace it since I had some problems with it). After using Windows XP for quite some time I decided to give Windows Vista a try (that was back in 2007). However, every time I boot up or restart Windows, when reaching Windows Vista boot screen (the one with the green blocks, not the log in screen), I had to wait about 10 seconds while the monitor was trying to center the Windows logo without luck since the logo ended up somewhere in the low right corner of the screen.
Unfortunately, this happens on Windows 7. I contacted Philips and they claimed that this is not a hardware issue but a software issue since everything else was fine. I was told that Windows 7 does not have a proper scaled loading screen for this monitor???. This also happens when, by any chance, I end up with the Windows fail options screen (the one with last goon known configuration, normal boot etc - don't know how it is called ). I know I don't spend too much time staring at the loading screen but is there any way to fix this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyways, I am fixing a computer for a friend and his computer wouldn't start up properly. It would start up with the Windows 7 Boot logo and then go to a black screen with the mouse hanging there. I could move the mouse but nothing else would work including ctrl+alt+delete.I then used my Windows 7 usb pen backup install to install Windows 7 on the laptop and it would still hang at the black screen.I then used a program called killdisk, put it onto the usb pen and made it bootable, and it formatted everything off the hard drive. I then went to start the computer and it was still starting with the Windows 7 logo but just stayed there.I then used my Windows 7 off my usb pen and it didn't work. I also tried my Windows 7 disk and it didn't work.I faced this problem on this laptop before but it had Windows Vista on it (which was about 8 months ago) and put Windows 7 on it (8 Months ago).

As in, my monitor will turn off, but my computer won't. Once the monitor turns off there's no way in turning it back on without having to do a hard restart of the computer, which I know isn't healthy or good for my computer. I don't know what settings I could've messed with to have my computer not sleep correctly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently in safe mode as my Toshiba laptop cannot boot up properly. I get through the windows startup. All the icons on my desktop look normal, and then about 40 seconds later, a blue screen filled with information briefly appears before the computer shuts down and attempts to restart itself. It happens so fast I can't write down much of what was on the screen other than a data dump, with numbers counting down to 0 and then it does a restart on its own. I did a restore to November 20 and that did not help, so I did another restore for Nov. 9 and that too did not help. I did manage to open in safe mode and managed to find these errors in some event log :

Anyway, anytime my Sony Vaio computer isn't shut down properly, or the screen times out due to inactivity, it will show a screen that says "windows is loading files" and then proceeds to do a start up repair in which it will try to restore my device to a previous setting (or something like that). When i first got this computer, as with my previous HP, I could close the lid..no harm no foul. After having this one for a month it started doing this out of nowhere.

It's not the DNS cause that's all properly set and I've double checked, restarted computer and did a virus scan with security essentials.. came up with nothing. I'm connected to the router, just not the internet and when I go into my router and disable firewall it gets rid of the yellow triangle caution symbol and says internet access.. but I can't do anything..
