It's not the DNS cause that's all properly set and I've double checked, restarted computer and did a virus scan with security essentials.. came up with nothing. I'm connected to the router, just not the internet and when I go into my router and disable firewall it gets rid of the yellow triangle caution symbol and says internet access.. but I can't do anything..

View 2 Replies View Relatedi went to update my BIOS after one of my games(call of duty: Black ops) was lagging badly and i did everything to reduce lag even though my computer could run it on high settings. BTW the lag was gone after i upgraded BIOS for the game i mentioned above. So a friend suggested that i update the BIOS. i did and then after restart my computer would freeze but when i unplug a usb device from 2 ports grouped together it booted. Today i got the boot until i remove a USB device but now i get crashes in games. it also decided to install printer drivers...again even though the printer has been working fine since the day i installed windows 7 x64 months ago. My version is not a beta or a RC its a full version fully updated with some minor tweaks like UAC turned off but nothing major that would cause startup to fail.i know i dont have a virus or a rootkit. Thats the first thing i checked. This didnt happen till after i updated the BIOS. so here is what i have done so far:Startup repair twice(i chose the recommended option).....neither time it worked it just reverted it back two days.did a antivirus, rootkit, spyware,etc... scan found only small stuff that wouldnt cause this much problems. in other words small stuff that i got rid of easily that is fairly common such as data miners and tracking cookies.also ran combofix....didnt find anything.next did a scan using Advanced windos Care 2 didnt find anything wrong with the disk or anything else.also ran chkdsk also didnt find anything.i ran out of options of stuff to do. i dont mind re-installed windows 7 but kind of want to use that as a last resort.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I have a HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that turned off during an update not to long ago. I have been trying to get it fixed but I have ran out of options. After a long boot time to the login screen and after I get logged in, I can do nothing on my desktop. It lags and freezes like crazy. Then when I try to get in via Safe Mode, it just restarts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated to the latest Windows 7 service pack this morning, upon restarting I can log in however nothing loads up. My screen is black, I am able to move the cursor. When pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE a error message comes up stating:
"Failure to display security and shut down options. The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."
I am able to boot in to safe mode, I have attempted a system restore to the time before updating this morning. However this stays at initializing for at the moment around 3 hours. I have no idea now what to do, I purchased this laptop in November 2011 which came preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit.
Finally, my Outlook also doesn't work. I get the following error message:Task email address - Receiving' reported error (0x80040900) : 'The server name you entered cannot be found on the network (it might be down temporarily). Verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.'
View 7 Replies View RelatedLast night my wireless adapter (Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter) stopped working. In the properties it says it is working properly, however,it will not find a single wireless network to connect to, only the big red X over the icon in the system tray. My wife's laptop which is 5 feet from mine, finds our network as well as several of our neighbors. I upgraded to Windows 7 last month, so this morning I tried updating drivers, installed these but still the big red X. My laptop will work with the ethernet cable plugged in, just not wireless.I am stumped because it says it is working properly in the properties menu and not returning any errors during troubleshooting. I know its not my router, as my xbox, ipod touch, android phone, and wife's laptop can connect and work fine. Since she and I have the same laptop, I made sure that our properties settings were the same this morning as well, and they match up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 laptop connected via a WRT54G2 wireless router to an XP SP3 desktop. Both the laptop and desktop can see shared resources and both can connected to the internet.
In the Laptop's Network and Sharing Center, however, things are not correct. The Laptop has two connections to the router, lan and wireless. The lan's connection appears OK, but I cannot generate a map. I get "Windows cannot discover any computer or device." The wireless network is public.
I don't know why and I don't know how to change it. Also, when I try to create a new network connection, the laptop sees only a WRT160N router (which I don't have; perhaps I did a while ago, when the laptop ran Vista). No place to add a new one.
I have Cisco's Network Magic and it can correct see everything, including the right router.
If I install the update, I lose my complete e-mail address/contact list. If I don't install the update I can't open my Live Mail at all. I miss Outlook Express SO much! I'm a senior and I don't need Live Essentials bells and whistles.
View 9 Replies View RelatedInstalled Windows 7 on two home-network computers. Everything appeared to be good, including networking, but I could not access printers (linked through each computer) with the opposite computer. Windows update offered an update for the Broadcom 802.11n network adapter, but when I installed the update I completely lost the network.
I had to revert to the old driver in order to reastablish the network. But the printers still are not recognized. The network adapter on the secondary computer is a Linksys WMP300N. I did try turning the router off for ten seconds with the updated driver but that had no effect.
Anyone had this problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded Windows 7 pro and am running 2 monitors an old 17" Tatung LCD and a 24" Samsung 245BW.
Previously while running XP and XP64 i was able to choose a mode in my nvidia control panel that says configure monitors independenty. this option is no longer available.
What is happening is that when i run a game full screen, my second monitor flickers then adjusts for the resolution of the game that i am playing skewing the view of that screen. when i exit out it reverts to normal.
since i am using extended desktop i believe that it essentially is attempting to force the resolution onto my second screen. previously in xp and xp64, when entering the game at an adjusted resolution, due to the screens being "separately configured" the primary monitor adjusted resolution while the 2nd remained perfect.
I am wondering if there is a way to "configure" these monitors independently or possibly lock or separate my secondary screen from being attacked to my primary screen.
I have tried using ultramon but i could not get it to do what i wished. I may be totally mistaken or blinded by a simple fix, or possibly it may not be a feature availabe in 7. any advice would be extremely helpfull.
I have 3 laptops, was trying to boot from linux distro 32 bit on all of them. The oldest toshiba laptop is a 32 bit and the bootable dvd works! My 2 newer Asus laptops 64bit cant boot the dvd. All of their boot orders have also been configured. Asus even has a BBS option that can let me boot into dvd drive directly. On 1 Asus I only get a blank screen. On the other, no medium detected, cdrom boot priority indicated "boot ready".
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got some surround sound headphones. When I restart my computer after having set my sound configuration for the headphones to 7.1 (supported by these headphones) the sound configuration will be at 5.1. I don't know what is causing it to keep going to 5.1.When the set up is at 7.1 the two rear speakers are enabled. This might seem small but I play battlefield 3 and being able to better hear enemies who are behind me willter and this is one of the reasons I got the headphones so I definitely prefer these two speakers to work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a number of systems with various flavors of Windows 7 installed - x64, x86, Home Premium, Ultimate, and so on. Some were factory installs, some were installed by me at various times.Although I manually configured an IPv6 address on each system, they all exhibit the problem of using an automatically-generated IPv6 address instead of the one I have configured. This makes it difficult to connect to servers which use IP addresses for access control, as the automatically-generated addresses change on reboot.[code] one which I have hard-coded, an auto-generated one marked "preferred" and another auto-generated one which is not marked "preferred". When I try to access another IPv6 host on the same LAN, the connection comes from the 2430:1432:1:2:60ee:fe68:8697:cf8a address.I've searched for a way to force Windows to use the IPv6 address I configured and I haven't found anything that worked.

I am running 64bit Windows 7 on a DX58SO motherboard with the latest bios and board drivers downloaded from intel.- Windows 7 has all of the updates installed. After I installed SP1 I noticed that I had a yellow exclamation mark by the network adapters icon in the device manager applet with the error displayed as:
WAN Miniport (Netwprk Monitor) #2 This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
The drivers as identified in the properties sheet (ndistapi.sys and ndiswan.sys) are in fact located in their proper location in Windows/System32/Drivers/
I tried to uninstall the Wan Miniport to see if a restart would load the drivers but Windows would not allow it to be uninstalled. My network is working OK so what exactly does the Network Monitor do?
