Computer Not Shutting Down Properly

I have a dual boot computer running Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 RC.

I recently built a new computer for my wife and loaded it with just Windows 7 RC pending delivery of the full retail version in October.

Both computers have a similar problem. Sometimes - but not always - after shutting down the computer using the Start>Shut Down button it appears to shut down but has actually gone into a deep sleep with a blank black monitor and will not wake up no matter what keyboard buttons you press. It will also not reboot when you hit the computer power button.

The only way you can switch the computer off is to hold the computer power button down for about 10 seconds - then press it again for a normal reboot.

Windows Mail Not Shutting Down Properly
I have noticed that windows live mail will not close properly when I exit after checking my mail.  In order to start the mail app. again i have to go into the task manager and close the wlmail.exe process for the mail to properly start - is there a wrong setting or is this a glitch that is being worked on?

Aero Not Shutting Off
When I first installed W7 RC on my HP laptop, I noticed that my Aero theme changed once I unplugged my AC cable on Power Saver mode.  Unknowingly, I didnt know that this happened automatically as a battery saving technique, so I changed it back to Aero while I was still unplugged.  Now when I changed my unplugged theme back to Windows Basic, it stays on the same theme even when I am plugged in. Is there anyway I can get Windows to automatically change me from Aero to Basic (or whatever the power saving option theme was) once I plug and unplug my power? Just of note, I have an ATI HD 3200 internal video card if that helps with solving anything.

Lenovo W500 Not Shutting Down
When I shut down my Lenovo W500 on battery with Window 7 RC, the laptop doesn't shut down completely, the battery and the bluetooth indicators are both on.  This eventually drains the battery down.  I have replicated the issue several times.  When shutting down on AC, the laptop shuts down completely.

I am still experimenting with drivers. Anyone else noticed this?

AMD X2 Not Reporting Or Working Properly
Ok, this is going to seem odd. Installed 7.7000 32 and have had no problems, until last night when I realized something was amiss. In the task manager, (and performance monitor) the system is only reporting one core. I installed amd's cpuinfo and it too says that there is only one processor (0) on the system.

To make matters more confusing, the Device Manager says there are indeed two instances of the AMD X2 5000+ Processors installed and working properly. I tried to do a quick "upgrade drivers online" but it just reported that everything was fine. AMD's website doesnt seem to have any drivers (other than for XP/2003 x64).

I thought 7 was supposed to handle mutlicore better, but am i missing something?

CD/DVD Drive Not Working Properly
Windows 7 seems to freeze and crash when I input a CD or a DVD in my Dual-Layer CD/DVD RW-drive. I've checked the drivers, which windows update says is up to date, and tried with lots of different CDs and DVDs, just to check if the disc in question was broken.

This is really problematic as I dont have a spare DVD drive anywhere. Anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it/did you fix it?

Dvd Player Not Working Properly
I installed Windows 7 yesterday, and for some reason, my dvd player isn't working correctly.

I checked the drivers, and it says they are up to date. Not that I can find any for download anywhere though. I have a Sony Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7203S, if that helps.

This is what it says on the device manager, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". I don't think this is the doing of a virus, since I've scanned my computer twice and not found anything.

Is this something I can fix or do I need to install Vista again?

Vista Work Properly, Win 7 No, On Same Hardware
on my pc with Vista Home Premium I installed in dual-boot Windows 7 RTM on a dedicated partition. While Vista works perfectly for two years, never a blue screen, never crashes, W7 does not want to work. Gave me now a blue screen error, now another one. Then I tried to install it, leaving only the original Ram removing the RAM added by me, I disconnected the USB stick, and everything worked beautifully. I left the PC on for a whole day installing programs, antivirus, various tools, all ok!

The day after I entered the second bank of memory and the problems begin: Errors "PCI Express", Pc locked, BSOD frequently. Why with the same hardware Vista is practically perfect and with W7 crashes? I downloaded the drivers from the mainboard site, from the site of the video card, but not useless.

DVD Drive Not Properly Recognized In Explorer
I installed Windows 7, 64 bit last week as a dual boot on a system with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ 2800 MHz processor, 2048 MB of RAM, and an nVidia nForce 560 chipset. I have two internal hard drives and two USB ones attached. XP Pro is on the other partition. The DVD drive type is ATAPI, model HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H62N

After installing I thought the DVD drive flamed out. It spins when I put a disk in, and the title shows in Explorer, but clicking on the drive link in the left column leads to disaster. A green bar moves like a snail across  the address field. It never completes.

Contents of the drive never appear. When I try to close the window, it hangs. Task Manager is never able to end that task. Sometimes the option to log off on the preliminary screen for Task Manager works, but more often I end up forcing the system off and doing a hard reboot. Explore seems to remain stuck on whatever drive it was in when I activated the G: link.

I thought the drive had died and was on the verge of ordering  a new one when my friendly repairman suggested that I purchase a laser lens cleaner and run that before ordering. When I got the cleaner, it did not run as I'd been led to believe. Using the G:Winclean in Run hung the computer. While I was rebooting, I popped into XP. To my astonishment, the utility autobooted and ran. Then I stuck a program disk in and the drive ran flawlessly.

When I booted back to 7, nothing had changed. The drive did not work. I went to Device Manager and uninstalled the drive, then rebooted and let it reinstall. No change. I clicked on the Update Driver button, and learned that it has the latest drivers.

I just put in a data disk that works in XP. After I let it spin a couple of minutes, I clicked to open the drive G. On the first try, Drive H opened. When I clicked on G again, the contents panel shows desktop.ini (found in C:Users|MeAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsBurnBurn)   as being ready to burn. How that file got there baffles me. I sure didn't put it there! Ejecting the disk avoided the need to do a hard reboot.

Inserting another data disk has the same results. A commercial music disk is not recognized at all, and is ejected.

Now what?

Getting Win 7 RC To Work Properly With A DVI Monitor
I know the beta would not connect properly to a DVI display, meaning no vga <-> dvi adapters. it simply would not display on a straight dvi display.

Anyone having better luck with the RC.  before i go through the process of the install i'm hoping to see someone with some good news.

If MS can get that part right i'll be the first guy with cash in hand at the store...

Samsung BlackJack II Drivers Will Not Install Properly
Alright so, I just got a new computer yesterday and it just so happened to have Windows 7 64-Bit on it. I am a new user, that in a few days has switched from XP to 7. I own a Samsung BlackJack II, which I have done countless modifications to, and now, I cannot seem to sync it up, let alone, connect it to my computer. When I plug it in, via USB.

It worked the first time, synced it and everything with Windows Mobile Device Center, but then when I unplugged and replugged it in, driver's were corrupt(obviously), and tried uninstalling it all, and then reinstalling them all, drivers and WMDC, and I get a little notification that informs me that the drivers were unsuccessfully installed.

Which is no longer making any sense to me... At all! lol, so I was wandering could you guys help me out here? I'm new to Windows 7 and I hope that this Community, gives me a lot of insight, and information to get back on my feet.

Programs Won't Open Properly
OS: Win 7 HomeP 64bit

Recently Installed programs: Dragon Agerigins/DX update

I installed those both last night and played with no issues. Now today I turn on my PC and some programs won't open properly. My browser(Chrome) works(more on this later) and a few others do as well, but things like GameSpy Comrade, and Dragon Age, and Crysis 32/64bit will not open properly. When I click to open it loads for a bit than the program freezes, or it loads than does nothing. In both cases the program shows up in the task manager processes. If the program freezes it shows up in the task manager as running.

Solutions I've tried:

Restarting the computer
Virus scan(No results)

Can anyone give me some ideas?

Also chrome opens 3 times in the processes but I only have one window and one tab open. Is this normal?

Brightness Tuning Not Working Properly On HP 6735s
Fresh install of Windows 7 64 bits on a HP 6735s computer with AMD X2 and ATI  Radeon HD 3200.

No problem for installation.

Tuning of the screen brightness is hazardous. It does not work much of time, every time I try to put the brightness to the maximum it returns to the low value.

But after a while ( a few minutes, about 15 ...) it seems to work: brightness comes up to maximum !

Any idea ?

HP Photosmart Printer Is Not Properly Compatible When Networked
I'm using Windows 7 beta 64-bit. I have a Photosmart 2575 All-in-One, and when connected over the network installing the drivers is difficult. Windows can see it on the network, but cannot automatically install it and shows you the list of drivers Windows can install. The 2500 series driver is not there.

I tried using HP's installer for Vista 64-bit, and all seemed to go well until the installation tried to detect the printer on the network and failed.

So, I tried again to install it using Windows and chose the 2600 series driver and everything appears to work. Even so, something is wrong since the HP installer won't work and the printer isn't really a 2600 series.
