Windows 7 Won't Load - How To Reinstall/repair

Dec 1, 2011

I installed some software yesterday on my other PC and it seemed to cause some problems with another application so I uninstalled it via Remove Programs. On restart Windows 7 (Home Premium 64 bit) failed to start and all I got was a BSOD with the main error PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. After unsuccessfully trying to start in Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration I thought I'd try to repair the W7 installation using the W7 disc. (BTW - I don't know of any other options in W7 but would be grateful for any advice on that.) After powering up I pressed F12 to get a menu up and selected the option 'Boot from CDROM'. It seemed to be doing this and I got the message 'Windows is Loading Files'. I expected at that stage to be presented with an 'install or repair W7' option screen from the disc, like in XP. However, all that happened is that the OS proceeded to try and load, unsuccessfully, and went back to the BSOD. How do I get the disc to try and repair the install, or, if it comes to it, reinstall W7? I can't see those options. Do I need to amend the BIOS or something? (In the meantime I have put the disc in and chosen to run the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool (extended option) in the hope of finding the problem. This has been stuck at 21% for about an hour.) PS - I don't know which details are relevant but motherboard on that PC is Gigabyte P67A-UD7, processor is Intel 2600k, with 8GB of RAM. It is not connected to the internet.

Windows 7 Refuses To Load And System Repair Wont Load

Jun 25, 2012

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal. First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly. After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects.

Repair / Reinstall Windows 7 With Different DVD?

May 23, 2011

I have a Dell Laptop that won't boot up anymore (BSOD), I have saved all the data on the drive and I want to re-install/repair windows but I do not have the original Dell Windows 7 DVD (and the recovery drive was nuked). I do have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on me and I was wondering if I could use that to do the re-install (and keep their valid Dell CD-Key)? Is this possible?

Can't Reinstall/repair Windows 7

Oct 10, 2012

Recently my old laptop (toshiba a200-1vo) stopped booting. I'd get the "windows has failed to start" message which led me to try to start it up in safe mode, command line mode, etc which all resulted in a black screen with a movable cursor.I then tried booting from my win 7 CD to either try using the recovery console or just format/install again with no avail. The installation only recognizes my hdd as "unpartionated disk space" and does not allow me to install windows 7 either "'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu" - I'm not sure what this means but I do have the bios configured to boot from windows 7 as first source. I then tried running the recovery console which failed to resolve my problems automatically and got the following message "windows boot manager is missing or corrupt". After this I think it became apparent my hdd has some kind of issue. I tried going into the console and manually format but windows only recognizes 1 disk partition (X: which is the Boot partition). I've tried a few commands like bootrec /fixmbr /fixboot /rebuildbcd but nothing seems to work. chkdsk can't even be started either since windows can't detect any partition either.

Windows 7 Failing To Load & Cannot Reinstall

Nov 30, 2010

Have run out of variations on a general theme of switching stuff off and on again.Windows 7 (64 bit) is refusing to start: instead displaying the following message:"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1) Insert the Windows installation disc & restart your computer.2) Choose your language settings, and then click 'next'3) Click "repair your computer"I have done attempted step 1 in 2 different ways - and each time ended up back at step 1 (no sign of the mystical step 2): The first method I tried was to first insert the Windows 7 64-bit software disc, then switch the PC off and on again sing the power switch at the front of the base unit. This led me to the same problem message as before and did not offer me the chance to execute options 2 then 3 as expected; My 2nd method was to have the disc inserted again but this time press 'Ctrl'; 'alt; 'Delete' to attempt a restart. Again whilst the PC appeared to attempt a reboot the same 3 step error message appeared.I'm at a loss how to get the installation disc to run.Note*: Prior to the scenario described I had seen error screens with two user options: one to carry out a repair (this failed to do run anything and produced the error already described; there was another option to load Windows 7 normally, which did the same thing.

Repair / Reinstall Windows 7 32bit After Crash

Oct 25, 2011

Computer: Toshiba Satellite L455-s5976 2gb ram

I am in the process of trying to repair/reinstall Windows 7 32 bit home premium after a crash that has disabled my laptop. The computer has no longer booted properly after the crash occurred when I had to control+alt+delete out of a frozen screen. I do not feel the root of the problem is from a virus of any kind as I only visit mainstream websites and my virus protection/firefox has caught the very few instances I have ever run into. When it boots now, it starts normally showing the Toshiba logo then says "windows is loading files", then shows "microsoft corporation" with the moving green bar underneath and finally after a good while goes to windows 7 backdrop with nothing else showing but the mouse pointer.

I have tried a repair disc and booted from the DVD/CD drive to no avail. My system tools do come up for use but it will not boot into safe mode. It also shows no restore points. I did the memory diagnostic and nothing came of it. I have run startup repair several times and it just sits there running..the last time running it for 4 days straight continuous with no results. When the "System Recovery Options" box pops up searching for windows installs it shows a single Windows 7 install under the E: drive with partition size of 0 mb, but im almost certain my Windows is not under drive E:, but it does not find any other Windows installs though.

I am able to look around abit at the hard drive by clicking "load drivers" under the "System Recovery Options" and this is what it shows. 4 hard drives: "system reserved (c drive" 70.1mb free of 99mb "local disc (D drive does not show size or allow me to access it when i click on it "local disk (e drive same, does not show me size or allow me to access it. Boot (x drive 29.1mb free of 31.5mb Then (f drive Repair disc windows 7 64bit. About 8 months ago the computer crashed after my daughter changed some file type assignments and we had to reinstall Windows 7. The reinstall did take, but I do not think we formatted the drives properly with the reinstall and there were several different partitions on the hard drive.

After that install it would show PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable/ PXE-MOF Exiting pxe rom when it would first boot, but it still booted properly and never had any other problems with the reinstall until now. Also windows would never allow me to do a "back up" after the reinstall. When I reinstall windows this time I want to get the partitions in proper order and make sure everything is working properly so im not in this situation without a backup again. I am hoping I have not lost the data on this computer and have been looking at buying a hard drive adapter so I can connect the laptops hard drive to my home pc and hopefully recover the data off the hard drive before reinstalling windows again. Is this an effective way of preserving any data on the hard drive before I reinstall?

No Drives Found When Trying To Reinstall/repair Windows 7?

Jan 26, 2012

I have a netbook ASUS Eee PC 1005PXD.After only two days of use, i get a black screen at the beginning: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".Pressing F9 on boot doesn't work and i'm still getting the black screen.F2 is working, then in Boot Settings, i set Removable Device as 1st Boot Device. (and there is no Boot Booster option to disable). Then, using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, i create a Windows 7 bootable USB, in order to use the System Recovery. When i get to the System Recovery Options screen, no Operating System appear in the list. (It say to load drivers in this case, but i have no idea which drivers and how to load them).

Then i press next without choosing OS, but pressing Startup Repair after that didn't help. Also using the Command Prompt didn't help (bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /scanos, bootrec /rebuildbcd) The two last commands (/scanos and /rebuildbcd) give: "Number of windows installed: 0".Then i decided to reformat and reinstall Windows 7 (my netbook is new):i boot using the Windows 7 bootable USB i created before, then on first screen i press on "Install now".When i get to screen "Which type of installation do you want", i choose Custom. Then i get to screen "Where do you want to install Windows?" but the list is empty, and at the bottom, it is written "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation".

Windows 7 Will Not Load/Startup Repair Cannot Fix?

Mar 15, 2012

I have a Sony Viao with Win 7 Home Premium and I just deleted some form of Trojan with MS Security Essentials and then I ran windows updates before I restarted the machine. Windows update installed some security updates along with Service pack 1 and IE9. Now the computer will not load Windows. It goes straight to the startup repair but cannot fix the problem. There is not restore points other that when SP1 was installed and I gives an error every time I try to restore it. I can get to a command prompt and I have tried to run sfc /scannow but it tells me there is a system repair pending which requires a reboot and then does nothing. I also tried check disk(just as a last chance) but that didn't do anything.

Windows 7 Repair Disk Won't Load Completely?

Dec 29, 2009

We just acquired a new laptop with Win7 HP preloaded. One of the first things I did was try to make a System Repair CD (Start/All Programs/Maintenance/Create a System Repair Disc). The CD burning process seemed to go normally. When I tried to run the disc, it seemed to load normally until it got to a screen with the "streaks in the sky" wallpaper and then it stopped. There were no menus, messages, or anything except the wallpaper. I made two discs using a name brand with the same result. I know disc quality used to be an issue but I didn't think this was so these days among the name brands.

Windows 7 Won't Boot - Startup Repair Doesn't Load Either

Dec 2, 2012

I tried turning on my computer today and it gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" logo. It just hangs there indefinitely (usually only takes a couple seconds) and doesn't load. I then tried startup repair, and that just takes me to a black screen. After that, I tried putting in my Windows 7 boot disc to do a clean install, told the BIOS to boot to CD/DVD drive. It tells me to press a key, I do. I get "Windows is loading files" and then it goes back to "Starting Windows" forever, yet again. This happened so suddenly, it was working fine just hours before this.

Laptop Won't Start Up And Repair Disc Won't Load Up

Jun 23, 2012

I'm trying to get my nephew's laptop (acer aspire 5749) to boot up (apparently battery ran out during shutdown and not worked since) - on power up it gives the option to repair or start as normal. Repair takes you (eventually) to a grey screen with wavy ribbons at the top, a moveable mouse cursor but nothing else happens (even after leaving it for 24 hours). "Start windows normally" takes you to the loading windows screen, then it reboots itself (and the repair options come up again...).

Have booted with a windows repair cd but the same grey screen/wavy ribbons thing happens again and nothing happens (even after leaving it 24 hours).

Booting into safe mode gives no joy either and stops the boot up process during the drivers loading up. It used to stop at one of the AVG drivers so I used the AVG repair utility (midnight commander) to rename all the AVG stuff but then it just stops at another driver instead (now it stops at classpnp.sys).

I've done the memory check on the AVG disk which passes fine so I'm guessing I need to run some checks on the hard disk itself. I've just downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD ( Ultimate Boot CD - Overview ) but don't know which of the utilities you'd recommend I try first?

Computer Won't Start, Won't Load Repair Disks

Oct 8, 2012

I've recently been having trouble with my computer. I turned it off one day, and when I tried to turn it back on the computer would never start. It would say loading windows, and it had the windows logo and everything, but then it would just stop. I tried to go through safe mode but that wouldn't load either. So I tried using my repair disks, but the repair disks won't load up either. I went into BIOS and made it so it would boot from the CD first, but... nothing. It just goes to this grey screen with that sweepy background graphic you get when you first get windows, and does nothing.I have a laptop, Windows 7 64 bit.

Sytem Repair Disk Cannot Load - Error

Nov 27, 2009

Went into the Windows 7 control panel to make a 'system repair disk' (boot disk), just in case I ever needed it. Making the disk went OK, with Windows 7 telling me it had successfully finished, and to label the CD.

I then put the boot CD into my DVD drive to make sure it worked OK. Computer boots from the CD and Windows 7 says it has started loading files. Then the pretty blue background screen started (just like the one in the F8 repair console), and then there was a long pause and then I get the error code shown on the photo below. Clicking OK reboots the computer, and no repair options ever load.

I made two separate boot disks to rule out a bad CD, but still get the same error #

This is a brand new Dell computer, both DVD drives work fine, and burn CDs without problems.
