Windows 7 Won't Boot With RAID Configuration And IDE Controller Card
Jun 4, 2012
My win 7 machine boots perfectly with two SATA mirrored drives and a Promise Ultra 133 TX2 IDE controller card with no drives attached. But when I connect drives to either IDE1 or IDE2, the machine will not even get to win start up.

Installed a new M4 ssd today and loaded windows on it. Previously i was using 2 raptors in raid 0 for the os and programs. I re raided the 2 raptors and connected them to the jmicron ports and set them up for raid in bios, then created the raid 0 array no prob. Windows doesnt see the array when loaded up and i have the latest rst drivers installed..did this prior to the os install on the ssd. using the x58 e760a1 mobo. under device manager, the raid controller has an exclamation mark and no driver installed yet i have the latest rst 10.8.0.1003 installed..

I installed a Rosewell RC-217 Raid card (Silicon Image Sil 3124 SoftRaid 5 Controller-- in Device Manager). The card installed well in Windows 7 64 bit. No problems in device manager. The problem starts when i plug the drive in then rebooted. The boot stops at the 'Starting Window' and hangs. If i boot into windows then plug the drive in all work well. Windows sees the drive and i gave it a drive letter. works great.Problem is i can't boot my system without un-pluging the drive.

I got a PCI SATA Controller card for X-Mas though so it makes up for the temporary loss of 2 SATA ports. The card is marketed as SYBY,sold as I/O Crest brand, but bottom line is it is using a SIL3124 chipset. When I install the drivers from the SIL website, or even SYBA website, and get them installed, it screws up my windows boot record beyond repair. I have 3 HDDs attached to the SLI controller(1 TB WD Black & 2x2TB Black/Green all are SATA II drives) but on the mobo chipset(MSI P67A-G45) I have 2xIntel X25M in RAID0 plus one 2TB Black SATA III. I do not want the 3 drives on the SIL controller to be JBOD. Can any one tell me which drivers and BIOS I need for the SIL card.

Quick summary: SATA Controllers on motherboard are not working. Ordered and installed a PCI-E SATA Controller Card. Connected Hard Drive & DVD Drive to new card ports. Upon attempting to boot installed windows 7, it spontaneously restarts before loading. It seems that I need to get the Controller Card's drivers installed. i try startup repair mode, and I can load the driver and see the Windows 7 installation after that, but then I don't know how to permanantly add the drivers for this installation.

I was forced to replace my OS HDD after a failure. My original configuration was my OS on HDD #1 and then two 1TB HDD set up in raid 1 configuration. I purchased a Crucial 256gb M4 drive for my OS with the hopes of continuing to use my HDD #2 and HDD #3 as one drive in raid 1 for my data files. Upon reinstall Windows 7 booted right up but no longer were my two drives recognized as one drive. I went into the bios and changed my setting from ACHI to Raid and set the M4 as the first boot device. Upon restart no boot device was located and windows failed to start. I was able to <control-i> into my raid settings and the two 1TB are set up as raid 1 and the M4 is set as non raid drive. why I am not able to regain my original settings?

I am about to reformat my hard drive, long story as to why, but I am starting from scratch. I know how to install windows, drivers etc. But one thing I am not sure about is configuring the RAID, as I wasn't the one who did it when we installed everything. I am asunming that when I reformat the RAID will need to be reconfigured? I have RAID 5 with three hard drives, each 500 GB. I have a program called Intel Rapid Storage Technology that "manages" the hard drives, but if I am correct I have to set up RAID before installing windows. How to configure the RAID the same way I currently have it? This is a homebuilt comp, i7 930 2.8 ghz, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Gigabyte motherboard...

I've just installed Windows 7 RC build 7100 onto my system. As always like with Vista installations in the past, I run into this problem. I have a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D motherboard and for some reason my RAID drive doesn't show up. I can see the two HDs I have set up as a raid appear and separate individual drives under My Computer but can't access them unless I format them which is something I dont want to do. I checked under Device Manager and under Stoare Controllers, NVIDIA nForce RAID Controller is installed...but I think I'm missing the proper RAID tool? I'm not too sure about this.
My Device Manager lists everything as installed, but each time I restart my computer and boot up, the computer is trying to install some drives but "Failed." The prompt says, "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" x3, and all 3 Failed to install. I have no idea if this is the actual problem because I'm trying to get my RAID Stripe to work and they are both on SATA connections and not IDE...I have tried a few sets of nForce packs such as Fernandos_XP_64bit_nForce4-5_non-AHCI_WHQL_PACK_v5.4 but no avail.

I was recently deploying Windows 7 on an older PC(not too old) and in the upgrade proccess it said setup could not continue and rolled back my upgrade. I suspect that it is because of the raid, because it stopped in the middle of the expanding files stage.
The driver version on there is 1.0.0.62, which I believe is the most recent for vista, so can I rule this out as a reason. Theres 50GB free for upgrade.

I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit but when booting from the upgrade disk it has problems finding my HDD's and says that windows cannot be installed on them once found.
When choosing a clean install from loading the disk from within Vista it starts to install and then when it restarts it brings up a blue screen saying that windows cannot be installed and is I have installed any new HDD's or controllers then on uninstall them.
When trying to upgrade at first it was complaining about the ATI ACHI Compatable RAID controller not being compatable but now it starts to do the install and then on restart it does the same as the clean install.

anyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).
Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.
(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)
I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.
Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.
Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.

So I installed the Windows Seven RC x64 today on my desktop machine after having a great experience on my notebook.
Most things worked out just fine, but the onboard raid controller is giving me alot of trouble (I got two hard disks connected there, should be raid0?), my mainboard is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 an this is SiSoft Sandras report on my disk controllers:
Browsing this forum I found severel interesting posts, for example I tested the drivers of Driver and I tried the mainboard drivers for Vista in compatibility mode, but nothing works. I also looked for the "ITE IT8212 ATA RAID Controller" drivers directly, but there was nothing concerning Windows Seven. After that I tried the Released: Intel Chipset Software 9.1.1.1014 but that still did not solve anything.

Anyone managed to find Windows 7 compatiable drivers for "GigaRAID ITE8212 IDE RAID controller"?
I tried using the Vista drivers in compatibilty mode but no luck unfortunately. Issue being is that my 2nd internal hard drive is not showing up in My Computer however it is listed in device manager. This is the only item left in device manager that isnt installed properly :-(
I checked my motherboard drivers page @ GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-8I955X Pro but they only have Vista drivers listed.

I've been trying to find the drivers suitable for Windows SEVEN. I need it to use a couple of hdd in pair with RAID configuration. Before anything :I tried the RAID with VISTA64 and worked perfectly so I don't need to set that part in bios..etc..
So now it's SEVEN turn... I simply can't find the drivers... it says that they are not signed by microsoft so they can't be used.
I was trying with some controller RAID drivers from other MB...newer versions but I haven't found any good luck by far.

I have a W7 64 bit machine and I am trying to update the RAID controller driver without success.I am blocked by W7 from updating the driver and get the "Windows has determined that the best driver is already installed" message.I have tried to work around that and have been unsuccessful.Ultimately I am trying to enable a program "Hard Disk Sentinel" to view and display hard disk SMART info. Unfortunately the RAID driver controlling the HDD's on my PC have a date signature of 2009 and need to be updated to take advantage of SMART information technology

I'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:
1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)
2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"
3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).
4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.
I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.

I am going to be getting 2 new WD10EALS drives in the next day or so. My plan was to put them in raid using the onboard ICH10R controller on my mobo (an ASUS Sabertooth X58). I had wanted to run WDTLER to turn TLER on, but after reading some reviews it seems I might not be able to as it is reported WD disabled TLER on these drives completely.
Im curious if there is a way to change the timeout for the drives in the matrix storage controller? So if I do have an issue my raid won't die (I'll be using these drives in raid 0 for gaming only). I dont care about the data, I just don't want to have to go thru the hassle of reinstalling the games should a drive get dropped from the array. I am thinking about getting a wd green 2tb drive for backups but just curious if there is a way to change timeout via the controller.
edit: And by change timeout I mean how long the controller waits for the disk before dropping it from the array, like could i set it too 2.5 mins just to be sure?

I am using an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard and Windows 7 Professional. I am having a problem with my external (esata) disk drive being recognized by the OS. It used to work and now it don't?? During boot up I see the drive in the bios messages on my screen. Also when I look in device manager it shows the drive and says this device is working properly. However, when I click on "computer" its not there and no software program such as backup finds the drive either. I have tried uninstalling the drive in device manager and then rebooting. No luck? I am not sure when it quit working or why. Its not the drive as I have tried more than one and they are recognized when used in the USB port. I have uninstalled the Marvell 61xx RAID controller in the device manager also but no change?

My PC is setup with two hard drives as RAID-0 (1 partition) and it has refused to boot Windows 7 for the past few days. The computer simply shows a black screen after it goes through the BIOS screens. Pressing F8 to enter Safe Mode does not work at all. This issue has arisen after I tried installing a video card (XFX Geforce 8800 GTX) without uninstalling my old video drivers. It's still a mystery to me how installing the card would cause problems with Windows or my hard drivesHere's what I've done so far to troubleshoot:I created a System Recovery boot disk because I lack the original Windows 7 installation cd. System Restore does not work, nor does the Image function. System Repair simply hangs for an unbelievable amount of time.
After scanning my hard drives for various info, I found out that my first hdd is listed as NTFS, yet my second one is RAW. Subsequently, the C: drive is also listed as RAW, and I cannot use Chkdsk.exe on it. Through a cmd prompt, I used Bootrec.exe /FixMbr and /FixBoot, but it did not seem to fix the issue. I also used Bootrec.exe /ScanOs to see if the Windows 7 installation still existed, yet it came up with nothing.I've managed to use a program called RAID Reconstructor, via a PE Builder boot disk, in order to copy all my hard drives' sectors over to my external hard drive. The external is now hooked up to a second PC that I'm using to troubleshootIt seems that all of my personal files are intact and working perfectly fine, and the file names are also correct. I don't really know how to check my Windows/System32 files for corruption.I'd like to fix Windows 7 without having to format the hard drives. Since I lack the Windows 7 installation cd, I can only install Windows XP while lacking 64-bit support. Since I'd like to avoid this, I was wondering if there was a way to get Windows 7 back up and running. But I suppose this isn't possible without getting my second hdd back to NTFS format.

I bought a new pc, Dell, with a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card, and a Creative T6160 speaker set. The speakers should be a 5.1 surround system (and in facts i have 5 speakers + subwoofer) but it seems i can't make the subwoofer work at all. Had only 2 speakers working since yesterday, i played a little with the Creative control panel and it seems i made all 5 work together. The problem is that, from the Creative speaker test section (the one where you can make the voice play "this is the front right speaker", "this is the front left speaker" etc.) all works fine except the subwoofer. I looked at the back of my sound card and everything seems done right. Black jack is in the black hole, lime jack in the lime hole and orange jack in the orange hole. The Creative control panel recognizes them as 5.1. Still can't make the sub work. I even tried plugging the green/black jack into the orange hole and i managed to hear the "bzzzz" test sound which should come out from the sub, but nothing happens when i do the opposite (orange jack plugged in green or black hole).

I just bought a Via sata card to use with my disks. The problem is that i can't get it to work.
When i install the card it seems to get installed fine in the device manager and with the raid configurerer application that went with the driver.
But the card just doesn't recognize any harddisks. There's no change when plugging a harddisk in it. The application also seems to think that there's 4 channels on the card(there are 2) and they all show as a big red "?".
I've looked everywhere for a driver, and the newest one is a part of the old via chipset driver: 'VIA_HyperionPro_V524A'
Is it a proper Windows 7 driver i need ? and are there such?
