Windows 7 Won't Boot, Hits BSOD And Restarts

May 1, 2011

I run Windows 7 64bit.The other day the computer shut down on it's own. I turned it back on, Windows wouldn't load, it entered a loop of about 2 or 3 reboots and finally it loaded Windows 7. I thought it was just a big hiccup, and after a while i got a prompt to install some updates for Windows, some of which required a restart. After that restart the PC never booted Windows again. It took me to Startup Repair, where it couldn't fix the problem. In the log i could see "boot critical file D: ci.dll is corrupt".
Since then i've installed Windows on another HD i had, and i have accessed the problematic one connecting it as an external HD. This has allowed to scan it with several antivirus and antimalware programs; TDSSKiller found "Rootkit.Win32.TDSS.TDL4" and eliminated it. Malwarebytes found the following:

"e:Users{username}AppDataLocalTemp asdialb.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully."This however hasn't fixed the problem. Startup repair will tell me the computer cannot be fixed automatically, and if i use a recovery disk, Startup repair will tell me it can't find a problem. System restore will tell me there are no restore points (and it lists my HD as being in unit D:, when i'm positive my drive's unit is C: ).I've gone to the command prompt and tried the following:

-Chkdsk --> Found no problems
-sfc /scannow --> It doesn't run, says "system repair pending, please restart" (i've restarted a million times and it still won't run).
-bootrec.exe /fixmbr --> Completed successfully.
-bootrec.exe /fixboot --> Completed succesfully.

The problem has remained unchanged, when i try to load Windows i get the Windows logo while it's loading, then a BSOD for a few tenths of a second (too fast to read, but something about drivers) and it restarts.i can only do a repair install from within Windows, so i guess that's not an option.I've also read that this virus infects the boot sector, so formatting wouldn't help.

Fresh Install Of Windows 7 - No BSOD But Won't Shutdown Only Restarts

Oct 29, 2011

I've spent probably 7 hours trying to figure this out from searches and different potential resolutions and I am completely stumped. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium on a fairly basic machine. I can boot in to safe mode, disconnect any connection to the network, ensure WOL is turned off via the CMOS, and still Windows 7 will not shutdown. There is no BSOD.

It simply appears to shutdown, but then the computer reboots with the PC offering a beep in the same way as if I performed a cold boot. If I elect to restart this beep will not be reflected. I've tried different drivers and just about everything I can think of and still nothing. The event viewer appears almost entirely clean as well. I've also restored fail-safe defaults in the BIOS as well as Optimized and the issue persists.

Download Via Usenet And Processor Hits 100 %

Nov 22, 2009

When I boot into vista (duel boot) and try my usenet reader to download data I have no problems and the d/l speed hits 6.3 mbs per sec. when I boot into windows 7 and use the same software the e6600 processor pegs at 95-100% and the d/l speed doesn't get over 1.5 mbs per sec. The mouse cursor langs and you can't do anything untill the download is complete and all drops back to 30% memory and 5% CPU. I have tried different usenet readers with the same result. any ideas please?

Windows Restarts By Itself, Then Get Disk Boot Failure?

Nov 6, 2011

I seem to be having a problem with some disk boot failures. Two weeks ago, I opened up my computer and I got a disk boot failure. I manually closed the computer and opened it again afterwards, and the computer started up normally. Today, my computer opened up normally by itself. I left the computer alone for five minutes, but it restarted by itself and brought me back to the same screen that I saw two weeks which told me I had a disk boot failure. I manually closed my computer and opened it again, and the computer started up normally as well again.

Notebook Restarts Without BSOD?

Sep 5, 2012

I have a Acer Aspire 6920G which restarts very suddenly without BSOD. It actually made only two BSODS. analyzing the Bsods to pinpoint the cause of the restarts. It is not memory/heating/harddisk problem - already tested. It happens even when trying to boot Fedora/Ubuntu. So it must be some faulty component/module on the motherboard. In windows the PC either hangs or crashes at desktop. The crash happens the moment I click twice on my computer or just the start icon. I tried without battery and with other power supply - same issue. Safe mode works okay. I disabled all the drivers I could from msconfig but it made no difference.

Acer Aspire 5336 Won't Boot Windows 7 - Just Restarts Itself

Nov 12, 2012

My Acer Laptop won't boot windows 7, when I turn on my laptop the Acer logo and "Press <F2> to enter setup" appears. Right after that it tries to boot and just restarts itself, it doesn't get to the windows logo it just flashes white at the top left corner and just restarts continuously this way till I manually shutdown. I've tried to access the windows recovery partition by hitting F10 but it doesn't work and yes this option is enabled in the bios. I've run ram checks and hard drive checks and they both checked ok. I tried using ubuntu os and get to its first menu on bootup but whenever I want to run from disk or usb drive the screen goes blank.

CPU Temperature At Around 70C - Slowly Increases / Hits 100C And Shuts Down

Dec 9, 2010

My old computer's temperature sensor is either broken or I am doing something wrong. The general specs of it are:

Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
Intel 946G Motherboard
Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz
3 GB DDR2 533 Ram
ATI Radeon x1650 pro

When I go into bios and read the cpu temperature from there, it starts at around 70C and slowly rises until it eventually hits 100C and shuts down. This takes about 5-10 min before it hits 100C. When I enter Windows, it starts at around 60C and it actually goes up to 80C when I am playing games. This is way hotter than normal. It does not rise like in bios and goes back to 60C when idle. Prior to this, the temperature actually hit 100C and it shut down my computer. I bought a new heatsink thinking it would solve the problem, but clearly it did not. The temperature is still too hot.

Since a brand new heatsink did not work, I thought it was cpu problem for sure. I borrowed one of my friend's Celeron D and installed it. I entered bios and what do you know, it stays at 42C and does not even budge. So at this point, I'm 100% sure it's a cpu problem. I decided to buy an intel pentium D 945 3.4Ghz. I installed it and was extremely happy thinking my cpu's temperature would be decent. I entered bios and what do you know, it does exactly the same thing my 820 2.8Ghz did. It starts around 70C and the damn thing keeps on rising. So I decided to go into windows to see how the temperatures were in there. It idles at around 47-49C. When I ran prime95 for a test, the cpu went all the way up to 93C before I decided to shut it off and not do any further damage.

BSOD During CHKDSK & Random Restarts

Feb 20, 2012

Windows 7 Home Premium 64, Original Install OEM Hardware ~1 year, 3 months Original OS install

All drivers, BIOS, VBios up to date

Background: Laptop decides to randomly restart from time to time while I am playing poker and using a HUD display/hand reading program, VPN, & poker software. Not a huge load on the system, somewhat HD intensive with the hand reading from the HD.

This is the related error: Source: Kernel-Power Level: Critical Event ID: 41 It's happened 51 times since 9/14/11. No error code I've turned off where it reboots on a critical error, so I can see if I can generate an error code.

I decided to do CHKDSK, fell asleep & woke to the attached BSOD.

No BSOD / Random Restarts - Kernel 41

Oct 9, 2012

System specs:
ASUS AMD 990 FX mobo
AMD fx 6100 3.31Ghz processor
16GB corsair vengence RAM (4X4)
Kingston SSDnow100 128GB
EVGA Geforce GTX580
and of course runnig Windows 7 64 bit OS

I built my first comp last year and it was great, however now, been getting random restarts for no apparent reason. Found that it may be the HD or the PSU, switched out my PSU from a thermaltake 750w to a corsair 850w just in case, I wasn't getting enough power to my components. worked for about a day, tried feeding the power directly from wall thinking it may be the power strip, worked for a few days so I bought a new one from best buy, then a few days later it happened again.

Now I am thinking ok, now it has to be that shiny new kingston SSD!! I had a slave HD figured why not, installed Windows 7 to it, it ran fine for about 2-3 weeks, then last night BAM! instead of shooting the comp i did more research, checked the event viewer found that it is definitely a kernel 41, went to Windows site and followed a tip from them to make sure the auto restart feature was unchecked. Now I am waiting for another restart. the only thing left is the RAM.

[BSOD] Seemingly Random Event 41 Restarts?

Dec 1, 2011

What is happening: Periodic (typically once a night, different programs, different times) restarts. Event viewer says it is "Log: System / Source: Kernel-Power Event ID: 41. I am inexperienced at reading Minidumps, but one dump suggests "wininit.exe" and another "crss.exe", not a lot of help there. It has not always been doing this, but unfortunately started when I installed a whole slew of software (Adobe Production Premium, a Cintiq tablet, etc) so it's hard to pin that down.

What kind of machine:

Windows 7, fully updated
CP850 psu, p8p67 pro mobo (36c), i7 2600k chip (37c) at stock speed while I'm figuring this out.
4x G.Skill Ripjaw RAM, statistics in CPU-Z and RAMMon included. Passes memtest86.
EVGA GTX 570 card (1), drivers updated
Vertex2 SSD (OS, main programs)
WD Caviar HDD (files)
4x 180mm fans, CM212+ HSF, single optical drive

Steps tried:

Uninstalling/reinstalling major programs, updating drivers
Checking minidumps for obvious file issues
Virus scan, defrag, basic upkeep stuff
Memtest for RAM
Checking temperatures and voltages in CPUZ/Asus AI - defaulting / setting to auto the configurations in BIOS

Install Restarts After First Boot

Mar 23, 2009

I am trying to install Windows 7 Build 7000 on my computer. But it does not seem to want to continue install after the first restart.

Here is what I did:

I put in the dvd, and boot my computer from the DVD. I set the DVD to be the only boot device in the BIOS. The installer starts. I go through all the steps needed for install. It comes to the first restart, and the computer restarts. After a lot of waiting, the computer brings up the first step to the install. Where it shows the "Install Now" Button. (The install basically starts from step One again).

Not sure what I did wrong through all this. My computer Specs are AMD 6400 2.20Ghz, 2 Gigs of Ram, Clean 40 Gig IDE Hard drive, on Different IDE channel then the DVD Drive (Not sure if that is important). Linksys Wireless Add in Card, BFG Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT.

So if someone could help me get Windows 7 up and running, that would be great!

I forgot to say that I tried to install Windows 7 off a virtual drive from within XP, but that didnt seem to work after the first restart also. It did put the windows boot loader on my computer, but didnt finish the Windows 7 Install. I have a feeling that it tried to over-right my Windows XP install, because the boot loader only comes up when my XP drive is plugged in. When I tried installing 7 with the CD, I had my XP drive unplugged. So if 7 tried to install on my XP drive, how can I get the files off it, that I dont want on it anymore, and install Windows 7 on my other drive, in a XP and 7 Duel-boot.

Windows 7 Wont Complete Install Restarts Install Or Bsod?

Sep 7, 2012

First off this is a newly built computer, all fresh components. aftercleaning/activating the hdd via shift +f10 at Windows 7 setup,(which took me a day to figure out) i was very excited to see my hdd available for Windows 7 installation. as i proceed windows does its thing, after installing its time for the first restart. it restarts right back to the initial windows 7 setup ive done a lot of research, and majority of the problems seem to be the boot priority in bios. so i made sure that it was usb-hdd, then hard drive. (Windows 7 on flash drive for me, no dvd burner available). still the same thing, right back to initial setup. i tried maybe to remove the flash drive during the 10 second countdown to restart, but when it restarts, the windows splash screen comes up and then blue screens and restarts real quick. cant see what the error is on bsodthere have been a couple different start up issues, "windows did not start properly" "select version of windows to start from" (or something to that effect.) but its all the same outcome. windows 7 just wont finish installation

Boot Screen Problem: The XP Option Restarts The PC

May 8, 2009

I had Windows 7 7057 & XP running Fine, Dual Boot was working fine

On The Same Disk but different partition:

c: / Windows 7 7057

d: / XP

To install the Windows 7 RC 7100 i've formatted the c: partition and installed on it.

No problems at all during installation. Windows 7 RC is running Fine.

XP is lost, so i've tried to add it to the boot options using EasyBCD 1.7.2, FAILED. Then running as ADMINISTRATOR bcedit.exe:

i've done this:

Heres my boot "overview" takem from EasyBCD

bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"

bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=D:

bcdedit /set {ntldr} path
tldr

bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast
When i restart the Boot options appears Windows 7 and Windows Xp

But when i choose the XP option and Hit the enter key, the system immediately restarts.

Won't Boot After Universal Restore, Restarts On Atipcie64 (log Inside)

Jul 20, 2012

I wanted to do a bare metal restore aka Restore my Windows 7 hdd to another hdd for a different system with dissimalr hardware form the original rig it was on. The new rig is a ASRock N68C-S FX Motherboard. the old rig was a MSI K9A2GM. Everythig else is the same (hardware wise). I use the Acronis Backup Restore Cd (latest version) to restore my Windows 7 image and I downloaded all the latest drivers from Nvidia's site (b/c they are the manufacturer of the motherboards chipset..Geforce 7025/nForce 630a. I always get an error after the revovery (which is in the log I pasted below towards the very end). For some reason it cant find the driver for PCIVEN_10DE& DEV_03F1 SUBSYS_03F11849 REV_A3' and 'PCIVEN_10DE & DEV_03F2& SUBSYS_03F21849 & REV_A3' . Whihc I found out are my usb 1.1 and 2.0 controllers made by Nvidia. I would imagine the drivers I downloaded would have covered this. So when I try to boot up windows 7 on the new restored target drive it still restart loops when loading the ATIpcie64.sys driver. If I delete it from the Windows 7 driver folder, windows just starts into Windows start up recovery mode attempting to repair the problem to no avail.
