View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing a Netgear WNDR4500 router, and not changing anything else (settings, sleep/wake, etc.) my W7HP computer will not stay off! I have gone into the settings (via computer management) for the mouse, keyboard, and networking card, and have unchecked the box that allows those devices to wake the computer. I had the computer set to turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but changed it to 60 because the constant restarting grew tiresome. Now, after a period of time, the monitor will turn off, but the tower remains on.
I have heard of viruses causing computer crashes and shutdowns, but I have never heard of one that prevents a computer from staying off. The only way I am able to have the computer not restart (about a minute) after shutting down is to uplug the power cord after the machine is off, otherwise it simply restarts on its' own.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter taking my hard drive and placing it from my good rig into my bad rig, my bad rig won't boot off of the hard drive, at first it was giving me bsod 0x0000007b, but now it won't even BSOD, it just restarts, tries to boot, does the animated logo for about two seconds, and then switches to Windows is now loading files, and then goes to restarting but then pulls up the startup repair / boot normal screen, now of course both of these do the same thing and just keep me in an endless restart loop

Updating drivers, specifically the realtek ones.Also when I used my HDMI cable to connect to my TV as a second monitor it works for about 45mins then bluescreens.These all worked properly prior to reinstall.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically the issue is that my computer won't boot. I have had it for just over a year and have never had any issues with it. It's protected and isn't used for anything dodgy, my brother uses it for SWTOR and I use it mostly for uni work and a bit of gaming here and there. Anyway out of nowhere it failed to start. Its done this once before and last time I just told it start Windows normally and everything was fine. This time not so much.
It loads up Startup Repair even if I select start Windows normally as it fails to do so and restarts itself automatically. I left it to detect errors but when I checked it a few hours later it still said searching so I cancelled and left it. I tried again yesterday and have left it on for approximately 25 hours to no avail, it still says searching! I have a lot of stuff I haven't backed up so I want to save it. Also note that there are no pieces of hardware plugged into the machine at all, only the mouse, keyboard and monitor.

My friends lenovo ideapad (i don't remember the model now) restarts automatically.It also restarts as soon as i plug in the battery charger. There is no error log created inside windows folder. I turned off the 'Automatic restart on system failure' but, it doesn't work. After that my friend did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate x86, on the system, but the problem persists. Is it a hardware problem?

I have had this laptop approximately 3.5 years and have never had a problem until we returned from vacation a few weeks ago. I shut down my perfectly working computer and came back to beeping and auto-scroll. I have run virus scanners, registry cleaners, driver scanners, and pc cleaners and have yet to fix this problem. There is no pattern to the beeping, It will beep anywhere from 2-5 times at the Dell logo screen and then continually for approximately 100+ beeps at the Windows start screen before booting normally. My screen auto scrolls in all browsers as well as my email. I use Chrome and Thunderbird
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my boot drive and just got everythign up and running. I had removed my backup drive while I replaced the boot drive so that I could us it on another computer.
Now when I add the 2nd hard drive back to my computer I get a message saying something like "can not load os" right after the bios screen comes up and before Windows begins to load. If I unplug the second drive the computer will boot just fine.
If I access the boot menu and select my boot drive the computer will boot and my second drive will work just fine. I do not have to enter the boot menu and select the boot drive on every startup?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba laptop that runs windows 7 32bit home premium and it is not booting properly. When I turn it on t will show the microsoft logo and says "starting windows" but never gets past that point. I have tried all the fixes to no avail including, safe mode (will not boot into safe mode..starts to load but stops at drivers/atipcie.sys and sits there for a minute or two and goes to the repair startup recommended screen. I have tried startup repair and done it many times because I have read it can take several times (it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically") I have tried the windows repair disc using system restore but it says no restore points found, even though i know they are on my computer. All of my school files are on this computer and while I have some of there backed up on a external hard drive there are some more recent files that are not. What can I try without a clean install to try and repair this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHZ LAPTOP. I am a basic computer user and simply tried to upgrade to Windows 7 because when I purchased the computer in August it came with a free upgrade.
I performed the upgrade check and folllowed the Windows 7 sugestions. I hit the upgrade button and 2.5 hours later things were going fine. The last step was approx 50% finished (Trasferring files, drives, etc.)
The system retstarted automatically and I received the Bootmgr is missing. I went on the forum and found a sugestion to Boot from the DVD. I tried this and it worked. System rebboted fine. Got a message to repair or revover. I repaired the start up. That worked and now the computer starts from its own hard drive.
After startup, "starting windows", I see wa window that says Setup is starting services and then I get a window box that says, "Th computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I hit ok, the computer restarts and I eventually circle back to this screen.
Do I need to initiate something to restart the installation?
I recently got a new motherboard and installed it into my desktop. I had win7 on my HD and thought it would be a good idea for a fresh install. Well upon start up it always automatically restarts at the "Windows is starting" screen with the logo. I have tried starting in safe mode, I have tried repairing and installing with the win7 CD and a bootable win7 usb, I have tried disabling the "Automatic restart on system failure" option. Nothing is working, it just restarts and reboots just to do it again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I got this virus, I went and bought trend micro titanium and cleaned it up (was using a free30 day trial of something else) but I'm still having a problem. Whenever I go to shut down or restart my computer, it starts doing it like normal, but right at the end I get this blue screen with a bunch of messages written, it last about 5 seconds while a countdown happens at the bottom of the screen, then it restarts (even if I went Shutdown).
Sometimes minutes after I log back into the user, the blue screen comes up out of nowhere, does it's 5 second odd countdown and restarts. I should get minidump files. The countdown at the bottom of the blue screen is called "crash dump" or something like that. With the virus whenever I tried to open an internet explorer or google chrome window, all that would come up was "win 7 home security", I'm not getting that anymore though after doing the full scan with trend.
Additional info: I have windows 7, my pc is a HP Pavilion laptop, model number is DV6 - 2144TX
My friends PC restarts automatically no BOD or any error message that usually comes after the restarts.

I check to replace RAM but same thing. One more interesting thing is that it works fine in Safe mode. restarts time is random.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Build 7000 on my computer. But it does not seem to want to continue install after the first restart.
Here is what I did:
I put in the dvd, and boot my computer from the DVD. I set the DVD to be the only boot device in the BIOS. The installer starts. I go through all the steps needed for install. It comes to the first restart, and the computer restarts. After a lot of waiting, the computer brings up the first step to the install. Where it shows the "Install Now" Button. (The install basically starts from step One again).
Not sure what I did wrong through all this. My computer Specs are AMD 6400 2.20Ghz, 2 Gigs of Ram, Clean 40 Gig IDE Hard drive, on Different IDE channel then the DVD Drive (Not sure if that is important). Linksys Wireless Add in Card, BFG Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT.
So if someone could help me get Windows 7 up and running, that would be great!
I forgot to say that I tried to install Windows 7 off a virtual drive from within XP, but that didnt seem to work after the first restart also. It did put the windows boot loader on my computer, but didnt finish the Windows 7 Install. I have a feeling that it tried to over-right my Windows XP install, because the boot loader only comes up when my XP drive is plugged in. When I tried installing 7 with the CD, I had my XP drive unplugged. So if 7 tried to install on my XP drive, how can I get the files off it, that I dont want on it anymore, and install Windows 7 on my other drive, in a XP and 7 Duel-boot.
Every now and then my computer shuts down then restarts on its own. I notice that any usernames and passwords that I have set to remember are reset. I get this error in my event viewer I don't know if its related :
"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. I've just moved flat and after I did my computer keeps rebooting itself every so often. There doesn't seem to be any reason to it. I've check that all my fans are still working and that all the cables and cards and what not are corrected install and that something hasn't been knocked but everything seems fine to me. I had a wee gander round the internet and it pointed me to check my system log and the two error codes I'm getting every time this happens is: Event I.D 41 + Event I.D 6008. The I have just recently got a new Graphics card, 4gb extra of ram and a wireless adapter. These were all installed on a clean version of windows 7.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI bought a HP P6510f PC about 1.5 years ago. In the past month the computer started having problems. The first sign of problems was powering on and the computer would not boot up but instead go to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner of screen. I ran a diagnostic through the internal software, I believe it's called PC Doctor and all componenets checked out fine - RAM, CPU, Hard Drive, etc. I then decided to reinstall windows 7. After installing the computer started to work like new again, except the next day it restarted itself and went to a black screen. It's done this a few times now. Sometime it boots up fine, other times it gets stuck and won't boot, just a black screen or the HP screen welcome screen with option for setup f10 (though won't respond).
Are there ways I can check for internal malfunctioning hardware?I did go into event viewer and noticed a few errors under System and Application that I have pasted below Critical - Kernel 41 power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. My computer started randomly restarting itself and i didnt know what the problem was, i tried a variety of things and nothing worked so i decided to reinstall windows.once i did that the problem was still there. Everytime i try to install any program my computer just restarts itself, this includes windows update which i had to turn off just to use the computer.

The time between restarts shortens through continuous usage. My computer's always having problems (replaced the psu due to it getting grounded, reformatted multiple times to fix software issues). This is the first computer I've built by the way. This started after installing a game but I already uninstalled that. And the errors I get from event log are normal (from what I've gathered from other threads). I tried checking my memsticks yung memtest but it still restarts on it's own.
