Windows 7 Restarts Automatically?
Sep 22, 2012
My friends lenovo ideapad (i don't remember the model now) restarts automatically. It also restarts as soon as i plug in the battery charger. There is no error log created inside windows folder. I turned off the 'Automatic restart on system failure' but, it doesn't work. After that my friend did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate x86, on the system, but the problem persists. Is it a hardware problem?

I recently got a new motherboard and installed it into my desktop. I had win7 on my HD and thought it would be a good idea for a fresh install. Well upon start up it always automatically restarts at the "Windows is starting" screen with the logo. I have tried starting in safe mode, I have tried repairing and installing with the win7 CD and a bootable win7 usb, I have tried disabling the "Automatic restart on system failure" option. Nothing is working, it just restarts and reboots just to do it again.

After installing a Netgear WNDR4500 router, and not changing anything else (settings, sleep/wake, etc.) my W7HP computer will not stay off! I have gone into the settings (via computer management) for the mouse, keyboard, and networking card, and have unchecked the box that allows those devices to wake the computer. I had the computer set to turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but changed it to 60 because the constant restarting grew tiresome. Now, after a period of time, the monitor will turn off, but the tower remains on.
I have heard of viruses causing computer crashes and shutdowns, but I have never heard of one that prevents a computer from staying off. The only way I am able to have the computer not restart (about a minute) after shutting down is to uplug the power cord after the machine is off, otherwise it simply restarts on its' own.

I have an Asus Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHZ LAPTOP. I am a basic computer user and simply tried to upgrade to Windows 7 because when I purchased the computer in August it came with a free upgrade.
I performed the upgrade check and folllowed the Windows 7 sugestions. I hit the upgrade button and 2.5 hours later things were going fine. The last step was approx 50% finished (Trasferring files, drives, etc.)
The system retstarted automatically and I received the Bootmgr is missing. I went on the forum and found a sugestion to Boot from the DVD. I tried this and it worked. System rebboted fine. Got a message to repair or revover. I repaired the start up. That worked and now the computer starts from its own hard drive.
After startup, "starting windows", I see wa window that says Setup is starting services and then I get a window box that says, "Th computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I hit ok, the computer restarts and I eventually circle back to this screen.
Do I need to initiate something to restart the installation?

Yesterday I got this virus, I went and bought trend micro titanium and cleaned it up (was using a free30 day trial of something else) but I'm still having a problem. Whenever I go to shut down or restart my computer, it starts doing it like normal, but right at the end I get this blue screen with a bunch of messages written, it last about 5 seconds while a countdown happens at the bottom of the screen, then it restarts (even if I went Shutdown).
Sometimes minutes after I log back into the user, the blue screen comes up out of nowhere, does it's 5 second odd countdown and restarts. I should get minidump files. The countdown at the bottom of the blue screen is called "crash dump" or something like that. With the virus whenever I tried to open an internet explorer or google chrome window, all that would come up was "win 7 home security", I'm not getting that anymore though after doing the full scan with trend.
Additional info: I have windows 7, my pc is a HP Pavilion laptop, model number is DV6 - 2144TX

I check to replace RAM but same thing. One more interesting thing is that it works fine in Safe mode. restarts time is random.

I started having this problem about 2 hours ago, when suddenly my laptop that worked perfectly fine for nearly 2 years just rebooted itself. It is now rebooting about every 5 mins and I can't do anything about it. I tried to start it in safe mode and it did not reboot.

I recently installed windows 7 64-bit ultimate using a clean install since i had windows xp. Everything installed ok. The problem I'm having is that when i shut down, it automatically restarts instead of shutting down. It runs through the BIOS and POSTS as if i restarted. There are no errors listed when it restarts. It's as if i pressed restart instead of shutdown. The only way i can turn off my computer is when i hold down my power button for 3 seconds.

Today, 5/1 I received quite a few win updates to install. After installing all my PC started restarting itself every few minutes. I went to system recovery and to the restore point created and then all was OK. I installed the updates a few at a time until I was able to recreate the problem and then narrowed to KB 2506014 for W-7 x64 based systems.

I have been having some ongoing issues with my PC. The latest is that it will restart itself consistently whenever I am playing any game from Shogun 2 to Starcraft 2 to Skyrim to League of Legends. It does not BSOD, it only restarts itself whenever I am in game. Sometimes it does it right away as soon as I start the game, other times it goes for twenty minutes before it restarts. My PC is an Alienware AURORA_R2, Processor is Intel Core i5 760 @ 2,80Ghz, 12.0 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium and Service Pack 1. My Display adapters are two ATI Radeon HD 5670 cards.

Had this problem on a Dell XPS M1330 running Vista and then upgrading to Win 7 64bit. Try flashing or updating BIOS first. Then unplug and replug (or replace if bad) the CMOS battery to reset BIOS. Remember CMOS holds the settings in BIOS. So when no power to CMOS, BIOS settings get wiped out (BIOS tells your pc what to do when it starts). Reset to default settings in BIOS. This fixed my restart issue! I tried all kinds of fixes and this was the only one that worked! Not all are software related issues. Any hardware changes can cause this problem like adding a IDE drive to a SATA board. Make the drive a slave changing it from cable select for example.

After installing Windows 7 dual boot with XP on a Gateway 700LTD, I cannot shut it down. The PC restarts about a second after seemingly normal shutdown. Same now with the XP side, although I can get XP to hibernate while Windows 7 won't even do that - restarts seconds after it goes into hibernation. BIOS settings are all at default. No peripherals attached yet.
Gateway 700S Pentium 4 1.8ghz x1
Intel Board D850GB AAA 49507-904 Bios p13 (v2.3)
528mb RAM NVDIA GeForce2 MX400
Creative SB Live sound
Needs BIOS update but only avail on floppy. Also won't boot from CD.

I recently built a new setup using two 350GB Western Digital SATA hard drives. They are raided and until today I've had no trouble with the computer at all. When turning my computer on it loads to the Windows logo (the pulsing coloured "squares" ) and after 10 seconds or so it reboots. When booting up it detects my raided drive however when I insert the Windows 7 cd to enter the repair menu it doesn't see the drive. What I mean is on the screen where you choose the OS to repair, it does not appear. It DOES appear, however, after inserting a USB device with my raid drivers on it and then locating them first. The trouble is, the first time I did this it detected my 700GB raid drive (or approx 630GB space). The second time, however, it only detected my old 200GB drive which I store music on. After switching to different SATA ports as suggested by another post I found on the net, I then encountered a 0xc000000F error which reads "0xc0000000f. Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". I tried doing a MBR repair but I don't think it worked.

I'm not exactly sure why, but for some reason windows 7 (ultimate) will automatically restart itself upon load up. The computer is about 8 or 9 months old, every part in it is that old except a much older 200 gig harddrive. ( Intel i7-930, Radeon 5770, 6 gigs Patriot DDR3 Ram, Sabertooth mobo ) So yeah, safe mode works just fine, no other f-8 option works however. And for some reason, all of my system restores have been deleted. So I have no previous system restore date to revert back too. Safe mode is the only mode I can get the computer to run on. I've tried the MSconfig route and turned off all my programs ( except those required by microsoft ) and managed a successfull boot that way, but then however my internet doesn't work, my sound, or even video. So I'm at a loss and not particularly sure what to do.

my laptop is restarting itself on windows (7, 64-bit) start up. Sometimes it manages to fully load up but then within 10 minutes it will suddenly restart.I can load safe mode with no issues and even after running it for a period of time it does not seem to shut down. I tried starting it up only the basic microsoft startup services but it still crashed.I've run chkdsk, startup repair and some hardware memory diagnostic thing and they all came back fine.Laptop has been in to get serviced and they told me they found nothing wrong with it and sent it back. I start it up and within 5 seconds of it trying to load windows it restarts. also, I've tried to reinstall windows but it freezes during installation.
Here are some system specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
System Manufacturer: Toshiba
System Model: Satellite A300
Processer: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 @2.40ghz
Memory: 4GB RAM

I am running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit installed on a partition size of 270GB.The system worked for two months. Now when I start the pc, after the bios screen I get "Windows is loading files with a white completion bar.As soon as the bar gets completed or is full the system restarts.I tried start up repair from the install dvd using repair my computer. The message is failed to repair.Could not find os loader. Its a single boot system without third party boot loader.Tried restoring with an image backup. There is no difference. When memory diagnosis is selected from the repair options the pc restarts and the windows memmory diagnosis tool runs without any errors and on completion of the test windows boots normally. But if I restart or shutdown the pc the next time the system reboots after windows is loading files.I have interchanged the memory modules to and from another system to confirm the memory. The memory modules does not have any problem.

I usually try and fix any computer error's by Googling the crap out of it until I fix it myself as I hate to be defeated but I have a problem that just started about a week ago and wont stop. I watch alot of movies online through streaming and recently the shows that i usually watch without a problem started taking alot of time to load and then as i start to play it freezes on me. What happens is I still hear the video but the picture freezes on me and then the browser starts flickering on and off the not responding. After it flickers and tries to fix the problem itself the screen goes black and computer shuts off then restarts. Im not sure what is going on but my whole windows 7 seems to be going so slow lately with slow startups as well.

Few weeks old HP PC, Windows7 Home Premium, 64 Bit
Still fighting my problem with Windows Explorer shutting down periodically,
every 1/2 to 1 hour, fixing itself, and restarting. Really annoying to say the least, as the re-starts wipe out a few of the icons in the notification area of the Taskbar at bottom. Takes about a minute or so for the"re-fixing" to be accomplished.
Anyway, some of the error msgs in the Event Log had ATI mentioned.
Thought this might be a problem with my ATI graphics card.
There are two Users on PC, and the other user says he never, ever, gets any of these error messages, so it's hard to see that it's a graphic card problem, as the card, I would think, is active irrespective of the user. True ?
This morning the error message were different.
It said: "the Device detected a Controller error onDeviceHarddisk5DR5"
I will past the error descr. below.
Is this my main PC HD ? I only have one.
But I do use External HD's for backups.
Think the HD is about to quit ?
Have so many error msgs, that I was wondering if there is any way of opening my Event Log (viewer) to all on-line so you experts can have a peek at it? Other than posting one or two descriptions here, posting them all doesn't seem practical.
Any suggestions ?
