Windows 7 Crashes While Browsing Then Restarts On Its Own?
Dec 28, 2011
Computer will shut down when browsing the web then restart on its own. This started about 6 months ago, just once in a while, but seems to be more frequent now. My event log for two days is listed below.
OS- Windows 7 64 bit
Inspiron 560
Intel (R) core 2 quad cpu

I have just built a brand-new rig from entirely new parts 2 days ago, and at random times when I'm browsing the web, my screen goes black, and nothing responds. After restarting my computer, this problem persists, although never on the same pages. I run Windows 7 SP1, and have all the new updates. I use chrome as my browser, but it has never done this to me before on any of my previous computers.
My PC specs are as follows:
i5 3570K
Xigmatek Dark Knight Cooler
Asus PZ77-V LK MOBO
8GB Corsair Vengance DDR3/1600 RAM
MSI HD7770 Power Edition OC 1GB/GDDR5
1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM HDD
Seasonic S12II Bronze 620W PSU
Samsung DVD/CD Burner
NZXT Phantom 410 Mid-Tower Chassis
Although I do not believe it to be a memory issue, I have run memtest and gotten 3 passes in a row. I have not otherwise run any diagnostic or stress tests on my PC, as I am not familiar with how to do so.

Recently, my computer has started freezing while I'm browsing the web. No BSOD or resetting, it just freezes and I have to hold the power button to get it back.I don't think it's over heating, or memory or any of that because I can happily play games hour hours with no issues.I can watch films,or streaming media for hours and it's fine. It only crashes while surfing or talking on Steam.
MSI P67C45 (still haven't got my B3 replacement :O)
i5 2500k (standard clock, with the 'turobo boost' ability engaged)
4gb (2x2) G.Skill Ripjaws X (I think. Can't remember freqs but I'll dig it out if somehow important)
Nvidia GTX260
Corsair F240 SSD (lucky competition win ) with the OS on
1TB HDD - got the pagefile set up on this drive so I don't burn the SSD

Whenever I go to the "Programs and Features" module in Win 7 I get the trusty old, "Explorer has stopped working and is restarting" my taskbar goes for a split second and P&F closes. I have gone to Event viewer to look for a reason and 9 out of 10 crashes acording to the faulting module is "msi.dll" Isn't msi the Microsoft installer? Anyway, how can I go about fixing this or troubleshooting it? It is to say the least annoying. My Computer is an Acer laptop Win 7 HP x64/8gb RAM /Core i5 430Mprocessor.

I just came back after a few days out, and for some reason my PC cashed several times today. So my PC will restart (more like crash) after I log-in, it is random, it can crash in a few seconds or a few minutes. Last time I used my PC, the "5,6,7" keyboard buttons didn't work (Logitech G15), I usually shutdown my PC every time I go to sleep or go out). I know that the computer crashes because, when I boot I get a screen telling me windows did not shut down correctly and I can use windows normally or with safe mode. PC specs:Windows 7 32 bitnVidia 260 GTX 4 g"b ddr2 ramIntel E8500 Duo 3.16 GHz Antivirus:Avast free + malwarebytes free I've tried to find solutions for the problem and even:- Tried to open case, and tighten cables.

My computer keeps randomly restarting. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the Internet or playing games it will just happen randomly. It crashes most frequently during the boot up after the initial crash. system repair will give me a few extra minutes but it eventually crashes again. When rebooting it will turn off and on and ONE of my case fans which is connected to my motherboard will flicker on and off. i have other fans connected to the board that do not do this.
I've never posted here so I'm not sure what I should include in this post but here are my parts.
Motherboard: gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ 970 R
Video Card: Radeon HD 7770 1G
Power Supply: Corsair HX750 750W
CPU: AMD Phenom II 3.4G AM3 R
Memory: 4Gx2 Vengeance
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA 6.0 32M
Windows 7 Home edition 64bit
Things I've done:
-booted in safe mode (still crashed and restarted)
-system restore (still crashed but less frequent)
-checked and secured power connections to the mother board
-sysstem repair (same as restore)
-Began a virus scan but computer crashed before it could finish
-checked CPU heat (remains 35-45 degrees Celsius even while playing games)

I've run into a problem recently with my computer. I haven't played any games since early in the year and, if I remember correctly, haven't installed or changed anything much since then. But when I went to boot up Sims 3 for my cousin it repeatedly crashed while on the loading screen. I put this down to their awful patches and typically buggy games. But I today I went to start Skyrim and the same thing happened.
As soon as the loading screen finished my computer switched off and restarted. This happens repeatedly - I cannot get further than the loading screen without my computer restarting. I've played both of these games without any issue in the past year. I've since cleaned out the inside of my PC, updated the BIOS and drivers, and monitored the temperatures for the CPU and GPU. Everything seems normal.
My specs are:
Intel Core i7 950
Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit
Asus P6TD Deluxe
AMD Radeon HD 6800
4GB RAM

I've followed the instructions. I get almost 5-6 BSOD in a day. The blue screen appears and it shows dumping memory... 10% ... 50% 100% then my PC restarts. Another major problem is that I frequently get "Windows Explorer has stopped working". It fixes itself when I restart. But it's hassle to restart everytime.

I built a brand new computer for the holidays and it has been working fine. brief run down of hardware would be:[CODE]The computer has been running flawlessly using a 55" tv as a monitor with graphics on ulta for 2 weeks or so, there is barely anything installed on the computer besides necessary programs and 1 or 2 games at the moment. For the 2nd time now the computer has shut down instantly giving no warning, displaying no errors or coming back with any errors after running Windows 7 trouble shooters, the first time the computer had been on all day so I thought maybe over heating. But this second time the computer was only on about 5 minutes and did the same thing, I put a lot of time and is the first computer ive built so I would like to fix it before anything gets damaged but im not sure where to start

[code] Now here is what has been going on since 26/05, While I was playing "World of Tanks" the game froze, sound was stuck and screen turned black with white stripes, I had to force a restart, the minidump was accusing a dll file of nvidia's which when I searched for on the internet it sounded like a random hiccup of Nvidia and it only happened once so I ignored it. But the game started crashing to the desktop since then but not very often, it never did that with my older pc, so I don't know if it's from the game side or my side.Yesterday around 8pm, I was about to transfer a 7gig folder from my main disk to the storage disk, as soon as I opened the partition that I was transfering to, I had a blue screen saying only "Unknown hard error", I force restarted and the MB resat the Bios and it restarted again and since then windows wouldn't boot, it kept asking for repair and during that repair it said "System was unable to boot" several times and after the many repair runs it kept saying it failed to fix the problem. Then I unplugged my storage HDDs and only left the system HDD, booted from windows 7 DVD and tried to repair but still said it couldn't fix the problem, in the report it said there was a problem with ci.dll, so I started "command" tried these commands (bootrec.exe /fixboot, bootrec.exe /fixmbr, bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd) after that I restarted and windows booted perfectly, right after that I shut down the computer, plugged in the 2 other HDDs, windows booted perfectly then all of the sudden, the keyboard wasn't responding (not even it's leds were working) same thing with my mouse, I looked at the HDD led and it wasn't doing anything at all, no small flickers or anything, so I force restarted, it booted like normal, I started to transfer a folder to 1 of my storage HDDs, opened up firefox, it was acting really slow, everything I was doing on it was lagging although nothing was draining the CPU or ram or anything, opened few pages, when the transfer was about to finish, the pc restarted.
After the restart, the event log says "kernal power" event id 41, category 63 and it didn't give me any minidumps. Anyway I went to sleep around 3AM, left my downloads running and was hopping nothing would happen but something sure happened, the event log says at 4:30 AM "The Windows Modules Installer service entered the stopped state." then no new events till 6:45 AM which was a warning saying "TCP/IP has chosen to restrict the scale factor due to a network condition. This could be related to a problem in a network device and will cause degraded throughput." No other events till I had waken up at 10:37 and found the monitor turned off not responding, HDD led completely off, no flickers, basically nothing was responding. So here I'm don't know what the hell am I supposed to do, I have a decent knowledge regarding windows problems, but this problem is too open and wide, is it 1 of my hard disks? is it the lonely GPU I have right now? is it the ram? is it the CPU? I need some guidance on how to eliminate each of them.before the MB resat the Bios, the CPU was overclocked to 4.2GHz and I tested it many times and it was very stable, so when the system hanged after the boot problem was fixed, there was no overclocking involved, there was no heating issue, temps were normal, I have a 1000w plus gold certified PSU.

At my home network my pc runs just nicely. But today I moved it to my friends place and for some reason all surfing is really slow, like google.com takes up to 30-40 seconds to load.Using my laptop computer it loads in about a second on the same network.I am on a 4mb/500kb connection and nothing else is using the network. It doesn't matter if I use a cable to connect to the router or a wireless usb thingie.Speedtest and download speeds are just fine, but surfing around on internet pages is very slow.Hardware is a I7 at 3.9Ghz, 4GB ram, plenty of free diskspace.Router is a netgear cvg824g and all settings there looks normal.OS is windows 7 64bit all updated, all drivers updated too.Monitoring the network I can see almost no traffic.Under network properties I have disabled all but the TCP/IPv4 options.

recently i have been getting choppy audio in win 7 when browsing. watching Internet or twitch in fullscreen makes both the video and audio choppy and distorted. i have also had problems just by loading webpages or simply scrolling through long pages, this occurs with Internet and twitch as well as music that isn't being streamed. this happens in both firefox 18 and chrome but i doubt that is the problem. i have tried both flashplayer 15 and 10.3 without any changes, again not a suspect because the problem is audio outside of browsers as well. i don't think it is my headphones because it is happening on all of my headsets, but i will note that my old headphones broke and i am currently using replacements.

I recently bought a new desktop (Dell Intel core i5 2500 processor, 8gb ram, Windows 7 64bit Pro version). It is set up for automatic updates and I have not tweaked or added anything except Norton anti virus software. I am running IE9 (v9.02).
Yesterday I went to check up in IE9 Browsing History for a site I had visited earlier and found it was only displaying internal sites on my desktop visited. None of the various websites I had visited showed up. I looked back to earlier days and it was the same, nothing except internal searches.
I looked on the web for fixes, and found suggestions to check Internet options to check if it was set to Delete Browsing History when exiting search. It is not. Also to check if I am running In Private Browsing. I am not. And to try a reset of IE9 - I did and it made no difference.
I also have a Samsung Netbook running Windows 7 starter and the same version of IE9 (9.02) also running Norton anti virus and that is working just fine. So is it related to having Windows 7 64 bit version? Is there a fix?

I am looking for some advice or suggestions on something that has bugged me on windows 7 since i started using it back when it was released.I have quite a large (almost 200 gig) music collection, and browsing for music to listen to has always been a bit of a chore.Wondering if any of you know of a way to go back to XP style album art folders like this:The one on the left looks so much nicer! It always made me think Microsoft had take a backwards step by doing away with the old folders!Oh and 1 other thing. When you try to group a folders contents by 'Name' does anyone know if there is a way of modding windows so that you can sort by: A,B,C,D etc etc, rather than the standard A-H > I-P > Q-Z ??

I have this slight problem, ok well more like an annoyance. When I click on the lower left file icon (next to the start button) It of course opens up a window to view my hard drives, favorites, desktop, etc. The issue is it now opens up an additional window every time I click on something I want to browse in my hard drive. For instance if I want to watch an episode of Family Guy on my PC I first click on the small file icon then " Fmovies/Family Guy/Season 10"I have 4 separate windows pop up to finally view the file I want to reach and have to close each one whenever I'm done. Some files are deeper embedded in my PC so I sometimes have to close up to 6-7 windows. It's an extreme annoyance. I clearly remember when I first installed Win 7 that it would just open one window and would browse anywhere in my hard drive and wouldn't pop open any additions windows.

i have a self-built pc that i have been using for about 2 years. i have had problems with bsod in the past and recently reinstalled my operating system (windows 7 64 bit) about 2 weeks ago. in the past few days i have been getting nonstop bsod, about 5+ per day although not all are being shown in the dump files according to bluescreenview. usually i am not doing anything when these occur except browsing the internet or listening to music on Internet. sometimes i will have a game minimized in the background while i am doing work. i have had these problems before but have not been able to put my finger on what is causing them. i have attached requested files with my computer specs, so if there is any advice you can give me or any insight into what might be causing these, please let me know. it is difficult for me to understand on my own because most errors are different according to the bluescreenview reports.

I am running Windows 7 Upgrade on a Dell Inspiron desktop. As of Thursday, June 16 after Windows Update and McAfee Update, I have had difficulty browsing the internet, alhtough I have internet connection. After hours of phone conversation with Dell and my IP, hours more of online chat, I am still not satisified anything has been corrected. I am currently connected to the internet through problem computer. Wired, DSL. I replaced phone and ethernet cable. Dell support basically useless as they want big bucks to fix problem and I can barely understand them. My IP spent 6.5 remotely accessing computer, eventually giving up, claiming that they had met their match. I have done two clean installs, but after Windows update, the problem returns. I clean installed a third time this afternoon. Downloaded MSE, updated and that went without incident. I have been browsing and researching this issue at many sites and forums, this evening. I hesitate to update Windows further, as I have finally returnd successfully to the internet. McAfee is not currently installed. I have of intention of installing it. I'll give MSE a try. Can anyone provide possible answers to what is causing the conflict (if that is what it can be called) with browsing after Window 7 update? The modem disconnected occasionally, but according to my IP is working properly. Computer appears to operate fine otherwise, just the browsing.

So, after going through every trick in the book, I was unable to make browsing happen on a 64bit Windows 7 (any and every browser would randomly hang the system completely), so my only option was to switch to 32bit.The first installation failed and got stuck in a black screen with a frozen cursor. After a restart the installer told me I could continue the installation after a reset, so I did that, only to be greeted with the same message. This happened over and over a few times, so I figured it's not going to work and I'll have to make a fresh install. Then something mysterious happens and I'm not yet sure what exactly happened. In any case, the end result was that I still had some of my 64bit installation remaining including some files I downloaded while trying to make it work in addition to my 32bit installation on my other drive (which I was not planning on formatting). The only explanation I can come up with is that I somehow managed to format the wrong drive, not once, but twice.
And this is where my current problem begins. I'd very much like to format the drive with the 64bit stuff, but Windows won't let me. I've tried doing it from the command prompt but it says "Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode." I'm the system admin! How can I not have sufficient privileges? And what is "elevated mode"? Ok, so on we go to the Disc Manager. This time I'm greeted with "Windows cannot format the system partition on this disk.".Actually, now that I think about it, I suppose booting from the CD might do the trick. Still, for some reason the installer takes its time starting (was much faster in for the 64bit version) and I'm getting tired of playing with the boot order, anyway. So, I'm wondering if there is any way to format a disc with system files from another Windows installation without going through the CD boot.

I formatted my old PIII and installed Windows 7 Pro. Here below my configuration:
AOPEN AX34, P3 1.0 GHz, 1,5GB RAM, WD 120 GB, Pioneer DVR-116D, Plextor PX-716A, HIS 9600 256Mb, Canon i865, Windows 7 PRO
Now, this PC is only meant to run 2 programs and some browsing. The programs are not a problem they are running well, browsing it is. Essentially, with IE 9.0 it does not move, it takes ages to load pages. With Chrome is much better but still unacceptable for ordinary browsing. Is there any tweak I can do to improve the browsing experience? Also, is there a way in the registry to change (temporarily) the RAM parameter and let an application I want to install to believe I have 2GB instead of 1.5GB? Otherwise, that application will not install as they require 2GB min. RAM.

So now I use Firefox 4 since its been decent with me. I have no clue what went wrong since the upgrade was successful. My router is fine, but browsing speed is just super slow. It wasn't like this before I upgraded. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

The problem I'm having is that when i shut down, it automatically restarts instead of shutting down. It runs through the BIOS and POSTS as if i restarted. There are no errors listed when it restarts. It's as if i pressed restart instead of shutdown. The only way i can turn off my computer is when i hold down my power button for 3 seconds.
