Windows 7 Install Hangs?
Jan 26, 2012I have spent all day failing to install Windows 7 on my system. The only thing I have done since the last successful install is to create a RAID 5 using 3 259GB HDDS. The system worked when the 3 HDDs were not RAIDed, but now installation hangs after the second restart. All I get is the black screen with the mouse arrow; nothing else. I tried the cmpmgmtloader solution and disabled the network adaptor and usb controller which were showing as having problems. I even tried un-RAIDing the HDDs and going back to the original state and still it hangs.

Feb 23, 2011I have downloaded SP1 for W7-x64 with Windows Update. It's trying to install now, but has been on "installing update 1 of 1" for over two hours at about 1/3 of the progress bar.
Is this a known issue? I have had problems installing other Windows updates too and hoped installing SP1 would fix this once and for all.

Mar 16, 2011I'm putting together a HTPC using a ASUS E35M1-I Deluxe (AMD Zacate mobo/cpu combo), 30GB Kingston SSD, and 4Gb Crucial DDR3 1066.Problem is when I boot from the Windows install disk I get the "Windows is Loading Files" status bar but when it gets the end it just hangs there. Usually it boots right into the next Windows loading screen. So before I start troubleshooting I want to make sure there's nothing special I need to do with the SSD before installing Windows. Its a brand new drive but I'm pretty certain during the installation process there's a Format option. The Windows install disk was burned from an ISO using IMG Burn at 16x. Before I left for work I started another burn (with img verification) at 8x. But I'm not certain that will help. I've burned plenty of images at 16x speeds without issue.

Nov 17, 2009When I run the Windows 7 Home Premium OEM disc I get past "loading files" and then freeze on "starting windows". I see 4 little colored balls in the center of the screen (guessing the start of the MSFT logo) and then everything freezes.
Here's what I've got:

Power Supply: Corsair 950w 80 Plus Power Supply
GPU: 5850 is backordered, so am using an old Nvidia 6600 GT to attempt to install Windows - connected to monitor with DVI cable
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium OEM
I've done lots of research and tried:
1. Using a PS2 keyboard/mouse
2. Disabling USB in bios
3. Disabling just about everything else in bios
4. Tried w/ 2MB, 4MB and 6MB ram
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Clean Install Hangs At Starting Windows Screen
Nov 30, 2009I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit. It hangs at the starting windows screen and does nothing more. No HDD activity or anything. Let it sit all night like that to see if it would go any further, but it didn't. Anyone else have this experience, and if so, what did you do to make it work?

Jan 6, 2010After recently building a custom PC, I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 (64 bit) and all goes well through the installation process (loading, expanding files, etc) except when after the 2nd restart when it starts up for the first time. It freezes or hangs on the black “starting windows” screen (the one with the new colored windows logo).
I have tried installation a number of times, including with a bare bones configuration (2 Gb RAM, 1 HDD, 1 DVD Drive, GPU, and all other peripherals disconnected) and still the same thing happens. I have also tried the process using the VGA cable instead of the DVI.
I was able to successfully install XP after failing to install Win7, so I don't think my HDD is bad. I am also using a PS/2 Keyboard

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad (Q9650) 3Ghz/1333Mhz/12MB
MBoard: Asus P5K-E
GPU: Sapphire HD 2600XT
HDD: 2 x WD 640 Gb 7200/32MB/SATA 3.0Gb/s (Caviar Black WD6401AALS)

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) OEM system builder pack
All components were purchased new from Newegg. I also have some peripherals: 2 DVD drives, Multi card reader, extra USB, firewire ports, wireless LAN card (although I disconnected those for the initial install attempt).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am really at a loss to figure this one out. Could it be something to do with my video card driver? (Do I need to install that in the BIOS?)--I can see everything fine on my monitor though.
PC Hangs On Black Screen During Shutdown - Fresh Install Windows 7 SP1
Oct 17, 2012I recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine. As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant firewire port I unhooked from the Mobo. I then booted and peformed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down. Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive.
I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processers and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates). Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down. One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting, just shutting down...
Windows 7 Wont Install, Hangs At Splash Page On Boot?
Oct 22, 2011I regularly clean and reinstall windows on my computer, but this time it won't work. I am trying to upgrade my system from 32 bit to 64 bit, and when I try to boot (from DVD or flash drive) it gets to the windows splash page but never gives the option to install. It's just the mouse on a blue background.
I've done everything I can think of, even downloaded a pirated version to see if it would make a difference!
System Hangs After Install?
Aug 21, 2010I had a copy of windows on my computer for about 3 months (non legit key) and with being happy with the O/S i decieded to go out and buy a copy and do a fresh install.Since installing, my 200gb HDD will no longer boot past BIOS post. I dropped it from the system and left my other 300gb HDD in and installed it to the HDD no worries, boots up fine and can use win 7. I then did a software update and now it gets stuck on the windows startup screen....

Dec 28, 2012I recently got a new asus laptop and some of my programs aren't compatible with windows 8. So i'm trying to downgrade to windows 7 because i never liked w8 in the first place. So when i boot from CD (64-bit windows 7 ultimate) it will install without any problems, but when it gets to the 'starting windows' screen the animation freezes and it just stays there.

Jul 10, 2009I've been trying to perform a clean install the latest 32-bit Windows 7 RC and keep encountering indeterminate problems.
After updating to the latest BIOS, resetting all BIOS settings, and removing all of my peripherals, sound card, and video card (I used built-in video for the most recent install attempt), I still get either a BSOD (Stop 0x0000001a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT) or a hang (with misc. video distortion) at some point during the install, usually after 'expanding files' during the windows install. A few times the screen has just gone blank.
(Before doing all this, I was getting IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL BSODs, but those seem to have gone away after I removed everything).
As background, the system successfully passed the upgrade advisor and completes the memory test available from the boot loader and has been a rock-solid XP machine for 2 years (although I'm not doing an upgrade install)
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I could sit around and twiddle BIOS memory settings, I suppose, but I'm hoping someone can suggest a more principled approach.

I looked at the logs but didn't see any errors. All my systems are custom built using Vista ultimate OEM additions.I was successful installing the software as a new install.I updated all the drivers.

May 18, 2012Okay so I may have buggered something up royally, but I took the CPU out of my mom's computer. Ended up dusting it out, because it was overheating. I wanted to try the phenom out in my board so I swapped them out. It is an HP pavilion a6755y se. I put an Athlon x2 in it and it wouldn't post. I took it out and put the phenom back in and now it won't boot to windows. I reformatted the entire drive and to no avail it still didn't work. I disconnected all USB's attached and I am using a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. This is really frustrating to me. It loaded the default bios settings from when I took the CMOS battery out. Had to change the Sata controller to IDE. When put on ACHI it gave me a screen full of colorful boxes that flashed and really scared me. I am very frustrated and I am wondering where I should go from here. My mom is pissed and she wants her computer back to normal conditionDunno how to flash the bios. It reads all the ram and the phenom that is in its socket so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Although, I can't get a livecd to run for the life of me. I dunno what I have done, but I would like to fix it asap even if it needs new parts. It did take quite a bit of force to get the heatsink off the cpu when I was dusting

Aug 12, 2012So I just did a new custom built comp and got Windows 7 Professional for it. I burnt it to a DVD from the ISO I got from the Microsoft Store. It would freeze at the Starting Windows screen just after the 4 dots converged into the logo.
Things I've tried:
-One stick of RAM
-Installed on same HDD on another computer rig (Booted fine until I brought it back to my new rig. Then it wouldn't boot on neither)
-Memtest
-USB Boot installer
I also have all the unneeded peripherals out.

So here I am. My PC appears to be running smoothly, but I don't know if there's any hidden damage in the system. I still want to clear out any residue from the failed install before I download the patch again, but now I'm wary of using System Restore. Also, the MSE update notification has me puzzled - the last restore point I tried to restore to preceeded an MSE definitions update, but that restore failed (didn't it?) and anyway, I don't normally recieve definitions update notifications from "Solve PC Issues". This las left me unsure where my system is at restore point-wise right now.

Jul 31, 2012I have an Acer Aspire One A0751H that's been running Windows XP on a HDD. I've replaced that drive with a 120GB Sandisk SSD and I'm trying to install Windows 7 from an external DVD. I select the custom install path and select the single unallocated partition for installation. It works fine up to the point where it says "Copying Windows files (0%)..." where it hangs. No progress, cursor freezes, no response. The only other change I've made to the machine is to upgrade the RAM to 2GB of Corsair.I've disabled all other boot devices in bios (no floppy drive)

Nov 15, 2009OK, I had the issue that several people have had with windows hanging at the "Starting Windows" Screen. I discovered that disabling the USB 2.0 Controller in BIOS allowed me to finish the install, and boot into windows normally. I re-enabled the controller and booting into windows hangs at the same place as before...turning it back off fixed it again.
My problem is that my only disk drive is a USB external drive, and I will probably be doing some file transfers using USB...I need the speed. Installing windows took a LONG time at USB 1.1.
Flashing to new BIOS and running windows update will be tried today to see if that will solve the issue but I wanted to post to see if anyone had some ideas that I hadn't thought of.
Install Hangs With Black Screen And Watermark Only
May 6, 2009Using a booting USB and selecting clean install, the install completes mostly, it reboots a few times like normal. When it should be time to enter the key, the screen is completely black *except* for the Windows 7 watermark.
Are there any known issues with this board and the on-board graphics chip?

Cq61 Clean Install Hangs At Competing Installation
Dec 19, 2012My daughters CQ61 required a clean install after repair. Windows 7 jus goes through the normal install process and hangs at completeing installation. I'm not a Noob but not a Geek either. I can only assume the drive is fine as it is running fine in the T400 IMB i am using now. Now here is the strange bit..... When i was just starting out i to had a CQ61 and it too needed a clean install and it did the same for months with friends in th know looking and trying to. In the end i send off for the factory software discs and tey went on straight away with win7 working fine. It was literally restored to new. I passed on said disks when i sold said CQ61 adising the guy never to go down the road i had. Now the software discs are no longer available from HP and There is none on torrents anywhere. I cannot accept that this is the only way to install clean install. If it was that critical to have the discs they would send them out with the new machine. So thats muti attempts by multiple people on 2 identical machines presenting the same hang. One was solved with the Sowfwaredisks provided by HP and are no longer available. Should have copied them i know but never thought i would be looking down the same barrel of the same gun.

I'm in safe mode right now and no such problems are currently present. This is a newly built computer and the OS is installed on an SSD. After installing Windows I installed drivers from three CDs in the following order: graphics card, sound card, mobo/chipset. No problems appeared to occur. I think prior to installing these drivers Windows was okay as I recall looking up why my internet wasn't working(turned out I need the LAN driver from the latter driver CD)

Feb 8, 2013My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues. First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found.
I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze). Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard. I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!
Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. I've not checked her machine in a while so there are many updates; however, when I just choose 1 at a time, it still sits at 0% and never moves. The printer, when connected, is with the USB and I've tried all 4 USB ports on this just in case. Am still in touch with HP but they are sending me the usual links so I'm hoping perhaps someone here can think of something a little less ordinary!
PC Hangs When Playing Music, Watching Video, Gaming Before And After Clean Install?
Dec 16, 2012my PC randomly hangs and makes a lovely noise (through the speakers rather than the computer itself) when listening to music, watching vids online/offline, gaming, basically at any time, when there is no sound it still hangs for a second when moving the mouse but makes no noise through the speakers. I've just done a clean install and have removed all OC to see if it makes any difference, all drivers are up to date with latest versions from manufacturers, i'm about to pull out my sound card and use onboard sound to see if that's the issue, but i believe i've tried that once before. Have experienced BSOD on this rig, but haven't had it for a while.

Windows 7 Hangs On "starting Windows 7" Screen After Software Install?
Sep 27, 2012I upgraded my Intel Rapid Storage software, reset the computer and now it won't get passed the windows starting screen. The windows logo comes up then it freezes, I have tried leaving it for over an hour to see if it sorted itself out, and powered it off completely. Numerous re-boot attempts all the same result.If I choose to boot windows with last known working configuration it will start up, and in the bottom right corner give me the error that Intel Rapid Storage is not running. If I then go into control panel and uninstall it the computer will boot just fine. At first I thought it maybe was a bad install of the software, but any re-install of the software does the same.trange since until I went to install the new version it worked perfectly fine, it has even saved me some data notifying me of S.M.A.R.T. failures in time for me to copy the data off the drive. I am running flexraid in snapshot mode and have it update nightly just in case, but I wouldn't mind getting the new version of the software to work unless the experts here think it is not necessary.

May 2, 2012Yesterday i wanted to change my OS to windows 7 64bits (I had windows 7 32bits before and worked just fine). The installation goes well but when windows install tries to reboot to complete the installation it hangs on "windows start" and reboot again and again. I tried several solutions such as
- Install using a different cd (3 different cds and same problem)
- Install from USB flash (not even working)
- Fix boot system (from command prompt using windows repair cd)
- Re-install windows 32 bits (same problem)
- boot in Safe mode (same problem it reboots again and again)
- Windows system repair (from cd)
PS:I have a Dell inspiron M 560 (Core 2 Quad, 4Go in RAM).
