Windows 7 Stuck On Welcome Screen
Feb 25, 2012
I go on Windows, and I get to the welcome screen, after I enter my password, the spinney loader thingy just goes forever. I have to manually shut down and start back up multiple times before I can successfully logon again. After I finally got on, I saved the even log into a file, this includes all events since i turned it on and it got stuck. This occurance of the stuck welcome screen happens every once in a while please help me! Here is my events log (sorry no minidump or anything like that.

I've had Windows 7 installed for approx. a year without this problem occurring in the past. There was an update last night which I applied on shutdown. This morning, when I boot up my machine, it went to the login screen. After logging in, the screen is stuck on the "Welcome" and the spinning wheel. I restarted and booted into safe mode with success, and attempted to restore to the point before the updates. Same problem occurred, and when I rebooted into safe mode, it said that System Recovery was not able to find the previous restore point. I then tried the restore point before that, and the same problem occurred. Also, my hard disks appear to be functioning fine.

Doing a Normal startup, or booting from the Windows 7 cd it will get so far as the Starting Windows screen, the Microsoft copy-write shows up briefly greyed out some, and just sits there. In Safe Mode, it loads everything seemingly, lastly avgidsha.sys, then sits on Please wait...I have narrowed it down to hot the HDD or memory. I've put another HDD with Windows 7 on it, getting the same results. The MemTest 86+ cd actually loads and runs, came up 100% with no errors. Other suggestions that I have found use bootable CDs that want to start Windows first. The Windows 7 CD, Windows Defender Offline, Windows Recovery disk all get stuck at the same place as the HDD, the Starting Windows screen

I rebooted my PC after installing the latest version of iTunes, and upon reboot I couldn't get past the motherboard splash screen. I tried removing each stick of RAM individually, I tried removing the battery, but finally it was clearing the CMOS which helped me at least get past the mobo splash screen (after pulling out all of the USB devices plugged in otherwise it would also freeze), but now it gets stuck on the Windows 7 loading screen.
I tried entering the Windows 7 repair function, but it freezes on a black screen (I waited about 20 minutes).
I tried booting into safe mode, but it gets stuck while loading this file: AVGIDSEH.sys
Now since I can't even boot into windows to try to do any kind of diagnosis, I figured I would create a USB drive portable version of Windows 7.
My question is, if I manage to boot into my portable Windows, what kind of tests should I run?
Finally one last question, typically when Windows 7 gets stuck at loading is it hardware related or would a complete re-install fix the issue? At this point I just need to get it back and running I don't care about losing my settings and programs.

I have a Levona G570 laptop. Windows is getting stuck on the welcome screen and also when I try booting in safe mode all I get is the safe mode in all 4 corners with a black screen, i can see the cursor also.
I tried doing a startup repair and the first couple times I tried would just keep going for over 5-6 hours, finally it did it again and gave me this error message along with it saying something along the lines of "Windows cannot automattically fix this"

Yesterday I woke up to my computer sitting at the starting windows loading screen. I have no idea why it turned off but now every time i try to start it, It sits at the loading screen. I already tried system restore and start up repair. Did it a bunch of different times and the restore worked yet still had the same problem repair did not work. I can get into safe mode, so i tried to do the msconfig way. I did selective start up and disabled all the non Microsoft services. Restarted and It still sat on loading screen. I then opened the desktop up and tried cleaning it making sure all hardware was properly seated. Still no success.

My laptop is stuck in the system repair screen and just stays there. Here's the background. His laptop was dog slow when he came home from college. The only way to boot it was in safe mode. I suspected a virus and ran multiple AV checks recommended on the Windows 7 support forum. No virus was found. Checkdisk and sfc/ scannow from cmd also failed to complete. Based on additional Forum info, I then tried to repair using the restore disks I made when I bought the Dell laptop. It worked fine until starting the repair and then hung at 1%. Eventually I turned off the power. Next I tried doing a custom Win 7 installation from a new disk (a fresh copy of Windows 7). It still tries to repair from the fresh Windows DVD and hangs on the system repair screen. I have powered off and tried to get back to safe mode unsuccessfully. How do I get out of this loop? BTW, it has not blue-screened at all.

I tried to log on to my user yesterday, and when I type in my password, it goes into the normal loading screen that says "Welcome" and the loading circle next to it is spinning like it should. Except it stay like that. For hours. I've shut down my computer and tried to log in again multiple times. It keeps doing it. I have no hardware plugged in besides monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

When Win 7 pro (32 bits) boots up, as we all notice, there is a second or so when there is a black screen, w/ just your mouse cursor, and then you are supposed to see the blue Welcome screen.
In the past 2 months, my computer is stuck at that black screen about 7 times, as recent as tonight. I've done a clean install w/ the latest Nvidia driver 2 weeks ago. No change. It looks like win 7 Pro is stuck there and waiting for something as my hard drive light blink on and off.
So, I would do nothing, or sometimes I would disconnect the HDMI port connects to my 3rd PC Panel (see below), and I would wait for 5 min. or so. Then my login logo shows up, I click it, and I got to windows.
Now, w/ the normal boot up, I don't have that login logo, win 7 pro will simply boot up directly to win 7 main screen after I turn on the computer.
Some1 said this could be IRQ sensing problem of the video card. But so far, I have no proof on that 1 way or the other: All these started about 2 months ago, at or near the same time when the Sharp LED TV technician came to my house and upgraded all the firmware, including the firmware that consumers can't download, to my Sharp LED LCD TV, as the power button wasn't working.
Then in the past 2 mth., every time I turned on my LCD TV, which is connected to my computer as the 3rd screen via a DVI to HDMI cable, Win 7 senses this 3rd panel, and the screen went black and back on again. This isn't the way it used to be: as it WAS NOT SWITCH TO THE HDMI PC PORT.
My Sharp LCD has 4 HDMI output. Tonight for e.g., I was on Input 2, which is satellite, but as soon as I turn on the Sharp LCD, win 7 senses this 3rd screen, and the screen do that black screen then back on again w/ the music charm note.
This was not the way it used to be, in the past yr., w/ this same set up, win 7 only went to the black screen and back on when I switch to Input 1, which is PC at 1920x1080. And I don't know if the above is related to the boot up lock up or not.

I saw on another thread that I should do a system restore from safe mode on my Acer laptop because when I logged into my computer I couldnt open anything. The system restore was completed (I only restored it to a few days earlier) but when my computer restarted it never allowed me to log on and is stuck on the welcome screen with the little circle thing just turning... I am wondering how long it should take after a system restore for my computer to get to the log in screen. It has been about 8 hours now on the welcome screen. I am started to get a little worried and wondering if I should manually restart my computer by holding down the power button, or will that ruin the system restore or somehow damage my computer?

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 15 (l521x) that came with Windows 8. The system boots from the hard drive through UEFI by default, so I think the hard drive is already GPT. I am attempting to install Windows 7 from a UEFI bootable USB. The system goes through the 'copying files' phase and then goes to the Starting Windows screen. As the colored dots of the Windows logo are circling, the system freezes. Can someone help me fix this problem? The following are the steps I took in order to install Windows 7:
- Formatted a brand new 4GB USB drive to FAT32
- Downloaded Windows 7 ISO (I have a key)
- Extracted ISO files to USB
- Made adjustments so that USB is UEFI bootable (efi/boot/bootx64.efi)
- In BIOS, set SATA Operation to AHCI and disabled Secure Boot
- Select USB drive from UEFI boot menu

a week ago my windows 7 ultimate crashed in the starting screen showing the dam blue screen and warning me that windows couldn't start. I went to the self repair tool.It tool like 4 hours to fix the issue. Then it said, that windows will start normally after that. What a lie. After the starting screen I got the black screen, just with the mouse. I tried everything I know, scanning the disk surface with other computer, I used the windows 7 installation CD. And that told me it couldn't find any issue starting windows. What can I try now? This happens evenwhen I boot normally or in any safe mode.

I built a new gaming PC about a month and a half ago and its been running fine up until now. I turned it on a couple of days ago and Win 7 was freezing up. The mouse cursor was a blue wheel and I couldn't click or do anything. I couldn't even access the command line and ctrl+alt+del didn't work either. At this point it did boot up in safe mode. I powered it down and now it won't boot past BIOS. I reseated everything and checked all the connections and everything seems good.

Ok so last night I ran chkdsk on my SSD which contains my OS (windows 7 ultimate 64 bit). It ran through fine and restarted as normal but after it took me back to the login screen my computer completely froze after typing my pw.I have tried EVERYTHING. I am able to boot in safe mode and have tried disabling all nonessential start up processes, i have ran sfc /scannow, i have tried startup repair multiple times, and i have tried reconfiguring the mbr (with 3 commands i found elsewhere though i cant recall the exact commands).Unfortunately, im an idiot and never made a system image or restore points and im really hoping im not screwed. There must be something that can be done. Im absolutely amazed that chkdsk caused this even though it seemed to run through flawlessly

When I start my computer everything seems to be working fine but after login it says Please Wait then freezes at Welcome screen and the cursor can be moved around the screen and shows the loading icon and the screen also flashes black every few seconds. I've restarted and attempted to access Safe Mode however it also freezes at Welcome screen. I went into the repair system screen and tried a system restore but it says there are no restore points available and I know I haven't deleted my restore points. I've tried disconnecting any of the hardware I've had installed but that hasn't helped either. There also isn't any faulty hardware. When it was last working it said there was a Windows update so I installed the update but when I tried to turn on the computer the next time thats when the problem started and I don't remember what the update was for. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit about 2 months ago and up until now I've had no problems with it. What can I do?
Here are the system specs:
Dell Inspiron 530s
Intel Celeron 2.00 Ghz
3.00 GB DDR2 RAM (I added 2.00 gigs myself came with 1.00 gig from factory)
Windows 7 32-bit upgrade from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
250 Gb Hard Drive

I just finished building my first computer in 8-9 years or so. I was quite excited that my computer booted first time I turned it on but my excitement was soon overwhelmed with defeat. Let me start by linking my computers specs. [URL] I downloaded windows 7 from my schools msdn website I have the key and everything. I then burned it to a dvd. After booting from my dvd drive the loading bar continues and finishes. The 4 colorful balls float around then come together and my computer gets stuck.
Now It's very important to note that I was able to get past this screen after restarting my computer 4 times and I was successfully able to load continue on to installing windows only to get stuck in the same screen while booting from my ssd. Then I thought this issue could've been caused by using my SSD. So I unplugged it and repeated the same process using my seagate HD same thing happened. When I try starting it in safe mode the computer continues on to loading windows but I get prompted to restart it in normal mode so that the installation can continue.

My pc won't logon anymone, the pc lost power while it was in standby and I can't seem to boot it anymore.I'm stuck at just after you put in your password, the spinning circle & welcome screen. I can still move the mouse ( 2nd screen shows mouse movement) and press any of the lock keys so the pc is not frozen, it's as if it is waiting for something. The res is fine on both my screens and I did get audio when it went to the logon screen. The HDD led is not burning. It's simply doing, erm, nothing. It DOES boot into safe mode normally.chkdsk found no problems.Windows startup repair says no problems and successful boot. One more thing, in the logon screen where you enter your password, the other pop up menus like the accessibility menu or the menu to reboot/shutdown/standby/hibernate/etc also DO NOT work if I try that instead of logging in, I click on them and it's like the logon screen freezes but I can still move the mouse. this does not happen in safe mode.No changes have been made since 16 jun, no windows updates, perhaps an app update or 2 ( avast upgraded to v7 iirc, required reboot and this is the first time I cold booted in weeks/I haven't rebooted it since after the last batch of updates around the 16th). I usually do not turn my pc off ever, this is the first cold boot in 2 weeks so It's hard for me to say what changed, but I know it was not a windows update or anything as I only do those manually once per 1 or 2 months.

So I had finally got my first build ever running a few hours ago. Was so excited. I used the program wintoflash to copy my windows installation cd to my flash drive. Popped the flash drive in my new rig and booted it up. It went to installation and took a bit of time to completely install. As it restarted after install the windows startup came up and was continuously going for quite some time and never stopped. So where I am at is that I cant get past the start up screen.
I have tried so much. I pulled out the second stick of ram, the gpu.. ran memory check with no errors, tried re installing windows in many ways (different partitions).I tried running in safe mode but it just gets stuck at disk. The only thing I knoticed is that windows 7 installs faster the second time around, even after deleting all the memory on the hard drive (advanced option during install). I have browsed the web and nothing has helped. Just got a new mobo after replacing the last defected one today, so that cannot be the problem. Completely and utterly frustrated to be presented with another speedbump after all this hard work to get it running.
My rig:
Intel i-5 3rd gen.
Kingston hyperx 2x8gb
AsRock b75m-dgs motherboard.
nvidia gt 440
Western Digital Caviar 250gb 7200.
