Windows 7 64 Bit Dell Laptop Intermittently "locking Up" After Adding Memory
Apr 8, 2012
why my 64 bit laptop keeps "locking up". It becomes totally unresponsive, on the majority of occasions it is necessary to press the power button for 6 seconds to switch it off. The problems only started occuring after I upgraded the memory from 4Gb (2 x 2) to 8Gb (2 x 4) supplied by crucial. I have ran the windows memory diagnostic program and memtest86, both of which detected no problems. If I re-install the original memory there is no issues. The symptoms are telling me that the memory is failing however the diagnostic testing indicates otherwise.

I have a netgear wireless router upstairs. My dell laptop, my iMac (which is downstairs) and my iPad/iPhones all connect anywhere in the house. My Toshiba laptop and my work dell will not connect or it connects very intermittently. I can stay connected for days on other wifi networks, just not at home. Any ideas?

have a Dell Inspiron N5110 15R laptop. It is i3, having 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of hard-disk. But when it comes to the Graphics, it has onboard graphics, i.e. Intel HD Graphics 3000. Now I have 2GB of shared video memory but I only have 64MB of Dedicated Video Memory which is, I think, not enough to play games like Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty(s)Now, coming to the question, is there any way I could increase Dedicated Video Memory? I will be happy to donate 1 GB (or 512 MB) more to Dedicated Video Memory.[CODE]

I have a new M7 64 bit machine with 8GB of memory installed, specifically Samsung 4GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 memory (times 2) and I was wanting to add identical memory sold by Micro Center for half the price. Should I pay twice the price for Samsung memory?

We are using Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010 clients. There is one user that is having issues with categories. If she assigns categories to emails, and locks/unlocks her machine, the categories are no longer assigned to her emails.
We have tried:
-new machine- she needed a laptop anyway.
-deleted AD account and re created
-deleted and re created mailbox
I've tried installing Office 2010 SP1, updating BIOS and all drivers..

My Dell Precision 670 will not boot Windows 7 after upgrading the memory to 8GB.Configuration follows:*BIOS A06*2 x 4GB SIMMS in slots 1 and 2. These are correct WS670/4GB PC3200 EEC registered modules as recommended.*memory fan is installed*3 SCSI drives with Adaptec 7901 RAID controller.I've got a dual boot setup, and the system boots and runs fine from the alternate OS (Win XP x64) just fine. The BIOS lists the memory as installed and shows no errors or problems. A memory test indicates that the memory is okay. When I try to do a boot repair from Win7, the Win7 OS is not listed and installing the correct RAID and SCSI drivers from the repair window does not make it visible. The partition is not, in fact, visible from the repair tool. When I put the old memory back in (4 x 512mb SIMMS in slots 1,2,3,4) the system boots and runs fine with Windows 7. What's up with this?

I have a Toshiba sattelite A215 that I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 32 bit Windows 7 Pro. I did a clean install from a legit copy of 7. Prior to installing, I ran the upgrade advisor and there was one device (listed as unknown) that was listed as not compatible.A few days after install, after the laptop sits idle for a few hours, when I open it up and start navigating, it will freeze up. I power off using the power button, power back up, and it works fine. Next time I try to use it after it sits idle for a while, again it freezes. This process is repeated nearly every time I start using it after it sits idle for a few hours

I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 bit on my pc for 6 months or so when recently it just started freezing up either whilst loading or whilst im on the desktop screen. I have checked memory chips for error and its returned back no errors found. I have to sometimes reboot the pc when its frozen and then it doesn't load up. It freezes just after windows logo appears and just halts for ages. Sometimes it doesnt even get that far. I have a memory and cpu gauge on my desktop which constantly has memory on about 56% usage and cpu on 0.2%.
I have even resinstalled a backup image i have created of the operating system but now its even worse. I have Virgin media security software installed.

I have a Blu-Ray/DVD drive on my PC (its a brans new PC).When I first start windows up the drive genreally seems to be recognised by windows (i.e. I can see it in windows explorer), however at some point windows stops recognising the DVD drive forcing me to restart the PC if I want to get my DVD out.I realize there is a fix where you change the registry settings, but given that the DVD srive works when I restart the PC I'm not sure that fix if applicable here?

When I'm disconnected, I lose all connectivity both to the internet and on the local lan, so pinging (for example) Google will time out, but also pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router's lan ip address) will also time out
Fix : Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".
If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer.
It's the network driver that costs me hours of hunting & searching. MOTHERBOARD : ASUS IPIBL-LB Integrated LAN : Realtek 8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s (Gigabit Ethernet)

I am facing an issue where the wireless connectivity drops intermittently for my Win 7 Home Basic Notebook.Within less then a minute the connection is resumed. Earlier I thought that it was an issue with my service provider. But then I did not face this issue with my Win XP notebook. I mean, both the notebooks are connected and then the wireless connection of Win 7 drops for a minute and then reconnects. During the period when the connection drops, I can still see my SSID, and also checked that the Win XP was connected and I could access the internet. What could be the root cause and the possible solutions for this issue? It is really frustrating when the connection drops when I am downloading big files and I have to start all over.

I have a new HP Notebook with Windows 7. Downloaded my old Office 2003. However, Outlook only works intermittently without any rhyme or reason. I've kept a log since August 5 for being on and being off. It is mostly off. The # of the error message that comes up is (0x800CCC0F0), it says: "The connection of the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact our server administrator or Internet service provider." My internet provider is AT&T u-verse, they tell me that they do not deal with Outlook problems, I should use webmail. Of course I use it to get my emails but don't anybody tell me what to use, I have used Outlook for the past 15+ years and I intend to continue using it. I use the very unimaginative webmail out of necessity. AT&T also tells me that that I can subscribe with a one year contact $ 15 a month to their special service to address my type of problem.

I recently purchased a couple of new Dell Vostro 3700 laptops with Win7 on them in my office. One of them started getting a message about a week ago stating that the machine is low on memory and instructing the user to close all programs and shut down. This does not make any sense to me as it is a brand new machine with 4GB of memory available. Normally I would think the user had too many programs running, but he is getting it even when there are only a couple of programs running.
In the mean time, we purchased another Dell Vostro 3700. I went through the process of getting it set up. After I installed the final program, it gave me the same error message. I removed the program and installed a more up-to-date version. It seems to be working fine. So I figured the other was the same issue. I followed the same steps. It just got the error message agian. There goes my theory.
what could be eating up the memory on a brand new machine?

We have 2 x Server 2008 R2 domain controllers and 120+ Windows 7 x64 clients. We have a print server which runs Server 2008 R2.We have several other servers which also run Server 2008 R2. An issue occurs intermittently and apparently at random, whereby a client will be unable to resolve the host/computer name of the print server. When the issue occurs, we have confirmed the following: - The client has a valid IP address. The client DNS server addresses are correct. - The client can ping the IP address of the print server. - The client can resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the servers FQDN. - The client cannot resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the host/computer name of the print server. The issue can occur regardless of which domain controller the client used to log on. - When the output of ipconfig /display is printed to a text file, many of the other servers in our domain are present in the DNS cache but the print server is not. After the ipconfig /flushdns command is executed, the client can resolve the host/computer name of the print server immediately.

Had 1x 2GB Kingston 667MHz stick, and decided to buy another one. I should point out that both are fully working and were bought brand new from Amazon. I was forced to reinstall windows (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit) for other reasons, and the installer would get to "Starting Windows" then would restart. Did this as many times as I booted it up. After messing around I took out one stick (took out the old one and just had the new one in) and the installer worked perfectly. Got into windows and shut it down to reinstall the other ram stick. When I booted it up, it did the same reboot loop. Seems like it just doesn't want to take 4GB. BIOS says: Installed Memory: 4.0 GB, Memory Channel Mode: Dual Interleaved. Why won't my XPS 600 boot with 4GB RAM!? It IS a 64-bit OS (had to double check just to make sure)

I've been having issues with Windows 7 locking up and failing to boot. At first, I could get into windows and it would freeze with an error message saying something about processes causing it to stop responding. The mouse wheel would just keep spinning and I couldn't type using the keyboard or even ctrl-alt-del out. I ended up having to hard shut down. When it rebooted, it wouldn't even load Windows and it would just stay stuck on the BIOS screen...I couldn't even F2 into the set-up at this point.I shut everything down and disconnected the SATA connections (the HDD and the CD/DVD). This time I was able to F2 into setup and checked the settings. I don't overclock and everything was set to default. I hooked the HDD and CD/DVD back up and restarted. I got into Windows Safe Mode. It ran through a driver install and had me restart. When I restarted...Windows came back up and immediately did the freeze thing again. Once again, I had to hard shutdown and it wouldn't go past the BIOS screen or let me into the F2 set-up.
I started up and shut down a few more times trying different sata ports with the HDD and CD/DVD. One time I got it back into safe-mode but most of the time it just stops at the BIOS start screen. I switched the RAM and reseated the video card thinking it might be a hardware issue.

this problem started yesterday, randomly last night my Computer just locked up, out of nowhere, couldn't click anything, mouse icon was gone, keyboard unresponsive when I pushed caps lock the LED didn't change and ctrl+alt+del did nothing either, had to hold down my power button and restart that way, when I did restart however everything was fine again.
Then today, I'm on my computer for 4-5 hours, I get this random lock up again, so I restart everythings fine...then an hour later, I get it again.
I haven't installed any new software recently, I did install the new windows update AFTER the lockups today though. I built my computer myself 1 year ago the specs are as such
CPU: i7-930
RAM: 6GB DDR3 1600MHZ Tri-Chan Corsair XMS3
PSU: 650W Corsair HX
Mobo: P6X58D-E
GFX: Radeon HD 5770 XFX 1GB
I'm not hearing any weird sounds when the system locks up (no beeping or anything to indicate any hardware issues) and it's 100% not a heating problem as on stress test my CPU/GFX doesn't go over 50/52 @ 100% for around 2 hours.

I came across some article some time back talking about how windows 7 will manifest itself inside the motherboard particularly the newer ones with the UEFI bios such that you will be unable to upgrade the motherboard at a later date and that it will also block installations of other OS like linux for example. Not that i have had to replace a motherboard before but starting with my new build im getting soon I'd like to keep my options open. What truth is there to these claims and if they are true are there at least ways to get around it; and then how do these fail "features" apply when win7 is running as a virtual machine rather than the host OS?

Last night something horrific began happening that's continued today: Every few minutes the entire system locks up no matter what I happen to be doing at that moment: I get the hideous "Not Responding" message when I'm in Firefox, Word, and even in Windows Explorer..."OS (Not Responding). Between last night and right now, I've had to manually shut down the machine with the power button countless times; I have to shut it down and turn it on to be able to use my computer! Last week, I got a new PC with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit (from 32 bit on the old one). I somehow created THREE User Account Control accounts in an effort to set up a Standard account like I had on the previous system (Ellen-PC), so I wouldn't have to have permission to do anything. But I still need permission on the UAC I logon to now which is Ellen Administrator. I've tried to change it to Standard account with no success.

I am running Windows 7 on my computer and have somehow used windows security to lock my seagate external drive. The computer can tell that the drive is there but I cannot access anything on the drive and also cannot write to it. I have tried talking to tech support from Seagate and they said that since I have used a third party program that I need to contact them. It is difficult to get a response from them. I am a novice when it comes to things like this.

Yesterday windows wouldn't get past the black log on screen. I did a restore from a couple of weeks ago and it started fine. Today, same thing. So I tried the restore again, using a slightly older restore point. It got me in and I immediately opened malwarbytes and updated the file but the system locked up before it finished. I tried opening in safe mode but it locked up again. I tried another restore but was prompted to run chkdsk /r because of freecell problem. Didn't work. I tried again and received unspecified error (0x8000fff).

I recently uninstall-ed windows 32 bit (OEM) and re-installed windows 64 bit (OEM). Everything is working well, but the system will just blue screen or lock up without blue screen. The only hardware difference, is that I had 8 gigs of gskill ram plugged in previously, so now windows is of course recognizing the 2nd set of 4 gigs.So far it has occurred 3 times when playing battlefield bad company 2 (2 blue screens 1 pure lock up).Since those lock ups, I have made 1 hardware change, from a gtx 260, to an asus gtx 560ti and have not had any problems with bad company 2, but I haven't played for very long. However it has now locked up twice when I tried to install drivers for my phone, when I plug my phone into my computer via USB it asks to install drivers, but when I click ok, it partially locks up, then goes into a full lock up, but no BSOD.32 bit windows never locked up in the year I used it, no hardware changes until the 64 bit recognized additional ram, and I swapped out the graphics card.

For a little while now, completely randomly it would seem, the USB ports on the back of my PC will seemingly cut in and out indefinitely until I do a restart.
If the devices that were plugged into the back USB ports are switched to the USB ports on the front of the case, there isn't a problem at all.
I'm almost certain that the problem is not with my mouse and keyboard as like I said, plugged into the front they work fine.
